"Armour reduced water retention and joint/tendon fatigue. However, it made me ravenous and raised my free T3 to uncomfortable levels. I also couldn't exercise. Back to Synthroid in the morning and 15 mg Armour in the afternoon... Better."

"I had a total thyroidectomy 13 years ago. I was put on Synthroid, or generic versions. I only noticed some paranoia/anxiousness with those over the years. About a year ago, I started feeling like I was taking the meds for nothing, as I was tired, foggy, etc. I went to see a new doctor who prescribed Armour Thyroid and suggested '2 grains,' which is two pills. I took one to start, and it made me totally anxious. I started taking half and made myself stick with it for a week. I had been having headaches to begin with. I decided to up to one pill and have done that for about 5 days. I am totally foggy, my body aches, I’m extremely anxious. I’m not taking this anymore. I feel disconnected, like I’m not even myself. I hope to go back to my previous doctor and start back on Synthroid. I’m happy Armour helps so many people, but unfortunately, I am not one of them. ;("

"My blood test said I was on the low side of normal, yet I was having very bad pain in my legs and feet and having chills and loss of hair. I was put on this drug and the pain is gone in my legs and feet. I no longer have chills and my hair is growing back."

"Has anyone encountered problems with their eyes after being on Armour Thyroid? It is curious to me that I feel better than I have in a long time, however, things keep happening to my eyes. First, a detached retina, cataracts, and now macular problems. Never had eye problems before, and my vision stayed the same as when I was 12 years old until last year when I started Armour. Any connection?"

"Echoing the many recent negative reviews on Armour. Since mid-2021, the medicine hasn't been the same. I have had depression, anxiety, panic, and after feeling better on an older compounded med, decided to try again since I felt my own system had settled down. Big mistake. By the end of the week trial, I was non-functional. In addition, I'd had an elevation of anti-thyroglobulin antibodies which I've never had before in my 26-year history as a thyroid patient. I have reported my issues to the FDA and talked to them at length, but told them many patients need NDT, but we need it to be safe, reliable, and effective. Encourage everyone having problems or an interest to do the same."

"I feel lifeless - that is the only way to describe how I feel. I've been taking this medication, a low dose of 30 mg, for 6-7 weeks. I feel way worse than I did before I started it. I thought something was seriously wrong until I thankfully found this forum. I have never been so exhausted and fatigued in my life. Nausea, indigestion, constipation, puffy eyelids, my mood is off... the list goes on. This drug should not be on the market. Don't take it!!!"

"I was on the original WP Thyroid in 2014 and loved it! It was a life changer for me with energy, etc. I started on the “new” WP, and it landed me in the hospital. I’m STILL dealing with the effects. I had edema from head to toe and put on 12 pounds in one week. My gut microbiome was totally wiped out, and I literally stopped digesting food properly. That, along with severe bloating/fluid retention, made me look 9 months pregnant. I’m very healthy and normally thin. This drug has some really dangerous new components. Don’t use!!"

"I took NatureThroid for 12 years without problems and good results. It was recalled. I found I could not take Synthroid, which tore up my digestive tract. I tried Tirosint and no go. Endocrinologist switched me to NP Thyroid. I went to the ER with a head injury, and that had no ill effects. I was not allowed to leave and was detained for 10 hours because I had atrial fibrillation. I came home with a beta blocker and a blood thinner, which I hope are temporary. This is a dangerous and horrible drug. Irregular heartbeat is a listed side effect. I reported it to the FDA, mentioning that the recall of NatureThroid caused this situation."

"All who were taking NP Thyroid should know it has been recalled. I just got a new batch, and it works fantastic. Best I have felt in a year. Glad I dumped the Nature Throid, as I was taking almost 3 1/2 grains a day just to get a little bump every day. Now on 60 mg of NP twice a day, and it's like a whole new world. Get rid of your old NP meds and replace them with the newer script. The recalled NP had 115% more T3 than was needed, that's why it was recalled by Accela."

"I have never had a thyroid. After trying several different medicines such as Armour & Synthroid, I was happy to get Westhroid. However, at week 4, my hair is still rough, including my facial hair (I am female, 55), energy level is low, and lots of joint/muscle pain still! The adjustment phase takes SO MUCH TIME & patience, but I am hopeful. Anyone without a thyroid needs all 4 thyroid hormones; T1-T4 calcitonin. Synthetics only have T4, period. I will come back in 2 weeks with an update."

"I had started taking Armour over 6 months ago, and it did better for me than Synthroid or Nature-Throid. Eyebrows and head hair started to grow in, energy improved, brain fog was lifting, and all the rest of the good things we go through to get back to ourselves. About 8 weeks ago, the symptoms all started coming back, including some new ones, like the rash on my hands that someone else mentioned happened with them. I thought I was doing something wrong. I checked my diet, sleep, etc., all good. I did an internet search and turned up so many websites where people shared their stories of problems with Armour, and it all clicked. I switched to WP a week ago and already feel better."

"This did NOT work well for me at all. I turned into a different person. It scared me and my husband, and my GP felt so bad. We were trying to save money because we do not have insurance. Once I stopped NP and went back to Armour, I got my life back. Be careful, everyone reacts differently, and this was not good for me."

"Great news! I just talked with Forest Labs (manufacturer of Armour Thyroid). They updated their manufacturing equipment and changed formulation by increasing dextrose and decreasing cellulose. The dessicated thyroid stayed the same, even though they have trouble getting it. However, the pills now are very difficult to cut in half (they crumble). I do great on Armour and had a severe allergic reaction to synthetic hormones. I don't like the new formulation as much because I cut my pills in half, but it's better than synthetic. Hope this information helps."

"Problematic batches of Armour! I have started in 2009 to present Dosage- 60 mg. Allergen, if you’re reading this, please look into your Armour Thyroid medication, as some component of this new formula is causing problems for a lot of us! Something’s changed for sure, because the new pills look and taste different. I have filled at 1/2/2021 to prove it, hasn’t made me feel as terrible as these new ones I have. I feel nausea, stomach issues, bloating, diarrhea, weird head pressure, vision problems, daytime fatigue, nighttime insomnia, mood swings. Finally figured out it was Armour that was making me so sick. My doctor wants me to stop, and once I stopped, I am completely fine, and the sad part is this prescription filled at Costco Pharmacy, and they don’t want to notify or deal with the pharmaceutical company. Allergan, you guys need to investigate this. FDA needs to be involved as well, terrible product! I do not recommend this medicine, it is not good!"

"I tried all the thyroid synthetics when I was first diagnosed with underactive thyroid in 2012. None of them worked for me. My doctor finally decided to put me on Armour. It was okay until they reformulated it, it stopped working. Next was Nature Thyroid. It worked better than the reformulated Armour, but not as well as the old Armour. I asked him for WP, it was the best!!! Then they had a manufacturing problem and I couldn't get it. Next was NP by Acella, and I have been feeling better than the reformulated Armour. It works as well as the Nature Thyroid, but not like the WP! RLC Labs has a problem again, none of their NDT is available again. I'm glad I stuck with the NP, never got any of the recalled stuff. I've never experienced any of the complaints others have. I'm not happy about all the fillers in NP, but I've seen worse formulations. I wish they'd clean it up."

"I was on Armour for almost 20 years with no issues. My June 2021 refill triggered incredible anxiety and irritability, increased heart rate, heat intolerance (and I worked in heat and was acclimated to it). Like others posting reviews, I also noted jaw clenching and tooth grinding. In August 2021, I was hospitalized for an arrhythmia the doctors told me was from being overmedicated. Armour changed, either due to supply chain problems or to save money or both. I can no longer trust it and switched to levothyroxine/cytomel."

"I have been on Armour since October '13. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I have steadily gained weight ever since I started-20 lbs. It has not helped with my cold hands or feet, dry skin, or fatigue. My hair has stopped falling out so badly, but that is about the only good thing I can say about this. Also, I'm not sure if it's related, but I've had a serious worsening of lower back pain since starting this."

"I was prescribed Armour Thyroid for four years. The first year was great! Felt better than ever before (currently 42 years of age), but at about the two-year mark I noticed a difference. My energy plummeted, almost seemed depressed. So I started taking antidepressants. That did not help. So to answer all my problems, my doctor kept increasing my Armour Thyroid dose. I went from 60 mg to 160 mg in a four-year period. I could not sleep, I felt depressed, and had absolutely no energy. I went to a cardiologist and endocrinologist to help see what the problem could be. They both advised me it was the hormones: testosterone, progesterone, estrogen, and Armour Thyroid medication."

"NP Thyroid was great for about a year (I finally got optimal after the whole WP/Nature shortage/reformulation!), but only up until last month or so. Now I (along with many others, see Stop the Thyroid Madness website/blog) am not so sure about it. I’m on 120+90 mg. The pills I got are completely different from previous...grayish and speckled instead of solid smooth yellowish, no speckles, previously hardly any odor, and the new ones are also noticeably thicker in size. And the smell. Like insecticide mixed with cat urine...yuck! Called Acella, and they basically dismissed my concerns stating from a scripted answer that color/odor could change from batch to batch and that nothing has changed. Keep an eye on this one!"

"I am suffering from incredible brain fog, dizziness, and confusion that are so severe that I have nearly fallen off the steps three times. I also experience other symptoms that other women have written about, such as difficulty breathing, constant nose dripping, sneezing, and fluctuating body temperature. Additionally, I sweat profusely while sleeping and have the worst body odor. For me, it took some time to build up in my system. Initially, I felt slightly better, but it quickly became horrendous. I am grateful to have found this website. Like many others on Nature-Throid, I have not been on any medication for a couple of years. I used to think that the medication had a strange taste, but I assumed that it was normal."

"Like many others here, after taking NP Thyroid for the last 5 years with no issues, my script filled in August 2019 smelled like urine and tasted terrible. I kept taking them and suffered a horrible stomach pain event and almost went to the ER. I contacted Acella, and it sounds like they have a new supplier, and this medication is now ruined. I guess I have to switch to Armour now after doing so well on this drug for so long."

"Started taking NP Thyroid about 3 weeks ago. I was taking WP Thyroid due to recall, no longer available. I have chronic Lyme and co-infections. I've been feeling a lot better lately. About 2 weeks ago, I started feeling very anxious, heart palpitations, extreme fatigue, severely depressed, brain fog, muscle pain/aches, and the list is endless. I really thought it was one of my co-infections coming back. Paid $580 to get tested for it, and I was negative. Couldn't figure out what was causing all of this until I Googled NP Thyroid, it smells like cat pee. I will no longer be taking it. I don't know what to change it to, I see my doc on Monday, I hope to get it sorted. Please don't touch this stuff."

"I started taking Nature-Throid one year ago for my hypothyroidism. Since then, my afternoon dip in energy has improved; however, I have experienced another troublesome side effect. I've lost a lot of hair, and I didn't have much to begin with. Also, my eyebrows are disappearing."

"I was first treated with Levothyroxine for my hypothyroidism. After 6 weeks of being on it, it had no effect whatsoever! I asked my doctor for Armour Thyroid and boy, what a difference! It's great! Too bad also that labs use an outdated reference range of what is 'normal' on TSH, T4, and T3 blood test results. Do your own research because what the lab says is normal is not!"

"I started taking this back in July 2022 because my insurance didn't cover Armour. This was a horrible mistake. At first, I didn't notice a huge difference, but within a couple of months, my hair started falling out, I had aching joints and weird back pain that I had never experienced. I gained lots of weight, too. I got my labs done, and they did not show hypothyroid, but all my other female hormones were a mess. I am going back to Armour and praying I go back to feeling like myself."
