For Urinary Tract Infection "I got a UTI a month ago. I went to a clinic, and they prescribed Macrobid, and it did little to nothing for my UTI. I then went to my uni campus clinic, and they prescribed the same thing (I didn’t know they were the same thing at the time because this time it was the generic version, so it had a different name), and again it did nothing. I was so frustrated and in so much pain, so finally I went back for a 3rd time, and they prescribed me Bactrim, and within a couple of hours, I already felt SO much better. The Bactrim did more in a few hours than the Macrobid did in 2 weeks. I did get mild nausea and some fatigue, but that’s it. Take it with food and yogurt to prevent this!"

For Bacterial Infection "I have not had a good experience using Bactrim. The first day's dosage caused no side effects, however, by day 6, I had headaches, severe heartburn, nausea, chills, severe muscle weakness, depression, anxiety, and generally felt unwell. I took each dose with a full glass of water and a full stomach, as recommended. I am supposed to take this for 4 more days, but I will call my doctor for an alternative treatment."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was given a 3-day prescription to treat a UTI. After taking the first dose, I noticed I felt a little anxious, but went to bed. I woke up about 3 hours later with a rapid heartbeat, mild nausea, cold sweat, restlessness. This continued for about 6 more hours. I was able to drink plenty of liquid to try to flush it out of me, which worked pretty well. Twelve hours later, I feel a lot more normal, but now tired from the experience. I won't take this again. This reaction was worse than my symptoms of the UTI."

For Middle Ear Infections "Where do I start? I was feeling so icky and found out I had a double ear infection. My doctor decided to put me on Bactrim. That was the worst medication ever. I've had back pain, dizziness, and nausea ever since starting it. The other odd side effect is the nasty perfume taste and smell I keep smelling."

For Kidney Infections "I got sick the day after Christmas. Thought I was just having nausea, but it progressed to a very painful tummy and back, so I went to the ER with my husband a few days later. I had a kidney infection, so they put me on the generic for Bactrim for 10 days. I felt no different till a few days in, and that's when I got some relief, but also side effects such as persistent and constant nausea and headaches. Wasn't too bad. Then I felt excited on my last day because I truly felt better (minus stomach cramps that I didn't think were serious at the time). But then, less than 24 hours later, I started feeling bad again with my back and tummy, so we went to the ER, and they put me on the generic for Macrobid. This is day one of that. We'll see how it goes."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Listen! No! Heck no! Absolutely NOT!!! I was prescribed Macrobid, but itching started and my face felt numb just after the 2nd dose!!! So my doctor switched me to Bactrim! I will say the first 2 pills weren’t so bad. Little nausea, slight headache. But baaaabbbby, this 3rd pill is the awful! I’m currently shivering as I type this. I’m in a robe and under covers. Make it make sense. Prior to this, I had a scare... my heart rate increased so high!!!! Talk about a rapid beating out of nowhere, I FREAKED out!!!! I should’ve read the reviews and listened! I didn’t listen... thinking I’d have a better outcome. I had 3 pills left. I’m not taking that!! I’ll keep drinking my water and flushing my system because the symptoms were milder than the antibiotic!!!! We all are different indeed, but dang how can your body handle this stuff? Still shivering, by the way. I was given this twice a day for 3 days."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was a little worried after reading the reviews, and on top of that, my mom had a really bad reaction (fever, horrible chills, etc.). I was a little queasy the first few doses, but it wasn't even enough to keep me from eating. After that, I had no side effects at all. Overall, my experience was great!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "I've had many UTIs in the past but usually keep them at bay by taking cranberry pills daily. Well, I slacked and got a UTI. I think I've taken Bactrim before, but I don't ever recall feeling like this. I was fine this morning, but by noon was very shaky. I felt hungry and nauseous at the same time. Forced myself to eat and felt slightly better but couldn't focus on work and am feeling down in the dumps (depressed?). I also had trouble sleeping last night. Oh, and my pee still burns after two doses. So if the symptoms don't improve by tomorrow, I'm going to see about switching to something else."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Bactrim after two other antibiotics failed to cure my UTI, and let me tell you, not only did it not work, but I also had a violent allergic reaction to it. I was suffering from my first UTI (first of many to come sadly). The symptoms went away pretty quickly after taking the first pill but came back after I stopped taking the medicine two days later. From what I remember, I got really sick: chills, high fever, nausea, complete loss of appetite, extreme fatigue, and red patches all over my body, but especially on my arms, legs, and chest. I had swollen lips as the first indication, but as I was young, I didn’t understand it at first. When I went back to the doctor, he said it was a pretty powerful medicine and that he knew beforehand that the risk of allergy was higher than with other medicines. I don’t hold it against him though, it was very frustrating not to find anything that would work to cure this UTI."

For Sinusitis "At first, I found myself with more energy and simply lost my appetite, which didn't bother me. Then, the second day, I suffered nausea and vomiting. I discontinued the medicine on the second day, but the nausea and vomiting continue."

For Bacterial Infection "The medication works, my stomach just hates it. I had surgery on two places on my foot on 05/21/21 and had some difficulty with healing on one incision site. There was a lot of redness, so the doctor prescribed Bactrim, as I am at high risk for infection. I didn’t notice any issues the first day (1 pill in the evening), though the redness and swelling went down right away. But after I’d taken the second dose about 18-20 hours after the first, I started feeling really nauseous, I am extremely tired, and diarrhea has set in. I have had issues with other antibiotics in the past as well."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I’m taking 160 mg every 12 hours for a UTI. And I took my seventh pill this morning. The first day I took it, I felt completely fine, no side effects at all. The next morning, I woke up and felt horrible, my back, where my kidneys are, hurt bad. I had a severe cramp where my liver sits underneath my right rib cage, to the point I couldn’t even manage to walk around. I felt sick to my stomach, dizzy, just plain horrible. I went to the hospital, thinking my liver was failing on me, everything checked out fine. At first, I didn’t know it was the medication doing this, so I continued to take it. I laid in my bed for three days straight. And today, I honestly feel like I’m going to die, it’s making me feel very detached from reality. I feel like I’m going to throw up everywhere, my head is pounding, I feel tired but can’t sleep. I am 27 years old and have been healthy up to this point, NO HEALTH PROBLEMS. I'm stopping this medication, and I'm hoping I’ll feel better in a couple of days."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was just prescribed this antibiotic today due to a staph infection in each leg from shaving. My doctor mentioned MRSA, needless to say, I'm freaking out over this. Regardless, it's been about 4 hours since I took the first pill - obviously, the infection sites haven't gotten any better, but I'm hoping they do. As far as side effects go, I'm lucky so far to only have a little bit of heartburn and slight nausea/loss of appetite. I'm crossing my fingers this stuff works for me!"

For Bacterial Skin Infection "I was prescribed this for a boil. Do not take this drug if you're on an antidepressant. I took this Friday, and by Monday, I started to get extreme anxiety and depression, lightheaded, dizzy, nausea, stomach problems. I stopped taking it Monday morning, and today, Tuesday morning, I’m still feeling the effects, but they are lessening. Talk to the doctor about another antibiotic."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took it for a UTI, and it definitely makes me feel better a few hours later. But every single time I took it, it makes me throw up even with food. Couldn't sleep, really bad headache, and extremely sick. Had to go to the ER, and they prescribed me ondansetron, which helps with the vomiting. Macrobid is way better. If you have to take it, ask your doctor to prescribe you some type of medication that helps with the nausea."

For Urinary Tract Infection "So I had been feeling bad for about a month. I finally went to the ER for a UTI, which they said had turned into a kidney infection. IV antibiotics, and Bactrim. They told me that I should be feeling better within 3 days, if not, come back. Day 1 bad, day 2 horrible. I literally had no energy, I was getting weaker and weaker by the second and was becoming very scared. I was so nauseous, I could not think about drinking a sip of water, which we all know with that infection is very important! I couldn’t sleep, I was having nightmares. I actually got so tired of hearing myself complain to my family. I went to a different ER. They ran tests and did a CT, of course, this all came back with the antibiotic working. I know my body, it’s been a week, and I’m getting worse. And I can’t urinate. So I will be going back to the ER today before it kills me."

"I’m 59, 125 lbs, and in great health. I started taking Bactrim last week (today is day 3) for a staph infection in my nose. I have been nauseous ever since. Every time I stand up, I get sick. I can’t drive and don’t feel like eating. I feel like a passenger in a vehicle going up a windy road (a severe case of motion sickness). My nose has cleared up, but I don’t think I can do another day."

For Prostatitis "I went to the doctor for prostatitis and was prescribed Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole). Some background, I have high-functioning anxiety and decided to write this review while I wait for my doctor to call me back about changing antibiotics. These other reviews are 100% accurate about severe anxiety (heart rate over 90 BPM 24/7), headaches, loss of appetite, and nausea... nothing better than throwing up stomach bile because you can't eat. I thought I had COVID but tested negative... On the bright side, after 3 days, my prostatitis went away, I guess it's a double-edged sword."

For Bacterial Skin Infection "Bactrim is extremely effective - where other antibiotics might fail - but many doctors seem to underestimate the severity of side effects (including uncommon ones). It is always difficult for me to be consistent with Bactrim dosage because I experience severe nausea and bouts of dizziness. It may be easy to complain, but I also recognize that an alternative might not be appropriate. Instead, I asked to also be prescribed anti-nausea medication. It's not fun, but it can be tolerable."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed a 5-day course of Bactrim to get rid of a UTI. Giving it a 5 rating because it worked, but I have been so sick since taking it. I have flu-like symptoms, chills, sweating, dizziness, and severe nausea. Tylenol helps with the head and body aches. I took my last dose yesterday and still feel like garbage. Hope it gets better soon."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was on 3 different antibiotics, none helped to rid the UTI. I was then given Bactrim. My second dose, I felt so bad I felt like going to the ER. My head hurt day and night, I was nauseous, just couldn’t function. I called the doctor, he told me to continue taking it. It is a strong medication. He said if I couldn’t take the pills, he would have to give it with an IV antibiotics. I am being told I have this UTI, and it is so bad that’s what I have to take. I have no symptoms of a UTI."

For Prostatitis "Was prescribed Bactrim 2x/day for 30 days for prostatitis symptoms. First day fine, but by the third day, throbbing neck pain that aspirin or Tylenol didn't take care of. No excessive leaning forward or sleeping on my stomach to crank the neck, so I believe it was from the drug. Little bit of nausea and anxiety at the same time. Hard to say if it did much for my prostate because by the time I started, I was 70% better from my initial doctor visit."

For Kidney Infections "Went to ER 3 days ago with a UTI that spread to my kidneys. Was given Bactrim, 2 a day for 14 days. I cannot sleep, constant nausea, and last night I literally felt like I couldn’t breathe. Kidney infection is much better, but I’m not sure I can finish this prescription because this medication is no joke!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Everyone reacts to drugs in different ways, however, I will never again take Bactrim. I started feeling tired and got a bad headache the second day after taking it. That same night was even worse... I felt nauseous, my head hurt even worse, and all I could do was cry. I felt like I wasn't even in my own body. The medicine definitely messed with my head. It was the worst feeling ever. Now I know to never take Bactrim or any other sulfur drugs!"
