Prochlorperazine "I went to the ER Saturday night after a terrible migraine. The pain was so bad, nothing was helping. Vomiting too. They finally admitted me and gave me Toradol, Compazine, both through an IV. Within 10 minutes, I felt like I was panicking. I couldn't sit still. I just wanted to run out. I had to get a CT scan, and I just wanted to run out! It was so scary and so weird, I thought it was just me, but after reading the side effects, I see how 'normal' and frequent it is. Once I was on my way home, anxiety persisted. I took a quick shower and went to sleep. Thankfully, I was able to fall asleep because I was so drowsy, but I basically slept the entire next day. Anxiety lasted about 24 hours. They gave me a prescription for this medication, I will NEVER take this medicine as long as I live. It was TERRIBLE!"

"I was given this for a really bad headache - migraine. This med is going on my allergy list, and I'm NOT going to take it ever again! I consider it poison! I already have anxiety, and I was given med through IV in the ER along with Benadryl. I was told it could make me jittery, but the Benadryl counteracts that. Bull! All of a sudden, I couldn't think, I couldn't talk right, I was so restless but so tired and sleepy at the same time. I was so hot! They gave me a clipboard to fan myself. I wasn't comfortable sitting. I wasn't comfortable standing. I too wanted to rip my IV out and run away. It was one of the WORST experiences of my life! They gave me more Benadryl, and that did help, but I didn't feel like myself that night and felt agitated, dizzy, and headache the next day. I got better, thank God!"

"For several months, suffered debilitating migraines daily. My tongue went numb on the right side, arms going dead at night. I suffer from Chiari malformation and a brain cyst, multiple issues. Ok, received 5 mg of this today, only took 5 mg, and my brain pressure relieved within 1 hour. It's the first time in months I've felt at ease. Doctors won't accept I have issues with Chiari and the brain cyst and are refusing a brain scan follow-up. I have the feeling of my brain dropping 50 times an hour, mainly at night. I'm really hoping the brain drop feeling relieves tonight while sleeping. I've had a good 6 hours, first time in nearly 16 months! A blessing is this for me..."

"For me, prochlorperazine is an absolute lifesaver. I have severe anxiety due to emetophobia (fear of vomiting). I'll have bad days where I get so nauseous and so worked up that I end up having debilitating panic attacks. As soon as I feel one coming on, I'll take a single tablet and within 15-30 minutes the nausea is gone and I'm totally calm. I'll then be fine for the rest of the day so I can actually get on with stuff. The only 'adverse' effects I notice are it makes me feel a bit dopey, dry mouth, and then eventually really hungry... which is great because the anxiety usually stops me from being able to eat! 100% recommend giving this a try for acute anxiety/nausea."

Prochlorperazine "I had a severe migraine for 2 days. I was in so much pain I had blurred vision and nausea. Tried to take my prescribed PRN migraine medicine, but I threw up. The ER nurse gave me pain meds and fluids in my IV, as well as steroids. She came back and said the doctor had ordered Benadryl and Compazine for me. I asked what it was, I have always been given Zofran. She stated it would help with the nausea. She added the syringe of Compazine to my 1000 ml bag of saline. But she did not mix it, the bag was already hanging. I do believe I got a much larger amount administered at one time because of how she added it to the hanging bag. Within 5-10 minutes, I was panicking, couldn't sit still, but I was too dizzy to stand. I tried ripping the IV out, crying at my husband that we needed to leave. I couldn't explain why I was upset or answer his questions other than I needed to go/get out. The IV needed out. The nurse came and stopped the IV. Took 30 minutes for the panic, terror, and confusion to pass."

"Went to the ER with a migraine and what I thought was a pinched nerve. They gave me a cocktail of Benadryl, Toradol, and prochlorperazine. I immediately begged them to reverse it after experiencing sudden panic. I hadn’t had a panic attack in years, and this was the worst I can remember. I thought it was the end of me, and I thought about pulling my IV out, but tried my best to get it together. It was one of the worst experiences of my life, and I would never ever recommend."

Prochlorperazine "I’m so glad I’m not alone in this. I was given this drug for a migraine also. It was my first time ever having a panic attack. Now I’m suffering from them on a regular basis, and I believe it is because of this cocktail. It’s extremely hard for me to accept meds at the hospital anymore. I’m too terrified that I’ll have that reaction again."

Prochlorperazine "I went to the doctor's May 23rd, 2022. I was seen at the ER at the hospital. I went for head pressure, and I told them I haven’t been feeling like myself lately. So they took me back and gave me this, and they told me they were giving me a little Benadryl to take the pressure away from my head. But the whole time they gave me Benadryl and Compazine without me knowing. So 10 minutes later, the meds started kicking in really fast. I got really hot and started panicking, ready to jump out of the bed and run away. The nurse came in laughing, asking me if I felt like my skin was leaving my body. I told her yes and started crying. She was like, 'You're fine,' and put a cold napkin around my neck. I still was panicking, ready to pull my hair out. Hours later, when it was time for me to leave, I told them I felt like I was going to open the car door on the way home. So they kept me a little longer and gave me another IV to help drain the meds out of me. I still was shaky and anxious, and I couldn’t stop moving. I felt like I was losing my mind."

Prochlorperazine "I have been to the ER twice for severe nausea and vomiting due to anxiety, and the first time, they administered Compazine with Ativan, and it worked wonders. The second time, they had just administered Compazine, and I noticed it really does help with nausea, along with anxiety-induced nausea, but without the side effects of benzos. After that, I asked my PCP if I could have a prescription for the 10 mg tablets, and now I take it either if I’m very nauseous and Zofran doesn’t work (I don’t want to build a tolerance to Comp.) or if I’m feeling down with anxiety due to MDD because it helps lift my mood and makes my heart feel at ease, especially for the next day. I don’t recommend taking Compazine if you have never taken an antidepressant or if you don’t have anxiety/depression due to the nasty mental effects an antipsychotic can have."

Prochlorperazine "I went into the emergency center for a migraine. I have an anxiety disorder and bipolar disorder. I was given this in an IV and they turned off the light once they left. Within five minutes, I had this horrible rush of anxiety. I immediately sat up, ran to the mirror, and started to breathe. For some reason, when I watch myself doing the breathing exercises for anxiety, it helps me believe that it's a phase and it will pass. After 10 reps, I took the IV off of the stand and ran into the bathroom. Then I ran down the hallway and told someone to get this IV out of my arm right now. The nurse asked me to go to my room. I started to rip out the IV and she immediately stopped me and came to remove it herself. I had to go outside for 20 minutes to remove my mask so that I wouldn't hyperventilate. I was curious about this experience and I wound up here. Needless to say, I'm not alone. I would never, ever get this drug again!"

Prochlorperazine "This is by far the worst drug ever! I was given this drug in the ER for a headache I had for over a week due to high blood pressure. It’s been over 36 hours since they gave me Compazine and Benadryl, and I’m still not 100% normal. I’m just ready to get back to my normal routine with my family. This drug sucks."

Prochlorperazine "DO NOT TAKE!!!! I was actually given this for chest pain. I could have clawed my own skin off and was so annoyed by everyone. Complete psychosis. It took 48 hours to wear off and about ten doses of Benadryl. Absolute worst experience ever. Dr. acted like it was no big deal and the nurse said most everyone has a bad reaction to it. I ask why would anyone give this drug. Certainly didn’t help my chest pain. Dumb, dumb, dumb."

"I went to the ER due to having recurring migraines for almost two weeks. After all my blood work came out well, they gave me the migraine cocktail, which included ketorolac (Toradol) 30 mg IV, diphenhydramine (Benadryl) 25 mg IV, followed by prochlorperazine (Compazine) 10 mg IV. I immediately felt an odd sensation in my throat, followed by panic. I tried sleeping it off to no avail. I had experienced this before with other drugs, so I knew it was going to wear off, but those first 10 hours were the worst I have ever felt. I would have preferred a million times a migraine over this experience. You feel as if you can’t control your thoughts or even your body, and you just want it to end. Please ask what you will be given and ask for the side effects. You can even look them up yourself before they administer it to you. Stay away from antipsychotics when you don’t need them!"

"Man, it's been 3 months since having this medicine in my system, and just the thought of the 4-day withdrawal is giving me anxiety. I couldn't understand why I couldn't sit, sleep, eat, etc., after the first 12 hours. Felt like an out-of-body experience. I was in a McDonald's drive-thru and panicked. Had to ask cars to reverse to let me out. It's like sheer doom would hit you from out of nowhere. Mind you, this was given as treatment for severe migraine and one week before a 7-day cruise. 24 hours later, I was back in urgent care with slurred speech. Thought I was having a stroke. Delayed allergic reaction that had to be reversed with Benadryl via IV. I swear, I hope to NEVER come across another medication with side effects like Compazine. I know to ask before I'm given anything if the medication is like Compazine. Run from it. The anxiety alone is so bad!!! If you do take it, DON'T BE ALONE!!! I suffered by myself."

Prochlorperazine "Got it for the first time ever, went in for a headache that was persistent. Have had panic and anxiety attacks before, so I knew what was happening. 15 minutes in, I was going crazy. Akathisia was what took the longest to go away. I read Compazine takes 2-4 days to get out of the body if taken through IV. So don’t worry, y’all, you will get better, but give it the minimum days. Benadryl does help as it’s a counter for it. Mother is allergic to it as well as Reglan. They say it’s not hereditary, but I believe it is. Careful with these headache drugs! Even though the headache did go away! 24 hours have passed since taking it, and I'm slowly coming off the side effects."

Prochlorperazine "Went to the ER for a headache that wouldn’t go away after a little over a week. Have never had migraines, but apparently that’s what the ER doctors thought I had because they gave me a migraine cocktail consisting of Compazine, diphenhydramine, and methylprednisolone. After getting the Compazine through an IV push, I genuinely thought I was having an allergic reaction. My throat felt tight, and my skin felt hot, and panic set in. But after the Benadryl kicked in, I fell asleep. I woke up with anxiety and realized the “allergic reaction” I had was actually a panic attack. I went for a CT scan afterward, and it was a scary experience being in that tight space with all the residual anxiety I had. The next day, I had insomnia and experienced depersonalization for the first time in years. Very scary, lots of blurred vision and generalized anxiety. Forty-eight hours later, and along with the anxiety, a weird side effect of excessive drooling and saliva. Great, I know. Along with a blank stare."

Prochlorperazine "About a year ago or so, I went to the hospital for a migraine. I've gone fairly often for migraines. Normally, it's Benadryl, and some fluids (from dehydration), and then I'm good to go. This time they gave me Benadryl and Compazine. Almost immediately, I started panicking. My heart was racing, it was hard to breathe, and I literally thought I was dying. I was in the process of trying to text my loved ones, telling them I loved them. Thanks to COVID, my husband wasn't allowed in, however, my attack had gotten so bad I begged and pleaded for them to let him in with me. The nurse who administered the medicine didn't care that I was freaking out, in fact, all she had said was, 'Well, your headache is gone now, right? Now you have a new problem.' If I could sue the hospital for this and win, I'd do it in a heartbeat. I thought I was dying, and the nurse just shrugged and said, 'Oh well, now you have a new problem.' A year later, and I'm still not normal. Panic attacks are worse and often."

"Took this over a month ago, and it caused still having high anxiety and panic attacks. When does it end? Never ever had them before they gave me this at the ER. Do not let them give it to you. Told them I had to go RIGHT NOW, was so anxious and my heart rate was up, couldn't breathe. Extreme restlessness. Still bad for me at night. Went to ER, they gave Benadryl and said it just had to go away. Please listen to the reviews, this is the worst medicine ever."

Prochlorperazine "These experiences listed for this drug are not exaggerated. Had some numbness and headache issues that caused me to visit the ER. Was given a Benadryl, Toradol, and Compazine cocktail for the headaches. After the Toradol wore off, I had the most horrid anxiety. My body would not let me calm down, and my mind wanted to calm down. It was a constant struggle for more than a day to get back to normal. I wanted to rip the IV out and run out of the hospital while I was waiting to get an MRI. It was hands down the worst experience of my life."

"Off-label use: abortive therapy for migraine. Not for nausea, but for the headache itself. It works! Better than Esgic/Fioricet, better than two Excedrin. Using Compazine 10 mg tabs. It does stop the H/A from getting worse, 1 tid, no more than three days a week. Might be worth looking into. HypnoPhD"

Prochlorperazine "I’m 7 months pregnant. I went to the ER for severe diarrhea. They initially gave me an IV so I wouldn’t be dehydrated. After being in the ER for a while, I had a headache, so they gave me Benadryl and Compazine. I immediately started to feel like I couldn’t breathe, so I called the nurse. I felt horrible. I was trying to get out of the bed. I kept screaming, 'I can’t breathe.' The other nurses came in and gave me Ativan. It took about 30 minutes to work. My fiancé came and picked me up. I had to leave my car at the hospital. I went home and couldn’t rest. It still felt like I was high on the meds. I’ll never take it again."

"I was given this medication for nausea during a possible ovary twisting. I already suffer from complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD), and after taking this medication, I started feeling anxious and had a psychosis episode. I spent three days in that episode and was uncontrollably shaking, sweating profusely, hallucinating, panicking, and couldn't eat. I couldn’t think, and I couldn’t verbally communicate what I needed and how to help me, it was just awful."

"I was sent to the emergency room due to an ECG coming up with some anomalies, and my doctor wanted to be cautious and do some investigations. I had mentioned I had a feeling of vertigo and was prescribed prochlorperazine, which was given to me through an IV. I’m 19 years old and was naive enough to think the doctor knew how to help. About 30 minutes in, I started to feel really agitated and started crying, I wanted to rip my IV out! My partner had to keep telling me just 45 more minutes, just 15 more minutes to let me know it was nearly over. I was shaking everywhere, I had no control over my own body. We had done some research and found out he had given me a psychotic drug?! It’s been 16 hours since having it, and I’m still struggling with ‘jitters’ or shaking. My heart rate has calmed down, but my nausea is still there. Vomiting was also accompanied by my reaction. I’ve been looking for how long these side effects will last, hopefully until tomorrow. PLEASE BE AWARE!!"

"Given this by GP for nausea after getting sinusitis. Helped initially with feeling sick. However, after day three, became very tired. Forgot to take a dose and developed serious anxiety attacks. My muscles were aching, my vision was blurred, and had to take a few days off work. Revisited GP, who says I need to wean myself off it. Be very careful with dosage with this one. Maybe consider seasickness tablets as opposed to this drug. It's been a very uncomfortable couple of days."

Prochlorperazine "I went to the ER for a post-lumbar puncture headache and was given a Toradol, Benadryl, and Compazine cocktail. As soon as the Compazine went in, I immediately started shaking and couldn’t stay still. It’s like I was fighting myself inside. I couldn’t figure out why I was so jittery. I kept making excuses to get up and move. I wanted to take my IV out and leave. I’m home after 5 hours, and I still can’t rest. I’ve had both Benadryl and Toradol plenty of times, so I knew it wasn’t those. I just took 2 Benadryl to try and calm down enough to sleep. Man, I will never try that again. I had no idea it would do that! I regret every second of it! I’d rather have the headache and nausea. Bad drug!"
