"I was already on the max dosages of my anxiety and major depression medications. Those helped a lot, but I felt awful much of the time anyway. The smallest things (a television show, a phrase, anything really) would trigger me into remembering times I felt humiliation or stress. I would talk to myself involuntarily, muttering over and over again that I was worthless and should die. It was like I would get caught in these ruts where trying to break away from the thought was impossible. My psychiatrist prescribed me risperidone, and it has made life SO MUCH BETTER. Now triggers just make me think, 'Huh. That would have sent me spiraling before...' and then I move on with my day. I'm a high-functioning person with a high-stakes, stressful job. I never would have believed an antipsychotic would work for me, but I'm deeply grateful for it. It's like it dulled the anxiety. I still feel a normal range of emotions throughout the day and can honestly say I've never felt so content overall."
