For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I can't even explain how horrible this headache is. It is 3:44 a.m., and I can't sleep a wink because of the horrible pain I'm in. I've only just started this medication, yesterday, and it will be my last dose. It's Pantoprazole Sodium Extended Release 40 mg. When they say headache is a possible/common side effect, they weren't kidding. Migraine-like pain. I will gladly take gastritis over this crap. Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever again. This sucks soooooo bad!!!"

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "I was put on pantoprazole for stomach irritations caused by NSAIDs. Has anyone experienced itching or rashes with pantoprazole? I have taken it for 10 days and had only mild headaches and unpleasant dizziness. But yesterday I developed some itchy, blotchy-looking rash areas. They itch like crazy. I have every cream under the yellow sun in my closet, and nothing has turned off this infernal itch."

For Stomach Ulcer "I started taking pantoprazole about 3 weeks ago. Saturday morning, my head woke me up throbbing, not being able to get out of bed like serious migraine. I never experienced pain like this in my life. Sunday and Monday, I was okay, dizzy, but my head seemed okay. Tuesday came around, and that awful headache was back, it turns out 10 percent of people get migraines from this. I have to say it did help my ulcer, but I definitely will never forget that headache pain. Now, I have to be on muscle relaxers and anticonvulsants until this drug leaves my system to deal with the headaches - just an FYI."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I was prescribed Pantoprazole for H. pylori. I have experienced headaches, shortness of breath, and an awful metallic taste in my mouth. A recent visit to the doctor, and I was found to have high blood pressure, so I was put on Ramipril for that. The side effects were constant coughing to the point of vomiting. I looked up Ramipril only to find it was the source of the coughing, so I called my M.D. to have it changed to a non-ACE inhibitor. Now I just did a search on the Pantoprazole, only to find that it can have a contraindication of high blood pressure! Bloody hell! Can't these M.D.s do a simple research!? What a mess I'm in now. Would have been better off without either drug."

For GERD "I was prescribed this medication because my insurance wasn't covering my previous medication, which worked just right for me. This medication does ease the stomach pain, but it gives me a nasty headache. The last headache that I had, which was contributed by this medication, lasted 5 days! Once I came to the realization that it was the Pantoprazole 40 mg, I stopped taking them, and the headache went away."

For Gastritis/Duodenitis "Have taken this medication only three days, as I tried the others, which gave me headaches. This one is the worst, as reflux kept under control but had terrible headaches lasting most of the day and night, and have to stop, back to antacids."

For GERD "I've been on Protonix for 2 weeks and feel awful. I have high-pitched ringing in my ears, headaches, a lot of fatigue, and constantly feel like there is a lump in my throat that is very uncomfortable. I just feel beat up and wiped out! Saw Dr., but she found nothing. Didn't look down throat very well, though. Hate not knowing if it's Protonix, but worried about stopping it to see."

Pantoprazole for GERD "Prescribed Protonix by my doctor, and after a week and a half, I had to stop. Almost immediately, anything I ate gave me heartburn (I didn't have frequent heartburn before), headaches every morning, extreme nausea, so much that I had no appetite, foggy brain, joint pain in my hands/wrists, abdominal pain, and depression/anxiety. I wish I would have done my research and asked more questions. I'm on day 2 after stopping, and I feel slightly better. I'm going to try a cleaned-up diet and not eating so late. Let us hope it works."

For GERD "I started medication when omeprazole quit working. I had to take Gaviscon daily. A friend said his doc had put him on pantoprazole and he was having good luck. I asked my PCP, and he said I could try it. First day, I experienced extreme intestinal cramping shortly after taking it. By the time I got home, I spent considerable time in the bathroom with diarrhea. It subsided several hours later; it left my stomach 'tender.' Not thinking the two were related, I took another one the next morning. By the time I got to work, I had to run to the bathroom-same issues. Day 3, no intestinal issues; however, I broke out in hives all over my body (so I took 2 Zyrtec and 2 Pepcid, which relieved the itching). Day 4, I tried again-this time, MASSIVE headache and hives. I did the 2 Zyrtec and 2 Pepcid and IB800, and the hives and headaches went away. On day 4, I decided to review the side effects-all of my side effects fall under 'rare occurrences.' I stopped taking it, and the symptoms have subsided."

For GERD "I went in to the doctor for acid reflux, and he prescribed me Protonix, and after two days, it helped, but shortly after that, I started getting worse acid reflux, along with very uncomfortable chest pains and a ton of anxiety, thinking I was having a heart attack-so bad that I had to take a stress test and EKG to rule out any heart problems. In addition to quitting the drug, I had stomach pain, headaches, and ringing in the ears. However, I did stop cold turkey, but I was only on it for a short time. I'm a 39-year-old male in decent shape. I would not recommend this to anyone I know. I'm sure this medication works great for some people, but definitely not for me."

For GERD "I think doctors have to screen their patients better before giving them pantoprazole or any other of the PPI inhibitors. The first time I took pantoprazole, I felt terrible with feeling out of it, dizzy, and chest pains, and a general feeling like I was going to die. Went off it right away, another year went by, and the doctor said to go back on it as my GERD was acting up. So I tried it again and had the same symptoms, and I told my doctor, and then he prescribed Dexilant, and again, I had terrible severe reactions to it, like I could not breathe and feeling dizzy and high anxiety. Went to the hospital, and the doctor there said maybe I am allergic to magnesium and said to take pantoprazole NA with sodium instead of magnesium in it. Well, I took one of those the next day, and they are time-released, and every 20 minutes or so, I would get a terrible metal/chemical taste in my mouth, and then dizzy and left arm feeling funny and more anxiety and headache and pains in my stomach, and that kept building and getting worse."

For GERD "I've been on pantoprazole for one week. I was sent to GI from my PCP because of inflammation in my throat. The doctor said I may have GERD and wants to do an endoscope in one month after being on this medication. Since taking it, I've been dizzy, had heart palpitations, experienced anxiety, insomnia, and a ridiculous headache. I'm not taking any more after today, I can't take the side effects, nor do I feel this is my issue. I also went to my endocrinologist, and she informed me that the inflammation is from my enlarged thyroid after doing an ultrasound."

For GERD "My doctor prescribed pantoprazole for chronic cough. He thought the cough and hoarseness might be caused by GERD. I quit after a few days because of the side effects. My osteoarthritis was so sore after taking this medication that I could barely walk. I had ulcers in my mouth, my nose was tingling, and I had horrible headaches. Days after quitting, I am having attacks of heartburn. I had none before taking this medication. My advice is not to go near it!!"

For Stomach Ulcer "Hopefully, it will cure the ulcers and torn-up stomach caused by antibiotics due to infection from a kitten bite. The side effects are awful: tired, burps, insomnia, fever, headaches, loss of appetite, belching, bloated, fatigue, drowsiness, tired feeling, and stomach upset. I'm on other medications, and my depression is worse, but not sleeping or feeling well adds to it. Not sure if it's connected, but I have so many canker sores on my tongue, my throat hurts."

For Stomach Ulcer "Been taking pantoprazole since 2018. I've had nothing but bad depression, anxiety, sore stomach, bone aches, weird pain on my left side all the time. Doctors don't know what's causing it. The chest pains, pins and needles, headaches, brain fog, blurry vision, diarrhea, bloating, loss of appetite, nausea, and insomnia. I did stop taking them for about 3 weeks and felt great, but that yuk acidy taste came back, so I thought I'd take them again. Now feeling like rubbish again. Now I'll stop taking them for good."

For Stomach Ulcer "I thought pantoprazole was a miracle at first. It worked fantastically for my stomach issues. However, I soon started having strange problems. I had COVID previously and thought it was long COVID. I was experiencing brain fog, unreal levels of insomnia, it felt like gallons of adrenaline were flowing through my body. I slept less than 4 hours in 5 days. Utter exhaustion, dizziness, headache, racing heartbeat for no reason, high blood pressure. I never had high blood pressure before. Nausea, weight loss, ringing in my ears that won't stop, panic attack. When I was convinced I was going to die if I closed my eyes, I got off this horrible drug. I've never had a panic attack before. I'm very slowly improving from the side effects, but they are still there after a week off. I was on pantoprazole for about 2 months, it feels like this horrible drug has ruined my life."

For Stomach Ulcer "I gave it a 1 because the side effects for me were so severe. I can't tell yet whether it helped my stomach, but I knew instantly I had to get off it. Further reading and other people's experiences sealed the deal for me. I went deaf, instantly jaundiced face and eyes, eyesight went some days... some days not. I was taking other drugs that were compatible with it, but the side effects I'm certain came from this one. Once I went off of it (I tapered down over a week while upping my diet based on my condition's needs), I had a severe headache for a couple of days, heart raced, and a bit of nausea. I feel much better now, and the jaundice is gone, and after almost two months of not being able to hear, I hear a bit better today. I was taking 80mg."

For GERD "I took Protonix 40 mg for about two and a half weeks. My doctor prescribed this after my insurance no longer covered my Nexium that I had been on for years. I had intermittent headaches and also had stomach pains and nausea. The nausea is horrible, and I have been off of it for a day now, and nausea is still persisting. I feel like I have to vomit from the nausea. I do not recommend this drug. I had no side effects with my Nexium, so now I will try omeprazole."

For GERD "Awful, awful experience!!! I used to take Nexium for GERD, but my doctors switched me to pantoprazole when I had to start taking a blood thinner, and I couldn’t do Nexium with that. I developed chronic diarrhea (10+ times per day!), daily headaches, severe dizziness, and a feeling like I was spinning when walking and just basically felt like crap for a month before I figured out that it was the pantoprazole! I will never, ever take this drug again!! It might work for some people, but not for me!!!!"

For GERD "My gastro prescribed me 40 mg of pantoprazole once a day with Itropride. Tried it for 7 days. It gave me relief and feels like I'm totally healed. However, it gave me severe constipation, which resulted in hemorrhoids. It gave me a headache and fatigue as well. He then changed it to ranitidine, but it does not help at all. He then gave me Dafflon for my hemorrhoids and got healed. I will not try this product again."

For GERD "Horrible medication, but the only thing that helps my severe GERD. I have terrible stiff necks, headaches, weakness, and severe chills, and I feel like I want to pass out, so I’m hoping it’s just symptoms, side effects from the medication. Anyone else?"

For Erosive Esophagitis "I have been on pantoprazole 20 mg for 14 months. All has been great up until this point! In the past week, I have had terrible weakness, confusion, headaches, muscle/joint pains, blurred vision, and fatigue. I nearly passed out this evening, so I went to the ER, and they said that everything checked out fine. I will be tapering off this medication starting tomorrow!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I am taking this with amoxicillin and Flagyl and pantoprazole for H. pylori infection. I don't find any bad symptoms. I am on my 3rd day of this regimen and find that there are really no side effects but a bit of a headache. I am just so thankful that there is a cure. Good health to you."

Pantoprazole for GERD "Awful! Ruined an entire ten-day vacation. Gas, stomach cramps, headache, alternating constipation and diarrhea. I had started taking a few days before the vacation and did not think much about it. I thought I had a stomach bug as it started just a few days into the vacation. On day ten, I realized it might be this med. I stopped, and within two days everything went back to normal."

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "Been on pantoprazole for about 2 months now. Have an almost constant headache with varying degrees of pain plus lots of burping. Hate this drug. Will be so glad to get off of it. Also extremely fatigued with no energy."
