For Birth Control "I have been taking Heather for about two months. I am a transgender man, and I'm taking this pill to practice safer sex/not get pregnant. This pill was recommended to me by my doctor as an estrogen-free BC option. I’m sharing my experience since I have seen no other reviews from trans people. I was extremely nervous about this medication “bringing my period back,” as I have not menstruated since I started HRT five years ago. I was relieved when I noticed no side effects. The only thing I noticed was an increase in appetite for about two weeks, but no subsequent weight gain, as I controlled myself and didn’t alter my diet. No acne, no mood swings, it also didn’t mess with my head at all, which I was concerned about considering my history of depression. As long as you can remember to take the pill at approximately the same time each day, this is a great hormone-free BC pill option for trans men."

For Birth Control "I had gotten my period down to 5-6 days. Started Heather in May as a Day 1 starter. For May, June, and July, my period was 7 days long. Then came August, it lasted 23 days!! It is now September, and I'm on day 9 of my period and into the second week of the pack. Have decided to stop it altogether. Would not recommend due to this adverse effect. Also had a weird rash the first month as well. And I'm breaking out on the back of my neck along my hairline and a little bit on my back too. Disappointed!"

For Birth Control "I’m 20 years old, 135 lbs, and 5 foot 1. I’ve been on this Heather contraceptive pill for about 7 months, and I love it. Initially, I had tender breasts, but about 2 months in, I had no further symptoms. I don’t know if my experience is rare, like, I literally have no side effects while taking birth control, maybe I’m lucky. My cycle still comes regularly, and my cramps are WAYYYY more tolerable than they were before I started taking Heather. I use this exclusively for birth control, but I still use condoms/withdrawal method because I don’t completely trust them alone (better safe than sorry), and so far, I’m not pregnant. So I’m overall very pleased with my experience with these pills :)"

For Endometriosis "I have tried the combo pill twice before using Heather. I mainly started for horrible, heavy periods and intense cramps. The combo pill (both times) was absolutely horrible, and I’ve never felt worse in my life. Heather has been good for me, but has cons. I have irregular periods now, but they’re not very heavy, and I barely get cramps anymore, so the periods aren’t bad at all. The periods are also short (4-5 days) compared to my usual 8-10. Using Heather now has made me capable of doing my usual day-to-day activities while on my period. The downside is the hormonal acne. My skin is oily and acne-prone, but I’ve been getting painful cysts from this birth control. The irregular periods and acne are worth it for me personally because my endo made my periods a living nightmare before. When I first started it, I was on my period for a month, but after that, they’ve been pretty short aside from the one time that I missed a pill."

For Birth Control "I was trying to use this progesterone-only pill to regulate my hormone levels. I was told that I have PCOS and high estrogen levels, hypothyroidism, and hirsutism. I used it for 2 months. It helped slightly with my severe period pain, but I was still experiencing bloating and inflammation in my body when I was ovulating and before I started my period. It stopped my period headaches as well. The problem started when I was on my third month, and my period started like normal, but then a week later I started spotting with brown blood. Then, a week after that, I started bleeding again like I had a heavy period flow again. My doctor recommended that I stop taking it. Within 48 hours, my period stopped, but my bloating and pain remained for the rest of that week. It's been 38 days after my last period, and I have not had my period since then. I am used to taking birth control pills, so I am used to taking it on a regular basis. I never skipped days or tablets. Not sure what to say about this."

For Birth Control "I've been taking this pill for almost 2 years because they stopped making Camila. On Camila, I had no periods. With Heather, I have gotten my period back. Unfortunately, over the past 1.7 years, my period has gone from something that lasted a week to one that trickles out for 2 weeks. And I don't even think of not taking the pill at the same time every day. Even missing it by 1/2 hour caused me to have a period for a week, then my regular period would start. I can say that my boobs hurt and I'd get a breakout of pimples at some point before my period, pretty predictably. My sex drive also waned and I found that I would need to use lube when it comes to sex, whereas I did not have that problem before. I'm now considering another pill since my pimples seem to be becoming more severe (relative to not having pimples in the past) and are staying with me longer. I'm tired of periods lasting 2 weeks! I gave it a good amount of time, it just doesn't seem to be working for me."

For Birth Control "I was switched suddenly to this because my pharmacist was all out of the one I had usually used, which was just plain norethindrone. This was a big mistake. A month after starting on this, I had crazy mood swings, bad depression, and horrible painful acne that I’ve never had in my life. I used to have clear skin, and this ruined my skin, now I have scars. In the first year, I had painful heavy bleeding during periods, which were irregular. I just thought it was my makeup I needed to change or needed better skincare products...nothing worked! I decided to stop taking it to see if everything would improve, and I went off it for a month. WOW! My skin started to clear, and I felt more sane. It also stopped my period for a while. But I would say this did no good for me, and I do not wish to be on this again."

For Birth Control "I was switched to Heather because of my headaches. Yes, it took the headaches away, but my skin is ruined. I’ve never experienced acne, and since I’ve been on this pill, my skin has gone downhill. Very sad and depressing."

For Birth Control "I switched to progesterone only for high blood pressure, high cortisol, low sex drive, inability to lose weight, and migraines. For the first 8 months or so of taking this, it was amazing, and a lot of my chronic issues improved. I was finally able to lose weight and no longer had daily migraines. BP and cortisol levels also dropped. Unfortunately, my hair started thinning, and initially, I related it to stress. That was until it got significantly worse, and I realized I had like half the hair I used to. I’m pretty certain this pill is why, which is a bummer since otherwise, it was going well. I also started getting periods again that were long and painful after not having one for a year on this pill. I’m switching to a different progesterone-only pill that supposedly has less of an effect on androgens to see if my hair loss stops. I personally would not recommend it because the hair loss thing seems to be fairly common."

For Birth Control "I’ve been using Heather for birth control for almost a year. Periods are mostly gone. I’ve only experienced a bit of spotting if I take the pill an hour or two after the time I’m supposed to take it (you have to take it every day at the same time to make it more effective in preventing pregnancy). I suffer from chronic migraines, and I’ve noticed a big difference in the occurrence and duration of my migraine episodes (less migraines, they last less). Also, I have varicose veins, and they’re less problematic to me now that I use the mini pill."

For Birth Control "My 4th baby just turned 5 months old, and I've been taking the mini-pill since my 6-week postpartum checkup, prescribed to me due to breastfeeding (estrogen can affect milk supply), and I have absolutely zero complaints. I actually had a period at 4 weeks and 8 weeks postpartum and haven't had another since - and I can't say if that's solely because of the pill or if breastfeeding has played a part as well. I have no side effects whatsoever that I could attribute to this birth control. No acne, no spotting, no weight gain, no nausea... nothing. I set an alarm on my phone and take it at the exact same time every single day!"

For Birth Control "This pill did its job of protecting me, a 33-year-old overweight female. However, it caused horrible mood swings, weight gain, and anxiety. My breasts were always tender, and it did alter my sex drive."

For Birth Control "This birth control caused my hair to fall out in clumps in the shower, so much so that I had to get a shorter haircut, and I’ve always had hair to the middle of my back, and my hair is thick, or was until I started taking this. My skin got out of control, oily, and I got awful cystic acne on my jawline and neck, places I never had acne before. The hot flashes were daily, and night sweats were terrible nightly. Back to the acne, I was a greasy mess, and no skincare regimen would help it. I had to stop birth control for a few years for my skin to heal, and yet I still have scars and marks from this medication. I am now on Slynd, hoping it will work for me. Heather is the WORST BC EVER!"

For Birth Control "I have really enjoyed being on Heather. It has made my cramps less painful and my periods shorter. I think it is pretty easy to use. I still get a period every 35-40 days, which is a lot nicer than my 20-25 day cycle before. I have had some weight loss and acne, but other than that, I haven't had many other side effects. It has also stabilized my moods during PMS."

For Birth Control "I didn’t do well on this birth control. I was on this certain brand because I just had my son and am currently breastfeeding. I have gained so much weight that I initially lost after delivery and the first couple of weeks of breastfeeding. I suffered severe depression and mood swings. I had periods longer than the normal 7 days. I honestly had more period days than break days throughout the month. So glad to be trying something else now. Just beware and talk to your doctor if you notice anything."

For Birth Control "So I’ve been taking Heather for about 2 years, and my experience has been mostly positive. I am switching to a combo pill just because I’m having trouble remembering to take it at the same time. The first two months were miserable, I had severe nausea and headaches constantly, and I was incredibly irritable. It likely also made my acne worse, but it has since cleared up (after a few rounds of tretinoin). After my body adjusted, though, it was a completely fine pill. I’ve never been pregnant, however, my cycles are pretty irregular. Not a bad pill, but probably not the best one on the market."

For Birth Control "I was put on Heather for migraines (with aura), and within 30 minutes, I was feeling hot flashes, my face was tingling, I got all shaky, my pulse was racing, and I passed out. I also got very nauseated and couldn't keep anything up or down. My doctor said it was definitely not normal and told me to stop the pill immediately. I also had a hysterectomy in 2019, so I have no uterus, so I know my migraines are not hormone-related as I have 15-25 migraines a month."

For Birth Control "I am 22 years old, had been on a combo pill for 10 years because of dysmenorrhea/acne and have had good experiences for the most part. I have migraines with aura, so I had to switch to a progestin-only pill and was put on this one. Since starting this pill ~three months ago, I have had my period for eight out of the eleven weeks. And it has been heavy the whole entire time. The cramps I am experiencing are the same ones that put me on the pill in the first place when I was 12. Without changing diet, workouts, medications, stress level, my acne is worse than it has ever been; it is cystic, painful, my face is scarred and inflamed. I have ballooned with water weight and am so bloated because you guessed it, I am still on my period. My hormones are out of control. I have never experienced mood swings, but now I cry at everything and am so irritable. Also, the fact that this birth control is only ~60% effective in preventing pregnancy...??? Pull-out is 78%. I wish I could rate lower."

For Birth Control "It was awful. My face broke out with deep cystic acne for 2.5 weeks before I decided to stop it. If you’re prone to breakouts (which I am and was in Accutane 3 times to finally get rid of it), do not get progesterone-only birth control. My skin was fine on the Mirena IUD, though."

For Birth Control "I've been on birth control since I was 15, now 26. First, I was on the regular combo pill. It regulated my periods, but I had migraines so bad, I was actually diagnosed with a migraine disorder. Later, I started the 3-month packs, where I only had a period every 3 months. Loved it, but still, migraines. When I was 21, I started the Depo shot. I took that until I was about 23/24. I loved not having a period, no migraines, and I loved the weight gain it gave me. But my doctor tested my hormones and they were borderline menopause levels. I was having major hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, etc. Then, I was put back on the combo pill, and that's when the migraines came back. Figured out it was that pill causing them. Then, I tried the mini pill. And BOY, I have never felt better taking birth control. Before this one, I had thought about getting off of it completely. I've been on this pill for 2 years and have no migraines, no periods (with the occasional spotting), no mood swings, no PMS! And no pregnancy!"

For Birth Control "This is an awful birth control. I’ve taken it for about 5 months. Well, I’m not pregnant, but I get my period every single week for a few days for 2 months now. It has flared my acne on my legs. It has my emotions whacked out as well! That was my experience with this pill."

For Birth Control "Wish I would have looked up the reviews before getting on this. Started it as I was still breastfeeding at the time. My period the first month was very heavy, 5 days at a time, 2 weeks apart. My skin started to break out, and I’ve been slowly losing hair, it comes out in handfuls. Took almost 2 full packs but am stopping immediately."

For Birth Control "When I took this after having a baby to prevent myself from losing my milk production, within 2 days I was bleeding as heavily as I was the first week I bled after having the baby. This went on for 2+ weeks. I called my doctor, and he said I was probably having an adverse reaction to the pill. I went off of it, and within 2 days, the bleeding stopped completely. I went on the birth control I was on before I was pregnant, and I have had no bleeding issues at all since."

For Birth Control "I've never had a good experience with birth control until I tried Heather. I used to get painful periods to the point where medication didn't work and I couldn't get out of bed. I did experience spotting and hair loss the first 3 months, but that's it. My hair has grown back longer and healthier than ever, and I never get a period or any spotting at all. I refuse to get off this pill, it has been amazing!"
