For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "When I was first on Depo Provera, I bled for 6 months straight. The OB said my body had to get used to it and I would need another cycle, so I took the shot for another 6 months, and lo and behold, I had bleeding every day for 1 year. I don't even know how that was possible, but it was like a heavy period every day. When I called the OB and other clinics, everyone said, 'You signed a waiver.' OK, well no one said if I had a problem. I stopped Depo, and like a silly college kid, I was convinced to take Depo 6 months later. The OB said my body may be different, and again I had my period for 6 more months. Thank goodness there were no effects except the annoyance of bleeding every day for 18 months altogether. This shot does work, why have sex bleeding?"

For Amenorrhea "I was on Depo Provera shot for 1.5 years before wanting to change to natural family planning. After getting off the shot, I had no period for 1 year. Doc prescribed Provera. I did not bleed. Three months later, I became pregnant. I miscarried around 5 weeks. It was a natural miscarriage. Waited two months, still no period. Went back to doc. Prescribed Provera 10 mg for 10 days (again), currently bleeding on day one after the last pill. I recommend this medicine. It does jump-start the cycle. And I believe that helped me ovulate during the first cycle even though I did not have a period with it. Never lose hope if you are trying to conceive or simply just bring back a regular cycle so that you can feel like a 'normal' woman."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Is there a class action suit against this company? We need to start one! After getting 2 Depo Provera shots, I bled for a year and a half straight! I had 3 blood transfusions until my doctor said there is no other option other than a hysterectomy. I was 39 years old then and was planning on having another baby with my husband, but I couldn't. My blood level was 5.3 at one point, my doctor said it was the lowest he had ever seen in any patient."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I’ve received the shot 2 months ago and have not stopped bleeding since. I haven’t been able to have intercourse with my husband because of the bleeding. This birth control is not working out for me."

For Birth Control "For the last 3 months, I've been nonstop bleeding. My hormones are way out of whack, and it's making me want to literally do anything to stop the bleeding. This drug also made me gain close to 100 lbs in 2 years. Before this drug, I was a size 2. Now a 16..."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I only had one shot. It lasts 3 months. During those months I got my period the first month and not the other two. Now I came down to Trinidad on vacation before I was able to get my second shot. Now I've been bleeding for 3 months straight. I know this is abnormal. I have the worst cramps, and my whole body hurts."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Provera did not work for me. When I had my last period, before the operation to get fibroids removed, I had some really heavy period bleeding, I could not leave home. I had to go to A&E, where a GP prescribed Provera to me. The drug calmed the bleeding down for a few days, but it never stopped it. On some days, I would have really heavy bleeding with massive clots. During 2 weeks, I had to visit A&E a couple of times again, trying to explain that the drug was not working. I was assured again and again that since my operation was taking place in a couple of weeks, there was no point in changing the drug. In my third week of bleeding, it became extremely bad, it was pouring out non-stop for hours. I ended up in A&E again, where I collapsed at the reception and was admitted to the hospital. I was given an injection of Tranexamic acid that stopped the bleeding, and I was prescribed Norethisterone instead, which worked much better!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had my baby 5 months ago and decided, why not get on Depo, so I won’t get pregnant again. I’ve been bleeding since I left the hospital from giving birth. That was 5 months ago. I’ve been so depressed and weak. IDK what to do."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I really wish I saw this page before I took the Depo. :( I got onto birth control to be with my boyfriend, and for the first month, I only had spotting for 3 days and it stopped. Then around the 2nd month, I bled very heavily and passed a huge placenta-sized clot. Scared me to death. I had panic attacks and depression for a week. Went to the doctor because I felt so sick I thought there was something seriously wrong with me. They said, 'it's normal,' gave me ibuprofen, and left me on my way. The bleeding stopped for 4 days and started again. I haven't had sex with my boyfriend in so long, and I'm so tired of bleeding. I'm tired, sad, and angry all the time. I can't have sex without there being so much blood. The amount of shame, sadness, and embarrassment I feel is immeasurable. I'm so mad the doctors never told me any of this would happen, and now I'm scared it's going to last longer. I'm so tired of crying over this."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "This is my second shot, and I am still bleeding like the first one. The shot is supposed to work for 3 months, but for some reason, I get about a month only. After that, I literally have my period every day 'til I get my next shot. This shot has not been helpful at all. On top of getting my period every day for 2 months, I gain weight like crazy, too. Too many cons, I would rather not be on the shot."

For Endometriosis "I love the Depo shot. No side effects at all. I read so many negative reviews before I took my first shot. I have experienced none of the side effects I read about in the reviews. I have not had any breakthrough bleeding as many people described. I have had no periods after the first shot. Before Depo, I had painful cramps before and during my period. No pain and no weight gain. I am so pleased with this form of birth control."

For Amenorrhea "I was missing my period after taking the Plan B pill. So after waiting for 45 days for my period to come, the doctor prescribed me Provera 10 mg for 10 days. I took the pill for 9 days and somehow missed taking it on the 10th day. Three days after stopping my pill, I got my period. It was not very scary. Yes, I bled a little heavier on the third day, but it was manageable. I had aches in my thighs and my back. I would suggest buying panties with pads in them because it'll be easier to use and dispose of."

For Birth Control "This birth control, Depo-Provera, is the worst birth control ever made. Don't get it - it will mess you up. I bled every single day for months, and good birth control doesn't make you bleed every day heavily, so you can't have sex anyway. Think about your options, don't choose Depo-Provera, it's awful."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I have been on Provera 10 mg for about a month. I was initially diagnosed with uterine polyps and had a DNC done to remove the polyps, and my OBGYN prescribed Provera to stop the bleeding. It stopped for maybe 5 days but then started again and was way heavier with more clotting and cramping. My OBGYN, in turn, prescribed mefenamic acid in combination with the Provera, and it still hasn't stopped the bleeding. I've been bleeding heavily for almost 10 days now. I've started to see a slowing in the amount of blood, but it's not stopping altogether. It has been about 3 months of bleeding. Next step for me is a hysterectomy. I'm 34 years old and do not want to do that. I'm hoping this will work. It hasn't so far, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I'm a 31-year-old diagnosed with PCOS. I've been having irregular periods since the age of 15. They put me on birth control, which regulated them. Now, older, they are worried about my blood pressure and blood clots. The longest I've gone without a period is a year and a half. The last 3 months, I've had spotting every day. The doctor put me on Provera, 10 pills every 3 months. I got my period on the 4th day of taking the pills and am now dealing with debilitating cramps, heavy bleeding, and clotting bigger than quarter size. I bleed through a tampon and pad every hour. Had to leave work early today because I bled through my pants in a matter of 30 minutes. It's been like this for 3 days and is unbearable. When will it end?"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Thanks to everyone who shared. I’m 43, no history of menstrual irregularity. Missed a period in August, it arrived in early October, and I’ve bled since then. Very heavy with clots. To the point I struggle with working and can’t exercise. Pelvic ultrasound normal. Doc wants me to have a hysteroscopy. I’m terrified it’s something sinister. Reading all your stories has given me hope."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I had my first shot, and the first three months were fine. After the second shot, I haven't stopped bleeding. When I was due for my third shot, my doctor advised against having it. It should have worn off by now. I am still bleeding, now five months after my second shot, it feels like it is never going to stop."

For Birth Control "When I first got the shot, I bled for a month straight. This is pretty normal. Then I didn’t have a period for the duration of my time on the shot. However, I kept starting and stopping. Don’t do this or else your body will have to start all over again. Like if you stop and start, your body will have to go through the cycle, and you might go through the bleeding or spotting for a month or so. But after my third start over, I just didn’t bleed anymore during the adjustment period. I was on Depo for around 2.5 years, and I got paranoid that maybe I might become infertile. That’s a risk for almost every medication, though. I’m currently off the shot. It took 6 months for my period to come back after I stopped the shot cycle for good, which is what actually scared me the most about me being infertile even more. But 10/10 pregnancy prevention for me. This baby was like metal armor for me. I am hoping to get back on it soon."

For Birth Control "On 9/13/19, the nurse gave me the 1st Depo shot, but she didn't say anything about the side effects. I spotted until 1 week before Thanksgiving. Then I bled every other day. I gained a few pounds, had no sex drive, experienced vaginal dryness, and had some strong cramps. On 12/29/19, I went to the ER, and the doctor said Depo is making me bleed, and it should stop within a couple of months. After that day, I bled heavier every day, and I was getting tired of it. I went online to see reviews about this, and I discovered a remedy. I took two 1300 mg Evening Primrose oil capsules each day, and on the 5th day, my bleeding stopped. The FDA should never approve this shot. I hope one day the FDA will take this off the market. No lady should suffer like this after taking a medicine that should help them."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I've been on the shot since the beginning of May. I've been bleeding constantly for 7 months, with very frequent headaches. I almost thought I was anemic at one point due to the shot. However, it was very effective in preventing pregnancy, but definitely not worth all the other symptoms."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "Last September, I went to the OB-GYN for my heavy bleeding because I am tired of taking birth control and other meds. They prescribed me Provera in an attempt to prolong my 'dry time.' It seemed to work for about 2 months, and then suddenly I began having issues with even heavier bleeding, passing large clots, and shorter cycles (18-21 days). This continued until March of this year when I bled so heavily I had to be put in the hospital for an emergency D&C and had to have a blood transfusion (3 units). Now I continually have issues with hemorrhaging. The Provera made an already bad situation worse. Now it looks like I may have to pursue surgical options as a result. If you are wondering whether or not to take Provera, DON'T!!"

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "I wish I could give this a ZERO star. They warned me that I could have some abnormal bleeding, but nobody warned me that I'd be bleeding enough to support the Red Cross. My blood count is low, which it never has been before. Not to mention the acne, the attitude, the sore breasts, and the emotional instability to go along with it. The REAL reason this works as birth control is because nobody on this medication is doing anything even remotely related to sex (oh yeah, I forgot to mention - no sex drive). Even if you had a sex drive, it's a bloody war zone! Nope! Hopefully, someone, anyone really, will read this and think, 'nope, I'll go a different route,' and I will have saved someone some MAJOR heartache and struggles."

For Abnormal Uterine Bleeding "It’s a good medicine overall. I had really heavy bleeding and got sent to the hospital, and they put me on this, which was 10 mg for 20 days, and I stopped bleeding 12 days into it. But after reading some of these comments, it makes me so worried because once I stop it, I’ll have the “breakthrough” bleeding. So my thing is, how are you going to put someone on something for so long, then when they stop taking it, it’ll come rushing again? Hmm."
