For Anesthesia "The oral surgeon sedated me (via IV) with propofol for an hour to extract four wisdom teeth. It was wonderful. I dosed off immediately, and the next thing I know, I wake up an hour later, and the procedure was over. No side effects whatsoever. Amazing medicine!"

For Anesthesia "Well, where do I begin? I gave it a 3 because I don't remember the nightmare at all! I was having an endoscopy done (basically, they send a camera down your throat). I had a reaction to propofol. I went from my incredibly nice, polite 33-year-old self into a combative patient from hell. They couldn't even do the procedure because I was flailing around and trying to grab the scope thing and hit anyone trying to get close to me, even after they gave me the max amount of the drug for my weight. After that, in recovery, I guess I hated my wife, yelled at her, cussed, and in the mix, I jumped off the bed and tried to run out of the room. It was bad enough to where a nurse asked her if she felt safe at home... I have never felt so bad in my life. Thank God my wife is a nurse and understood exactly what was going on because she had witnessed somebody else having a similar reaction. So no more propofol for me."

For Anesthesia "I'm 59 years old. What a great experience. I had an umbilical hernia repaired, and surgery lasted about 1 hour. I tried to catch myself going under, but it was like turning off a light switch, that fast. The only problem I had was I went #2 on the recovery gurney. The nurse said that was not unusual, but it was still embarrassing. Absolutely no other side effects. I had propofol two other times and never had a loss of bowel control. Anesthesia has come a long way, and I wouldn't hesitate to ask for this in the future."

For Anesthesia "I put off my first colonoscopy for 15 years (mostly due to the barbaric prep) until today, and I'm glad. I had an endoscopy 30 years ago with IV Valium, and it was a dreadful experience. I went into this with extreme apprehension, and the nurses kept telling me things have improved a lot. Wow! They were right! Propofol made it so much easier. I went to sleep, never had even a fuzzy hint of the procedure, and I was dressed and leaving 20 minutes after it was over. I'm so grateful."

For Anesthesia "Had never been hospitalized before and had to have a stent placed for a kidney stone. Don't even remember the feeling of falling asleep. Was on the OR table getting monitoring electrodes placed and then instantly in the recovery room and felt fine. Transported to the hospital room and was immediately able to drink a soda and eat a sandwich. No tired or sleepy feeling at all. Will request the same for an upcoming lithotripsy procedure."

For Anesthesia "Had a colonoscopy today, this is my 3rd one in 6 years. They gave propofol the first two times and had no problem, but this time after I woke up, I had a cough, congestion, a very sore throat, and a headache. Not sure what happened this time, not sure this is such a wonderful drug."

For Anesthesia "I was given propofol for the first time for a dental procedure yesterday. I did not experience the sneezing, congestion, and profuse mucous secretion that I have heard others have suffered with. I had another unfortunate spike this morning in blood pressure, my systolic (top #) exceeded 210...so off to urgent care. They were able to lower it. I was told that I had an atypical reaction to this drug propofol and to never have it administered again. The dentist pushed it too quickly and seemed to ignore my hypertension meds, which I mentioned 3 times. I was given an Rx for acetaminophen with codeine (made things worse) and was then told to use ibuprofen, which rendered my beta blocker and ACE inhibitors ineffective. Still feel groggy and forgetful. The propofol was like an unpleasant 'blackout' experience. It made my husband frightened when they hustled me out of the back door of the office. Never again."

For Anesthesia "I had Versed and propofol for a colonoscopy, and it was wonderful. I went out like a light and then almost instantly woke up afterward. I was not even sleepy the rest of the day and could have driven home (although it would not have been advisable). There was no pain upon injection and no soreness at the injection site. Propofol was used as I throw up if I take any kind of narcotics or synthetic narcotics."

For Anesthesia "I had my colonoscopy yesterday. I was out like a lamp. But I did experience some pain and woke up briefly during the procedure. I was quickly popped back to sleep. I remember the doctor apologizing and saying he would give me some more. Overall, not my worst experience in life. I woke up shouting too!! Was it a girl or boy?"

For Anesthesia "I had outpatient surgery last week and received propofol to induce general anesthesia. By the time the anesthetist removed the syringe from the IV tubing after injecting it, I already felt it taking effect and lost consciousness within a few seconds. Within the blink of an eye, I awoke in the recovery room with no ill effects. After reading some of the comments here, I worried that the propofol injection would be painful, but there was absolutely no pain - did not feel a thing."

For Anesthesia "I am a 32-year-old male and have been experiencing some pretty scary health issues. About 8 months ago, my hair started falling out in random patches, and I have lost pounds in the same time. I was scheduled for a colonoscopy and endoscopy. Yesterday, I checked in for that. I am a super nervous person. I have been diagnosed with severe panic disorder caused by anxiety. I have always feared general anesthesia as I have some sleep apnea issues. Could not believe how quickly I went out and then was in the recovery area with a juice box! No more worries about this drug again. Also had a runny nose and slight eye irritation. It surprises me that none of you would know that it's from the oxygen in your nose though? Obviously."

For Anesthesia "I receive propofol, Versed, and fentanyl for my procedures every 4-6 weeks. Have them put the IV in your arm, not your hand. It won't burn as much going in. Make sure the blood pressure cuff is not on the same arm as the IV. My experience: I go in, they inject it with the other meds, it burns for a few seconds, I feel tingly and floaty, I can hear the staff talking, but they sound diffuse and muffled. Then the procedure is over, and I'm in post-op. I have no nausea afterward. I'm discharged to home, sleep for a few hours, have a meal, watch movies with hubby, and chill for the day. I'm usually fine the next day. There have been a few times where my energy is zapped the next day, but those are few and far between. I never have any irritation of the mucosal membranes in my nose, mouth, or throat, but everyone is different in how they react. I have found that this cocktail of meds works best for me as I'm hard to sedate. Results may vary from individual to individual."

For Anesthesia "I was given propofol during my colonoscopy. When I woke up from anesthesia, I could not speak. My voice was almost completely gone. I had a terrible sore throat, and when I came home, I vomited and the sore throat continued. The next day, the pain in my throat became a little better. Today, it is more than 48 hours after my colonoscopy, I can hardly speak and still have a sore throat."

For Anesthesia "Propofol was used in my 1st colonoscopy yesterday. Had a slight headache, and the anesthesiologist said he had something to fix it. I joked, 'I bet you do,' as he injected Propofol into the far end of the IV. A minute later, I felt a warming sensation where the IV entered my arm and in an instant was completely out until I woke up an hour later in the recovery room. I had been dreading the colonoscopy because who wants to experience a 5-foot tube being shoved up their rear? But, I was out before the gastroenterologist even entered the room and remember nothing of the colonoscopy. With several prior surgeries, I hated the very long return to consciousness and control of my breathing. With this, I was fully alert within 5 minutes of waking."

For Anesthesia "Just had my 8th colonoscopy. Previously, I always had Vicodin, etc., sedation and woke up feeling great - hydrated, hungry, ready to get on with my day. No problems at all. Anticipating feeling fine after the procedure would get me through the prep! Unbeknownst to me, my doctor now has a nurse anesthetist administering propofol during the procedure. Woke up nauseated (despite IV Zofran), feeling dehydrated and somewhat disoriented. Ate very little, no appetite. Slept 5 hours and woke feeling like my face was on fire. Also headache, grogginess, no appetite. I will take my chances with my high-risk GI issues. I will NOT have another colonoscopy with this anesthetic. These are not truly serious problems, but they are 100% unnecessary."

For Anesthesia "Having had numerous bad experiences with general anesthesia, I was quite concerned about another with a tooth extraction. I was given Zofran prior to my procedure and then propofol as the anesthesia. This is awesome stuff. I felt the medicine begin to work within seconds of it being put into my vein. Before I knew it, I was walking to the recovery room with the help of a nurse. All I heard was 'she's drunk,' and 'drunk' I was, a pleasant, happy drunk, which lasted only minutes after the procedure. No burning upon administration and no nausea or vomiting. This stuff rocks!"

For Anesthesia "I was given Propofol during my first routine colonoscopy after turning 50. Wow, what a drug. I went out like a light, and the next thing I remember was waking up in recovery and feeling like I was coming out of the best, most relaxing sleep of my life. I can see why Michael Jackson got hooked on it. What I really liked was the quick recovery time. About two hours after the procedure, I felt fine, no drowsiness, nausea, or anything."

For Anesthesia "I recently had a colonoscopy, and when I woke up, I felt fine. I've had this drug with a previous colonoscopy and had no problems whatsoever. Several days after the procedure, my vision was blurred, and I was seeing double. My heart felt like it was racing, so I took my blood pressure, and it was elevated despite being on blood pressure meds. I also had three separate weird events happen that day that are hard to describe. I finally concluded that they were some type of hallucinations. My vision still isn't perfect, and it has been several weeks. Fortunately, the hallucinations have ceased. Not sure I would want to have this drug again."

For Anesthesia "Have been given Propofol for an EGD and an Endoscopic Ultrasound. When I had the EGD, I woke up and about an hour later started with sneezing fits like I had a very bad cold and watery, burning eyes. Lasted all day and most of the night, and was a little better by morning. Thought I just had got a cold. Yesterday, I had the EUS and the same thing happened, so now I know it has to be from the Propofol. Still sneezing this morning and a bit congested. Other than that, Propofol worked very well."

For Anesthesia "Had to go in for an upper endoscopy. Was super nervous, as this was my first procedure ever. They put me under with propofol, and then I woke up in recovery. Couldn't have gone any easier. Couldn't have been any simpler. Hope I can help some relax a little, it really wasn't anything to stress about. Wish I knew that 2 days ago. Lol. Best of luck to all."

For Anesthesia "Yesterday I had a conisation using propofol to make me sleep. It was the first time I did general anesthesia, and I was literally freaking out to get it first time because of the side effects, etc. Plus, I have asthma and a few allergies. Everything went super well, I fell asleep immediately, just felt one second of burning in my veins and slept. Woke up with no nausea, no headache, nothing."

For Anesthesia "He had his tonsils removed. The doctor did report that while in surgery, my son's body was jumping on the table. Seven days later, he started bleeding from his throat and was taken to the operating room for surgery. Once again, he was given propofol, then had to have a trach and was on propofol for three days while on a breathing machine. His father and I watched his body flopping like a fish out of water, it's the only way I can describe it. We have never seen anything like this before. They had to put padding all over his bed, it was that bad. He was moving so much he kept pulling out his IVs. When they took him off of the propofol three days later, the jumping of his body didn't stop, he was in the hospital for over a month. He can't walk."

For Anesthesia "I am 66 years old and have had a number of colonoscopies. The anesthesiologist has never used Propofol on me before. This was the first time that I have ever been totally knocked out for the procedure. My colonoscopy was last Monday, 9/11/17. I have had one day since then that I felt normal. My first reaction was arriving home totally out of this world and after making it to the bed, sleeping for the next 12 hours with my clothes on. When I woke up, I had a severe headache across my face. Needless to say, I did not go back to work until Wednesday. Wednesday, I felt normal until the end of the day when the headache emerged now in the crown of my head. Thursday and Friday, the headaches have continued. However, I am pretty much normal now."

For Anesthesia "No more Propofol for me! The procedure itself was fine, but since I was released, I am plagued with violent sneezing, burning eyes, constant dripping nose, and sharp pain in my left nostril. Internet search seems to reveal that it has to do with an extra safety precaution when using Propofol, with forced O2, etc., in the nostrils. Some people said this lasted for four days! I never had any problems with the light sedation, and wish I had been given the choice on whether or not I wanted deep sedation."
