Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "After taking 2 doses, I got so sick. Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and extreme fatigue, and the worst brain fog in my life. I had to stop, but my doctor then said the next best thing is Cipro. Oh my goodness! Cipro is the worst. Ruptured tendons? I think no! So, it was a fight to get her to prescribe Bactrim! Sad to say doctors listen to the drug salespeople rather than reading this review space!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "After taking my first tablet of Nitrofurantoin for a UTI, I began vomiting and couldn't even keep water down. After the first day, I felt so unwell and spent 2 days in bed with a fever and shaking, and my whole body was in pain. I then started with a chronic headache and a tight chest with a cough. I was utterly exhausted and felt so unwell. I've now got tingling in my fingers. I've never reacted to any antibiotic like this one and urge anyone not to take it."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "This is the worst medicine ever. I’m currently on this medicine for the rest of my pregnancy because of my constant UTI and kidney infections. First off, it makes you extremely nauseous all day. Last night, it caused me to go into a panic attack, and I was hyperventilating so much that I barely made it to the bathroom to throw up because I was so lightheaded, with heart palpitations and the shakes. I had to pull over from taking my daughter to school because I was throwing up vigorously. Asking my doc to get off this."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed this medication, and by day 2 I was nauseous, vomiting (until there was nothing but green bile coming up), diarrhea, body aches, chills, sweats, and very weak and extremely cold. I have had UTIs in the past, but this was the first time I have taken this antibiotic. I had to stop taking it for my own health. I felt like I was going to die if I took one more dose of this stuff. I wouldn't say the pill is horrible, but it is not for me. I need another type of antibiotic."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This drug had me so sick, I was in bed for 7 days. I was vomiting, had diarrhea, headaches, extremely weak to the point I actually fell down. I didn't even have the strength to roll over in bed, my daughter had to help me. Of the fourteen tablets I was given, I managed to take only five. And with each one, I got worse until my daughter finally realized it was this medicine."

For Urinary Tract Infection "This drug has ruined my life. Going on one week of it in my system, I can't get out from the bed. I'm weak, dizzy, throwing up, my hands and feet are numb. I've been to the ER once, and they took me off of it. Three days now clear of the drug, and the symptoms are worse than when I was on it. Do not take this! If you have been prescribed it, stop using it immediately, and of course discuss this with your prescriber!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Never taking this again. Day 2 of taking this antibiotic for UTI, and I have never felt so ill. Constant feeling of vomiting, bloating, and loss of appetite. I would rather have UTI than these symptoms. Horrible!"

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I went to urgent care to get medication for UTI, and the doctor prescribed Macrobid. I took the first pill around lunch and felt totally fine, and took the second after dinner. I woke up the next morning and had terrible nausea, fatigue, and diarrhea. I thought I ate something strange the night before and continued to take my medicine twice a day. The next morning, same deal: fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, and this time, vomiting. It cleared up around the afternoon. My doctor recommends taking a probiotic a few hours before or after taking an antibiotic to lessen the effects of diarrhea and nausea. MAKE SURE you eat and drink plenty of water. It has helped, however, I switched to another antibiotic. If you have a sensitive gut like mine, I would try another antibiotic!"

For Bladder Infection "This medication landed me in the ER twice this week. I developed a fever that went as high as 102.6, shaking chills, the worst headache of my life (they thought it might be meningitis), and body aches and tiredness. Within a few days later, difficulty breathing, tingling hands and feet, and severe abdominal pain led to vomiting. This is not worth what it was prescribed for!!"

For Urinary Tract Infection "Within 24 hours, I started with severe shaking of hands, then entire upper torso, followed by chills (worst I've ever had), vomiting, fever, and severe aches and joint pain. I thought I was having a stroke! I will not take again and have never had a reaction to any meds taken. Always had Cipro or Bactrim with no problems and asked for one of these, but the doctor ordered Keflex. 48 hours later, I'm still very weak, couldn't eat for 24 hours. It was scary."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "Horrible side effects. I had to go to urgent care. I asked for Cipro, usually, 5 will do. My new doctor was out of town, I will never go back. I am so weak with nausea, cramps, vomiting, headache, coughing, and sinus infection with fatigue so bad."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I took this drug nitrofurantoin in Feb 2019 for a UTI. After about 2 doses, I got so ill I ended up in the ER. I spent 3 days hospitalized. The chest pain, neck pain, sob, and fever. I was so very ill. The Dr. seemed to think it was just the infection. It took me several weeks to recover. September 11, 2019, I took it again for a UTI. Same thing again, visit to the ER. Pain, chest pain, neck pain, and fever. Hospital 2 nights, rounds of steroids and antibiotics. Heart rate up and blood sugar up, vomiting. I am planning on a follow-up with my Drs. this week. There is no doubt that this medication caused me pain and so much anxiety. If I had known that this medication was the cause of this reaction, of course I wouldn't have taken it a second time. To say the least, I'm furious, and I wonder if my body will ever recover."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I know this is about nitrofurantoin, but I wanted to talk about the other drug I took before. Last week, I noticed I had a UTI, so I called my GP for an appointment. They tested a sample and said there was some sort of urine infection, so they prescribed me Trimethoprim (which I had taken previously before, a 3-day course). This time, the drug did not work at all, if anything, it made me worse. This also included vomiting, so I called the GP very early this morning and was seen within 2 hours. I told them my symptoms and what had happened, so I sent off a sample, and they prescribed me nitrofurantoin 50mg capsules for 7 days. I've taken 2 doses today (I have 4 pills a day), and I can honestly say it has already started to work."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "WARNING!!! I was hospitalized after taking just two days out of the 5 prescribed of Macrobid (nitrofurantoin). I went to urgent care for a UTI, and after the 5th dose, I began to not be able to catch my breath, and my body felt tingly, and my feet felt bruised. I stopped taking the medication, and about a day later, I could barely breathe, my entire back seized up into the most excruciating pain I've ever felt in my entire life. I could not move my head without a migraine-like headache pulsating in my ears and the top of my head. 5 days later, I am still virtually bedridden, vomiting, no appetite, my body feels like a giant bruise, and my skin tingles and hurts to touch even with clothing. Tread carefully around this stuff, it's not worth the pain AT ALL."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I also was extremely sick taking this medication. Ironically, it happened twice - the first time I was able to stomach the whole dose, but recently I had to stop after the second pill and switch to Bactrim, and then had zero issues. Macrobid left me fatigued, headaches, dizzy, aches, pounding heart, and I even threw up. Felt like the start of the flu, but worse! Will never take again."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed Nitrofurantoin 100 mg for treatment of a urinary tract infection, 4 times daily with food. I started taking them, and after the second tablet, I felt so nauseous that I couldn't move. I continued taking the tablets even though I was aware they were causing the nausea, however, the nausea became so bad I ended up vomiting and being taken to A&E."

Nitrofurantoin for Bladder Infection "I am prone to UTIs and never had a problem with this drug before. Took my 2 doses on the first day, with what I thought was no problem, woke up on day 2 vomiting. Around 11 a.m. I tried a piece of toast and took my 3rd dose with that. I was then okay 'til about 4:30, when I was sick again. I have skipped doses 4 and 5 and am waiting to hear from the doctor about calling in a different prescription."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "Everything was fine until the 3rd day of my 5-day trial on Macrobid. I experienced severe nausea and was very close to vomiting. My body was aching so bad I couldn’t move. Thankfully, after the 3 days, my UTI did part its ways. I won’t ever touch that antibiotic again."

For Bladder Infection "After two doses of this medication, I was nauseated and developed a high fever. After six hours of going from couch to bed to try and seek comfort, I eventually threw up. Stopped the drug immediately, called the doctor and asked for an alternative. Unless you have a constitution of steel, stay away from this drug."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I’ve had a constant headache and nausea that is very similar to a migraine since day one of taking the Macrobid. Cold sweats and dizziness come and go just before the evening dose is due, then the cycle begins again. Dose 3 resulted in severe stomach cramps comparable to food poisoning, paired with nonstop diarrhea. Feel like vomiting but managing to keep the broth I’ve been having down. So far, it’s been a nightmare. I’d rather have a UTI and a raging yeast infection."

Nitrofurantoin for Bladder Infection "I was prescribed Macrobid 100 mg dose every 12 hours for 7 days. I have never been sensitive to antibiotics and can take (amoxicillin, Cipro, penicillin, Z-Pak are fine). But this antibiotic made me miserable. The morning after my first dose, I had a terrible headache that lasted the whole time I was on the drug. I had to take Motrin for the headaches. I was so nauseous I threw up several times, even when I took food with the Macrobid. By the third day, I was so weak I could barely get out of bed. The nausea was severe, I could not eat. I literally forced a piece of bread down when I took the pill. I was sleepy and confused and not even alert enough to do my work. I finally called on the 5th day to ask my doctor to prescribe me something for the horrible nausea, and he told me to stop taking the Macrobid. The only plus of this medicine was that it took my infection away, but I'd never take it again. I'm 5'3" and 125 pounds."

For Urinary Tract Infection "After one day of this medication, I was sicker than I was before I took it. Then it took 24 hours to get out of my system. I recalled the Dr and had the pharmacy put in my records never to give this to me again. This was the worst experience of my life. I had vomiting, diarrhea, and was unable to keep food down, unable to even sleep, and a terrible taste in my mouth."

Nitrofurantoin for Urinary Tract Infection "I have had 3 experiences with Macrodantin, and they have all been bad! I am sure that this drug works very well for those that can tolerate it, but it is not for me! I have had recurring kidney infections all of my life, and the first time I was put on it, I became nauseous, vomited, and felt very ill. This doctor told me that he would not be giving that drug to me again. Several years later, I had a UTI, and my new doctor gave it to me, but it was under another name, so I didn’t make the correlation. Again, fever, chills, nausea, and vomiting. When I researched the medication, I realized it was a generic name for Macrodantin and stopped taking it immediately. This last time, after having been told by my doctor that it was just a coincidence, I tried again! Again, I had the same symptoms as before! I felt miserable for 2 days. I’m off Macrodantin for life!"

For Bladder Infection "Was given nitrofurantoin on Wednesday, and by Friday I was three times sicker than I was when I went to the clinic in the first place. Nausea, gas, diarrhea, vertigo-like symptoms, vomiting. I also had a strange sweat and chills like fever when there was no fever the day I went to the doctor. I followed dosage instructions and took it with food, but this medicine is making me sicker. I decided to stop taking it, and it's been 24 hours since my last dose. I'm just now feeling some relief from the side effects."

For Urinary Tract Infection "Was prescribed this for UTI and started feeling nauseous after the second tablet. By the second day, I was vomiting and struggling to keep even fluids down. Was getting cold sweats and just feeling generally unwell. Went back to the doctor and they changed the antibiotic. Also, the doctor retested urine and the infection was positive. Didn't do a thing for me, just made me feel awful."
