"This is an awful medication, and I recommend it to anyone. Went to the ER for stomach pain to find out I had a bad UTI. Took 1 pill that the doc gave me and was completely fine. Took the next pill 12 hours later, with some saltine crackers and a bottle of water. 4 hours later, I was shaky, nauseated, thought I was going to throw up, my heart rate sped up, I had a fever (did go down with ibuprofen), had a minor rash on my cheeks, headache. Now marks 6 hours after taking it, laying down with a towel over my head, took Benadryl to help with the rash. Nausea has eased some, heating pad helps, the rash is not as red. Going back to the ER tomorrow for a different medicine. I'd rather take Amoxicillin, never have any reactions with that."

"Not a good option for me. I will never take it again. I was prescribed Bactrim for a recurring UTI. I think I may have taken it before and done fine, but not this time. I took my first pill in the evening and vomited. I didn’t really think much about it. I have the lap band, so that’s not all that unusual. I took my second dose the next morning and started going about my day. I started feeling body aches in all of my joints within four hours, with a slight headache. By the afternoon, I couldn’t tolerate light. I had a high fever and was short of breath. I was itchy, and some of my skin tags had become swollen and irritated. Every cell in my body hurt like I had been beaten with a bat. It was miserable, and I felt like death. Those symptoms lasted all night. The headache was the most debilitating part for me. Kind of afraid to take the new RX after that experience."

"I hope my information can help someone! Here's my story: I was put on Bactrim for 7 days for a UTI. It helped my symptoms, but my urine looked off. I finished the course, there was blood in my urine, but no infection. UTI symptoms back. I went to the doc and begged for another course of Bactrim. I had bladder spasms, and that urine color came back. I thought I was doomed for IC. Weird until I researched and found out that Bactrim can cause bladder spasms and blood in urine! I stopped the antibiotic (ask doc first) and decided to detox my liver with turmeric tea (recipe online). Currently symptom-free!! Not sure why docs prescribe this if the side effect is blood in urine, it could be dangerous if you think blood is from infection! (For me, it was dark tea color.)"

"I often suffer from UTI. And Bactrim Forte is the antibiotic that I usually use to treat them. The only side effect that I have noticed is headache, with a little nausea and dizziness. I also take Ultra Levure with antibiotics to avoid a yeast infection."

"I was prescribed Bactrim for a UTI. Day one, I thought I had the flu. Day 2, I could barely walk. Joints hurt very badly-ankles, knees, wrists, and shoulders. I stopped taking this medication. Called the doctor to prescribe something else."

"Bactrim was the worst antibiotics I have taken. I was prescribed this medicine for a UTI from the Dr, and I took one pill before I went to bed and felt fine. It was like 4 am when I got hit with a massive headache from hell. I could not sleep, and then about 2 hours later, around 6 am, I started vomiting until all I could vomit out was my stomach acid. Horrible! That day, I still had a bad headache and was nauseous all day. I discontinued the pill and flushed them all down the toilet!"

"I'm on day 2 of treating a urinary tract infection. I have been trying my best not to puke. I'm so nauseous, tired, and dizzy. I've had an irritation from my UTI, it hasn't cleared up yet, so I will have to see what the rest of the week brings. I've never had problems with antibiotics before."

"Had a three-day course for UTI. No reaction at all. After one pill and a good night's sleep, I felt a whole lot better. I don't like taking drugs and frequently have very strange side effects. Not with this one. It only helped."

"Short and sweet: I'm a person who suffers from pure OCD, panic attacks, and I'm allergic to all the cillin family. I recommend this medication. Note that everyone is different and not cookie cutter. Not every med is for every body. The only side effects I've had are slight pressure in the lower throat, a very slight increase in anxiety (but I'm medicated for that), and being overly tired. IDK what's up with the fatigue of it all, but it's a bad fatigue. Unnatural body weakness and feeling of lethargy. I would rate it 10/10 if it weren't for the sleepiness alone. It works though. It works so good!"

"I'm on day 5 of Bactrim, and it sure is hard work. I don't know what makes up Bactrim, but its side effects remind me of an opiate! I am 18 and go to the gym every day, and I cannot work out properly anymore. I'm so dizzy and tired, I also have this weird mind fog. I did 7 miles on the bike at the gym today, and boy, did that take a lot out of me. This medication really sucks. I recommend drinking lots and lots of water."

"I had a UTI for about a month. I was on Cipro for 10 days and Bactrim for 10 days. I went for a urinalysis and was prescribed Bactrim. I have only been taking it for 3 days and am already starting to feel way better. The only downside is that I've noticed that my urine is very smelly and brightly colored. I'm hoping that I feel back to my normal self within the next few days."

"Was on 2 doses of Bactrim for 7 days for UTI. After 3 days, the UTI symptoms were much better -- but I developed nausea and worse, a dizzy/spinning feeling that made me unable to drive and had to miss work. The dizziness stopped after about 24 hours of not taking the drug. Never again."

"It worked the first time I had a UTI. No change in symptoms the second time I was prescribed this medication since it is a weaker antibiotic for UTIs. Didn't really have any negative side effects besides not wanting to eat, but I think that was just the demon from hell UTI."

"This stuff should be taken off the market! I took this for a UTI. As soon as it got in my system good, I began to feel fatigued and nauseated. Stomach cramps got worse, and I just generally did not feel well. Actually, I felt worse than I did with the UTI! After 4 days on it, I developed achy joints (particularly my knees), and the nausea was unbearable. My eyes felt completely dilated, and I just felt like I was overdosing on this stuff. My kidneys even started hurting! And yes, I know to take antibiotics with food (I made the mistake of not doing so once, never again!). I stopped taking it and went back to the doctor, who also recommended me to stop taking Bactrim. The dosage was the generic 800/160, 2X a day. I think this is WAY too strong a dosage for some people, and doctors need to stop just prescribing this stuff without taking into account what each individual person's body may be able to handle."

"I started the Bactrim prescription two days ago. I was prescribed two pills a day for 7 days. You can feel the effects within hours, and it’s not a great feeling if you have not had a sufficient meal. This medication does cause flu-like symptoms. I have only slept 2 hours total. This is hampering my studies and leaving me anxious. I have never had sleeping issues, but here I am, restless and very paranoid more than half of the night. The short amount of time that I do sleep, I have experienced awful nightmares, very vivid and almost terrifying to the point of not wanting to blink. This medication is definitely a 0 in my book."

"Day one: shortly after taking Bactrim, my stomach hurt, so I took it with yogurt. Vomited five times during the day. Second day: same. Couldn't keep any food down. Third day, called doc; she said, 'Oh, keep taking.' After the most horrible week of continuous vomiting and diarrhea, I quit. In two weeks, I lost 20 lbs. This was a year and a half ago. My stomach hasn't been okay since; doc says an ulcer! Don't take it!"

"I shared my IBS symptoms with my primary care, and she put me on Bactrim. This medication turned my intestines into an explosive, uncontrollable nightmare. I stopped taking this medication because I cannot even leave the house. I have to wear diapers 24/7, and now I’m waiting on another GI specialist appointment. This medication is nothing but poison. Obviously, it has something to do with allergies to sulfate drugs, but my PCP didn’t review my records well enough to know that I cannot take sulfate drugs. I keep good medical records for myself, however, it slipped by me as well."

"This medicine is rough. I was prescribed it for UTI. I had never read about it until now. I’m pretty sure my UTI is gone, thankfully. But I have felt absolutely awful the whole time. I thought it was due to the UTI, but after reading, I think this antibiotic is actually causing my symptoms. I’ve had severe fatigue, terrible headaches, and brain fog. I just feel so bad. I can’t stay out of bed for too long. I took my last pill yesterday, so hopefully these side effects go away soon now. In the future, I will ask for a different antibiotic just in case. I give this medication a 6 because it did seem to clear up my infection. But the side effects are terrible."

"I have to share my positive experience here for others. I switched to this medicine after a really bad experience with Macrobid, and I’m very glad I did. I have had zero side effects, and the pill is doing exactly what it’s supposed to! This was a refreshing change from the previous medicine, and I hope this helps someone prescribed this."

"I suffer from regular UTIs due to a chronic pelvic prolapse I can't get anyone to take seriously. Since having a hysterectomy and estrogen-suppression therapy for adjuvant therapy for cancer, the UTIs have worsened. Bactrim does have side effects, but since I can't take Macrobid, I'm stuck with this or Cipro. I'm starting to think I'm developing a resistant strain of infection, but the Bactrim seems to take care of it."

"So glad I visited and read all these reviews. I thought I was going mad! I'm halfway through a 5-day x 2 a day script and feel just awful - fevers, then freezing cold, aches, pains, and dull headache, and the nausea and reflux is like being pregnant (except I'm menopausal!). Hopefully, the UTI is ebbing and, like others, I can't wait to stop taking it in a couple of days."

"I took Bactrim and had the worst experience a few hours later. I began to itch all over my body, in my throat and ears, and then had horrible diarrhea. After that, I started to have itching and burning in the bottom of my mouth, tongue, and throat, followed by swelling in my lip and throat, with shortness of breath and feeling anxious. I took Benadryl and went to the ER but did not stay due to a long wait and drowsiness from Benadryl. Bactrim did ease and relieve my UTI pain quickly, but the side effects were even worse. I still have symptoms of the allergy - diarrhea and burning in my mouth. I would recommend trying something else. I’ve taken Bactrim before with no issues, but this time was horrific. All happened within the first few hours of the first dose."

"I have taken Bactrim for 3 days. Horrible reaction. Had to go to the hospital. Itch, rashes all over. Also felt like my throat was starting to close up. Had to take 4 pills at the hospital to try to clear up this reaction and to open my airway. I have to take 3 different pills for 8 days. Will have to see my doctor next week to get another medicine for the UTI. Now I know that I'm allergic to this."

"I've taken this to treat and to prevent urinary tract infections, and it has helped me with both. The only reason I gave it an 8 is because if I don't take it for a while, and then I take it, I get hives. The next day when I take it, I'm fine. It just happens the first time. When this happens, I have to take allergy medicine to help it go away."

"I have 1 more day left of this medicine. I was told to take 10 days. No way can handle it. I've been getting sweating, bad stomach pain, stomach upsets, dizziness, little appetite. To make it worse, I don't think it's working!"
