"Seven years ago, I started out on Levothyroxine but it took forever to adjust the dosage and I actually never did adjust. I told my doctor that my mother took Armour Thyroid for thirty years, so I asked if she could try me on that. She did put me on Armour Thyroid and it quickly worked just fine. I am in stage four kidney failure and Armour Thyroid has had no side effects in any areas. I have not had my thyroid removed and I take 45 milligrams daily. It's simple to use. The only drawback is that I have a $78 copay, which I'd rather pay than get Levothyroxine for free with no copay because Armour Thyroid works well for me and Levothyroxine did not. Thanks."

"Dr. put me on Armour Thyroid after taking me off Levothyroxine, and Armour has done absolutely nothing in the way of making me feel better. I was taken off Levothyroxine because I felt as though I had bugs crawling on me, so Dr. took me off of it thinking I might be having a reaction to the medication. Since then, talking to my personal trainer, who recommended that I see his Dr. who specializes in thyroid and hormones. I visited a new Dr. today, they drew 5 vials of blood, which they will test all levels of my thyroid, hormone levels, as well as any and all complete blood work, including cholesterol. I'm awaiting an appointment next week for results. Levothyroxine gave me great energy but lots of itching. Armour is out for me....no results in feeling better."

"This is my second go-round with Armour. I experienced the same exact problems. After two days, I began having pulsating throughout my body, especially my head. I cannot lay down to sleep at all. The ringing in my ears is horrible. I also cannot tolerate Levothyronine, Synthroid, and NP Thyroid. Going to try Tirosint."

"I am on 60 mg of Armour. I was on Cytomel and felt better. My numbers got worse, so my doctor switched me to Armour. It's okay, but I still can't lose those 10 lbs. that I want to, and I've never had a hard time losing weight. I get really tired at night too. I like the idea of Armour since it's been around for so long, but I just wish I could lose this weight and have a little more energy at night."

"I was just diagnosed with underachieving thyroid. My labs have been low for quite some time. Trying to heal my leaky gut in hopes of getting my thyroid issues better. Well, after working on it for 6 months with a Functional Medicine NP, it wasn't better, so I just started Armour 30mg. Today is day 1 for me. Hoping many of the symptoms I suffer will get better. I really don't want to be on this. The symptoms I have are early a.m. waking, low sex drive and anorgasmia, cold but sweating, fatigue, muscle loss, muscle weakness, dry skin, thinning hair."

"I have been taking Armour for 1 1/2 years, lost 13 pounds, I do not need to lose weight, I feel too thin now. My joints ache, one knee has swollen, feeling tired. I also noticed that having one beer or cocktail leaves me very ill the next day. T3 level is low, so my doctor said to try two 60 mg a day (one morning/night)."

"I started Armour Thyroid 60 mg about 2 months ago, and what has unfolded has been absolutely terrible. While my thyroid levels went up and I lost 10 lbs, I also had serious side effects including debilitating fatigue, tremors, anxiety, heart palpitations, syncope, and vision problems. I went downhill so fast doctors were convinced I had a pituitary tumor, which according to the MRI I don’t. I took myself off the medication, and I have slowly begun to feel more like myself again. My sister took Armour Thyroid before it was reformulated and loved it, she even went to Canada to get it when it was no longer available in the US. When it did become available, she got it right away and had terrible side effects as well. She went off it and now takes ERFA and is happy with it."

"Armour thyroid gave me my life back. I’ve suffered from hypothyroidism due to loss of thyroid function for over two decades. Levothyroxine helped at first, but then made me feel worse than I did in an unmedicated state, I can't even get out of bed for more than a couple of hours. I take Armour twice daily (at 7 am and 2 pm), and I now work and attend school. The change from levothyroxine to Armour has been life-changing, but the dose has to be EXACT, and the prescriber must know how to properly test for and adjust the dose."

"I had used Armour Thyroid 5 yrs. ago. I had bowel surgery, which really messed my whole body up. I stopped it. Now, I started Armour Thyroid back up, seems I cannot be without it. I got sick and continue to do so if I cannot get this medication. I get more sick if I get Synthroid and the other thyroid meds. However, with Armour Thyroid, it already has the T3 and T4 for me, so my body will not break down the Synthroid or other thyroid meds, as with Armour Thyroid, it's a Godsend. Now, I got a pharmacy that's using a compound to make my 30 mg for me in a capsule format. I feel I need my 60 mg back as I was on 5 yrs. ago. I feel the capsules compound isn't right or not as strong, seems I need more to make me feel better."

"I called Forrest Pharmaceuticals, and the customer service rep told me they are NOT planning on discontinuing, but they are having trouble getting enough of the active ingredients (pig thyroid) to meet demand. Thank you 'Swine Flu' for causing people to be afraid to consume pork. I feared this would happen when the scare about swine flu first hit the news."

"I've been taking Levoxyl brand, not the generic, for about 10 years for my hypothyroidism with no side effects. Synthroid and Armour both didn't agree with me... Synthroid gave me heart palpitations - at one point I thought I was having a heart attack! And Armour, OMG, the stench every time I opened the bottle made me want to hurl."

"To everyone who is going through what I am going through - no Armour Thyroid medication! I've searched high and low for the medication, with everyone telling me I have no choice but to try something different, and my reply to the different pharmacies was I have been on every other thyroid medication there is, and they don't work! Well, thank God for my pharmacist Greg over at Rite Aid. He said there was a pharmacy in Beverly, MA, who will make my medication pills of Armour Thyroid, which is a little bit pricier, $80.00 for the 90 mg tablets, of which I take 2 x 90 mg a day, so 60 tablets for $80. So, if you can find a pharmacy in your area that makes compounds, you will be all set!"

"I have used Armour Thyroid for over 15 years. Works great for me. About 8 years ago, was given Armour thyroid generic, and it gave me heart palpitations, and I immediately went back to regular Armour. Insurance or Medicare won’t pay for it, but I will take nothing else."

"All of a sudden, my nails got stronger! My family doctor would never give a referral to see an endo. I finally did get a referral from a gastro doctor for GERD. I told him about my throat voice and GERD. Then he said my regular doctor took me off levo on Saturday, then Sundays too. I felt terrible taking it anyways. TSH was normal. I still felt bad, terrible. My whole family, I found out, does better on it. I just get to see an endocrinologist on Friday to get my results after 3 months. I have atrophy, and I did have 30 years ago, finally diagnosed with myxedema coma symptoms. My body was not storing iodine. I just plain feel better. I need to get more regulated still. Hope my results will be promising. No more anxiety, heart stuff feeling... My dad said his hands stopped hurting on Armour. Mine were weirdly aching a lot. Now, after 3 months, hardly anymore! Will see only 3 months in... I will update."

"I had to get Armour prior authorized as my insurer wouldn't otherwise cover it, and I could not afford it. I haven't had any complaints about the potency so far; as my medication is increased, I start to feel better. Most of the time, my levels stay normal, but my other medications, including propranolol and carbamazepine, affect my thyroid levels and can cause low T3. So, once my endo puts me on 120 mg per day, we are going to add T3 to it. It does keep my T4 steady, though. The unfortunate part of this is that Armour is mostly T4, so some people have to add T3 to it, and that seems to include me."

"I have been mostly on Armour for the last 25 years, with a few years recently on NP until it became unavailable, then switched back to Armour. Initially got tired of having constantly escalating prices by greedy people. Pig thyroids are not in shortage, and Armour used to be dirt cheap until the company got bought out. I switched to Synthroid in September. Absolutely no difference, except a lot less money. Two lab tests show the same TSH. I am perfectly satisfied with Synthroid. Armour works well but is not worth the exorbitant price."

"I have been on this since 1955 and take it daily with no obvious reactions. It is extremely easy to take, even without having to use liquids to swallow. I initially was on levothyroxine, which caused an allergic reaction and apparently did not work, so I was transferred to this. At this time, I really feel no difference than before being told I needed medication."

"I took levothyroxine for three years, and my period was inconsistent, maybe only getting one per year. Finally got my doctor to switch me over to Armour, and my period is back. I’m 30, I’ve been on the medication for two months now, still tired, but my body may still be adjusting."

"I have tried Levothyroxine, Synthroid, NThyroid. They did not work for me. I did much better on Armour Thyroid. I have noticed in the last few months that I have more muscle pain and more tired. Have they changed the formula? Insurance won't pay for it. I'm assuming because the FDA has not approved it."

"I had trouble getting Armour brand too. I found a local pharmacy that carries a generic desiccated thyroid pill. It works just as well (for me), and it's very economical."

"BEWARE! I don't know how this medication gets so many good reviews. I guess I must be one of the few that this has not helped one bit. I have hypothyroidism and started with Synthroid. I didn't like it all that much and started researching for an alternative and asked my Dr. if I could switch. I thought Armour would be a more natural and better approach to my issue. BIG MISTAKE. This medication does zero for me, it's like not taking anything at all, but you are paying for pills that do nothing. I took this medicine for 4 months because I thought it might take a little extra time to get the benefits everyone raves about. In the course of those months, my hair started falling, my skin was/is looking awful, I felt cold all the time, I have gained weight regardless of what I do, I felt tired every day, I couldn't sleep. I switched to a different brand of porcine thyroid med that does not have great reviews online, but works."
