For Anxiety "23-year-old male. Been taking Paroxetine for the past 2 weeks for my anxiety attacks, which prevented me from working. Worked great at controlling the anxiety, but the side effects were too much. Every night, I would take the medicine (anytime from 7-10 pm) and would wake up at 3 am and 5 am for no apparent reason. Caused me to be tired throughout the day. Also caused an overwhelming minty taste in my mouth/throat. Made it hard to concentrate on work."

Paroxetine "I have been taking Paxil for over 20 years, it ended the bipolar depression for a time, but at a terrible cost. I lost my creativity, became tired, and lacked ambition. Since the pandemic, Paxil stopped working. It made me sleep 15 hours a day and wish I was dead. I had to go cold turkey on it about three weeks ago because my doctor would have taken too long to help me. Going off it was all positive for me - but may be a foolish decision for others."

For Depression "My doctor realized that I am super sensitive, so he knows that he has to start me off extremely low. So, I was just prescribed 10 mg of Paxil, but he actually just wanted me to start out taking half for a week. Which is a good idea because of how sensitive I am. Tonight, after I took the half, I soon got a little spacey, and I became really tired and had a little bit of pressure in my head and behind my eye. But today is also the first day of my period, and I sometimes get headaches with it, so I don't know if it was because of the Paxil. But I dozed off for a bit, and right now I feel pretty okay, and I was just on my bedroom floor snuggling with my pitbull. I am just so desperate for something to work because I have been struggling so badly with such severe depression, and the anxiety has manifested into crazy OCD symptoms, where I am constantly checking things and washing my hands, and it's making me feel crazy."

Paroxetine for Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Before I took Paxil, I never knew what a calm mind felt like! I always felt as though instead of me controlling my thoughts, my thoughts would control me. I couldn’t stand another day feeling this constant apprehension, so I started on 10 mg and I started to feel a difference in my anxiety around week 3-4. Although my symptoms had decreased, I experienced a whole lot of side effects. To name a few: anhedonia, indifference (apathy), emotional numbness, derealization, depersonalization, dry mouth, diarrhea, low sex drive, increased appetite, changes in taste, yawning, drowsiness, mild sore throat, etc. I increased from 10 mg to 20 mg in order to treat the anhedonia, it did relieve it to an extent, but I then felt too apathetic. I went back down to 10 mg and eventually discontinued due to other lingering side effects. Although this medication did calm me down and reduce my anxiety, I’d recommend trying this medication as a last resort! Try Lexapro before trying this one."

For Anxiety "What I can say, WOW. I became relaxed and calm in a few days. The first few months on paroxetine are like the best dream that you can have. Also, the first few months I had some side effects - erectile dysfunction, anorgasmia, sleepiness. Day by day I was feeling more tired, sleepy, numb, cold-hearted, angry and aggressive, had trouble with memory. This drug made me so depressed and numb. After one year of treatment, I've decided to stop taking it. Am I bad? I did 'cold turkey'. But after three weeks of this, I took the dose again. After some research, I started tapering by 25%. It took me two months to get off of paroxetine. This time it wasn't that horrible. To sum up: in my experience, if anxiety and panic attacks take over you, paroxetine is the way out. But you gotta keep in mind that it gives you EXTREMELY STRONG withdrawal. Amazing drug for anxiety, but in the long term, it can make you depressed, even suicidal."

Paroxetine for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "Paxil made me gain 5 lbs. I noticed most of it was in my abdomen. It also made me very tired. I gained 15 lbs. overall. I was taken off it, but my energy wasn't coming back. It turned out I had a thyroid problem due to my carbamazepine, which controls my epileptic seizures."

Paroxetine for Social Anxiety Disorder "I don't think Paxil ever worked for me, and it always made me feel really bad, but I think my social anxiety was a lot better. I feel much better now without Paxil, and I'm on Zeldox and Lamictal, but I'm getting pretty bad anxiety, so I'm trying to find a good medication for anxiety, and especially social anxiety because it makes me feel really bad at university. I was on Paxil, Risperdal, Lamictal, and Zeldox before, and I was always extremely tired. I think I'm less tired now, but I can't remember how tired I was before. I was on Paxil when I was 13, and it also made me feel really bad and didn't do anything for my depression, and it didn't help. I'm 24 now."
