Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I was bleeding heavily for a month with extremely large blood clots that made it difficult and stressful to even leave the house. It was seriously affecting my quality of life and emotional well being. My Dr. prescribed Provera 10mg twice a day for ten days. After the second dose, the blood clots had completely disappeared. By the third dose, no bleeding at all. This medicine was like a miracle for me. I am happy to have my life back. I noticed I am having a headache, but it's not that bad. I'll take a headache any day over the suffering I endured with that excessive bleeding/clotting."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I’m a 27 yr old woman I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 25 but always had irregular periods last May I had a tube removed because of it ruptured due to ectopic pregnancy. Around April I missed my period and it did not come for a month and a half then I started spotting for weeks I finally went to the doctor and they prescribed a birth control pill 2 a day for 2 weeks which did not work and caused the bleeding to get heavier after I finished the pills. It also caused me to have lower back paid tender breast and diarrhea everyday. Now I’m on Provera 10 for 10 days. Currently on day 3 the cramps are horrible and the bleeding is super heavy and I still have all the same symptoms plus a headache similar to a hangover. I am so tired of bleeding and being told it’s normal. I feel so depressed and hopeless. I’m going to stick with it though because it’s my only hope atm"

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "Good evening, I stated my cycle like normal only it lasted over a month. I freaked and went to the Doctor because I was going insane. Got given a 14 day course of Provera and I've been taking it for 2 days now and the bleeding has stopped completely. I'm scared that if I stop taking it I'll start to bleed again. I have to go back to get the ultrasound to figure out what happened. I've always had irregular periods but normally I just would skip 3 or 4 months. And start lasting 4-5 days most of the time it's stress. This time it started and was beyond heavy. Not a lot of pain thought. I wish everyone hope. For the madness we all share.. thanks for the comments. It's helped me a lot.."

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I've been taking this shot since October. I've been bleeding non stop since December. It went from a 2 weeks period, to a 2 month period. I've taken Meds to help & nothing! This horrible. It's like I'm on the shot for no reason."

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I’ve been on the depo provera shot for over 6 months now and don’t have any complaints. I haven’t had a period since I started it! No cramps, no blood, pretty much the only thing I deal with is the emotional cycle, which I can deal with just fine. When I get the shot, for about a day everything tastes weird. It makes my hip/leg feel weird but I found that walking around and staying rather active the day of the shot helps a bunch! The shot is super quick and doesn’t hurt at all, at least for me with a high pain tolerance. Oh, and I’m not pregnant at all! Me and my boyfriend don’t use any other form of protection and I’ve never even had a pregnancy scare. I used to be on the pill for 3 years and I like this even better. Overall, everything is going well! I would definitely recommend this form of birth control."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I was prescribed these to delay my period for 3 weeks whilst on holiday, they delayed it for about 7 days but I still got my period then had heavy, irregular bleeding for approximately 2 months. I have PCOS so my periods are extremely irregular but only last 5 days and are light to normal. This medication wasn't any good for me at all and along with the spontaneous, heavy bleeding I had terrible pain and large clots. I'll never take them again. I've had northisterone in the past to delay my period and they were brilliant. This is just my experience and every woman is different."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I was bleeding for 7 weeks lightly and then all of a sudden it came and I was passing large clots and a lot of blood. My doctor put me on Provera 10mg twice a day. I had a horrible headache and felt tired but my period did stop which is great. "

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I've been on Depo-Provera for 2 years this month. It was great! Had little to no periods, light spotting for a week before I had gotten my next shot. Didn't have to worry about taking pills daily. I had no side effects at all. I was actually losing weight. But, the last shot I had back in March, they informed me that there was a new type of Depo, formula, that took place of the Depo that my body was used to. Ever since then, my period has been not stopped. I gained 20 pounds in one week of water weight. My cramps has been terrible to where I can't eat. I feel as though I'm pregnant at all times. I go Tuesday to either get checked to see if I need to be off it. Anyone else experienced this since they've changed it?"

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I'm 41ys old I've been taking provera for a month now it stopped my bleeding the first month but then it came back in full force, and I haven't stop bleeding yet and its been a month. I was put on it because of my anemia and fibroids because my blood was low due to the lost of blood. I have been feeling very weak and bleeding heavy and having horrible pain, going back to the doctors due to the pain and bleeding I can not take the pain and I stop taking the pill."

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I've been on this for a few months. I'm very bad at remembering to take the pill everyday at the same exact time so I figured the shot would be perfect. And I know its still a little too early to determine whether or not I like it. I got my period in December and she administered the shot. I haven't stopped bleeding since and its almost March! I spoke with my doctor and she told me it was totally normal and it was my body getting used to the medication but I very much dislike it. I've been VERY moody and I get so turned off by food that sometimes I just go through the day drinking fluids. This has only been from one shot, but I'll see where it goes. If it continues to go downhill, I have to switch back to the pill."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "My doctor put me on 10 mg Provera for two weeks due to menorrhagia. I had been bleeding heavily for two weeks when I started with the medication. Provera slowed my vaginal bleeding down to a medium flow, some times even a light flow, but it never stopped the bleeding. On the 14th day, and last day of Provera, I started getting bad cramps that lasted for two and a half days. A day AFTER I stopped with Provera, it was like someone turned on a faucet. Blood is gushing out of me. It’s like when you sit down and urinate, only it’s blood gushing out of my uterus. It was really scary until I came on here and saw that extremely heavy bleeding seem to be normal when you first stop with Provera. Luckily, I’ve been off work the last two days and stayed in bed or on the toilet. Third day of being off Provera is tomorrow, which is also when I’m back at work. Hoping the bleeding will have slowed down a little bit by then."

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "When I was first on depo provera I bleed for 6 months straight, the OB said my body had to get used to it and I would need another cycle so I took the shot another 6 months and low and behold I had bleeding everyday for 1 year. I don't even know how that was possible but it was like a heavy period every day. When I called the OB and other clinics everyone said "you signed a waiver". OK well no one said if I had a problem. I stopped depo and like a silly college kid that I was convinced to take depo 6 months later, the OB said my body may be different and again I had my period for 6 more months. Thank goodness there were no effects accept the annoyance of bleeding every day for 18 months all together. This shot does work why have sex bleedin"

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I always had regular periods and never took contraceptives & have no kids. I took Spironolactone for severe acne at age 49 and I had non-stop bleeding/spotting for nearly 2 months afterwards. The bleeding got worse and terrible cramps started. I have anemia and also a large fibroid. Ended up in the emergency room. Provera 10mg 3 times a day & Tranexamic acid 500mg 3 times 2 tablets were prescribed. I did not take Provera at first because I was worried, it's another hormone pill. A day later, I noticed Tranexamic only works for 8 hours and if the next dose comes late, I bled heavily again. So, I started taking Provera. Miraculously, within 3.5 days, the bleeding stopped. Side effects were reasonable: cramps, headache. I read all reviews before taking Provera and saw a 35% chance. I am glad I took the pill because it worked for me. I found a common negative review. All women stated they never had regular periods and they were on and off contraceptive pills before the irregular bleeding. I feel for all women who go through this; it is awful!"

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I received my second Depo provera shot early October after having it once before and while I was 17/18. My mood swings are horrible still, breast tenderness is outrageous I also have had the worst cramping pain (worse than IUD pain). It was unbearable when I first started ovulating I could not lay flat in bed, had a heating blanket and heating pad on my lower back and abdominal area for a week. I took midol and ibuprofen like the doctors told me and nothing has stopped this. I have clots coming out, they want me to come in again to poke at me. Just super put out and exhausted. I am sleeping up to 10-12 hours a day. It has caused me to have less ambition at my work place too. I am very active as I am a CNA at the hospital but I bleed through my pants at least 2 times a shift. My acne is horrible around my chin and my stomach is sore from the on/ off bloating. It brought tears to my eyes finding this page and seeing I am not alone in this."

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I have been receiving the Depo shot since July 2013. This has been my first and only birth control I've taken and a huge benefit is that I am not worrying about taking a pill. However, for the past 6 months I have experienced spotting. It is not enough blood to need to wear a tampon, however it is very dark blood which stains underwear. This has been extremely frustrating to me and I am now trying to decide what will be my next best option of birth control will be."

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I go the shot in late August and a week after getting the shot I bled continuously with no signs of stopping for 14 days and I was panicking and found this site. I scrolled for hours and found a comment that saved me!!!! If you are continuously bleeding go get some raspberry leaf tea and drink 4 cups of it a day.( I would just permanently the night before put two tea bags in a 16 ounce glass bottle with honey and let sit over night) I took this for two days and the bleeding was still there but very light. However I needed it to stop completely because my boyfriend of a long distance relationship was coming that weekend. So I went on amazon and ordered natural estrogen supplements and took those with the tea every day and the bleeding completely stopped after 4 days and I haven’t bled since. The estrogen supplements also stopped my bad mood swings and my heat flashes as well, I feel back to normal. I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU GUYS GET YOUR LIFE BACK"

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "It’s a good medicine overall I had really heavy bleeding and got sent to the hospital and they put me on this which was 10mg for 20days and I stopped bleeding 12 days into it . But after reading some of these comments makes me so worried because once I stop it I’ll have the “break through” bleeding. So my thing is, how are you going to put someone on something for so long then when they stop taking it then it’ll come rushing again. Hmm."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I have been taking Provera since July 2019. I have had heavy periods for years and started a very irregular pattern in Dec 2018. The doctor put me on it to thin out my lining and correct a hormonal imbalance. I've had one period that was very light in Sept and haven't had another one. I am having a D&C for a polyp removal and am hoping I am finally done with heavy bleeding. Provera has saved my sanity."

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "This is my second shot and I am still bleeding like the first one. The shot is supposed to work for 3 months, but for some reason, I get about a month only. After that, I literally have my period every day til I get my next shot. This shot has not been helpful at all. On top of getting my period every day for 2 months, I gain weight like crazy too. Too many cons, I would rather not be on the shot."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I am a 51 year old female. In January 2008 I had a light period that lasted for 4 days and then stopped. Five days later I started bleeding again. I had such a heavy flow with clotting that I had to change every 2 hours. After the 14th day, I began to get very weak. My mother convinced me that this was not normal and to see a gynecologist. On day 16 of this heavy bleeding I went to the gynecologist. She told me I was going through menopause and prescribed Provera. On the next day, I was to take 20mg for 10 days. After 2 days, I stopped bleeding. On day 12 my doctor told me I needed to do this for the next 3 months and each month would get better and it would help me through menopause. I do not feel good at all when I take the Provera."

Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "If I could give this shot 0 rating I would. Lets start with I've always had a normal period before this unexplained side effect of a shot. This shot was administer to me in April and I didn't stop bleeding until July 31st. After doing my own research and taking matters into my own hands it has finally stopped. I went to the doctor countless of times trying to figure out how to stop the bleeding. I took (BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES) if I could type that in bold letters and in a bigger font I would. When I tell you on the first day of taking it the bleeding was much lighter and on the 5th day it was gone. All I took was one tablespoon daily."

Provera (medroxyprogesterone) "I am 43, and Doctor says I am perimenopausal. My progesterone is not high enough. I did not have my period since November. My doctor prescribed me Provera. Have taken for 5 days and started my period on a second day after taking the last pill. Started bleeding like a normal flow on Tuesday. Had minor cramping. Since Tuesday cramping was getting worse and worse. And today on Friday could not go to work as I am passing large blood clots. Have to change super pads every hour. Can't wait for this nightmare to stop. How long can this heavy part last? The last 24 hours were awfully heavy, losing too much blood. Should I go to emergency room? Or should I wait? My doctor said to wait it out. But I am crying, and feeling miserable."
