Megestrol "This was by far the most horrible medication I've been on in my life. It did end the endometrial precancerous condition, but at great cost to my body and mind. The doctors also don't tell you it is a steroid. My side effects included: joint pain everywhere - steroids eat away the joints over time, high blood pressure - I didn't have it before this medication, and I do now, edema everywhere - including hands and face, hypoglycemia - had to drink orange juice and eat small meals to keep it under control, nightmares and bad dreams - I never seemed to be able to get a deep sleep, fatigue, unable to truly experience joy or emotion except anger, emotionally brittle - had to lie down whenever I got upset (and more than this will allow me to type)."

Megestrol "Took 20 mgs of Megace for 4 months, then 10 mgs for another 3 months and had NO side effects whatsoever. (I actually managed to lose some weight while taking this medicine.) It took some time for my complex hyperplasia without atypia to clear up, but my latest biopsy was clear from all hyperplasias and now on a regime of 10 mgs of Provera and will go back for a follow-up in another 2 months. (I was actually kind of worried to change to Provera as I did so well and had no negative side effects while taking the Megace.)"

"I've been on Megestrol for a little over 10 years. Started with 40 mg at first for about 6 years, now down to 20 mg. This medication worked great for the endometrial hyperplasia, however, there are side effects. The side effects I noticed were my hair was falling out, I have a weaker stomach, low sexual desire (dosage was changed to 20 mg). My hair came back, but the others are still there. Comparing the side effects to its effectiveness, I still take Megestrol as of today."

"I have endometrial hyperplasia without atypia, and my insurance refuses a hysterectomy. I have been on megestrol now for over 2 1/2 months, 40 mgs twice a day. Hot flashes, insomnia, and bleeding, BUT I have been shedding the excess tissue of my hyperplasia. I go back in 2 weeks for yet another biopsy and will see if the hyperplasia is gone. One other effect is very strong urine from this medicine. I had tried regular progesterone, and I could not tolerate it. Major bleeding and egg-sized clots. So far, megestrol is working for me. Time will tell, but I am hopeful of being able to stop taking it."

Megestrol "I took this after I had surgery on my ovaries. It gave me bad insomnia, hot flashes, and really bad weight gain. Once I was off of it, I was okay. I am once again on Megace for hyperplasia, and I am experiencing hot flashes and weight gain once again, but now within the month that I have been taking it, my blood sugar is going up, and I am fatigued all the time."

"I was diagnosed with complex endometrial hyperplasia about 2 weeks ago. I actually ended up in the ER from blood loss. I almost died. Had to have 4 blood transfusions. Had an emergency D&C and tests came back complex endometrial hyperplasia. I've been on this medication, 40 mg twice a day, now for 2 weeks. The only things I'm experiencing are constipation, insomnia, and mood changes. My doctor wants me back in 3 months to do a biopsy and also get an IUD. In 3 months, we will see how I'm doing. I hope it goes away because my fiancé and I want to have a baby, but everything has been put on hold until the doctor gives us the 'okay'. I only gave 7 stars because I haven't been on it long enough or had a check-up yet to see how it's working. But for me, it's been pretty mild."

Megestrol "At the six-week point, I began bleeding and have been bleeding heavily for two weeks. Also, swelling of feet and ankles, as well as a weird 'whooshing' sound in my ear. I think the Megestrol turned on me."

"I have been struggling with endometrial hyperplasia for about 5 years now. This is my first time sticking to my recommended dosage because my husband and I are trying to conceive. I definitely have cravings and find myself eating and not even hungry, so it has been important for me to really get a grip on it and try intermittent fasting. My weight is a main cause of my condition, I believe. Other symptoms I have experienced are very light, mild vaginal cramping, usually like a throbbing feeling. This may happen randomly for a moment, and then I might not feel anything for days. Some pelvic and abdominal cramping, but again faint and not often. I have a few days of old blood discharge after my first month, 1 day of spotting into the 2nd month. Going into month 3 now. I'm taking 40mg 2x a day and have a D&C at the end of Aug to follow up."

"Began taking this medication in April and still on it in August. I was bleeding heavily for 5 months. A biopsy revealed hyperplasia with atypia. This medication stopped my period but gave me intense night sweats, headaches, breast pain, and weight gain. I'll be having a hysterectomy in September."

"I have been taking this for about 2 weeks for hyperplasia with atypia. I had not really had any side effects until last night when I began to have these awful leg cramps that made my legs feel tight and weak. My heart began to race, I couldn't sleep (insomnia), and I just started feeling overall bad. I sent my doctor a message and await a response. If these are the side effects, I don't know if I can continue these meds. I am supposed to take 40 mg once per day for 3 months."

"I was diagnosed with complex endometrial hyperplasia with atypia on 8/9/17 and began megestrol on 8/12/17. I slowly began experiencing common symptoms such as weight gain and increased appetite, but then I slowly started experiencing increased mood swings, irritability, insomnia, itchy body, and shortness of breath. What made me finally call the doctor on 9/19/17 was being up at 3 am with the inability to breathe. I was informed to discontinue due to allergic reactions. On 9/21/17, I began with joint pain and swelling in my hands and wrists. By Friday, 9/22/17, I couldn't function for myself at all. My entire left arm and both hands were useless, and I ended up in the ER where I learned this is all allergic reactions as well."

"This is my story: had failed IVF. Abnormal uterine bleeding from the last miscarriage, on and off menstrual period, not heavy at all. I technically not ovulating and rarely menstruate. In June 2019, I went to see RE for a water ultrasound to R/U polyps, and yes, my suspicion was right. Polyps removed, found advanced hyperplasia grade 1, placed on Megace 160 mg daily. First month, October 2019, no bleeding, second month, November, started spotting, and I called my doctors and was told it was normal. Until today, 12/9/2019, I am spotting. No heavy flow or clots. I read an article that this medication regulates periods if there was amenorrhea, but for those who are menopausal. So, now I am unsure, at my age of 42, I am menopausal. I am very confused."

"I do not need to gain weight, as a matter of fact, I was already overweight, and now I'm gaining even more. Can I take something that won't make me gain so much weight?"
