Olanzapine for Major Depressive Disorder "I was put on Zyprexa 12.5 mg this past summer when I was hospitalized. Along with Nortriptyline, it saved my life. I was constantly anxious and suicidal. Zyprexa does increase your appetite, but if you count calories, avoid binging, and take Metformin 500 mg twice daily, you don’t have to gain weight. I also exercise daily. Zyprexa worked on everything: Anxiety, depression, and insomnia. It’s mildly sedating, but won’t knock you out like Seroquel will. These meds are a tricky business, and I wish all of you well. Hang in there if you’re suffering."

Olanzapine for Bipolar Disorder "I am 27 and have been dealing with manic depression for most of my life. I take Lamictal 250mg and Wellbutrin 300mg. I was very recently put on Zyprexa for the first time after a suicide attempt and hospitalization. I was VERY reluctant to try it because I've read all the side effects. I tried it (2.5mg). I have to admit it changed my life after ONE (low) dose! It was like I went to bed hanging on by a thread and woke up with all my strings attached. I saw quick results. No waiting for a month to see if it will work. Since I have only been taking this medicine for a week, I haven't had any side effects yet. So far, it has really, really been a miracle. Mood stability has always been a really huge issue for me and this has taken care of it."

For Bipolar Disorder "I remember the day after my first pill: so fatigued and nauseous that I left dance early. My appetite increased, and I gained 10 pounds in two weeks. But my psychosis and mania were GONE immediately. I went off the med 7 months later because my parents thought it was making me ditzy, but things got really bad, so I started taking it again. I gained more weight, but I was sleeping again, and I felt so much better. Two years later, and I’m back to the weight I was before, normal appetite, not ditzy, sleeping through the night, no psychosis, no mania. I’d say the munchies went away in 4 months, but idk it’s been a while. I think the only side effect I have now is drowsiness, but I take it at night, so it doesn’t matter. Zyprexa is a crucial drug for my well-being. It works right away."

Olanzapine for Bipolar Disorder "I have had great luck with this drug. I feel happy and hopeful again. I used to have serious breakdowns every two years, but I have a strong feeling Zyprexa is going to reduce or even put a stop to those occurrences. I am able to enjoy activities and feel pleasure and contentment. I feel as close to non-bipolar as I think I ever will. I just hope this drug has longevity and can be used for decades, like my prescriber said it could."

Olanzapine for Schizophrenia "This medication killed my schizophrenia in two months. But I gained 20 pounds, which is okay considering I was a little underweight. The worst side effect was that my eyes would not move. Finally, a doctor told me to cut down my dosage from 10 mg to 5 mg, and this lowered the occurrence. When I lowered it to 2.5 mg, the side effect completely went away. Now I feel great, and the schizophrenia is still gone. I recommend Zyprexa, but the doctor has to be really careful with the dosage."

Olanzapine for Bipolar Disorder "I was diagnosed as bipolar in 1987. I've always been treatment-resistant. Nothing, and I mean no meds, have ever helped me before. I've tried everything over the years, only to have bad side effects and no relief. ECT was actually being recommended to me, then my doctor put me on a Zyprexa/Prozac combination and for the first time in my life, I've gotten relief from my symptoms and no side effects. I can finally think clearly. I feel like a totally new person, a much better one."

Olanzapine for Insomnia "This medicine is a Godsend. I've tried every sleeping pill in the book (Ambien, Trazodone, Seroquel, Elavil, etc.). None of them would keep me asleep the whole night. 10mg of this and I sleep like a baby and don't have the racing thoughts. Only problem is it's real hard to get out of bed and get moving."

For Insomnia "Zyprexa gives me the best sleep ever, but I'm tired constantly, and it makes me so uncontrollably hungry. Just need to be careful about what you eat. It helps my mood too, as I also have bipolar disorder. I'd recommend it if you truly can't sleep and have bipolar disorder and/or OCD."

Olanzapine for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder "I have real events and false memory OCD, as well as GAD. My thoughts were running wild, I couldn't sleep more than 4 hours, and I was constantly giving in to my compulsions. After being hospitalized, I was prescribed Zyprexa. It worked almost immediately. That night, I was finally able to sleep a whole night, I got my appetite back, and my anxiety/thoughts were finally dampened to where I could function. I was on 2.5 mg, now up to 5 mg. Thank God for Zyprexa."

Olanzapine for Insomnia "After having tried just about every medication, Zyprexa is the one that kept me asleep. Of course, there are some mornings I wake up early, like about 4-5 in the morning. Those nights are rare. As far as weight gain, it hasn't been an issue. And I wish everybody the best of luck while taking these medications, because finding the right fit takes lots of patience :)"

For Insomnia "For years, I suffered from insomnia. My doctors tried Ambien, benzos, antidepressants, Seroquel, and antihistamines, and nothing worked for me. I saw a new doctor who put me on ten milligrams of olanzapine, and it was a success. I am now currently on 20 mgs at night. It puts me to sleep, but the hunger and weight gain are severe."

Olanzapine for Major Depressive Disorder "I am 5'3' tall and weigh 94 lbs. I was prescribed several different antidepressants over a span of ten years along with Klonopin 1 mg tid and Remeron 45 mg at bedtime for anxiety. I finally decided to see a psychiatrist, and she put me on 2.5 mg of Zyprexa at bedtime. Just one dose, and I was a completely different person! I woke up rested, smiling, happy, energized, and with a sense of well-being again! This drug was like night and day for me! I am now on day 5, and I just keep feeling better! I am doing things I never dreamed I would and was able to get the job I've always wanted! For me, Zyprexa has truly changed my life, and I hope it helps others the way it has helped me! The only side effect I've had is increased appetite (which I needed). :)"

Olanzapine for Insomnia "This medicine has made me gain a lot of weight due to the fact that I get hungry about 2 hours after taking it. After eating, I always pass out and sleep through the night until I have to wake up for my job at 7 a.m. I have been taking this medication for two years now, so I do not wake up groggy and foggy. This medication, to me, is a lifesaver for putting me to sleep and keeping me asleep. Just be careful with the night hungers! Other than that, I would totally recommend the medication if you can't sleep at night."

Olanzapine for Depression "This medication is a great sedative, if that's what you're looking for. It's not euphoric, it just makes you sleepy. But it caused me to gain over 40 pounds in less than 2 months. I now get depressed just looking in the mirror. My doctor says it just makes you hungry, not gain weight, but the amount of weight I gained in such a short time is unnatural!"

Olanzapine for Schizophrenia "I started taking Zyprexa 10 mg in 1996 until 2017, which is when I began tapering due to health reasons. I am now down to 2.5 mg but have gained a lot of weight, pain in joints, inability to sleep well, anxiety for no reason, memory loss, inability to think, no motivation, crying for no reason, terrible pain in my arms, muscle cramps in my feet, pancreatitis, constant eating, lack of feelings and enjoyment. Extremely difficult to get off it, it ruined my life!"

For Depression "Olanzapine saved my life... wait. Just kidding. I hate this drug. It stole my personality and way of feeling myself. After withdrawing, I have abnormal headaches, no motivation, and depressed to some extent. Thankfully I don't have insomnia, but I have realized I am sleeping lighter than before. This is poison. Don't take it."

For Depression "Zyprexa has been a wonder drug for me. After 10 years of serious depression and Bipolar 1 disorder and several different meds, this medication saved my life. After 9 hospitalizations and 2 suicide attempts, I was put on 10 mg of Zyprexa and have been stable for 3 years. This medicine has been a Godsend!"

Olanzapine for Bipolar Disorder "I am a 19-year-old girl and I have bipolar disorder 2 and suffer from anxiety and depression, so my doctor prescribed 10mg Zyprexa daily. I had HORRIBLE side effects. In four months, I gained 20 kg, developed cystic acne, and my thinking was slow and foggy. Any self-confidence I had or pride in my appearance evaporated completely. The worst part is I still had the anxiety and the depression (although I didn't expect an antipsychotic to help with depression). I'm so glad I'm not on it anymore. Zyprexa was definitely not for me."

Olanzapine for Bipolar Disorder "It can take your life. You will need to take this for the rest of your life, or your head will be haywire and thoughts will never stop, it will make you schizophrenic. RUN. I had mild bipolar, and my greedy psychiatrist gave me the worst mental illness in a bottle. If you take it, don't stop, just taper off and see if you can stop permanently. Most likely, you won't be able to."

Olanzapine for Depression "I have been on this medication for about 3 weeks now. I wake up hungry, drenched in sweat, and have also gained 15 pounds. I'm thinking about getting off this medication. I have also had crying spells, irritability, and mood swings, then some other days I have felt fine. It's weird. I'm going to give it a few more weeks, and if nothing improves as far as my moods, I will get off of it."

Olanzapine for Depression "Was on Zyprexa from Mar 2015 till Aug 2015. At first, it seemed like it was mellowing me out a bit, and I could sleep through the whole night, which was an improvement. After a few months, I noticed my depression was getting much worse. Came off the drug cold turkey, and went through one of the most serious withdrawals one could face. Depression, severe anxiety, PTSD, night terrors took over. To this day Apr 2016, I have still not returned to the way I was before I started taking this horrible drug. Depression and anxiety are still bad, not as bad as 6 months ago, but still worse than when I first started taking it. I'm convinced this drug can cause permanent brain damage."

For Insomnia "I went through a mental health crisis, with suicidal ideation and hadn't slept more than about 30 minutes to about an hour a night. I was a total mess. I was hospitalized voluntarily. The psychiatrist started me on 10 mg of olanzapine and 10 mg of melatonin, and for the first time that night actually slept. It was also a very good mood stabilizer. I was started on a range of antidepressants that weren't very effective, so luckily olanzapine kept me hanging in there. I saw my psychiatrist regularly. Eventually, we found a regimen of antidepressants that worked - mirtazapine at night and venlafaxine in the morning. I was still continuing with the olanzapine and the melatonin. I eventually discussed I'd like to slowly come off the olanzapine now that the antidepressants were working. Over the course of about 3 months, I tapered down slowly. Overall, I was on it for 10 months. It did its job well, I had no tapering side effects. So I'd recommend it to others if needed. Get a good psychiatrist too."

For Agitation "I found olanzapine to be a fantastic alternative to benzos for agitation. I wasn't keen on taking benzos again due to the risk of becoming addicted. I find olanzapine kicks in quite quickly and definitely helps to calm me down if I'm feeling agitated or anxious. I take this as well as a tetracyclic antidepressant. I find it does make it hard to wake up in the morning, but the plus is that I get a great night's sleep on this medication. Weight gain is a side effect, but I was underweight before taking it, so that worked well for me. Of course, it's always good to be aware of long-term side effects for atypical APs, and I'm personally tapering off with my doctor now that my mental health is improving."

Olanzapine for Schizophrenia "I've been taking Zyprexa for just over a year now and have seen dramatic improvements in my life. I used to be incredibly paranoid of people, was hearing voices, and was delusional about my physical health. I'm on 20 mg of Zyprexa, and most of my symptoms have cleared. Some of them remain, but they're much more tolerable than they used to be. The only drawbacks I have noticed are weight gain and slowed reactions, but I'd rather live through those side effects than experience what I did before treatment."

For Depression "I am from Kenya, that is in East Africa. I was diagnosed with depression by my doctor and put on Deprex 10 mg, which is also a brand name for olanzapine. I took it for about 28 days, which went well. I got good sleep, but after that, it was a nightmare. I was getting brain fog. I tried to quit it, but the withdrawals were crazy. I couldn't sleep at night, restlessness was another issue. So, I self-lowered to 5 mg. I am not having a normal sleep, waking up a couple of times at night. Last night, I took 2.5 mg. I am really trying to get off this garbage by tapering because the withdrawal is unbearable. DON'T TAKE THIS DRUG IF YOU LOVE YOURSELF AND YOUR LIFE."
