Meperidine for Light Sedation "My pain doctor gives me this now along with Phenergan in I.M. injection, prior to my epidural treatments, for my lower back (twisted tailbone), bulging discs, neck epidurals, and Botox for my migraines. This combination works very well for me in sedation and pain relief, so I can tolerate the epidurals. My system can't tolerate any other medicines very well, so I am thankful for Demerol, as it does not make me sick or have any hangover feeling."

Meperidine for Light Sedation "I was given this medicine during my colonoscopy. I'm an individual who is very sensitive to medications, and I have an autoimmune disease. I don't like feeling drugged, and this medicine gave me no side effects, such as nausea or feelings as though I am dying, as I had from morphine. I have had anesthesia too...unsure what was in that...but it also made me very nauseous. So this is a medicine I highly recommend if you need to have a medical procedure done but don't want to be completely sedated."

Meperidine for Pain "Had VICIOUS kidney stone attacks, went into the ER and (after an abnormally-long wait) they hooked me up to a Dilaudid IV. Went from an '8' down to a '0' in 45 seconds flat (with a few oddball side effects thrown in). Got home two (2) hours later, and proceeded to throw up onto everything but the toilet (and that was WITH anti-nausea meds!). When I had the stones surgically removed, they used the same Dilaudid with the same results. Complications arose, and I had to go back under, this time, I insisted on something else. They used Demerol, and it was like night and day. NO side effects, and I almost skipped out of the hospital an hour after surgery. Very. Much. Recommended."

Meperidine for Pain "I was driving to the airport this morning when intense pain creeped up on my blank stomach area. It kept getting worse to the point I had to pull over, the next thing I knew, I was in a fetal position next to a phone booth. Somehow, I was able to gather strength and drive a couple blocks to the nearest hospital. I checked in, trying to remain calm, but I remember having to go to the bathroom, and then there I collapsed at once again in a fetal position because of indescribable pain. They finally called my name, and I sat in the back room waiting and waiting, moaning and moaning, the people at my cot were pleading with doctors to help me. I think the doctors thought I was faking for drugs. I remember throwing up, the pain was so intense. It felt like I was in another realm, the pain was so relentless. I had never made sounds like that before. After what I thought was an eternity, a doctor’s assistant shot me 75 mg of Demerol. The bliss was unbelievable, I'll never forget how it took the pain away miraculously, I thought."

For Pain "I took meperidine after surgery, it helped greatly for the pain for about 6 hrs. It also helps you sleep and get rest from pain. The only downside was throwing up when I first started taking it, so I had to take nausea pills with it at first."

Meperidine for Pain "This medicine was given to me at the hospital after my car accident. It worked great, except it made me nauseated, and I vomited after a large dose. Works really well."

Meperidine for Pain "Demerol, when given through IV, is best when mixed with an anti-nausea medication called Phenergan. It makes the Demerol work a lot better than when given alone."

Meperidine for Pain "I had migraines from the time I was 18 years old. I would have to go to the doctor's office to get a shot as I had to work. About 1984, my doctor gave me the 50 mg Meperidine tabs. I controlled my migraines by using half a pill when needed. Most times, a month's prescription lasted me four to six months. I never got dizzy or anything when taking it. I did use Phenergan for nausea. I am allergic to morphine, codeine, Imitrex, and a variety of other meds, including antibiotics. Allergies occurred in hospitals. My neurologist has no problem prescribing it for me, but I can't find any place to fill it, so for six months, I have had to put up with horrible headaches. The VA pharmacy has it, but my neurologist isn't in the Optum system for prescriptions, only the medical part, so they won't fill it. The latest VA gave me Topamax. It doesn't help, it only messes my INR up for my warfarin. Even my PA has stated I don't abuse drugs. But she can't prescribe it, and the doctor won't. Demerol is the only pain med I have not had a reaction to. Now what?"
