For Stress Ulcer Prophylaxis "I've been taking Pantoprazole for 2 months, and I feel absolutely awful. Nausea, lack of appetite, dizziness, crying, and pain attacks. I didn't feel this bad before I started taking them. I went to the A&E department just yesterday and explained my symptoms. She doubled my dose! I'm already taking 20 mg twice a day, and she advised 40 mg twice a day. I don't plan on taking these and will finish my packet of 20 mg (only 4 left). I would strongly advise anyone who is thinking of taking Pantoprazole to reconsider."

For Stomach Ulcer "I thought pantoprazole was a miracle at first. It worked fantastically for my stomach issues. However, I soon started having strange problems. I had COVID previously and thought it was long COVID. I was experiencing brain fog, unreal levels of insomnia, it felt like gallons of adrenaline were flowing through my body. I slept less than 4 hours in 5 days. Utter exhaustion, dizziness, headache, racing heartbeat for no reason, high blood pressure. I never had high blood pressure before. Nausea, weight loss, ringing in my ears that won't stop, panic attack. When I was convinced I was going to die if I closed my eyes, I got off this horrible drug. I've never had a panic attack before. I'm very slowly improving from the side effects, but they are still there after a week off. I was on pantoprazole for about 2 months, it feels like this horrible drug has ruined my life."

For Erosive Esophagitis "2 weeks I took the pill for 7 days straight. Some days were okay, others got a lot of nausea and anxiety. Even got 1 panic attack. Stopped it but was suffering from esophagitis. Undigested food, chest pressure, nauseous. Doctor told me to take it for 3 weeks. I restarted today, but I'm getting symptoms again, like nausea and anxiety. What are alternate options? I'm scared, not sure what to do. Doctors didn't believe me this medicine altered my anxiety levels. I got an anxiety pill, but it takes like 1 week to start working."

For Stomach Ulcer "I gave it a 1 because the side effects for me were so severe. I can't tell yet whether it helped my stomach, but I knew instantly I had to get off it. Further reading and other people's experiences sealed the deal for me. I went deaf, instantly jaundiced face and eyes, eyesight went some days... some days not. I was taking other drugs that were compatible with it, but the side effects I'm certain came from this one. Once I went off of it (I tapered down over a week while upping my diet based on my condition's needs), I had a severe headache for a couple of days, heart raced, and a bit of nausea. I feel much better now, and the jaundice is gone, and after almost two months of not being able to hear, I hear a bit better today. I was taking 80mg."

For GERD "I took Protonix 40 mg for about two and a half weeks. My doctor prescribed this after my insurance no longer covered my Nexium that I had been on for years. I had intermittent headaches and also had stomach pains and nausea. The nausea is horrible, and I have been off of it for a day now, and nausea is still persisting. I feel like I have to vomit from the nausea. I do not recommend this drug. I had no side effects with my Nexium, so now I will try omeprazole."

For GERD "Was prescribed Nexium for gastritis and did not relieve symptoms. Went twice to ER, had abdominal X-rays, blood tests, heart monitoring, all came back normal. Put on pantoprazole, and GP advised I could stop after a month. Nearly a week off this and feel worse than ever with return of symptoms. Looks like I have to recommence pantoprazole and have a GI consult. So over the discomfort and constant nausea."

For GERD "Took this medicine for GERD. Before taking the medicine, I never had panic attacks or crazy anxiety. Since taking it over the course of the last month, I’ve had muscle tightness, upper back pain, nausea, and muscles feel like they’re going to cramp. Panic attacks are starting to become normal, and my anxiety is through the roof every day. Didn’t know the side effects before searching them, and once I saw them, I threw it away quickly."

For GERD "I have been on Pantoprazole for almost 3 years. About 4 months after starting Pantoprazole, I started becoming very fatigued and light-headed, but I continued to take it because it helped tremendously with my GERD symptoms. In the past 3 weeks, I’ve become very nauseous and dizzy after taking the medication. Today my new primary doc switched me over to Nexium, and I finally feel relieved of all the bad stuff that Pantoprazole was causing!"

For Stomach Ulcer "It only worked for a week properly. Although I don’t have heartburn anymore, I feel nauseous, bloated, and gassy constantly. During the second week, I developed pneumonia in one lung and pleurisy in the other. After being on antibiotics for 10 days, the effect of pantoprazole seemed to wear off. Would antibiotics cause this to happen?"

For GERD "I was prescribed pantoprazole to take for a few weeks in lieu of famotidine because I am going to be getting allergy skin testing done and the famotidine interferes with it. Day 1 of taking it, I felt perfectly normal in the morning (6 AM-9:30 AM). I took the pantoprazole with my breakfast around 9:30 AM. Within an hour, I had a migraine headache, extreme gas and bloating, and I was running to the bathroom with diarrhea. I ate the same breakfast that I normally do (some dairy-free yogurt mixed with Keto granola-I never have had a stomachache after eating this). I then began to get nauseous as the day continued and was running to the bathroom at work and having to fart embarrassingly loud in the bathroom. I was filled with more gas than ever. The headache raged on and light began to bother me. I began having stomach cramps and leg pain. I took a Zofran and Motrin and ended up not eating dinner because I felt so sick. I will never take this medication again, and I advise you to do the same. Stay far away."

For GERD "I’ve just had a very bad experience with this drug. I took it for 3 days after going to the doctor with nausea and a tummy ache. The doctor looked up my endoscopy results and saw I had GERD, so I was given them to settle things down. Well, the nausea became chronic, with me gagging and choking, and my tummy was in so much pain, then I became breathless. I've had no sleep for the past 3 days, and I had a thought I might die. For some reason, I didn’t think this drug could be the cause, after all, I had gone to the doctor with the nausea, I just thought I was dying. Lucky I rang my gastroenterologist, who said to stop taking the drug. This next morning, I have no nausea and feel less anxious, still breathless though, and improved tummy pain. Never put up with these symptoms for more than one day, as I worry I’ve caused permanent damage. This drug absolutely sucks!!"

For GERD "After taking omeprazole for several years, it seemed to stop working. I also have Barrett's. I was put on this drug two years ago. I have had daily headaches, shortness of breath, sharp pains in my hips and shoulders, racing heart, itching, bloating, and extreme smelly gas. Now I'm vomiting and nauseated. I put on 20 lbs. I'm done with this drug. I'm going back to over-the-counter Mylanta and Pepcid. I feel stupid that I never put all of these together."

For GERD "A miserable medicine. Didn't do a single helpful thing but did provide a horrid headache, and get this - I went to the doctor with severe chest and abdominal pain and needing help for nausea that has been persistent for more than a week, even water wants to, and sometimes does, come back up. I am badly dehydrated. So one of the side effects of this medicine is nausea. Pain is still a real problem, as is nausea, dehydration, plus dizziness. This stuff is worse than useless, and off my list, as is the doctor with a single focus who ignored most of what he was told."

For GERD "I have a 30-day prescription after having an upper GI. I have tried to take this med three times. The food that I ate just seemed to get stuck in my esophagus and eventually came back up, making me feel very nauseous. I also had a stomach ache and acid reflux, which I do not normally have. In addition, I felt very dehydrated, even with drinking plenty of fluid, and had a huge headache that lingered for hours."

For Peptic Ulcer "I have been on 40 mg of Protonix for about 17-18 years. It has worked wonders (I have a peptic ulcer that covered my whole stomach) for years and could eat pretty much whatever. Now it's not working as well and wondered y'all's opinion on upping the dose or switching to AcipHex (the ONLY OTHER ONE THAT WORKS), which is more expensive. I stay nauseated a lot but have lived in a very stressful situation for a while. I have medical knowledge-phlebotomy and Alzheimer's hospice care and med aide-but I had a nervous breakdown about a year ago and discovered that I'm bipolar, OCD, and ADHD and probably some more letters. I am going to go to my doctors but just kind of wanted y'all's opinion."

For Dumping Syndrome "I was given Protonix for dumping syndrome and was still vomiting. My Dr. now has me taking 2 per day, I'm still nauseated and still vomiting. Should I ask my Dr. for something else, or is surgery looking near to my future?"

For GERD "This drug does not work at all and might have made me have severe nausea. Within 3 days of taking this medication, I started feeling super nauseous and could barely eat anything. After a week or two of stopping this medication, the nausea got better, but the reflux was still not going away, so I assume this medication was giving me severe side effects. The nausea could be from food too, since I have issues with food and reflux/indigestion. I would not recommend this at all."

For GERD "I was prescribed pantoprazole for my GERD, which usually made me vomit in the mornings. I took my first dose on a Monday night before dinner, which is what my doctor told me to do, however, I woke up at 2 AM vomiting everything, and this continued the entire Tuesday. I was able to calm down enough to take the medication again that night because I just assumed I ate something weird. I was vomiting every 30 minutes with non-stop nausea and reflux (I could feel it every time I breathed), it was miserable. I had to receive IV fluid therapy in order to regain a sense of being alive. It is now Friday, and I have not taken the medication since Tuesday night, and I am still feeling the nausea effects. I was not notified of any of the side effects, and my doctor basically just treated it like my OTC omeprazole, which I will definitely be switching back to."

For Stomach Ulcer "Been taking pantoprazole since 2018. I've had nothing but bad depression, anxiety, sore stomach, bone aches, weird pain on my left side all the time. Doctors don't know what's causing it. The chest pains, pins and needles, headaches, brain fog, blurry vision, diarrhea, bloating, loss of appetite, nausea, and insomnia. I did stop taking them for about 3 weeks and felt great, but that yuk acidy taste came back, so I thought I'd take them again. Now feeling like rubbish again. Now I'll stop taking them for good."
