"I was on Depo for a year and had my last shot on 7th March '19. When I was on Depo, I would have the occasional bleed, but overall it suited me. However, since I have stopped taking it, OMG.... so I kept a diary. The injection wears off roughly 12/13 weeks after the last injection, so the 1st week in June. 4-day bleed in July, 3-day bleed in August, 9-day bleed in September, 15-day bleed in October, 5-day bleed in November, and get this...... last period started 30th November, and today is the 12th January 2020, and I am STILL bleeding!!! Sick of my life!! I am off to the doctors tomorrow as I cannot handle this anymore, 44 days of solid period (no let up), and I am done. If anyone had told me this might've happened, then I would have for sure never ever taken this injection."

"Well, I had my last shot on 4th November. Should have had it redone at the end of January. Since then, I’ve bled constantly, really heavy, and with big clots, massive in fact. I've been to the docs today, sending me for a scan to make sure all is ok. He did say it can take a while to get out of the body. I’m also anaemic, so bloody marvellous, no pun intended. Keep you posted."

"I went to the OB because I had been bleeding for 6 months straight. Ultrasound showed nothing, no fibroids, nada. So they gave me Provera, and I have been on it for 5 days, and not a thing has happened. I feel like I am on Groundhog Day. I want this nightmare to stop, I just can't take this. I have no life, and I have lost so much weight, it is not funny, no matter how much I eat."

"My cycle has been on for over 3 months, so I went to the doctor. She prescribed Provera. The first day after starting the medication, I cramped (I'm not a cramper). The cramps stopped, but the bleeding never did. About two weeks on the pill, I started bleeding really heavily and passing too many clots, then I came to research. I wouldn't recommend this drug to anyone."

"I was advised to go on this as I have endo stage one. I've been on it 9 months, and it's been horrific. I bled the first shot for 68 days, then I spot constantly, which is so infuriating. Worst decision I made going on this."

"I went almost 3 months without a period. I should've known I was in for trouble, but I just let it slide until the day I started my period. I bled for 5 weeks non-stop. It was very heavy with lots of large clots. I went to the ER eventually, and the doctor prescribed me Provera 10 mg for 10 days. It was awesome for 10 days-almost no bleeding, just spotting here and there. I came off of Provera, and 2 days later, I'm bleeding 10 times worse and a lot more clots than I was before taking the drug. Something's got to give, I just want to be able to be normal again!"

"I started the Depo-Provera injection in Jan 2020 after I had my son in Dec 2019, all was well. I would have a period in the first month, it was long and heavy, and then no period or spotting for 2 months. I was quite happy. Then my OB had to go for surgery in July. I was not due until August for the shot, so he said it would be fine to get the shot half a month early. O M G! Wish I didn’t listen to him. My periods have been longer than 15 days, then spotting in between, and now a period again! It hasn’t been super heavy, but it sure is annoying as anything! I’m due for a shot on Oct 7, 2020, and I’m not going on it again! I’m diabetic and already exhausted from that, now this."

"I started my first Depo-Provera shot at the beginning of January and have been bleeding lots of bright red blood for about 2 weeks now. After reading everyone’s reviews about the nightmare not ending even after stopping the injection, I’m really regretting this decision. I’ve had the worst cramps ever, and I’m bloated and feel exhausted every day. Having a full period for 2 weeks is ridiculous, and the fact this can last for months is stressing me out. I was very optimistic about trying out another form of birth control since I had issues with the combination pill. My doctor said I would experience just some light spotting until my body adjusted, which isn’t accurate. Please avoid this injection at all costs! It isn’t worth the possibility of being stuck with these horrible side effects for months until it’s out of your system and maybe even beyond that! This was the worst mistake ever and not worth it."

"Do not take this Depo Provera shot. I have not stopped bleeding, and I took one shot, gained 4 pounds because of the shot, so I have stopped taking it, and now I'm bleeding and it won't stop. It's been going on for months now. I never had problems with my period until after I had the Depo Provera. Don't take the shot, you will not maybe ever have kids again. Bleeding doesn't stop. This shot should be discontinued and off the market."

"I am 31 years old. Since the birth of my first child, I've had very heavy, painful periods. Often irregular, as in a couple of times a month. But I have been bleeding for almost 5 months now. Three months ago, I was put on Provera 10 mg once a day. It lightened my bleeding after a few days, then I had brown discharge for a few days. But I started bleeding again even while taking the Provera. I first had a 10-day supply, then a 30-day supply, another 2 weeks, and now 2 more. But it has changed nothing. I'm bleeding and cramping nonstop and still have no answers. No fibroids, polyps, or cysts."

"I have been using the Depo for 2 1/2 years now. I noticed during the first year I would spot lightly when I usually got my period, and my cramps went away. After the first year, my period pretty much went away for the most part. However, when I do occasionally get spotting, it lasts for about 2 weeks, and it comes at random times. In the past year, I can recall it happening three times. For me, it still beats getting regular periods, and it has taken away my horrible cramps, so I deal with it. The pill always made me sick no matter what brand I tried, so that is another plus with the Depo. But everyone is different, and everyone will react differently."

"This shot has temporarily ruined my life. I am close to my 3-month mark of this shot, which means another dose. I am strongly considering not getting another. I am currently typing this at 4 am because I woke up after bleeding through my pad. Not fun. I've been bleeding/spotting for over half of the 3 months. I am always bloated, tired, and emotional. Sex drive gone, not to mention the constant inserting and deserting of tampons dozens of times a day. The only thing I ever see is blood. I'm constantly tired, I don't have the drive to do anything. This shot has consumed my life."

"So my doctor prescribed me Provera 10 mg for 10 days, and it completely stopped the bleeding, thank God. Seven days later, I got my period with the worst cramps ever, and I was bleeding really heavily with lots of blood clots. It was so uncomfortable."

"I had a miscarriage at 14 weeks. I bled after that for 2 weeks and then stopped bleeding for 4 weeks. I then got my first period, which started out very light, then, 5 days later, I was bleeding so heavily and passing very large clots that I ended up going to the ER. They decided to do a D and C to stop the heavy bleeding, but I bled just as heavily after the D and C. So, after several trips to the ER, they gave me Provera. After taking one pill, my bleeding became very light and stayed that way for the last 2 days. Today, however, I did a short rowing workout (the first time I've exercised in 2 weeks), and the bleeding seemed to pick up a little bit, and a pretty big clot came out (I'm not sure if it was from before when I was bleeding heavily and it just worked its way out). I was wondering if the bleeding got worse for anyone else after exercise?"

"Provera has been a wonder drug for me. I have been taking it for about 4 years now. I have no more periods. They were so bad after I had my son 15 years ago. I couldn't function. This drug has been great for me. I will continue to take it as long as I can."

"This medicine has been a complete life changer for me. Having heavy periods, 4 months nonstop bleeding, I am 40 years old. I was prescribed 10 milligrams for 10 days. If it wasn't for this medicine, my everyday life would be unbearable. Some drugs aren't for everyone. This one is by far the best. Everyone says it can cause cancer, it has bad side effects. Doesn't everything in life cause cancer and have bad side effects? This drug is so helpful for prolonged uterine bleeding. I would recommend this to anyone. This medicine saved me from a complete hysterectomy, so why everyone voices their opinions on it? Don't take it, go on and bleed and deal with it, and quit complaining about it. Maybe if it wasn't for the stress in your life, your periods would be regular."

"I've been on the Depo-Provera since November 2014, and I've been bleeding ever since. It's about time for my next shot, and I will not be continuing to take this medicine. Whereas it may be effective, it's costing more money buying feminine hygiene products, and it's seriously affecting my sex life. And I'm over the continuous bleeding."

"I always had regular periods and never took contraceptives & have no kids. I took Spironolactone for severe acne at age 49 and I had non-stop bleeding/spotting for nearly 2 months afterwards. The bleeding got worse and terrible cramps started. I have anemia and also a large fibroid. Ended up in the emergency room. Provera 10mg 3 times a day & Tranexamic acid 500mg 3 times 2 tablets were prescribed. I did not take Provera at first because I was worried, it's another hormone pill. A day later, I noticed Tranexamic only works for 8 hours and if the next dose comes late, I bled heavily again. So, I started taking Provera. Miraculously, within 3.5 days, the bleeding stopped. Side effects were reasonable: cramps, headache. I read all reviews before taking Provera and saw a 35% chance. I am glad I took the pill because it worked for me. I found a common negative review. All women stated they never had regular periods and they were on and off contraceptive pills before the irregular bleeding. I feel for all women who go through this, it is awful!"

"Age 50. Provera was the worst for me. Heavy nonstop bleeding for a month. Took Megace. Per doc, waited a week. Now on Provera. Provera caused the following: anxiety, my blood pressure went up, cramping, huge bloating, ovarian cyst rupture. Into my second round of 10 mg for 10 days. Hate it. I am going back to ask for birth control pills. Anything to right my cycle that doesn't make me crazy."

"The first time I took Provera, it worked great for 3-4 years and made me regular. I had gone to the ER for heavy bleeding and clotting. The second time I went to the ER was earlier this year (2015) for the same reason. Provera slowed it down, passed clots, and then I spotted here and there. Just recently, mid-July, I started having heavy bleeding again, and the docs couldn't give me answers as to why, but put me on Provera again. It didn't do anything this time. It slowed it down on Day 1-Day 3 on it, and then after, and especially when I finished Provera, I was bleeding very heavily. The doc said that's to be expected and have to wait it out and just wait for my ultrasound. I'm so sick of all this bleeding and even more so not getting any answers/treatment."

"I am 20 years old. I got prescribed Provera (10 mg), one pill a day for 10 days. I began my period on June 28, and it’s now September 16, 2019. I’ve been to three doctors. The first gave me birth control, it was the Enskyce brand and I was on it for three weeks. I started this birth control hoping it would make my period stop, but it didn’t. Then I went for a second opinion and went to a different doctor, and she sent me to get blood work and a pelvic ultrasound. Everything came out fine. I was still not satisfied, so I went to a third doctor. She was the one who gave me Provera. She was a midwife doctor, and she went over my lab results and sent me to get extra lab work done, which tested prolactin, follicle-stimulating hormone, and testosterone levels. Those results came out fine, and she said that being on Provera was the last thing she could think of to stop my bleeding. My period didn’t stop until the seventh day of taking it. After stopping the pill, my period began two days later."

"I am 22, and I had my period for 5 weeks straight, so I went to the doctor, and they told me I lost so much blood I had to get a blood transfusion. Then they put me on Provera 10 mg 3 times a day for 2 months. At first, it stopped the bleeding for a month, but then the Provera stopped working, so my doctor switched me to birth control, and that doesn't work either. I've been bleeding for a month now. I don't know what to do."

"I have abnormal uterine bleeding, and after bleeding for 2 months straight, I was given Provera 2x before it actually worked. On top of it all, it took almost 5 days to fully stop my bleeding. Thank God I stopped bleeding, but I still have cramps. It’s been exactly 17 days that I have not bled. But now I’m wondering my pills are almost done. What's going to happen to me? Am I going to start bleeding heavily again? Is it going to never stop again? I’m so afraid of what will happen when I’m done with Provera. Ugh!!!"

"I am 46 and live in the UK. I've just been put on this Provera medication today. I have had numerous blood tests and have been told that I am on my way to menopause, kick-started after having my left ovary removed due to a cyst in 2015. I have been lucky in the sense that periods weren't too bad for me growing up, but over the last couple of years, they have been very irregular. Lately, though, I have had quite heavy flooding and am awaiting an appointment to have a hysteroscopy. My last period finished on Christmas Eve, and since then I have had spotting every day, sometimes a lot. Hot flushes, headaches, and erratic sleeping patterns. I am taking prescribed iron tablets and vitamin D, as I feel exhausted. So, today the doctor put me on Provera, 2 tablets a day. I am hoping that they will help."

"I started my Depo shot around September. A week or two before I was about to get my next shot, I started my period. I thought when I received my next shot it might stop it. It didn't. I am still on my period, and it is April. I have my next shot today, and this is my last attempt. If it continues, I will be switching back to the pill. Not only that, but I had major weight gain and depression."
