For Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER for vomiting. They gave me this drug. It made me feel suicidal and more anxious than I ever have. I ended up having to leave AMA because they weren’t listening to me. I hope it wears off completely, quickly. I’m terrified it won’t. Please don’t let them give you this medication. It is awful!!!"

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this through an IV in the ER. I had terrible nausea, and Zofran didn't touch it. Even though Compazine did take my nausea away, it left me incredibly groggy yet restless. I spent the entire rest of the day in a haze. I've never abused drugs, but I would imagine this is how you would feel when coming off of some sort of high, yet it lasts all day long. I kept feeling angry and anxious as well. I would much rather have nausea and will never take this medicine again!"

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I feel for all of you very much. All of those bad experiences, I also had. Plus, doctors and nurses don't seem to care, at least most don't. About 13 years ago, I went to the ER for nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. I didn't feel well when I went in. As soon as they put Compazine in my IV, I felt terrible panic, restlessness, anxiety. I could not sit, lay down, or stay in one place for more than 5 minutes. I pulled my IV out and started running to my friend. I thought maybe I had a stroke. I didn't know. My friend tried to talk to the doctors. I was outside, I couldn't do anything to feel any better. I waited to die. I was afraid I would hurt someone. I was one of the top weightlifters in the world. I started banging my head as hard as I could on the concrete wall. Then I went back in the hospital bleeding. I thought then the doctors would do something to help me. They called the police, my friend got me home. I was worse. I took some Xanax. I still have anxiety from that experience."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I was on this thread a while ago to see if people had a similar experience, and I’m just now deciding to post because I remember how horrible it was. I went into the ER with pancreatitis, and instead of promethazine, they decided to do Compazine. I wish I could go back in time and stop the nurse from administering it. They pushed it with IV dilaudid, so it took a bit for me to feel the negative effects, but long story short: crippling anxiety, sweats, uncontrolled movement (dystonia), insomnia, the list goes on. Didn’t sleep for 56 hours, and the only thing that even helped a little was walking. I walked that entire time. This medication is the worst."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given this Compazine last night for a migraine. I knew I shouldn’t have taken it because I’ve had a bad experience with Reglan. The doctor assured me that it was far less likely to happen, and I even asked the nurse to push it in slowly. It took a few minutes to kick in, but once it did, I knew the feeling all too well. Extreme anxiety and just an uncontrollable feeling of panic. You want to move around because you can’t think, and you want to escape, but then you’re afraid to move. They offered to give me Benadryl, but I was just afraid at that point. It eventually mellowed out slightly, and they discharged me. I went home and had an issue sleeping because I couldn’t sit still or stay asleep long. Next day, it’s been a little over 12 hours, and I still feel restless and so tired. I’ve tried to sleep, but I feel like I have to keep moving. I wasn’t even able to go to work. I would have preferred having my migraine. ONLY GET Toradol AND Zofran OR Benadryl for your migraines."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Just like all the others. I was given this plus Benadryl in the ER to treat headache and nausea. I soon wanted to claw out the IV, and I had this horrible sense of dread, like I was going to die. I couldn't think of anything but wanting to get out of that room. After getting home, I was terrified to be alone. Finally slept it off mostly after several hours. Still feel off and jumpy 12 hours later. Never taking this medication ever again."

"6 years ago, I suffered from labyrinthitis and was given prochlorperazine tablets 3 x daily. I couldn't sleep, suffered severe anxiety attacks, severe mood swings, but they continued to prescribe it. 6 months later, after seeing an ear specialist, I found out that these pills are so damaging and was told that the withdrawal of these tablets is going to be worse than coming off heroin. 6 years later, I am still suffering from panic and anxiety attacks. Do not take these pills, they change the chemicals in your brain and will cause permanent problems."

Prochlorperazine for Anxiety "I ate some edibles that apparently had 300 mg of THC (yeah, terrible). I had a bad trip from it and suffered from an anxiety attack. The rest of that week, I was sleep-deprived and had tremors, also, my head was hurting, but it felt like it was in my brain. I went to the ER, and they gave me the headache cocktail with Topamax and Benadryl. That entire day was bad, I wanted to scratch through a wall and scratch off my face. I couldn't sit still without feeling all kinds of weird nerves throughout my body. It has been 3 days, and I feel like myself somewhat now. However, I have this weird tingling sensation in my brain whenever I fall asleep or wake up. 1/10 would not recommend. And yes, I also suffered anxiety. I couldn't drive for the first 3 days without being scared, nor could I sleep alone or even be alone."

For Nausea/Vomiting "This drug is hell!!!! I went to the ER because I was extremely dehydrated and feeling nausea and had a migraine. I had the craziest anxiety of my life that lasted for 24 hours, and the worst part is that I'm prone to having anxiety panics from this moment. It took me a few years to be able to talk about it without having body memory of how horrible it was. Please don't take this."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Went to the ER for nausea and dizziness. They gave me this horrible medication in my IV. Once it hit my bloodstream, I went straight into panic mode. I wanted to rip the IV out and run home. I had anxiety and panic attacks since they gave me this horrible medication. It needs to be taken off the market. Doctors need to warn patients about the side effects before giving it to them. Just horrible."

For Anxiety "I was given this medication, prochlorperazine, yesterday afternoon through IV. Supposedly for nausea I didn't even have. About 10 minutes after the drip finished, I started getting anxious, got home, couldn't sleep as my legs were so stiff, and I felt so restless. Now all this morning, I'm all jittery, and my head feels awful like it's working overtime, and my anxiety is unbearable. Anyone know how to flush this out of my system because I can't cope, and I'm struggling to get my kids organized, and luckily I took the rest of the week off work because I would not cope."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "Given Compazine with Benadryl and wow, the Compazine caused a bad reaction! Felt like a 100+ worst nightmare from anxiety! Nurse seemed uncaring and didn't know this causes those side effects! This will go on my med list and I will stick with my Zofran. Still feel bad some 12+ hours later. Never again. I can relate to the others!"

Prochlorperazine for Anxiety "Couldn't stop a migraine due to spinal stenosis. Went into ER and my blood pressure was super high. They gave me Compazine to help stop nausea and vomiting. It felt like I wanted to jump out of bed. Lasts a few days where it's just a really bad anxious feeling I had never had before. I never want to experience that again."

Prochlorperazine for Anxiety "Please beware! All bad reviews about Compazine are true. I went to the ER for dizziness and chest pains. The doctor said she was going to give me something for anxiety. The nurse came in and gave me Compazine through IV. She forced it really fast so she could send me for an X-ray on my chest. She left, and within a matter of seconds, I felt a wave of heat in my body. I started taking the IV out and the blood pressure cuff off. I ran to the restroom looking for a window to jump out of. I started yelling, calling the nurse and asking, 'What did you do to me?' I have never felt like this before in my life. She called the doctor, they gave me Benadryl to try to reverse it. Two weeks later, I was still experiencing extreme anxiety and had never had anxiety before."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was given Compazine during inpatient chemo treatment in 1999 (as a cheaper anti-nausea med, as I was on Medicaid). The doctors said it 'may' cause agitation/work poorly for younger people (I was 25 at the time). The agitation and horrible feelings were immediate. It got so bad I ended up just twitching, crying, and moaning into my pillow. My skin was crawling, I was flooded with anxiety/panic. I could not lay/sit still. The next chemo treatment was the same, so I never asked for/took it again. I'd rather have gone without anti-nausea meds than go through that again. I later found one of the night doctors who was sympathetic, and I got samples of the good (modern) anti-nausea meds. No akathisia at all."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I was prescribed this drug to take along with Relpax for my severe migraines, which are often accompanied by terrible nausea. Within an hour after taking it, I began feeling horribly anxious, afraid, panicked, and with a sense of impending doom. I couldn't sit still, and yet I felt groggy. I felt like I wanted to crawl out of my skin and worried that I was losing my mind. Sleeping was impossible, yet being awake was miserable. I couldn't concentrate, couldn't work, and distract myself. A doctor finally prescribed an anti-anxiety medication, Klonopin, which eased the symptoms. But I felt this way for over 48 hours."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I have cystic fibrosis, so I am constantly in and out of the hospital and have been through various drugs throughout my life. I struggle with severe anxiety, panic attacks, and OCD. I was admitted for routine IV antibiotics, and the meds made me extremely nauseous. I was given Zofran, and that didn't help, so they decided to give me Compazine. The nurse injected this drug into my port, and the effects were instant. I felt anxious, jumpy, and thought I was going crazy. My room was so small, which made it worse, and I was pacing around, ready to pass out. I thought I was going to have to be admitted into the psych ward. I rang my nurse and let her know what was happening, and she had me lay down, my legs started shaking uncontrollably. She got the doctor, and that's where my legs started locking in place and I couldn't move them. They pumped me full of Benadryl and Ativan to calm me down. It took a good 24 hours to feel relief, this induced severe PTSD from this experience."

Prochlorperazine for Anxiety "I went to the ER due to having a headache, and it caused my anxiety to shoot through the roof, my speech garbled, and my arm felt numb. I have severe health anxiety. Got to the hospital and they decided it was giving me a migraine cocktail. The cocktail included Compazine. I have never in my life felt the way I have since taking this drug. I wanted to run away, and that was on Sunday. It's Thursday, and my anxiety is still through the roof. I would have much rather dealt with the headache and all the other symptoms than to feel like I do right now. This drug should never be given to anyone ever."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I took prochlorperazine medication for seasickness and had no idea about the side effects. Since I have had this medication, I have felt the worst anxiety, fearful, tired, depressed, feeling like I want to just be knocked out and make it all go away. Having severe nightmares followed by shaking, panic attacks, and terrible thoughts. I really wish I had read these reviews first. I took some temazepam last night to relax, but it's not really doing anything. If anyone could make any suggestions that could help, I would appreciate it so much."

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "I was given the migraine cocktail (Benadryl, Compazine, Toradol) in the ER after suffering off and on for weeks from headaches. After my MRI came back clear is when they gave me this through IV. I felt like I was going to jump right out of my skin, it was awful. I'm lucky that this feeling lasted only 15 minutes, it worked, but to me, that anxiety it caused is not worth it! If I have to ever be seen for that again, I will be steering clear of that mixture!"

Prochlorperazine for Nausea/Vomiting "This did take away my nausea, but it also made my heart pound and made me extremely irritable and anxious for about 20 hours. Even with a Benadryl, I couldn’t sit still for about 10 hours after taking it, and I had lingering anxiety 10 hours after that. I had a similar experience with Reglan, and the ER doc I saw said they are similar drugs. I would say if Reglan gives you a reaction, there’s a good chance this will too. It did its job, but I would have taken the nausea over the anxiety any day."

Prochlorperazine for Anxiety "I remember thinking I wanted my migraines back because of how this med made me feel. I still feel horrible and jittery and panicky. When they gave it to me, I wanted to run, and I couldn’t sit still, and I was freaking out. I do not recommend this at all, ever."
