For Urinary Tract Infection "Today was the first day I took this medication. Two hours after, I experienced joint pain, blurred vision, back pain, a headache, chills, fever, nausea, cough, and sore throat. This was in addition to my already severe urinary tract infection symptoms, which I was sent to the ER for the night before, including severe pain in the pelvis, achy back (kidneys). Although symptoms of a severe UTI can also be fever, pain in the flank (pain that runs along the back at about waist level), chills, and nausea, I believe the medication gave me the additional symptoms. I was fine all day long until around two hours after taking the pill. After about 3 hours, symptoms increasingly went away. I am not sure if the pills are working or if they wore off."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "Was prescribed to take 2 pills a day for 5 days to clear a boil that hadn’t popped yet. Worst decision to take. After 1 pill, I had stomach cramps, nausea, diarrhea, and some jitters. I took the 2nd pill after consulting a family friend that is a doctor in another state, and the jitters got worse, my heart rate went up, and I woke up in the middle of the night having a panic attack. Consulted my family friend again (since couldn’t reach my doctor), and he agreed to stop the medicine since the side effects were worse than the potential benefit. Threw out the bottle and will be chatting with my doctor and maybe get a second opinion soon."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I’m a 20-year-old female with a history of gastrointestinal issues. I was worried about taking this drug because of all the negative reviews, but I had no problem with it. Took it for three days, experienced mild nausea and headaches, but my UTI symptoms were gone by day two. I also take 10 mg of amitriptyline daily and was worried about using them together, but the side effects didn’t disrupt my schedule at all. Every time I took a pill, I drank a whole bottle of water (16 oz) and ate a full meal. I think that is the most important part, because when I had a light meal, I did experience some stomach pain, but nothing severe. Also, I was very gassy, but that wasn’t really an issue, LOL. I’d recommend Bactrim."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This is an awful medication, and I recommend it to anyone. Went to the ER for stomach pain to find out I had a bad UTI. Took 1 pill that the doc gave me and was completely fine. Took the next pill 12 hours later, with some saltine crackers and a bottle of water. 4 hours later, I was shaky, nauseated, thought I was going to throw up, my heart rate sped up, I had a fever (did go down with ibuprofen), had a minor rash on my cheeks, headache. Now marks 6 hours after taking it, laying down with a towel over my head, took Benadryl to help with the rash. Nausea has eased some, heating pad helps, the rash is not as red. Going back to the ER tomorrow for a different medicine. I'd rather take Amoxicillin, never have any reactions with that."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I often suffer from UTI. And Bactrim Forte is the antibiotic that I usually use to treat them. The only side effect that I have noticed is headache, with a little nausea and dizziness. I also take Ultra Levure with antibiotics to avoid a yeast infection."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Bactrim was the worst antibiotics I have taken. I was prescribed this medicine for a UTI from the Dr, and I took one pill before I went to bed and felt fine. It was like 4 am when I got hit with a massive headache from hell. I could not sleep, and then about 2 hours later, around 6 am, I started vomiting until all I could vomit out was my stomach acid. Horrible! That day, I still had a bad headache and was nauseous all day. I discontinued the pill and flushed them all down the toilet!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I'm on day 2 of treating a urinary tract infection. I have been trying my best not to puke. I'm so nauseous, tired, and dizzy. I've had an irritation from my UTI, it hasn't cleared up yet, so I will have to see what the rest of the week brings. I've never had problems with antibiotics before."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Was on 2 doses of Bactrim for 7 days for UTI. After 3 days, the UTI symptoms were much better -- but I developed nausea and worse, a dizzy/spinning feeling that made me unable to drive and had to miss work. The dizziness stopped after about 24 hours of not taking the drug. Never again."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "Prescribed Bactrim for boils on abdomen/legs. I was only able to take it for 3 days, due to the adverse reaction. The boils are much better (and I hope they don't come back), but the back pain, abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea were enough to make me stop taking it. Plus, I'm not sure if this is a medicine of choice for anyone with ulcerative colitis, but now I'm having a huge flare of that!"

For Middle Ear Infections "Nasty side effects, but very, very slowly relieved symptoms. Took many days to get used to side effects. Better than the other antibiotic I seem to be allergic to, though. Nausea, chest pains/anxiety, insomnia, night sweats, headache, dehydration."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This stuff should be taken off the market! I took this for a UTI. As soon as it got in my system good, I began to feel fatigued and nauseated. Stomach cramps got worse, and I just generally did not feel well. Actually, I felt worse than I did with the UTI! After 4 days on it, I developed achy joints (particularly my knees), and the nausea was unbearable. My eyes felt completely dilated, and I just felt like I was overdosing on this stuff. My kidneys even started hurting! And yes, I know to take antibiotics with food (I made the mistake of not doing so once, never again!). I stopped taking it and went back to the doctor, who also recommended me to stop taking Bactrim. The dosage was the generic 800/160, 2X a day. I think this is WAY too strong a dosage for some people, and doctors need to stop just prescribing this stuff without taking into account what each individual person's body may be able to handle."

For Urinary Tract Infection "So glad I visited and read all these reviews. I thought I was going mad! I'm halfway through a 5-day x 2 a day script and feel just awful - fevers, then freezing cold, aches, pains, and dull headache, and the nausea and reflux is like being pregnant (except I'm menopausal!). Hopefully, the UTI is ebbing and, like others, I can't wait to stop taking it in a couple of days."

For Bacterial Infection "I have a small either cyst or some type of mass on the back of my neck under the skin. Doctor said it could be due to some type of staph. He prescribed me Bactrim, aka sulfameth. trimethoprim. He said two weeks to take this, and if it does not go away, we will need to lance it. Which in a way, I'm glad, it bothers me. Anyways, I went to the pharmacy to get my medicine and went home. I actually started the same day taking my pill. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday I felt okay. But come Monday, about 3 a.m., I got up and had diarrhea. Multiple times I felt nauseous and achy. At 7 a.m., I felt it in my throat, I vomited, and after that, I had a horrible headache. Can't eat, I feel as though my joints are stiff. Doc is changing my meds. No sulfa again!"

For Acne "While I was only on Bactrim for one week, I feel like it was an experience to share! In this week, I did notice a difference in my skin, and it was probably the best my face has ever looked. That being said, I developed allergy symptoms pretty quickly but did not make the connection right away. High fever and nausea for a few days before a full-body rash on the 8th day. I was taking two pills a day. Always watch for symptoms and consult the doctor. I would still recommend this medication to others as it appeared VERY promising at clearing up my moderate hormonal acne. If I could go on it again, I would."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've been taking Bactrim since Friday, it's now Sunday. My doctor told me it's a urinary tract infection, but the only symptoms I'm having are the urge to pee with little urine. Vaginal itching that comes and goes with discharge. I'm ready to stop the medicine, but I know I can't. I've missed two doses because the side effects are me feeling dizzy, feeling nauseous, a bad headache, and loss of appetite. I don't know what to do. I feel like if I stop taking it for a possible UTI, it won't go away. But I don't feel it's a UTI 'cause I'm not having burning when I pee, only after I pee, I have an itchy feeling that I want to scratch with tissue, but I know I can't do that either. I really need help, and I hope someone sees this who can give me honest answers. I've been to the health unit and two hospitals, they've all given different results."

For Urinary Tract Infection "If you read one review, read mine. I am very angered by all of the scare mongering about this drug. I've taken Bactrim, off and on, for decades, to treat a UTI, and I've never had any bad effects from it. In fact, Bactrim literally KNOCKS OUT your UTI symptoms - namely that horrid pain/pressure you feel in your lower belly, usually within 24 hours of taking it. It works like a charm. I would not keep taking this drug if it had bad effects. So my advice to you is to ignore all the bad reviews on here. This drug, at worst, might make you feel a bit nauseous, but I honestly can't think of any other bad effects from it. Don't suffer the discomfort of a UTI when this medication will knock out your infection quickly. Trust me on this. Take the tablets."

For Urinary Tract Infection "First two times I took this, it was a lower dose and worked great for UTI. On a higher dose after standard antibiotics failed, I feel like I'm dying. Fatigue, nausea, dizziness, abdominal pain, just completely wretched all around. So awful I am probably going to simply go celibate as an alternative to risking another stubborn UTI."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim after having an abscess on my leg drained. I started feeling horrible immediately. Joint pain, nausea, loss of appetite, high fevers. I ended up in the hospital for 3 days for drug fever and am still feeling the effects a week after coming home. I would not suggest taking this."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I will never take this drug again. I was on 180 mg for 3 days to fight off a UTI. By the second day of taking it, my heart rate started to increase for no reason, I was very jittery, nauseous, and couldn't sleep. I managed to get the full 3-day treatment in to get rid of the infection, but I will never take it again. I've been off the drug for 5 days now and still have a slightly elevated heart rate. Went to the doctor to make sure everything was okay - everything came back good, the doctor just said some people react this way to the drug."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I am on a three-day dose of Bactrim twice a day for a slight UTI. I was fine the 1st day of taking the medication, but since then I have felt so sick all day (I have taken it with full meals) and fatigued and diarrhea. It is horrible!!! I am on my last day, and I can’t wait to be off of it because the nausea is the worst!!! I was worried that it was something else until I came here and read other people’s reviews and seeing as it didn’t start until after taking the medication! Mind you, I have taken this medication before and never had any side effects!"

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed this for an infection on my scalp. I took two doses, and it started with muscle twitches all night long, with a racing heart. I almost threw up several times, and my stomach was very unhappy, which was to be expected, but it was more severe than I thought. I haven’t taken a dose in 2 days, and since then, I have had a nagging zinging pain in my left shoulder. I also have had a weird sharp pain in my right forearm."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "Was prescribed Bactrim-DS BID for 10 days for an infected cut on my wrist from punching glass. The first 2 days were HORRIBLE. I was tachycardic, nauseous, gassy, itchy on arms/legs, and had no appetite, jaw clenching, and severe panic attacks. Plus, my symptoms were just getting worse. I was forming clusters of stinging/itching blisters around my cuts, my wrist was swollen and warm to the touch, and I felt feverish. I ended up getting prescribed Keflex to take with Bactrim starting Day 3. Side effects subsided and symptoms got better. Some nights, I'd wake up at 3 AM with a panic attack that lasted until I took my next dose. Other nights, I'd be able to sleep just fine. Days 6-7, I got gas pain that felt like chest pain. The side effects didn't get better until Day 8. By then, all I had was some itchiness but no full-on rash. I never want to take this drug again. I give it 3 stars only because it did treat my infection despite taking all 10 days and all my willpower to pull through."

For Bacterial Infection "I have not had a good experience using Bactrim. The first day's dosage caused no side effects, however, by day 6, I had headaches, severe heartburn, nausea, chills, severe muscle weakness, depression, anxiety, and generally felt unwell. I took each dose with a full glass of water and a full stomach, as recommended. I am supposed to take this for 4 more days, but I will call my doctor for an alternative treatment."
