For Anxiety "I was scared to try it because of all the reviews. Here’s an opinion for people who are considering it. The first few days (about 3-4), you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, and nauseous. If you do, take it before bed so you can sleep through it. After the first few days, those symptoms go away when your body gets used to the drug. It does take about 2 weeks for you to notice any difference. So give it time, and in the meantime, ask your doctor for some Xanax to calm you down for the two weeks. It helped me! After 10 days, I saw a difference in my anxiety. I’m on 20 mg, and my doctor thinks I’ll need to up my dosage because I still have anxiety. Also, remember that not every drug works the same on everyone. Just give it a chance, if it does not help, move on."

For Anxiety and Stress "I started paroxetine 20 mg 2 1/2 months ago. The first few days, I was very nauseous. That went away fast, and 2 weeks into it, I felt good. I could deal with my small anxieties and stresses. I still can deal with them because I don't care, in fact, I came to find I don't care about anything anymore. About 2 months into this medicine, I started sleeping 12 to 14 hours-not good-along with very vivid strange dreams, and I don't care about anything! My ears ring with a buzz, and I was gritting my teeth until a piece of my molar broke off. I was not depressed when I started, but I think that's where I'm headed. I have recently had suicidal thoughts. The last 2 weeks, taking only 10 mg (split pills) to taper off, after reading all about the withdrawal."

Paroxetine for Anxiety "Initially I used to take Inderal 10 mg, but suddenly I stopped as I had low BP. Now the doctor prescribed me paroxetine 12.5 mg and Inderal 10 mg. Will it affect blood pressure? After using paroxetine, I also feel nauseous and don't feel like eating, and I feel bloated. It's been a month that I am on paroxetine, but I feel a lot better than before, like a bit more confident and happy."

For Anxiety "I started this medicine 9 days ago. I had my first panic attack ever like a month ago. My anxiety started about 2 months ago after receiving a phone call with bad news. I was so anxious that I stopped eating and sleeping. During those past two months, I was feeling very anxious in the mornings and afternoons and sometimes back to my normal self at night. I developed a social phobia as well. Paxil has terrible side effects: nausea, insomnia, total loss of appetite (didn't have much to start with), drowsiness, involuntary muscle movements, etc. I thought about stopping it on the third day because of insomnia. I made it to day 9, and my anxiety isn't really better. Doc said give it more time."

For Hot Flashes "My PA prescribed this med for hot flashes. I took it for a few weeks and was delighted with the improvement in my sleep quality. My hot flashes decreased in intensity. However, two weeks in, I began to feel malaise and a sour stomach. I didn’t put it together until 26 doses that the medication was causing excess stomach acid, headaches, and nausea. I researched side effects and realized it was paroxetine causing me to feel sick. I also felt woozy and doped up. My nausea caused vomiting, which burned my throat. I flushed the capsules down the toilet almost four weeks in. It took a week to escape the mental fog. I felt like my brain was peeling itself out of a latex cast for a week. My stomach was so bad, I developed a bleeding ulcer. I required a proton pump inhibitor and anti-nausea medicine after 26 doses. Quitting cold seemed like the best way versus tapering off because my stomach was raw, full, bloated, and nauseous. I threw up. I need a GI consult now. I'd rather have hot flashes. No go. Not for me."

For Social Anxiety Disorder "I was put on this for 4 months. A lot of the panic attacks went down, but more stress was added. The side effects for me were easier bruising, nausea, fatigue, migraines, etc. It caused me to skip school a lot, and I got behind, so it added more and more anxiety and was not worth it. I recommend no medication and therapy for social anxiety, and to help stomach aches and headaches, use tiger balm and gin-gins (you can buy them at Whole Foods stores)."

For Anxiety and Stress "Took successfully in 2003-4 for PTSD and associated anxiety. No side effects (other than lost libido) and came off them easily under doctor's supervision. 13 years later, I was put back on them due to depression and anxiety. This time they have been horrendous! Headaches, bones in my face aching, nausea, a 'creeping' feeling through my hands, arms, and shoulders, disorientation, racing heart, not passing urine frequently enough, and terrifying sleep problems (insomnia but feeling like you're being suffocated and having awful thoughts). After 12 days, I realized I couldn't take these symptoms anymore. On the advice of a doctor, I ceased instantly. By Day 2, the withdrawal was awful - a more intense version of the side effects. Easing now (Day 4)"

Paroxetine for Anxiety "Paxil is very effective, but it has way too many negative side effects. When I was on Paxil, I experienced nausea, headaches, fatigue, and a burning sensation in the stomach. I literally felt like a zombie that had zero energy. I’m glad I was not on it for too long, which made me get zero withdrawals, but it did keep me from getting anxiety or feeling depressed because I felt sick the entire time."

For Anxiety "I am 35 years old male, and I have extreme anxiety (can’t move out of the house) and panic attacks. Started 3 months ago, take only 15 mg/day: 1st week: extreme nausea from 2nd week: felt nothing, sometimes I had some light nausea, but nothing serious side effect. From 4th week: definitely felt better, most of my anxiety and panic attacks are gone. From 12th week: the drug shows its evil side. I don’t know why, but I feel like a zombie. The extreme nausea is back, I always have a headache, and my appetite is totally lost. On one hand, this drug is great against anxiety, but on the other hand, it has many terrible side effects. I guess I’ll quit, not worth it."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "Paroxetine (40 mg) helped me while I was taking it. When I started taking it, I was sick for the first 3 weeks, but overall it helped ease my anxiety and depression. I gained 15 kg on it, which was horrible. Also, my sex drive disappeared completely, which sucked. Then, once I tried to stop taking it (with help from my doctor), it became a literal nightmare. I quit a couple weeks ago, and I've been having severe withdrawal symptoms. I have been experiencing severe nausea, nonstop, can't keep food down, sweating, brain zaps, overall, it feels like I have the worst flu. Now the only options are going back on the meds or switching to a different antidepressant that will eventually have less withdrawal symptoms. Overall, kind of a crappy experience."

For Generalized Anxiety Disorder "I was just prescribed this medicine to start taking for my anxiety. After reading these reviews, I am terrified. Weight gain? I eat really well and work out every day, and I am still going to gain weight? Not to mention the brain zaps? The nausea and the dizziness? Come on, people. Thanks for terrifying me."
