Penicillin v potassium for Bacterial Infection "I don't like the Penicillin VK pill. I was taking this for swollen gums and a bad tooth, and it made me depressed, feverish, weak, and caused a slight headache. It did not seem to work much on my gums. As soon as I stopped taking it, I felt better."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed penicillin antibiotic after having a root canal. I was taking 3 pills of 500 mg a day for about 10 days. After about 5 days of taking it, I started having palpitations, night sweats, and cold feet. This drug is not for me."

For Strep Throat "I had strep throat. I began a 10-day course of penicillin. I began to experience all the major side effects, including diarrhea, heart palpitations, low pulse, fatigue, and anxiety, just to name a few. Needless to say, the strep went away. But next time I get it, I'll request another treatment."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I have a very bad chest infection, which always develops following a bout of flu. I was reluctant to take these antibiotics, as I had never had this one before, so I ignored the Dr's orders and suffered for two days. When the fever wouldn't go, and I started shivering in bed, my husband decided enough was enough and luckily persuaded me to take these tablets... WOW! Within actual hours, I could feel a small difference, the next day my fever disappeared and symptoms reduced quite rapidly, and by day three, I am almost back to my usual self."

Penicillin v potassium for Streptococcal Infection "Worst medication I’ve ever been prescribed. I had strep for the first time in my life over a year ago, and I was prescribed this. It interacted with my vitamins. I felt exhausted all the time. Plus, it didn’t even work. I had strep again days after finishing out my prescription. I was taking it at specific times each day and taking all the precautions while having strep. I was prescribed this once more, and it didn’t work. Finally, I was given another antibiotic, amoxicillin. Works way better. I’ve heard the same from many friends who also had bad experiences with penicillin."

For Streptococcal Infection "I took 1 pill. Hours later, I began cramping and having extreme pain while urinating. The feeling of having to urinate would not stop. Couldn't sleep. I began bleeding while urinating during the night (first time that has ever happened to me). Will never take this med again. Symptoms disappeared after 12 hrs."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Had surgery recently and was sent home with this medication to take for post-op. Prescription was 4 pills a day... Had a week's supply. Day 2, I'm severely light-headed, feeling like I'm going to faint any time I move. I was off and on nauseous. My body felt extremely weak. I typically had chills and cold sweats about an hour after taking the pill every time I took it. I also experienced minor difficulty breathing, as if my breathing was suddenly off rhythm and shallow. I stopped taking the medication on day 3 and fully recovered. Not the pill for me."

For Bacterial Infection "I am on my second day of taking this med for what I believe is to be an infected tooth. The dentist did not see me, prescribed after hearing my symptoms. I do not have any side effects, but the pain is still incredible. I am taking 600 mg 4 times a day. Sure hope this pain goes away."

For Bacterial Infection "Dentist prescribed this penicillin V medication because the tip of a root canal had broken off and caused an infection. I took 500 mg four times per day for 7 days. At the end of the 7 days, both legs were swollen from the ankle to the hip, and it was difficult and painful to walk. My PCP prescribed a mild diuretic to reduce the swelling, but I continued to have severe knee pain. The swollen knees led to an arthritic flare-up. As a result, the severe pain still exists nearly four weeks after the initial swelling. My PCP and physical therapist said it was the potassium that caused all the swelling and pain. Will not take this drug again in the future."

Penicillin v potassium for Tonsillitis/Pharyngitis "I have a bad experience with this. The doctor advises me to take four 500 mg capsules in a day, and after finishing 25 pills, the pain was worse. Then I went to a different GP, and she gave me 5 pills of Roxar 300 for another 5 days. Today is the second day, but the throat is the same, I can't even drink water."

Penicillin v potassium for Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I took this medication for a nerve infection and ate food while I was taking it, but within a couple of days, I started feeling nauseous, had a fever, and was throwing up. Ever since then, I've stopped taking it. Will NEVER take this medication again due to it causing me to be more anxious and more worried about being nauseous and throwing up."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "I’ve been using this for an infected tooth, and I still have pain and slight swelling in my face after 2 days on the medication. It hasn’t changed anything, if anything, it’s worse. Even with my nerve removed from the tooth."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Worked to some extent, but the first couple of days of taking it, I felt really nauseous, ended up with a fever, and was throwing up. I've stopped taking it since then. I will forever blame penicillin for making my worry about being nauseous and throwing up worse."
