"I am a 69-year-old female. I started having my first bouts of SVT in my early 20s. (I didn't know at that time that I had SVT.) In my late 30s or early 40s, I discovered that I cannot tolerate caffeine - in any amount - and that's what was causing the episodes of SVT. So I just stopped consuming anything with caffeine in it. Was fine for years. Fast forward to my early 60s and being post-menopausal. Started experiencing mild anxiety and intermittent episodes of SVT for the last 5 to 7 years. In March of this year (2024), I wound up in the ER with SVT and a really high heart rate (185). Was prescribed Metoprolol Tartrate, 25 mg twice a day. But that dose made me so tired I couldn't function, and I had vertigo. I experimented with the dosing on my own. Currently, I take 12.5 mg PER DAY. I cut a 25 mg pill into quarters and take 1/4 pill twice a day. Works great. No more SVT."

For High Blood Pressure "I am taking this for high BP. I take 25 mg, split into morning and night. I am so sick with nonstop coughing, a runny nose, feels like my face is full, and my lips are swollen, burning, and red. I took a COVID test even though I'm vaccinated, and it was negative. That's how sick I feel. I felt the same on Losartan, and the doctor took me off that one. I don't know what to do next. Terrible drug for me. It's controlled my BP, but the side effects are awful for me."

"I have been taking 40 mg telmisartan at night for HBP. I also take a baby aspirin and a statin for coronary artery disease and 10 mg omeprazole for Barrett's. I began experiencing frequent PVCs, and my blood pressure was still too high, so my cardiologist added 25 mg metoprolol tartrate in the morning. He subsequently added a half tablet of metoprolol at night, which helped the HBP but did not completely end the arrhythmia. Over 30 years ago, I was diagnosed with a chronic form of adult asthma. In 2018, a pulmonary specialist replaced Symbicort (two puffs twice a day) with generic Singulair, which I also stopped taking. However, for the past month, I have been experiencing a wheezing cough, runny nose, and tightness in my chest suggesting my asthma is active. I will be checking with my cardiologist and pulmonary specialist to see if the metoprolol should be replaced since the arrhythmia has returned and use of a beta-blocker may be contraindicated for asthma patients."

For Heart Attack "Greetings, I have been on Metoprolol Tartrate for years now for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), and I love it. They have 'tried' me on 'others,' but besides that 'low' feeling, it's okay. I just think they need to tailor and (or) tweak my dose, 50 mg's x 2 a day, but besides that I'm sold!"

For High Blood Pressure "In Nov. 2019, I had a single bypass, and my aortic valve was replaced. Due to my high blood pressure, I was put on metoprolol 25 mg twice daily. I also had a 'small' stroke a few days after surgery. I recovered, after therapy. Then, I noticed some side effects. It felt like I was walking in molasses. Very sluggish, low energy. Then, ED got so bad I had no sexual function! Then, in May, I was mowing the lawn and stepped off the drive onto uneven ground and fell. I was holding the grass catcher and it pinched my finger. My daughter (a nursing student) thought I had suffered some severe problem and 'insisted' I go to the ER. During their examination, they asked me if anyone had ever told me I had a low heart rate. I said, 'no,' my pulse has always been normal. In May, I was told to only take 1/2 a tablet twice a day and see my cardiologist. I just saw him, and he said there are better meds if I need one. My BP is now normal."

For Heart Attack "I was started on Metoprolol Tartrate for inappropriate sinus tachycardia and long QT syndrome. At first, I was on 25 once a day. That did nothing. Increased to 25 mg twice a day. Still did nothing. Was increased to 100 mg twice a day, and it brought my heart rate down but not a lot, and I was still having a lot of symptoms. My usual resting without the medication is 130 bpm, and when I exercise, it gets as high as 220 bpm. I get palpitations, SOB, fainting, etc. My most recent cardiac monitoring indicated needing to increase my dose, so I was increased to 150 mg twice a day. My resting rate is on average 86 bpm now, and they don't want to increase the Metoprolol anymore, so they're adding Ivabradine to the Metoprolol. It's a good med, and it has lowered my heart rate and lowered symptoms, just not enough for me to be comfortable."

"Had heart stopped, my vitals were BP 203/197 and heart rate was 253 and climbing. They used Adenocard! They put me on Metoprolol Tartrate. Heart has been stopped 4 times. Had ablation on 4/22/05. Have small runs, but not bad. Now I had Norwalk virus a month ago. It stressed my heart, now the Metoprolol won't control my heart anymore! Please help! Any information, please! Thanks."

"Prescribed by cardiologist, 25 mg twice daily for PVC, PAC, tachycardia. Decided to self-dose as my heart rate would go too low, especially during sleep into high 30s, low 40s. Cut 25 mg into 12.5 dose and took only as needed when a heart rate stayed elevated for a prolonged period of time. Some edema in one lower leg. Continuing to self-dose but would like to get off this drug."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on 50 mg of Metoprolol tartrate 2x a day for 10 years, and it controls my afib pretty well. The last month, I've had 2 episodes, each lasting 3 days, which I've never had, an episode last this long bumped up dosage to 75 mg, which doctors have told me it's okay to do if I'm in afib. In the past, this has gotten my heart back in rhythm, but it doesn't seem to have the same effect these last two episodes. Not sure what's putting me in afib, going to see the doctor this week."

For Heart Attack "After years of heavy drinking finally caught up with me. I was blue-lighted to the hospital with irregular heartbeat, cold shivers, & dizziness. Prescribed Metoprolol 50mg, 1 morning & 1 nighttime, which kept me calm but brought blood pressure & heart rate to 100/65 & 49 bpm. Changed dosage with doctor's agreement to 25mg, 1 morning & 1 nighttime. Now at 135/77 & 55 bpm with minor irregular heartbeat during sleep/resting. Feels like after cutting my drinking to recommended units per day, my heart is stronger but being held back by my medication. So will suggest a lower dosage with the goal of coming off altogether??"
