"Desiccated thyroid is the only replacement that lets me live a normal, healthy life post-thyroidectomy. I spent a year on Levothyroxine and was utterly and completely miserable and barely functioning physically and cognitively. Desiccated thyroid literally gave me my life back. I took Armour Thyroid for 15 years without issue, but they have recently tripled the price, so I switched to Nature-Throid. It is equally as excellent, and I'm very happy with it. Can't recommend it enough. I'm in the U.K., though, and we still get ripped off here with regard to all desiccated thyroid drugs as they aren't considered licensed medications, which means I have to pay out of pocket. Worth it, though."

"Took Synthroid for about 15 years, and although I never felt it was working for me, my doctor would only say, 'Well, your labs look good.' I read about Armour and had my doctor change me. Armour was amazing. I felt great after 2-3 months. Weight dropped, dry skin and hair improved, and my energy level significantly improved. Then all of a sudden, I developed a terrible rash on my hands. Doctors tested for contact dermatitis, other allergies, all came back negative. The only new addition to my routine was the Armour. I read other reviews that discussed the fact the Forrest Phar. had been sold, and apparently Armour was reformulated with possibly other fillers. Stopped Armour and the rash disappeared. Miss its benefits."

"I have been taking Armour Thyroid for 10 years, and it has been great. In March of 2021, I started feeling dizzy, old, weight gain, and breaking out in hives. Something has changed with Armour for sure!!! I tried Levothyroxine and was totally exhausted, so back on Armour and hives are all back again. Does anyone know if the fillers changed or something?"

"I was on Synthroid for 14 years after my thyroidectomy (thyroid cancer). My body stopped absorbing Synthroid medicine. My doctor prescribed NP Thyroid, and I figured, great, something new and I’ll finally feel better. The exact opposite happened. I had diarrhea for 2 months every single day (I’ve never had stomach issues), heart palpitations, and I was tired all the time. Talked with my doctor this week, and we checked my levels. My T3 and T4 were dangerously low. For 2 months, the medication didn’t work at all. I called the pharmaceutical company today to put in a complaint and am waiting for someone to call me on a recorded line. It’s alarming to read all of these comments and hear that we all have similar issues. I’m a working mother who needs to have my medicine to function. I’ve missed work, sporting events, and time with my family. Please look into these ingredients, fix them, or remove this medication from the market."

"I just switched back to Armour after being on NP Thyroid for years. I only switched to NP because my insurance will not cover Armour. Starting around summer 2019, I began experiencing lots of acid reflux, nausea, and pain in my stomach that would last for days. I began seeing a GI, thinking I had an ulcer or something. I had an upper scope done in Feb 2020, only to be told that everything was fine. I finally put it together that I felt fine until about 20-30 minutes after I took my pill. I asked my doctor to switch me back to Armour, and my stomach hasn’t hurt since. There is definitely something off with NP."

"My thyroid was removed in 1990. Nothing worked well for me except Armour. Then suddenly this past year, Armour was impossible to find. They're reformulating and left all of us hanging. I found out about Westhroid researching on the Internet. I've been on Westhroid for 3 months, and it was only a week before I was back to normal. It is the perfect alternative to Armour while Forest Labs leaves the people relying on their product in a lurch."

"Like most with the WP/Naturethroid shortage, was switched to this drug back in 2017. On it 4 months; 120 mg/2 grains in the am, and 30 mg/a half grain in the afternoon. Managed to get back on Naturethroid right when it became available again in early 2018, not the greatest as they reformulated it and my levels were low, but at least no side effects. When my prescription for it ran out recently, I had no insurance to see my doctor again yet, and so had no choice but to take something I already had on hand. This time, after 6 hours of taking the first dose of NP, I experienced the most profound sadness/deep depression, complete with crying spells. It lasted for hours; I was in bed crying my eyes out for no apparent reason. Not like me! And that’s not all. Headache, dizziness, anxiety, heart pounding, feeling like I was going to pass out, diarrhea, vision problems, confusion/disorientation/brain fog, no appetite, “wired but tired” feeling, shortness of breath...what a list, good grief!"

"I’ve been using Acella for a couple of years. My new bottle of 60s (has to sub the 60s for 120s because of backorder) tasted and smelled like insecticide! I took it anyway for a week. I had hypothyroid symptoms come back with a vengeance (yes, I took 2 pills). I reported my concerns to my pharmacy, and they told me they had just that day received in some 120s. So they sent me the 120s, and guess what? They taste and smell like insecticide too!! What gives? Side note: I stopped the horrible 60s and took the few remaining 120s of a prior bottle and felt 100% better, plus they didn’t smell and taste like insecticide. We shall see how this new bottle of 120 insecticide pills control my hypothyroidism."

"On Synthroid for a year post-subtotal thyroidectomy in 2002, gained 17 lbs in just a few months, hair fell out, felt miserable. Switched to Armour in 2003 and got my life and health back. Compounded thyroid is cheaper, so I started using that with no issues until last year, when I was no longer able to get my compounded thyroid as I'm now in the U.K., which only compounds thyroid for animals, not humans. Back on Armour last year and the weight started creeping back up, fatigue set in, cold at night, all the hypo symptoms came back despite my labs looking great. I put on 8 lbs in three months! Switched to Nature Throid and the weight is coming off again, and I feel normal. Forrest Pharma pulled a Martin Shkreli."

"After having my thyroid burned out 2 years ago, I was on a non-natural brand for my thyroid. I have not been feeling myself since those 2 years, always having no energy, not able to lose weight, not able to think clearly. I recently switched to Armour Thyroid, and I feel much better."

"I've been on Armour Thyroid for 4 months or so, and I've lost no weight, and I'm tired all the time, also gained weight. Having hot flashes and night sweats, and I've been feeling dizzy. My TSH is low along with my T3 and T4. It's time to switch medicines once again. I've been on 2 other medicines, and nothing is helping me. I'm so frustrated. I need some help, anyone know of a better medicine out there?"

"Will never take this rubbish again!!!! I have no thyroid and thought this would be a good med since it's natural, wrong!!!! Dizziness, heart palpitations, extreme exhaustion. I am going back to levo as my labs were horrible on NP - elevated T3, but the rest low. No more of this horrid drug."

"It took a full 15 months of treatment plus adding a low dose of an antidepressant and topical progesterone for me to see the full benefits of Armour. I became hypo shortly after menopause, experiencing severe fatigue, sleepiness, a 9 lb weight gain in spite of poor appetite and low calorie intake, dry thinning hair and nails, depression, coldness, no libido. My face took on the typical dull thyroid expression with pudgy features and the outer third of my eyebrows missing. I had high cholesterol, yet my TSH showed normal at 1.9. My GP just said to 'watch it' while I grew progressively worse. After 15 months on Armour, I've finally settled on the right dose and I feel young and great again!!"

"I never write reviews, but want to share my experience with NP Thyroid by Acella. I have many of the same problems listed here already. I have taken thyroid replacement for 20 years. I had been on Armour for years; my dosage is closely monitored as my blood levels fluctuate a lot. My doctor switched my dosage, and the pharmacy filled it with the generic NP Thyroid instead of Armour. We have new health insurance. I decided to try it; maybe it would help keep my levels more steady. Three weeks in, and this is the worst I have ever felt mentally. I have never been so depressed in my life. I have dealt with anxiety, but this is different: hopeless, weepy, with a dark depression. I have gained over 10 pounds, and all I want to do is sleep. The confusion and brain fog are almost scary; I can't remember or figure out simple things I do every day. Maybe if I could give it more time, my body would 'adjust,' but I had to call my doctor to go back to Armour. There is no way I could take the NP another day."

"I have been on some form of thyroid for 20 years. First I was on Armour, then Synthroid. But what changed all that was my thyroid cancer diagnosis 6 months ago. They kept me on Synthroid and never told me there was a difference. It seems to me that you need T4 and T3, which Armour provides. I felt so achy after my surgery. Every day my body hurt, and I was so tired and absent-minded. Also, I have had weight gain. Went to a different doctor last week and have switched to Armour. We shall see. The main difference I feel so far is less body aches. That is wonderful to me!"

"I've been on every possible thyroid med and dose up and down. Synthroid was the worst. Finally, was prescribed Armour 120, which was perfect for many years. Then recently, within the last year, something has changed in the formula. The cost has skyrocketed, Armour 120 mg x 60 tablets = $106 not covered by insurance. I'm a senior with full pharmacy benefit and 100% med coverage. Docs don't like Armour, they like Synthroid. Armour works, I've been on it for 25+ years. I had benign nodules, thought to be cancer, but no cancer! It has been a struggle. I will not give up my Armour but will seek a compounding pharmacy! Hope this helps others."

"I have been taking Armour since Feb 2014. No significant weight changes (47 yo) in past years. Suddenly had foggy brain in December 2018. Retested, and my Endo changed my dose up by 7.5 mg, which helped. I have been recently experiencing the same effect in the last 2 months. My Endo says my levels are normal, I certainly don’t feel normal, though. I will be going in soon for reevaluation. Not sure Armour is normal levels...."

"My best med is recalled, pharmacy has none. ): I was on Synthroid after my radiation (due to a thyroid storm months earlier), and the original endocrinologist refused NTDs, though my labs showed I wasn't getting T3 conversion, and the endo didn't want to 'take chances' (of me feeling good). But I finally found a doc this year who put me on Nature Throid. These last 8 months I haven't felt this good, this normal, since that awful radiation (please never do that, ever!). But today, boom: recalled! NT was so good. I started with 1 grain and immediately (that night!) felt 100% better! Went a month on that, and new labs showed I needed 2 grains. I got the 120 mg or whatever 2 grains is, and felt even more like myself! I've gotten so much done; I'm healthier (even with COVID going around)... but I couldn't refill NT because of a recall! I have a replacement (NP Thyroid —ugh, it sounds awful), so I pray in the Most Holy Name of Jesus we get Nature Thyroid back. Soon! Please!"

"I've been taking NP Thyroid for the last 6 months and am completely happy with it. It reminds me of what Naturethroid was when I was taking it after getting off Synthroid following a thyroidectomy. Prior to NP, I was given the generic version of NP, which is Levothyroxine/Liothyronine, and felt terrible on it. It reminded me of Synthroid. They were both terrible, the generic version of NP and Synthroid both made my hands and legs swell up. I gained weight on both. If you are on the generic version of NP, then you are NOT taking NP by Acella. I was also on Naturethroid after getting off Synthroid and did great on it, even lost half the weight I gained while on Synthroid, and felt 100% better within just months of being on it. Then a shortage occurred, and that's when I had to switch over to NP. I definitely feel as good as I did when I was on Naturethroid."

"Walmart pharmacy substituted NP for Armour thyroid. It makes me very depressed, sleepless, and fatigued. It makes me angry because they did this without my permission after I told them before that I didn’t want NP because of the same issues before. I would avoid NP!!!!"

"This was the email from Acella. Good afternoon, Antoinette. Thank you for contacting us, and we are here to listen to all comments and concerns. Consumers are of the utmost importance in everything that we do. We recently changed our API suppliers to an FDA-inspected and regulated source in Europe, but all of our manufacturing still takes place in the U.S. With this change, you may notice slight cosmetic and odor variances that are no cause for concern. Our formulation has and will remain consistent, along with our exacting quality standards that undergo rigorous testing to maintain that T3 and T4 always remain within the specifications by the USP. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any comments or concerns. I haven't had any symptoms return just yet. Anyone else taste cat urine, but feeling okay?"

"After being on Synthroid for thirty years and my levels not staying level, I asked my doctor to switch me to Armour, and they changed my dose one time, and my levels have been right for the last five years, and my hair has quit falling out. I begged my past doctors to try it, and they wouldn’t. Thank goodness for the doctor I have today, plus I’ve been able to lose weight, and I’m almost to where my normal weight should be. I think sometimes doctors should really listen to their patients, thank goodness mine let me try something different, and it’s working."

"I've been on a combination of Westhroid and Nature-Throid due to the shortages for a couple of months now. Gradually been upping the dose, and FINALLY today, after yesterday's increase, my abdominal bloating is down! I've been afraid to 'up' my dose in fear of not getting enough supply. But the bloating was so bad-none of my clothes fit-and I looked 8 months pregnant. That and other non-abating symptoms forced me to up one more grain, and voila! Now, the other fear is will my doctor 'freak' out? Last labs showed low-end free T's and a very suppressed TSH-which, as we know, makes doctors go nutty. But it does appear Westhroid is a bit easier to get."

"I kept feeling bloated at the top part of my tummy. I had heart palpitations, then realized that they changed my medication from Armour Thyroid to NP Thyroid. I actually just stopped taking it. I know I probably shouldn't, but with COVID-19 and no doctor's appointment in sight, I just wanted to feel better, and I do! I thought I'd start taking Armour again and called the doctor's office, and much to my surprise, they called it in. I checked online with the pharmacy, and it's NP Thyroid! OMG, are you kidding me? I have to call the pharmacy tomorrow and see about changing to Armour again. Geesh! I used to take NP fine until several months ago."

"I have been taking NP Thyroid for about 2 1/2 years. I have no thyroid, it was removed due to cancer many years ago. I always thought it tasted nasty and smelled bad. But it had worked very well up until August 2019. I have gained 7 pounds unexplainably. I am super careful about my diet: low carbs, healthy, etc. Please, whatever you have done as a company, change the dynamics back on the NP Thyroid. It once worked!"
