Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I’m on day 5 of a 7-day course for a UTI. This medication has had horrible side effects for me. Within hours of taking the first dose, I had nausea. I took it exactly as directed, with food. The next couple of days, I didn’t have any other issues, and today I’ve started having nausea, vomiting, and shortness of breath after taking my morning dose. I’m going to try and tough it out since I only have 2 days left, but I’ll try to avoid this medication from now on."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I really believed I was going to die. Within hours of the first dose, I was being rushed to the ER. Horrible chest pain, so bad that I passed out. Only to wake to dizziness, nausea, and uncontrollable diarrhea. I literally vomited from dizziness every time I tried to open my eyes. I honestly believe this medication should be removed from the market. If I had managed to take another dose, I believe I would have had a major cardiac event."

Nitrofurantoin for Bladder Infection "I had gone to the ER in crippling pain, I could hardly walk, my UTI was so bad. I was prescribed Macrobid, and after the first dose, I had some nausea and had vomited a couple of times due to not eating first. I started taking it right after a meal, and after the third dose, my pain was gone, my urine went back to a normal color with no terrible odor. I’m allergic to almost every antibiotic I’ve ever taken since I was little, but I had little to no reaction with this one. It was overall a good experience and would be happy to take it again if needed."

For Bladder Infection "I had a UTI right after the holidays. I thought too much sugar maybe was a contributor. I was given nitrofurantoin, which is Macrobid, is what they told me. I was supposed to take it for 3 days at 1 tablet twice a day. I brought it home, and I was scared to take it because I hate antibiotics. I took it for two days, on the third day, my husband rushed me to the Emergency Dept. I got checked for everything. The ER doctor said that my dizziness, vomiting, fatigue, eye pain, really swollen nodes, light sensitivity, and killer migraine were side effects of this medicine! I was sick for five days after praying that I wouldn't die. When I read it can make you go blind suddenly, that was it. NO MDs for me, I only go to a Chinese medicine/naturopathic doctor. End of story."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "Started Macrobid 3-day course for a UTI on Tuesday morning. Fine for the first 2 days, seemed to be working, though I did notice that my urine had turned neon yellow, like Mountain Dew. Woke up at 6 am on Thursday feeling nauseated and anxious. Severe diarrhea began, closely followed by vomiting. I was shaken up and confused, I have never before suffered side effects from any other antibiotics. Stopped taking them immediately. Never touching those pills again."

For Bladder Infection "Had a mild UTI and was prescribed this drug. I had no problem with the first dose and was feeling better by the second dose. I took both with food. Shortly after the second, I was feeling dizzy and unwell. Within a few hours, I was severely nauseous and vomited. I looked up side effects and read these reviews. Although the drug did work quickly, I chose to call my urgent care doctor and she prescribed a different drug. Hope that one gets rid of the problem with fewer side effects."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took two tablets on the first day, all fine. The following day, I woke feeling extremely ill, feeling sick, then being sick violently for hours to the point of vomiting bile for several hours. It was a warm day, and I was wrapped up in bed with blankets and thick socks as I was shivering and freezing cold, however, I felt red hot. I couldn't get out of bed for 24 hours, got up for one hour, and that was a struggle. Pounding headache where I resorted to taking something for it, which I never take medication. I felt dizzy within 10 hours of taking the last pill. Sickness subsided, but I felt so weak and burning hot. I stopped taking this antibiotic, never again going to the doctors to tell them not to give me this again. It was awful."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This nitrofurantoin is the worst medicine I have ever taken. It has left me with hives, rash, extreme itching that started with my hands, then moved to my chest and other parts of my body, including my vagina. I have been continually nauseous and light vomiting. Horrible, I would definitely take something else!"

For Bladder Infection "I have been hospitalized for getting these UTIs and kidney infections together before, so I was extra careful to catch it early this time. The first dose made me have violent vomiting and diarrhea, as well as headaches, though vomiting and headaches are expected with a kidney infection. HOWEVER, do NOT stop taking your medication without the doctor's consent. Please, these UTIs can progress into sepsis so easily. I got bad vomiting and diarrhea because I didn't eat enough. I'm on day 2, dose 2, and feel so much better already, managing to stomach food with my meds now. Please, if your side effects are too much for you, TELL YOUR DOCTOR. They can change antibiotics or help you avoid side effects. Please stay safe and NEVER simply stop taking medication. Your life isn't worth the risk. If in doubt, TELL a medical professional."

For Bladder Infection "I have been on a number of antibiotics for recurrent UTIs (young, otherwise healthy). Previously had Macrobid with no side effects whatsoever. This most recent time, however, was an entirely different story. I had nausea and chills that would come and go (miserable!), making me think I felt better only to return. I could barely eat anything, only eating small amounts of toast, banana, yogurt, and soups. I vomited once or twice a day for 3/4 days. Still have one day left. I also had generalized muscle achiness in my back and neck. This was my worst experience ever with a drug that previously worked perfectly!"

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "Was diagnosed with a UTI and was prescribed Macrobid. Day 1, I was super tired but didn't pay any mind to it. Second day, 2nd dose, it's like I got run over millions of times. Super tired, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dizzy, chills, night sweats, loss of appetite, crazy hell headaches. I just continued to take it, thinking it was my UTI. After day 3, dose 5, I knew it was the medicine, so I had to stop it. Felt so bad and just couldn't do anything. Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I read one comment stating that symptoms while taking this med were due to the UTI itself. I can tell you from hard experience that this med has side effects, maybe not for all, but certainly for me. This has been my third and last bout with this med. I was encouraged to take it twice and had the same symptoms - severe headache, body aches, chills, nausea and vomiting, and diarrhea. The second time, I reported this and was switched to Bactrim, which I have never had a problem with. This time, I went to a doc in the box and Macrobid was prescribed again because it was the only med not to interact with my other meds. Same problems occurred. For Urinary Tract Infection "Omg, these tablets have completely wrote me off!! I have never felt so poorly - I suffer from UTIs and kidney infections frequently, and this is the first time I've taken this antibiotic. After taking the second dose, I woke up feeling sick and was then vomiting aggressively for hours. My stomach feels like it's in bits, and my head feels as if it's going to fall off at any given moment - haven't left my bed all day!! Never had this issue before. Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I rarely suffer side effects from medication, but Macrobid has been a hard route, as following the 1st dose, I began suffering extreme nausea, gas, stomach pain, and anxiety. I pushed forward through dose 4, when I decided on Day 3 to skip all medication, but did take only 1 dose of Macrobid with something to eat late in the evening, hoping to bypass nausea. For Urinary Tract Infection "I started taking this medicine January 2nd, and it’s now January 4th, and I’m absolutely over it. I’m prescribed to take it for a week, but I just can’t deal with the side effects. My main issue is vomiting. I could be perfectly fine, then hours later, I’m throwing up. It’s given me a fever, chills, bad fatigue, and of course, vomiting. It’s helped with the UTI tremendously. That I will agree. But the other side effects are just too horrible. For Urinary Tract Infection "Worst drug experience ever.
