Prochlorperazine "Got given a migraine cocktail which contained Compazine, for a severe migraine. Immediate panic attack and the lasting effects have been heart palpitations and extreme difficulty sleeping. Doctors had to give me a sedative and flush out the Compazine just so I could keep myself from damage due to sleep deprivation, but there's still traces of it in my system days later and my heart is still racing and I feel terribly anxious. I would recommend anyone getting a migraine cocktail to ask for one without Compazine. It could affect you very, very badly."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER a couple weeks ago with a severe migraine, I normally take Fiorcet for a preventative so I don't get them. It didn't work this time, and I ended up in the ER. They gave me Benadryl, Toradol, and the dreaded Compazine via IV. I've never had Compazine before in my life, and my experience was so awful. About 5 minutes after it was administered, I had a full-blown panic attack and thought I was going to die. I almost ripped my IV out and wanted to run out. I cried to my nurse how scared I was. The doctor ordered a big dose of Ativan and completely knocked me out. The next 24 hours after, I was in a complete haze and out of it. I would NEVER recommend this drug ever..."

Prochlorperazine for Anxiety "I had a severe migraine for 2 days. I was in so much pain I had blurred vision and nausea. Tried to take my prescribed PRN migraine medicine, but I threw up. The ER nurse gave me pain meds and fluids in my IV, as well as steroids. She came back and said the doctor had ordered Benadryl and Compazine for me. I asked what it was, I have always been given Zofran. She stated it would help with the nausea. She added the syringe of Compazine to my 1000 ml bag of saline. But she did not mix it, the bag was already hanging. I do believe I got a much larger amount administered at one time because of how she added it to the hanging bag. Within 5-10 minutes, I was panicking, couldn't sit still, but I was too dizzy to stand. I tried ripping the IV out, crying at my husband that we needed to leave. I couldn't explain why I was upset or answer his questions other than I needed to go/get out. The IV needed out. The nurse came and stopped the IV. Took 30 minutes for the panic, terror, and confusion to pass."

For Anxiety "Went to the ER with a migraine and what I thought was a pinched nerve. They gave me a cocktail of Benadryl, Toradol, and prochlorperazine. I immediately begged them to reverse it after experiencing sudden panic. I hadn’t had a panic attack in years, and this was the worst I can remember. I thought it was the end of me, and I thought about pulling my IV out, but tried my best to get it together. It was one of the worst experiences of my life, and I would never ever recommend."

Prochlorperazine for Psychosis "I was given Compazine with Toradol in the ER for migraine. Within minutes, I was very fidgety, I couldn’t sit still. I started to feel sheer panic, it was an awful experience. They told me it was common. I got home, felt like I was crawling out of my skin, couldn’t go to sleep, couldn’t sit still, and was convulsing. My heart rate went sky high and my blood pressure, and I generally have low blood pressure. I started crying and couldn’t hardly use my hands and arms, I could barely even walk across the house. My husband ended up taking me back to the ER, where they gave me a 2 mg shot of Ativan. It should’ve knocked me out since I barely take stuff like that. It just took the edge off enough to come home and go to sleep."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "This is not the first time this happened to me, this is just the first time I found out what the drug was called. In the last 10 years, I have been to the ER for a severe headache and was given something in my IV. Every single time, within seconds, I felt panicked. I have explained this to the ER personnel each time, but they gave it to me anyway. This time was the worst! I wanted to pull my skin off, scream, leave everything. I couldn't stay still, and my boyfriend watched in horror as I sobbed. He tried to rub my back as comfort, and I yelled at him to please stop touching me and talking (I felt so bad). I truly think I must be allergic to this medicine. When I begged her to reverse it, she said she couldn't but some more Benadryl, which may dull the effects. It didn't work. Now I am scared to death of any medications. It has been 3 months, and even now, when I think about it, I get panicked. So traumatizing."

Prochlorperazine for Anxiety "I’m so glad I’m not alone in this. I was given this drug for a migraine also. It was my first time ever having a panic attack. Now I’m suffering from them on a regular basis, and I believe it is because of this cocktail. It’s extremely hard for me to accept meds at the hospital anymore. I’m too terrified that I’ll have that reaction again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was admitted to the ER for a car wreck. I was given this drug for nausea and vomiting through an IV. I was released from the ER. Three minutes after being released, I had a panic attack. I went home, took a shower, and began to have really dark thoughts. My husband and I returned to the ER, where I was admitted. Well, it has been three months later, and I am still not back to my normal self. I have visited three doctors, and they have diagnosed me with anxiety, and I am currently taking Buspirone. I have never had a history of anxiety until I was given this medication. My life has been a living hell since the administration of this drug. I can't concentrate, have constant thoughts about death, and am always crying. I was living a happy and normal life before this. Please do not take this medication!! Any suggestions?"

For Anxiety "I went to the ER due to having recurring migraines for almost two weeks. After all my blood work came out well, they gave me the migraine cocktail, which included ketorolac (Toradol) 30 mg IV, diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 25 mg IV, followed by prochlorperazine (Compazine) 10 mg IV. I immediately felt an odd sensation in my throat, followed by panic. I tried sleeping it off to no avail. I had experienced this before with other drugs, so I knew it was going to wear off, but those first 10 hours were the worst I have ever felt. I would have preferred a million times a migraine over this experience. You feel as if you can’t control your thoughts or even your body, and you just want it to end. Please ask what you will be given and ask for the side effects. You can even look them up yourself before they administer it to you. Stay away from antipsychotics when you don’t need them!"

Prochlorperazine for Anxiety "Went to the ER for a headache that wouldn’t go away after a little over a week. Have never had migraines, but apparently that’s what the ER doctors thought I had because they gave me a migraine cocktail consisting of Compazine, diphenhydramine, and methylprednisolone. After getting the Compazine through an IV push, I genuinely thought I was having an allergic reaction. My throat felt tight, and my skin felt hot, and panic set in. But after the Benadryl kicked in, I fell asleep. I woke up with anxiety and realized the “allergic reaction” I had was actually a panic attack. I went for a CT scan afterward, and it was a scary experience being in that tight space with all the residual anxiety I had. The next day, I had insomnia and experienced depersonalization for the first time in years. Very scary, lots of blurred vision and generalized anxiety. Forty-eight hours later, and along with the anxiety, a weird side effect of excessive drooling and saliva. Great, I know. Along with a blank stare."

Prochlorperazine for Anxiety "About a year ago or so, I went to the hospital for a migraine. I've gone fairly often for migraines. Normally, it's Benadryl, and some fluids (from dehydration), and then I'm good to go. This time they gave me Benadryl and Compazine. Almost immediately, I started panicking. My heart was racing, it was hard to breathe, and I literally thought I was dying. I was in the process of trying to text my loved ones, telling them I loved them. Thanks to COVID, my husband wasn't allowed in, however, my attack had gotten so bad I begged and pleaded for them to let him in with me. The nurse who administered the medicine didn't care that I was freaking out, in fact, all she had said was, 'Well, your headache is gone now, right? Now you have a new problem.' If I could sue the hospital for this and win, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I thought I was dying, and the nurse just shrugged and said, 'Oh well, now you have a new problem.' A year later, and I'm still not normal. Panic attacks are worse and often."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Goodness me, I went for extreme abdominal pain and nausea with vomiting and was given this since Zofran did not work at home prior to my arrival. I was already somewhat concerned as my partner had been given Compazine as part of a migraine cocktail and had the worst panic attack of their life. They administered it to them right into the arm; however, mine was being put through the IV saline bag as a slow drip, so I wasn't that worried; I figured it would infuse slow enough it wouldn't bother me. Boy, was I wrong. About 5-10 minutes later, I was so warm and overheated, my hands went numb as I began to panic for what seemed like no reason. I was full-on shaking and hyperventilating, as well as feeling trapped and somehow more nauseated than before. The initial panic lasted maybe 15 minutes, but I felt on edge for the rest of the day and like I was still fighting off a panic attack."

For Anxiety "Took this over a month ago, and it caused still having high anxiety and panic attacks. When does it end? Never ever had them before they gave me this at the ER. Do not let them give it to you. Told them I had to go RIGHT NOW, was so anxious and my heart rate was up, couldn't breathe. Extreme restlessness. Still bad for me at night. Went to ER, they gave Benadryl and said it just had to go away. Please listen to the reviews, this is the worst medicine ever."

"Currently on this medication, prochlorperazine, right now for vertigo. Took it yesterday and had insomnia mixed with panic attacks until I eventually slept. Woke up, took it this morning (about 3 hours ago). I have the worst anxiety I have suffered for a long time, and I have generalized anxiety disorder. This took me to a new level. Hence, reading this page looking for answers. AVOID THIS HORRIBLE MED."

For Anxiety "I was given this medication for nausea during a possible ovary twisting. I already suffer from complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), and after taking this medication, I started feeling anxious and had a psychosis episode. I spent three days in that episode and was uncontrollably shaking, sweating profusely, hallucinating, panicking, and couldn't eat. I couldn’t think, and I couldn’t verbally communicate what I needed and how to help me, it was just awful."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I'm having the same experience as all the other reviewers. I was in the hospital for COVID and had a headache and vomiting. It took care of those things but gave me a panic attack and high blood pressure. The doctor told me to take Benadryl when I got home, after 75 mg, it has helped but still hasn't totally countered the effects. I've had Compazine before, but it wasn't a generic brand. Anyway, I won't be taking this anymore."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I had a migraine, had this through an IV with Benadryl, Toradol, and obviously Compazine. Within 5 minutes, I had nausea. I had a panic attack and could barely breathe. I tried to take the BP cuff off. I had anxiety and felt like I couldn't fall asleep. I fell asleep in the hospital bed after 15 minutes of pure torture and slept for 45 minutes. I woke up, barely able to breathe. I got discharged and went back home. The headache was gone, but I felt like I could barely breathe. Some depression was triggered, I wanted to die. I couldn't even take a nap, even after 45 minutes. I couldn't do anything, reading a book was awful, browsing the internet was awful. Side effects wore off after 48 hours. I had the exact same experience next time I had horrible migraines. I wish I just had the migraines."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for an ear problem, and they diagnosed me with a migraine, which I kept telling them I didn’t have, but they didn’t listen. They gave me this drug with some Benadryl, and I will never take it again. I already had anxiety, and I was finally not having the panic attacks anymore, and after this drug, my anxiety came back. I just wanted out of the hospital. I felt like a zombie. If I got up to walk, the effort it took to walk was the worst feeling ever. It’s been 18 hours since I took it, and I’m still not sitting still or breathing correctly. After I left the hospital, I could not sleep. I kept fighting it. My heart rate was skyrocketed for over 6 hours, and I thought I was just gonna collapse anytime. I hope this wears off soon because I can’t keep feeling like this."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for uncontrollable vomiting and for nausea and severe pain in my stomach, and both times they gave me Compazine, and both times, right away, I felt my skin crawling, and I was shaky and couldn’t sit still. I literally felt like I was suffocating, my chest felt so tight, and I felt an uncomfortable panic attack. I couldn’t relax whatsoever. I could feel my heart racing. I felt like I was going to honestly die. They gave me 2 doses of Benadryl with it, but it did nothing. Whatever, never will I take this again."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I went to the ER for a migraine, and they gave me this for nausea. Worst experience of my life! I immediately started feeling panicked and restless, and my heart rate shot up to 130 even though I was lying down. I ripped out my IV, got up, and paced around, convinced that I would feel like that forever. The nurse came in and told me it was normal and just wrapped me tight in warm blankets so I couldn't move. I couldn't stop shaking and crying until it went away a couple of hours later. Even the Benadryl they gave me as an antidote didn't work. I was wrong in thinking this was a rare side effect! Stay away if you can!"

For Nausea/Vomiting "My mom had gone to the ER for extreme nausea related to her Crohn's Disease. Within seconds of her receiving this drug, she began to go in a panic, describing it as 'feeling like crawling out of her own skin.' She was in so much distress and begged for something to make the feeling go away. It took about 3 hours for her to finally get some rest. We are currently fighting even worse episodes that involve her showing signs of, and I hate to say it, schizophrenia. She becomes very paranoid, starts having uncontrolled muscle movements, and cannot seem to breathe. We don't know what to do at this point, and her doctors don't seem to believe us. It has been about a month since this began. Does anyone have any recommendations or treatments?!"

For Anxiety "I had three days of severe dizziness and had to phone 000 for an ambulance. The doctor diagnosed vertigo, and I was given an injection of prochlorperazine. Straight away, I had sweats, panic, tremors, and just couldn't wait to get home. I was given a prescription for nine days' tablets of the same, which I took as it was getting rid of the vertigo. My G.P. then gave me a month more. It is only now on reflection that I realize I had none of these awful effects before the vertigo. I have been left with internal tremors, which my doctors have prescribed a low dose of a blood pressure tablet, which would you believe has a side effect of dizziness! I won't be taking those! One tip: I have found that a drink of wine stops the fluttering and makes me calm... not to excess, but I'll rely on that and hope it will subside over time. I'll be careful never to be given prochlorperazine ever again. Reading these reviews has reassured me that it was that terrible drug."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given prochlorperazine for a 3-day-long intractable migraine and associated nausea in the ER, and it was the worst thing that I've ever experienced. The Dr. had ordered a CT because of the severity of my symptoms, and I was waiting to go have it done when they gave me the migraine cocktail containing Compazine, and my reaction to it was that I was so panicked and convinced that I was going to die that I ripped out my IV and left the ER. Thankfully, I have a regular Dr. whom I told about this, and he noted in my charts that I'm not to be given it again. Not only does it make me feel like I'm dying, it doesn't do a darn thing for my nausea."
