For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've been on the Depo for over two years now. For the first 9 months, I experienced light bleeding/spotting, but the doctors told me to continue as it won't be long until my body got used to it. After my third shot, the bleeding just stopped completely. It is best to carry on with it because I haven't had a period in over a year, just occasional spotting every couple of months, if that. Weight gain was a problem for me, but I'm not overweight, and I can lose it if I stick to a healthy diet. Other than that, I've had no problem with the Depo, it's really not as bad as people are making it out to be. Once you get past the months of bleeding, you don't have to worry about a thing. :)"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 56 years old. I have not had a period in 10 years. Last month I started again. Extremely heavy flow for 2 weeks. Had a vaginal ultrasound and found no signs of cancer. Yesterday I started again, today I started taking Provera. I am hoping it stops the bleeding. Heavy bleeding, cramps (front and lower back), and clots."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I took one Depo Provera shot in October 2019 and started a period 2 weeks later. Basically, that period hasn't stopped till today, February 4th, 2020. I have tried other hormonal treatments to stop it, and all that would happen is that it would stop and start again. Very heavy bleeding with huge clots. It's all very alarming and annoying. All this even though I didn't take the second shot in January. DO NOT TAKE IT!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Depo is the worst birth control I ever got. Bleeding nonstop after about a month. However, I did some research, and there are a couple of natural remedies that have really helped. 1. Red raspberry leaf tea 3x a day 2. Agnus Cactus (Vitex) (it’s a tincture, so I feel it gets absorbed better in your system) 3. Dong Quai 3x a day. After taking this regimen, my bleeding stopped. Of course, I got happy and forgot to take them, and it comes back, but for anyone who’s so sick and tired of bleeding (and not having sex, ughhh), give this a try. If it works, give some feedback so more ladies can have some of their symptoms regulated. Xoxo"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Stay as far away as possible from this medicine. I took only one injection on Oct 11, 2015, during my cycle, with hopes of lightening my cycle, which was due to start on my wedding day, Nov 21, 2015. I started bleeding approximately 1 week after receiving the injection, it is now Feb 22, 2016, and I am still bleeding. It's a constant spotting, with a breakthrough of extreme heavy bleeding, soaking a pad within an hour. I am a newlywed and unable to satisfy my husband, I surely hope he doesn't go out and cheat due to this stupid shot. There should be some type of class action lawsuit. Depo Provera needs to come off the market."

For Endometriosis "I've had endometriosis my whole life. Six surgeries. I was on Lupron 2x. Birth control pills. Finally, the depo was my last resort. The first time, it made me bleed every day for 7 months. I didn't give up on it. It made me gain weight because it increases your appetite, and you don't realize it until you go off of it. I still didn't give up. I've been on it now for 5 years, and I have joined Weight Watchers and increased exercise. I have not had a period in 5 years. I don't miss the agony, the pain, the hospital visits, being bedridden for 3 days a month. I love the Depo, and now I'm making progress with losing weight, so I'm happy."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "WHY is this product still on the market?! I have been bleeding for 7 months straight after taking this horrible drug. My only options to stop the bleeding are to either keep taking the shots for a year or stop taking the shots and wait months for the bleeding to stop. After 2 shots, I decided to stop, but I have no idea when the bleeding will finally end. It's not small spotting, but EXCESSIVE and continuous flow of blood. I guess it's rightfully called birth control, because when you're on it, you'll have little to no sex. Pads now cause chafing, and tampons are now painful. I wish I could sue this company for making the last 7 months of my life hell! DO NOT TAKE THIS DRUG! YOU MAY NOT HAVE THE SYMPTOMS, BUT IT'S NOT WORTH TRYING IT TO FIND OUT!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been on the Depo-Provera shot for 5 years. I love it, I haven't had a period since I got the first shot. Then one day randomly, I started spotting. I wasn't too concerned at first, but the bleeding went on and got heavier over a span of 2 months (I had been trying to get into the doctors, but that hadn't been working out). Finally, I was able to talk to my doctor, and it just turned out to be my body basically adapting to the progestin, so instead of coming in every 12 weeks, I come in every 10 to 11 weeks depending on if I start bleeding."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I cannot stress enough about how bad the Depo is! I got the shot in Sept. 2019 and am still having horrible side effects. I am so bloated, sore breasts, and having intense cramping. I've been bleeding non-stop for almost 5 months now. This is so depressing! Along with that, I am having extreme mood swings and depression. I never had either of those things before. I wish I could go back in time and never get this shot ever. I only had one shot, I had no idea these horrible side effects would last so long."

For Endometrial Hyperplasia, Prophylaxis "I am a 64-year-old woman who is 15 years post-menopausal. A polyp was removed from my cervix. I had an ultrasound of the uterus with a biopsy. The biopsy came back okay, and the lining of the uterus measurement was 15. Ultrasound showed probably a polyp. I had a hysteroscopy with D&C and the removal of a polyp. The gynecologist would like to do a hysterectomy. Since my test results came back as simple hyperplasia, my insurance questioned that suggestion. I was put on Provera 10 mg for the protocol of 90 days. I repeated the ultrasound and biopsy. Ten days after taking Provera, I started spotting light bleeding. A week later, I had a heavy period with large clots. My doctor prescribed Lysteda for 5 days, blood work, then back on Provera. No thank you. I am exhausted! I am struggling with my concentration, worrying about being able to change my pads before leakage, and feeling tired and weak, with headaches and chills. I won't take Provera or Lysteda. I am done with my uterus and had all this trouble. I don't want any more drugs. Hysterectomy time!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "My experience with Provera has been a very painful situation. I am 26 and was diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome at the age of 22. I never had regular periods since the age of 15. I was always on some form of birth control to regulate. I was taking the Depo-Provera shot (depo shot) for about 6 months before I decided to get off due to the excessive weight gain. The Nurse Practitioner weaned me off of the shot and decided to give me the Micronor birth control pills, which did not help as well. I have been on my cycle for 2.5 months. I cannot afford insurance, the only thing I could do was go to the emergency room. I saw the ER doctor there, where she gave me the Provera 10 mg four times a day. My bleeding has gotten heavier."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Well, I got my FIRST and ONLY Depo injection on August 28th, 2020. I got my 'period' on September 26th, 2020, which ended up being a never-ending period and spotting. It’s April 24th, 2021, and I’m still bleeding, but it’s not super heavy, but some days it can be. My doctor just gave me birth control pills, which I’m not taking, got blood work done on me, and I’m just here wanting this to end. I’ve never felt so disgusting with the never-ending period. Anyone who just had one injection, how long did it take for you to stop?"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I started my period in March. It's been mostly light bleeding, but on Friday it got pretty heavy. By Tuesday I was in the ER because I was just passing softball-sized balls every single time I stood up. I went to see my OB-GYN today, and he prescribed me Provera. Prior to taking it, I was still passing huge clots and just overall felt miserable. I've barely had an appetite and just felt so tired. Within two hours of taking this pill, I could feel the difference. I had more energy, I don't feel stabbing pain in my lower back from cramps, and I don't feel like a waterfall is going to come pouring out of me when I stand up. I know this is only the first day, and I still have 13 days to go on this pill, but so far it's been amazing."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I am 39 years old. My whole life, I had normal periods. Some months, the cramping was awful, but they were regular, same time every month. Then, about 2 years ago, they began coming earlier every month. I was having 1, twice a month. I saw my gyno 5 months ago (July), who did an ultrasound and said it all looked normal. I was back in October, the bleeding was getting worse. He prescribed Provera 10 mg once a day to start. When I began bleeding again, he said it would stop the bleeding, so I did as instructed and bled for 10 days straight. It stopped only to return 9 days later for another 9 days, stopped for a week, then started again the 17th of this month (November). This time, it started brown in color. It is the 30th, STILL bleeding."

"Have been on Depo-Provera almost 3 years since being diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome and endometriosis, as it is the only contraceptive my consultant could recommend that doesn't allow ovulation. I can honestly say I find no faults with this contraceptive! I get it every 10 weeks as opposed to every 12 weeks to keep it built up and not allow bleeding. I was on the pill version before, and it didn't agree with me, but the injection has worked wonders! No pain, nausea, anemia, or bleeding! My life has changed because of this medication. I would honestly seek professional advice if you found this didn't work for you, as it may just be a case of dosage or time span."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I will never take this medication again. I haven’t taken it as long as some of the ladies here, but it’s been a month, and my OBGYN and the ladies there probably hate me because I called them off the hook until we figured out how to stop this bleeding, and I have been bleeding non-stop for a month. They first asked me to take a high dose of ibuprofen for 5 days, the ibuprofen actually minimized my bleeding, too, but still didn't stop it. So now I am taking estrogen pills to see if that stops the bleeding. If not, then the doctor said I will have to wait 3-6 months for this horrible Depo to leave my system. Can you believe they told me to take a second shot? It will help and be different. I was like, NO, never again. I regret doing this to my body."

For Birth Control "I read all the reviews prior to trying this injection, so I was quite apprehensive. Honestly, best contraception I have ever used. Have had no side effects, no bleeding, and don't ever get my period, and it is 100 times more convenient than taking the pill. I have been using it for almost 12 months. My advice for people is don't get too concerned by reading all the reviews, obviously, drugs react with people differently, so for some people, it may not be suitable, but it is great for me!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I cannot stress enough how important this forum is because I finally feel seen. I hate that we’re all in this horrible situation and that doctors look at it like we’re over-exaggerating. A part of me feels like they honestly don’t have a remedy to take away this bleeding. I took my first Depo-Provera shot in May 2018. I didn’t like the way it made me feel physically/mentally, so I decided that would be the end of Depo for me. After about a couple of weeks, I began to bleed. Didn’t stop for a whole year. That’s when the doctor told me to just complete the process and to go on it all over again. Like the idiot I am, I put my faith in her judgment. I was desperate because it’s not like I can take ibuprofen or estrogen pills due to my lupus. Anyway, I’m down to my last shot, which I took two days ago. Guess who’s still bleeding, ladies -_-. Honestly, this is unacceptable, I was never aware that this was a thing that happens. Doctors need to be more honest, and we need to be more aware."

For Birth Control "Do not take this shot. I took one dose, I discontinued use and didn’t get my second shot due to the side effects. I bled for 3.5 months straight. It was as if I had my period the entire time. I had to take iron supplements. I went to different doctors, no one really helped. They put me on estrogen, it slowed the bleeding for about 2 weeks, but I was still spotting. Then it just stopped working completely, and I was back to bleeding heavily again. The last week of it, at the 3.5 month mark, the bleeding was so heavy I debated going to the ER. It was one pad an hour at that point. After the heavy bleeding for about 3 days, it abruptly slowed down. It took about a week of spotting, and now it’s finally out of my system. In total, almost four months of bleeding. The shot stays in your system for a few weeks after the three month mark. If you’re experiencing anything similar, just wait it out and don’t take the second dose. This stuff's poison."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Omg! Do not get it if you haven't already. I got my first shot like 3 weeks ago and lost all sex drive and have been bleeding constantly. My partner and I used to sleep together every time we were together, and now I can't because of this blood. My hair is falling out too, my face is breaking out, I feel cranky and have no energy, I have no sex drive and the bleeding. This man-made drug is clearly no good for us women and should be taken off the shelf!!!"
