"My life has changed significantly the last few months. I'm feeling totally lost my energy levels and fighting to keep the interest in anything. I started to think that I developed some kind of sickness like anemia or something else. For sure, I decided to investigate and find the root cause. Today, I saw the Bystolic reviews here, and the previous comments are exactly like mine: 'It was effective in lowering my blood pressure from 150/95 down to 128/83 on average. However, this drop came at a tremendous expense to my lifestyle.' I myself have felt very low energy, occasional dizziness, sexual and general lack of interest in anything. My appetite dropped, and I stopped feeling life inside me. So, I decided to see my doctor and stop it."

"It was effective in lowering my blood pressure from 150/95 down to 128/83 on average. However, this drop came at a tremendous expense to my lifestyle. I've felt very low energy, occasional dizziness, headaches, and a general lack of interest in anything. My appetite dropped, and I stopped feeling life inside me. In a nutshell, harmful side effects make this drug ineffective in solving BP problems."

"This was horrible. It did fix my blood pressure, but while on it, I fainted once, and I didn't have the energy to work outside. I'm 38, and it made me feel like an old man. It took several weeks to wean off and another month to feel 90% better. My eye is still twitching after being off of this for a month."

"Fine at 5 mg dose, but when upped to 10 mg, broke out in a severe rash over the whole body."

"I experienced several side effects, including vision change, hoarseness, insomnia, terrible dry mouth, headaches (migraine), to name a few, but my blood pressure did go to normal. I had to try something else."

"63 yr old male with diabetes. I have 8 heart stents, and after the last, had trouble controlling my high blood pressure and pulse, averaging 160/110 with a pulse of 110. I took Bystolic 5 mgs for the first time this afternoon from samples from my doctor. I was feeling better until I noticed someone on this forum mention diabetes. My normally controlled diabetes was 300! I haven't hit this high in over 15 years. Some part may be attributed to the fact that I just got a steroid shot in my back, but 300 is way high for me. My A1C is usually 6.8."

"I have been taking Bystolic for about 3 months now and started to feel my hands and feet become numb. I only take 2.5 mg."

"I am a 59-year-old female, a diabetic. I was on this drug for 3 days, and my glucose went up to 300. I went off immediately, and it took 5 days to get my glucose under control. I would caution any diabetic not to take this drug. Discuss with the doctor before taking."

"Almost one year ago I started taking Bystolic. This past year has been a horrible year for me. I have had sinus surgery, lung rinse, taken every antibiotic known to man, several inhalers, albuterol, Flonase, nasal rinses, Mucinex, Claritin, allergy test, CT scans, breathing test, chest X-rays - you name it, I’ve had it. This congestion coincides with the start of taking Bystolic. Since my doctors are not finding any answers for my condition and meds and tests are not working, I have decided maybe it is the Bystolic and will stop taking it. I am praying and hoping this will finally get me back to a normal life."

"Tried Bystolic yesterday for my BP. Took again today. Should not have, but my other BP meds had given me so much trouble I had to quit taking them. Last night my pulse went down to 48. Today, off and on, up and having dizzy spells, panic attacks. It seems that I stacked it up onto medications that had been doing that and it accentuated them. It seems to me, unless you have a high pulse rate, that these beta blockers are not good medications to use."

"I was started on 5mg Bystolic 4 months ago. It took me to a very dark place. So tired I couldn't function, no concentration, legs and shoulders hurt, don't care about nothing or no one. It did slow down my racing heart. I have been borderline diabetic for 5 years but last test showed I have crossed the line, my doctor said the Bystolic probably pushed me over the line. It can mess with your sugar level. Wish he had told me that before I took it. He cut me back to 2.5mg. My energy came back some but I still have no motivation. My spark is gone. Still have pain in legs, shoulders, and neck. The simplest of tasks is overwhelming. My doctor is determined to keep me on it. He thinks all my symptoms are just in my head. I guess my A1c can be made up in my head. He wants me to try depression medicine but I decline. I was happy and motivated before I started this mess. I just want to feel good again, not blah all the time."

"I take amlodipine, irbesartan, and Bystolic for high blood pressure. Amlodipine is the most effective of the three at a maximum suggested dose of 10 mg daily. It seems like Bystolic is least effective (nebivolol). My heart rate does not require lowering, so the Bystolic may be unnecessary. I use 300 mg of irbesartan daily, the maximum dose."

"I tried Bystolic when it first came on the market, and after several days, experienced what I believe a heart attack would feel like. Had the same issue with two other beta blockers. Doc made the choice to stay away from the beta blocker class, but at 33 my body said something was wrong. After many tests and docs, I learned I had tachy-Brady syndrome. My blood pressure on five meds was high, and my pulse was climbing, averaging 120. The option I was given was surgery or medication, so I tried a slight dose of 2.5 mg of Bystolic, and as they warned me, it dropped my pulse so much I couldn't function. But half of that dose has lowered my heart rate enough to get me into the safe zone, and my blood pressure is slightly lower with no side effects."

"I have gained 12 lbs in a month! My feet/hands swell so badly that I take a water pill. I am so fatigued... no energy, get out of breath, and have had several migraines lately... which is not normal for me. My pulse is low all the time and blood pressure is 135/85. I was on Hyzaar for years, and it worked great."

"Within 10 days of beginning to take Bystolic 10 mg, I experienced severely swollen ankles and had to stop taking it. I am now back on Metoprolol 100 mg, which works fine with no side effects."

"I started Bystolic in October of 2011 after using five other medicines over the past two and a half years with drastic side effects and little relief. I was on Cardizem for a week when they switched me to a month's supply of 5 mg Bystolic. It was the answer I had hoped for. My blood pressure was at a normal level, with no palpitations. About week three, they started-the side effects. The first was swelling in the legs, ankles, and hands. Then came the headaches, joint pains, and difficulty breathing. By week four, my blood pressure rose again, the palpitations began again, and the side effects worsened. I went back to Atenolol, figuring that if I was going to have palpitations, the side effects were less painful than the discomfort of the palpitations."

"Since switching to Bystolic from atenolol, I have experienced my arms falling asleep at night and lightheadedness. Coreg CR made me cloudy in thinking, felt like a rubber band was around my chest, and I didn't feel as calm as when I was taking atenolol. I switched from atenolol to Coreg CR so I could overcome the wall I would hit while pushing cardio exercise to the limit. I felt great every day, all day long on atenolol."

"Started on 20 mg Bystolic after a bout of tachycardia. Had been taking diltiazem 360 mg. Felt dizzy, and BP fell too low on 20 mg, so lowered to 10 mg a day. Worked pretty well for 6 months, but I have recently begun exercising routinely and have lost about 20 pounds (235 down to 214 this morning). Now my HR has slowed to under 50 bpm, and I feel light-headed most of the time. Going to titrate down to 5 mg over the next few days and see if that helps. Doctor's appointment in another week. Thanks for all the comments. Very helpful."

"I’ve been taking Bystolic since 8-18. My pulse rate dropped to 45 and blood pressure to 100/20. All my symptoms completely went away. No feeling my heart flutters, no chest heaviness. Now all that is great, but immediately I stopped caring for anyone or anything. All I want to do is sleep, although I take this drug at bedtime. As long as everyone leaves me alone, I feel great, but I lose my temper very quickly. I can’t exercise, I have no energy. If I try to do anything active, I can’t breathe. The loss of energy and motivation is ruining my life. Calling my doctor tomorrow."

"I have been on this medicine for a year now. I have recently realized (from seeing a new doctor) that I should not have been put on this medication. I have to see a cardiologist to get off of Bystolic 10!? Really!? I wish I knew that before I was prescribed this. It's never really kept my blood pressure in check 100%....so I wanted to stop taking it. But when my doctor said I had to see a specialist, I was annoyed. I have come to learn that this medication is why I have put on so much weight, feel so tired, deal with numb hands."

"I am ashamed to admit I have taken this drug for over a year because I have to be pretty stupid to allow a drug to take so much living away from me. I used to ride my horse, do my own construction work, and just enjoy life! Now, I know what depression is. I struggle to sleep ten hours a week! I have very little functioning memory. I am so angry. If you happen to be at a doctor appointment when one of the drug reps is hauling in the free food and free drug samples, you'll wonder by her attire just what she is selling. Yes, I told my doctor over and over about the problems and her answer is more drugs! Anti-depressant, sleeping pill, and the list goes on. I tried to get myself off of it but can't because of rebound."
