"I have been sick ever since I have taken this medication, 20 mg. Memory loss, jitters, anxiety, panic attacks, cold chills... this has been a complete nightmare. After reading the reviews above, maybe I can get some help - every doctor I have been to kept saying maybe it's depression... what are you depressed about? I am not depressed for crying out loud. This is another failed medication that's causing folks to become sick. I have been carted off the road twice from this medication because of anxiety from these pills. My life has been a living hell."

"I almost died from this drug. My physician did not believe me because I am a woman. I took myself off of it and got well, but it has caused some permanent damage to my vision, and I am left with a persistent tremor in my right hand."

"Took for 6 months, messed up my heart, couldn't control my BP, dropped my heart rate very low. I played handball, which is a very aggressive sport. I could not sweat, but it made my lower heart chambers thicken. I think I have some heart problem, gonna go to doc soon. No history of family heart disease, only had HBP. No side effects until I started taking Bystolic: fainting, hard time breathing. Went to ER 4 times - he didn't want me to come off. He is an idiot."

"Bystolic did not help lower my blood pressure as my other blood pressure medicine just recently had to be doubled. I have taken the medicine for 10 months, and at my last doctor's appointment, I realized I have gained 22 pounds in the last 10 months without any changes to diet or activity level. Also, I have felt disconnected from my life and have had absolutely no sex drive. This medicine is not for me. I paid $50 a month for a drug that caused me to gain 22 pounds that I now have to lose."

"I was switched yesterday to Bystolic 2.5 mg, and my doctor said I could take it at any time of day, either with or without food. Within 30 minutes of taking the smallest dose, I felt the extreme intoxication feeling another reviewer felt: dizzy and foggy-headed. I woke up in the middle of the night with my arms tingling and numb several times. On Day 2, I'm sitting in my office shaking my arms so they have some sensation to type, my feet are numb, and my tongue feels tingly. I have had no appetite at all but forced myself to eat some almonds for protein. I'm not overweight or underweight or nauseated. I just don't want to eat. I cannot gather a thought long enough to speak it from my tingling mouth. THERE WILL NOT BE A DAY 3!!!"

"My doctor started me on this. The very first pill I took, I experienced what can only be described as extreme intoxication. My speech slurred, I fell and stumbled, experienced double vision, and eventually either passed out or went into a deep sleep. I have not taken any other medications, so this was not an interaction. Never again, folks. I'm glad it works for some people, but that was one of the scariest medication side effects I ever experienced."

"After a few decades of high blood pressure, my new doctor switched me to Bystolic. Two days later, I was within normal range for the first time. I absolutely love the results of this med. I have had very vivid dreams, insomnia, and tiredness during the day. I was willing to deal with that. Here's the problem... I started with a 'coupon,' which was to make my maximum monthly cost $30. I filled the prescription in April, and it cost $30, but in May, it was $65. The pharmacy was told that the coupon 'changed' May 1. I called the coupon administration office and was told the same thing. However, the coupon says right on the back that it is valid until December 31. I feel I was deceived! I have asked my doc to switch me to something else."

"I was prescribed this medication for high blood pressure. It DID lower my blood pressure, and for about 6 weeks, I had almost no adverse reaction. I was prescribed 10 mg, but only took 5 mg because I am sensitive to medicines and anesthetics. Vivid dreams, insomnia, sleepiness during the day were tolerable, but I soon developed double vision, pain in my upper body, a rash, and increasing weakness and balance problems. I weaned myself off slowly--my last dose was in February 2014--I still have tremors, difficulty walking, and extreme weakness. I cannot recommend Bystolic."

"I'm definitely sensitive to BP medicine. I am 40 years old, 6'3'' and physically fit. I workout almost every day (run, cycle, lift weights). Unfortunately, I have Isolated Systolic Hypertension (the systolic runs high but the diastolic is normal). My BP varies from 140/75 to 165/80. I have tried just about every medication for BP on the market, with either no success or with side effects I could not tolerate. With Bystolic, it has failed, even at doses of 20mg, to get my systolic BP controlled. The real problem for me is that it has 100% eliminated ANY sexual desire. I'm not talking about erectile dysfunction, I mean it makes me not even care about it. It also has the sticky throat feeling where you need to clear it constantly. Back to square one."

"Bystolic 5 mg for hypertension has made me extremely sleepy, with considerable fatigue. I want to lay down all the time. I also have occasional diarrhea, headaches, and have a lot of trouble with dizziness. It has not lowered my blood pressure, but I am afraid of more side effects if I take a stronger dose. I am tired, tired, tired all the time."

"Took Bystolic 5mg for a month. At first, it seemed to be okay. I liked it because it did not make me dizzy, but by the third week, I started getting side effects. First off, I was so tired and had no energy, thought it was me, but no, it was Bystolic. Then my shoulder joints started aching and kind of running down to my wrist in both arms. Not too bad, but still there, and the last straw for me was when my left arm started to tingle on the outside of my forearm. Well, I started cutting them in half, so now I was taking 2.5 mg for the last week, and it made no difference. Every time I took the pill, hours later my arm would start tingling along with the other side effects. Also, another thing, it made me gain ten pounds in a month's time, also bloating."

"I am presently taking Ziac (beta blocker with Dyazide) for high blood pressure. Was going to try this but decided after reading reviews to stick to what I am on and try to lose weight. They all have side effects - I have gone through 10 drugs - been on this 10 years. Good luck to all."

"While on Bystolic, my feet and arms were numb. My blood sugars became severely elevated from 112 glucose up to 249. This blood pressure pill is not a good choice for my diabetic condition. I was only on Bystolic for one week, and now, eight weeks later, I am still suffering from foot and heel pain. However, going back on Vasotec, my blood sugars have dropped back down to 112."

"I took Bystolic for about 7 months, but had to discontinue because of side effects. One of the many side effects I suffered was severe anxiety. I was only able to take 2.5 mg, and my blood pressure was not controlled."

"Not worth the side effects. Works great for lowering heart rate, BP, and anxiety. Causes horrible weight gain that is impossible to lose while taking the medicine. Also causes shortness of breath, wheezing, and chest pains, to the point I now use an inhaler. Severe depression. I never had before. Numbness in hands, water retention, especially in ankles, raised cholesterol, extreme fatigue and lack of motivation, and night sweats. Hoping to come off it soon."

"I have never written a review before, but for me personally, Bystolic was the worst thing to happen for me. I know everyone is different. So I was only on Bystolic for 2 weeks, and I absolutely could not push past the side effects. Terrible insomnia, like not just waking up, like I physically couldn’t sleep, panic attacks, which I’m not prone to, weird body pains. Did Bystolic lower my numbers? Absolutely. However, I was basically bed-ridden in my side effects."

"I was put on Bystolic 10 mg 6 days ago. So far, my BP has gone up, as high as 179/107, and heart rate has dropped to 40. Chest pain, arm pain, just like having a heart attack, confusion, swelling, and unable to sleep. I took myself off the stuff today, there is no way I will take any more. I was much better before being prescribed Bystolic."

"Was experiencing anxiety because adult son was imprisoned. BP would spike to 160/100. Tried 2.5 mg Bystolic for 30 days and seemed to work, although towards the end of the period, experienced mild dizziness and fatigue and somewhat out of breath. Continued for another 20 days and had branch retinal vein occlusion with seepage. Weaned off over 10 days and my eye feels better. Feel all better. My BP off drugs now is running around 124/80. Thinking maybe low dose Lisinopril for my eye. Wonder if Bystolic caused my eye problem. There are some reports of ocular conjunctival hemorrhage with Bystolic?"

"Was using Lisinopril/HCTZ 20/12.5 for 7 years with excellent results. BP usually 120/70. Occasional dips in hot weather, and adjusted dosage down. New MD was adamant about trying 10 mg Bystolic for a year. BP control was erratic and always high, usually 145/90, heart rate fell to 45 consistently. Low energy, leg swelling, face swelling, irritability, insomnia. Switched back and suddenly feel 10 years younger. Bystolic was not a good choice for me."

"(20 days of pure hell)!! My doctor added Bystolic 10 mg (gave me 3 weeks samples) to help lower my heart rate and blood pressure... I was on Caduet 10 mg and hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg for over 10 years, but recently my bp was not being stable. The 1st day on Bystolic, I experienced cold legs, and my bp was 132/84, better than my 142/90... My short time on Bystolic, I started having vivid, horrific dreams and was waking up with cold sweat and high bp of 158/98... During the 1st week, I also lost about 2 seconds of consciousness and became very lightheaded and foggy-minded, which remained until I demanded my Dr. to take me off of Bystolic, which he didn't want to do."

"I am 23 and 123 pounds and I only take 2.5 mg of Bystolic. Even with such a low dose I have side effects! Insomnia all the time, low energy, I've fainted and often get dizzy, low sex drive, my feet and hands go numb. I have always been a very energetic person, now I feel like I'm too tired to do anything! I've tried everything from working out to extreme healthy eating and I can't get off of it. This medicine is terrible."

"This drug was a nightmare for me. I unfortunately had B12 deficiency at the same time, so it took a longish time to figure this drug was murdering me in addition to my troubles with B12. It did keep my BP very low, but... it made my legs feel almost lame, and if I tried to walk even remotely fast, I'd feel like I was going to pass out. It also cranked my A1C way up. The worst 6 months of my life, pretty much. A week after coming off it, I felt reborn."
