"Afrin works very well, however, the last 3 or 4 bottles of the spray that I purchased over a year ago started smelling like mildew after a month or so. What is causing this? The expiration date on the container is 2 years away."

"In my experience, Afrin or similar off-brand nasal sprays smell like mildew after temperature changing in the bottle. Getting warm and cold, warm and cold, mostly from being in your pocket or in your vehicle. It’s essentially stagnant water that grows bacteria, hence, the mildew smell."
