"After a couple of months of taking 40 mg of Crestor, my blood tests showed that my liver enzymes, Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) and Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST), had increased by a factor of 3 or 4. My gastroenterologist (the liver doc) monitored this for a few weeks and told me to stop taking Crestor. I'm now on Praluent, and it seems to work fine. My ALT and AST levels are back to normal. I don't feel foot cramps anymore. Maybe most importantly is that after 6 weeks of stopping Crestor, I feel mentally sharper. I didn't notice it as it happened, but I think Crestor affected my ability to think with clarity. A side effect of Crestor mentioned on Mayoclinic.org is 'mental fuzziness.' So the question for others to consider is, has Crestor or another statin affected your mental processes in the same way, and if so, would you be alert enough to notice it? Liver enzyme problems are rare, so maybe I'm a special case, but maybe mental fuzziness is an independent side effect to watch for."
