For Insomnia "I tried this to help my insomnia, and the first time it worked. The second time, I also split the pill in half, and it gave me nightmares, night sweats, scary room spins (eyes would roll around super fast). The next day, I felt horrible and exhausted and still 'high.' I'd be careful with this. Maybe got 2 hours of sleep total and woke up 9-10 times during the night."

For Insomnia "I have been taking this medication for two weeks. 25 mg nightly. It has helped sleep and improved my anxiety and depression. I am a little tired when first waking, but that passes quickly. I have tried every SSRI made in the past 20 years with terrible side effects. I can't say how happy I am to finally find a medication that works for me."

For Insomnia "This was a horrific drug. I took one 50 mg tablet and was knocked into a sleep-like state where my body was sleeping but my mind was fully aware. The next morning, I was hungover and felt sleep-deprived. One month later, I tried it again. My eyelids were heavy, but I was completely awake for hours. When I got out of bed at 3:00 a.m., I couldn't walk a straight line. While the warnings may refer to this as dizziness, it was more a drugged state, as though I had taken a paralytic. I tore a calf muscle trying to stand upright. Finally got to sleep sometime after 5:00 a.m."

For Sedation "I was really hoping this was going to work for me. Not sure if the groggy, stoned feeling is better or worse than the exhaustion from insomnia. Took it at 8 pm and could not fall asleep until after midnight. Had a horrible time getting out of bed at 5 am and still can't seem to wake up."

For Headache "Granted, it does make you sleep. But when I get up in the morning, I always have a headache. Most of the day, I felt bad and tired. I have no energy. I do not like to take it unless I need to. I find out clonazepam 0.5, two of them, and two of hydroxyzine 25 mg make me sleep just as well as trazodone 50 mg. That gives me a headache every time. The other two pills I take."

For Insomnia "I have been on 50 mg of Trazodone for about two weeks - I would take it about 9:00 pm, but it was two or so hours before I fell asleep. Tried taking it earlier, still was midnight. Plus, I find myself tired and sleepy during the day to where I need a short nap. So tonight I took it at 8:00, and it's 2:00 am, haven't felt sleepy yet. I decided I would take another 50 mg to see if it works. Will try 100 mg next time, if that doesn't work, calling my doctor."

For Insomnia "I'm a 24-year-old female and I began taking trazodone 6-7 months ago. I've taken 1 100 mg pill every. Single. Night... Because my insomnia is so chronic that I will go 10-12 days with hardly any sleep and can't function at work or school, which is really messing my life up. The only reason I started taking the trazodone was out of desperation, and at first things were tolerable. Every night I take it, it knocks me out within 20 mins exactly, and even if I take it 10 hours before waking, I still feel hungover, dizzy, tired, and groggy all day. No amount of coffee or espresso will fix this. 3 nights ago, I took it as usual and was gasping for air and had to rush to the ER from chest pain and shallow breathing. Nasty drug, don't form a habit on it."

For Anxiety "I have just started and taken 5 tabs over 5 nights of 50 mg per day. I wake up tired and have a dry mouth. My jaw has been very clenchy and tight over the past 2 days. I am hoping things will settle and I will feel less anxious."

For Insomnia "I have insomnia from Zyprexa withdrawal. My nurse practitioner prescribed trazodone because I didn't want to go back on Zyprexa solely due to the insomnia. The first night was fine. I slept relatively well, only waking up once to go to the bathroom. The second night, however, I had the most vivid nightmares that I've ever had in my life. I kept trying to wake up because I realized that I was dreaming, but no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't wake up and end the nightmares until 5 am. It was the most awful night of my life. I also felt extremely tired the next day both times after I took it. I am switching to prazosin now and will hopefully get better sleep."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I take it for sleep quality. It's not because it makes me tired, but trazodone (always taken in conjunction with paroxetine) makes me feel rested when I wake up. Before I started taking trazodone, I used to feel tired, lethargic, and a bit queasy no matter how long I slept."

Trazodone for Insomnia "I was taking regular Trazodone on and off for a couple of years, it stopped working, so my doctor switched me to Desyrel. It's a good pill for the fact that it does make you tired, but I'd make sure you're going to get 8 or more hours of sleep before you take it. I was prescribed 100 mg pills, and I only took half of a pill whenever I took it, and I had the hardest time waking up the next day. Also, with the reg Trazodone and with Desyrel, it took a long time for it to kick in for me (2 hours), but that might be because I have a high tolerance to pills. If you're new to this medicine, take it on the weekend or whenever you can sleep in, so you can see how it works."

For Insomnia "I have been diagnosed with idiopathic hyperinsomnia, my mind does NOT shut off at night. I have been prescribed 100 mg of trazodone to sleep. Let me tell you! I fall asleep within a couple of minutes and sleep all night, waking up refreshed. Lately, though, I can sleep like a rock and still feel very tired throughout the day. I am wondering if maybe it's from prolonged use. I can't even imagine sleeping without it!"

For Insomnia "Been on Trazodone for 2 months for insomnia and traumatic nightmares associated with PTSD and depression. Helps me somewhat in falling asleep, but I still can't stay asleep. Wake up repeatedly during the night with awful nightmares. When I wake up the next morning (11 hours after taking 50 mg), I am unsteady on my feet, sometimes fall. Exhausted all day. Feeling more depressed and despairing (also taking fluoxetine 40 mg)."

For Insomnia "Trazodone is a complicated drug. It works for some, but for others, there are a myriad of side effects. For me, and my insomnia, it worked for a week or two. Then, it became ineffective, even though I doubled the dose from 50 to 100 mg. If you suffer from depression, check your nortriptyline level if you are on Pamelor or a generic version. Pamelor is still an effective tricyclic antidepressant that is used to also treat sleeplessness or insomnia. Yes, it also has some side effects, but its major one is that it makes you tired, which is why it is usually prescribed at bedtime. My spouse has tried trazodone and found it to be very effective, even for a longer period of time. One medication does not work for all people."

For Insomnia "I'm in menopause and have insomnia. Dr. prescribed 50 mg trazodone 'as needed' for sleep. I took 1/2 pill last night for the first time. Within 15 minutes I couldn't hold my head up. Went to bed and slept okay for about 5 hours. Was awakened by my daughter needing me in the middle of the night. I had blurred vision and felt drunk when I got up. Went back to sleep a couple of hours. This morning I feel like I'm hungover. Headache, tired, and hard to focus. This drug may be good for some people, but not for me. :("

For Insomnia "I am very sensitive to drugs. So I was put on 25 mg of trazodone. It worked for about a week, then I got very sensitive to it, and it knocked me out. My eyes and nose hurt, and I was very tired. So I had to go off it. I ended up in a crisis center until things settled down. This drug did not do well for me."

For Major Depressive Disorder "A GP prescribed me this med to try to shift what he called 'major depressive disorder,' despite the fact I was diagnosed with bipolar. I don't know why he prescribed this med, as a lot of places/people have said it's rarely used for depression anymore. This med made me tired immediately after I took it, but it did nothing for my depression, and unfortunately, when my GP raised it to 200 mg, it caused me to go manic. He lowered the dose back to 100 mg; even though it did nothing to help my mood, I was left taking this med for almost a year. When I was finally told I could stop taking it, I had to wean off it very slowly, as without it, I was no longer able to sleep. I ended up sleeping badly for several months, which caused a manic episode."

For Insomnia "Trazodone helped me fall asleep a little bit better than I would’ve without it. I was taking it with Celexa, it did help, but it didn’t help as much as the Remeron that I'm on now. The Remeron helps with depression, but I do still feel depressed, just not as bad. It helps very well with anxiety, and falling and staying asleep, but it does leave you tired throughout the day."

For Insomnia "Helped me sleep 6-8 hours a night when previously I was getting 1-2 hours a night. Definitely helped me cope in a difficult time. But made me feel more lethargic, and I always felt exhausted regardless of the amount of sleep. Gained some weight even with a healthy diet and exercise."

For Insomnia "It was excellent for getting me to have REM sleep, but after the first few weeks, I started taking half the dosage because the full was leaving me with a total sense of exhaustion for the entire day. I highly recommend it for those who have trouble staying asleep."

For Anxiety "I thought this might be good for sleep. Tried it once, 50 mg, and three hours later was wide awake for the whole night. Then tired and anxious for the rest of the day, threw the rest in the bin. It obviously didn’t work for me, and from what I’ve read in the forums, it doesn’t work for many others. It’s a shame as I only wanted it for sleep. I can see why it is not used as a first line for depression and anxiety, as it seems to be worse than a Benzo."
