"I've been taking this shot since October. I've been bleeding nonstop since December. It went from a 2-week period to a 2-month period. I've taken meds to help & nothing! This is horrible. It's like I'm on the shot for no reason."

"I’ve been on the Depo injection for 3+ years and have never had any bleeding. Until my last injection on 23rd Feb 2021, I have been brown spotting for 1 week and have woken up this morning with full-blown red blood. I was so scared, and I’m so glad I found this forum, which shows it’s been happening to a lot of other women recently."

"I've been on Depo-Provera for 2 years this month. It was great! Had little to no periods, light spotting for a week before I had gotten my next shot. Didn't have to worry about taking pills daily. I had no side effects at all. I was actually losing weight. But, the last shot I had back in March, they informed me that there was a new type of Depo formula that took the place of the Depo that my body was used to. Ever since then, my period has not stopped. I gained 20 pounds in one week of water weight. My cramps have been terrible to where I can't eat. I feel as though I'm pregnant at all times. I go Tuesday to either get checked to see if I need to be off it. Anyone else experienced this since they've changed it?"

"I'm 41 years old. I've been taking Provera for a month now. It stopped my bleeding the first month, but then it came back in full force, and I haven't stopped bleeding yet, and it's been a month. I was put on it because of my anemia and fibroids because my blood was low due to the loss of blood. I have been feeling very weak, bleeding heavily, and having horrible pain, going back to the doctors due to the pain and bleeding. I cannot take the pain, and I stopped taking the pill."

"I got the Depo shot in October 2014. It is now February 2015, and I have been either spotting or full-on bleeding since then. I can't have sex because I start to bleed as if my period just started. I've been on and off the Depo for four years, and this is the first time I've had a bad experience with it. I also gained 25 pounds since October, but I eat healthily and go to the gym regularly."

"I was bleeding for 7 weeks lightly, and then all of a sudden it came, and I was passing large clots and a lot of blood. My doctor put me on Provera 10mg twice a day. I had a horrible headache and felt tired, but my period did stop, which is great."

"I've been on this for a few months. I'm very bad at remembering to take the pill every day at the same exact time, so I figured the shot would be perfect. And I know it's still a little too early to determine whether or not I like it. I got my period in December, and she administered the shot. I haven't stopped bleeding since, and it's almost March! I spoke with my doctor, and she told me it was totally normal and it was my body getting used to the medication, but I very much dislike it. I've been VERY moody, and I get so turned off by food that sometimes I just go through the day drinking fluids. This has only been from one shot, but I'll see where it goes. If it continues to go downhill, I have to switch back to the pill."

"I was prescribed these to delay my period for 3 weeks while on holiday, they delayed it for about 7 days, but I still got my period, then had heavy, irregular bleeding for approximately 2 months. I have PCOS, so my periods are extremely irregular but only last 5 days and are light to normal. This medication wasn't any good for me at all, and along with the spontaneous, heavy bleeding, I had terrible pain and large clots. I'll never take them again. I've had northisterone in the past to delay my period, and they were brilliant. This is just my experience, and every woman is different."

"I have been taking Provera since July 2019. I have had heavy periods for years and started a very irregular pattern in Dec 2018. The doctor put me on it to thin out my lining and correct a hormonal imbalance. I've had one period that was very light in Sept and haven't had another one. I am having a D&C for a polyp removal and am hoping I am finally done with heavy bleeding. Provera has saved my sanity."

"I have been receiving the Depo shot since July 2013. This has been my first and only birth control I've taken, and a huge benefit is that I am not worrying about taking a pill. However, for the past 6 months, I have experienced spotting. It is not enough blood to need to wear a tampon, however, it is very dark blood, which stains underwear. This has been extremely frustrating to me, and I am now trying to decide what my next best option for birth control will be."

"I received my second Depo Provera shot early October after having it once before and while I was 17/18. My mood swings are horrible still, breast tenderness is outrageous. I also have had the worst cramping pain (worse than IUD pain). It was unbearable when I first started ovulating. I could not lay flat in bed, had a heating blanket and heating pad on my lower back and abdominal area for a week. I took Midol and ibuprofen like the doctors told me, and nothing has stopped this. I have clots coming out, they want me to come in again to poke at me. Just super put out and exhausted. I am sleeping up to 10-12 hours a day. It has caused me to have less ambition at my workplace too. I am very active as I am a CNA at the hospital, but I bleed through my pants at least two times a shift. My acne is horrible around my chin, and my stomach is sore from the on and off bloating. It brought tears to my eyes finding this page and seeing I am not alone in this."

"If I could give this shot a 0 rating, I would. Let's start with I've always had a normal period before this unexplained side effect of a shot. This shot was administered to me in April, and I didn't stop bleeding until July 31st. After doing my own research and taking matters into my own hands, it has finally stopped. I went to the doctor countless times trying to figure out how to stop the bleeding. I took (BLACKSTRAP MOLASSES), if I could type that in bold letters and in a bigger font, I would. When I tell you on the first day of taking it, the bleeding was much lighter, and on the 5th day it was gone. All I took was one tablespoon daily."

"I took Provera for 21 days to treat very heavy nonstop bleeding. I am 45. At first, it drastically reduced my bleeding for a few days, but the bleeding continued quite heavily again until the last 4 days of being on it."

"It’s a good medicine overall. I had really heavy bleeding and got sent to the hospital, and they put me on this, which was 10 mg for 20 days, and I stopped bleeding 12 days into it. But after reading some of these comments, it makes me so worried because once I stop it, I’ll have the “breakthrough” bleeding. So my thing is, how are you going to put someone on something for so long, then when they stop taking it, it’ll come rushing again? Hmm."

"I am a 51-year-old female. In January 2008, I had a light period that lasted for 4 days and then stopped. Five days later, I started bleeding again. I had such a heavy flow with clotting that I had to change every 2 hours. After the 14th day, I began to get very weak. My mother convinced me that this was not normal and to see a gynecologist. On day 16 of this heavy bleeding, I went to the gynecologist. She told me I was going through menopause and prescribed Provera. On the next day, I was to take 20mg for 10 days. After 2 days, I stopped bleeding. On day 12, my doctor told me I needed to do this for the next 3 months and each month would get better, and it would help me through menopause. I do not feel good at all when I take the Provera."

"When I was first on Depo Provera, I bled for 6 months straight. The OB said my body had to get used to it and I would need another cycle, so I took the shot for another 6 months, and lo and behold, I had bleeding every day for 1 year. I don't even know how that was possible, but it was like a heavy period every day. When I called the OB and other clinics, everyone said, 'You signed a waiver.' OK, well no one said if I had a problem. I stopped Depo, and like a silly college kid, I was convinced to take Depo 6 months later. The OB said my body may be different, and again I had my period for 6 more months. Thank goodness there were no effects except the annoyance of bleeding every day for 18 months altogether. This shot does work, why have sex bleeding?"

"I got the shot in late August, and a week after getting the shot, I bled continuously with no signs of stopping for 14 days, and I was panicking and found this site. I scrolled for hours and found a comment that saved me! If you are continuously bleeding, go get some raspberry leaf tea and drink 4 cups of it a day. I would just permanently, the night before, put two tea bags in a 16-ounce glass bottle with honey and let it sit overnight. I took this for two days, and the bleeding was still there, but very light. However, I needed it to stop completely because my boyfriend of a long-distance relationship was coming that weekend. So I went on Amazon and ordered natural estrogen supplements and took those with the tea every day, and the bleeding completely stopped after 4 days, and I haven't bled since. The estrogen supplements also stopped my bad mood swings and my hot flashes as well, I feel back to normal. I hope this helps you guys get your life back."

"Is there a class action suit against this company? We need to start one! After getting 2 Depo Provera shots, I bled for a year and a half straight! I had 3 blood transfusions until my doctor said there is no other option other than a hysterectomy. I was 39 years old then and was planning on having another baby with my husband, but I couldn't. My blood level was 5.3 at one point, my doctor said it was the lowest he had ever seen in any patient."

"I am 43, and the doctor says I am perimenopausal. My progesterone is not high enough. I did not have my period since November. My doctor prescribed me Provera. I have taken it for 5 days and started my period on the second day after taking the last pill. I started bleeding like a normal flow on Tuesday. I had minor cramping. Since Tuesday, cramping was getting worse and worse. And today, on Friday, I could not go to work as I am passing large blood clots. I have to change super pads every hour. I can't wait for this nightmare to stop. How long can this heavy part last? The last 24 hours were awfully heavy, losing too much blood. Should I go to the emergency room? Or should I wait? My doctor said to wait it out. But I am crying and feeling miserable."

"I only had one shot. It lasts 3 months. During those months I got my period the first month and not the other two. Now I came down to Trinidad on vacation before I was able to get my second shot. Now I've been bleeding for 3 months straight. I know this is abnormal. I have the worst cramps, and my whole body hurts."

"Provera did not work for me. When I had my last period, before the operation to get fibroids removed, I had some really heavy period bleeding, I could not leave home. I had to go to A&E, where a GP prescribed Provera to me. The drug calmed the bleeding down for a few days, but it never stopped it. On some days, I would have really heavy bleeding with massive clots. During 2 weeks, I had to visit A&E a couple of times again, trying to explain that the drug was not working. I was assured again and again that since my operation was taking place in a couple of weeks, there was no point in changing the drug. In my third week of bleeding, it became extremely bad, it was pouring out non-stop for hours. I ended up in A&E again, where I collapsed at the reception and was admitted to the hospital. I was given an injection of Tranexamic acid that stopped the bleeding, and I was prescribed Norethisterone instead, which worked much better!"

"I had my baby 5 months ago and decided, why not get on Depo, so I won’t get pregnant again. I’ve been bleeding since I left the hospital from giving birth. That was 5 months ago. I’ve been so depressed and weak. IDK what to do."

"I really wish I saw this page before I took the Depo. :( I got onto birth control to be with my boyfriend, and for the first month, I only had spotting for 3 days and it stopped. Then around the 2nd month, I bled very heavily and passed a huge placenta-sized clot. Scared me to death. I had panic attacks and depression for a week. Went to the doctor because I felt so sick I thought there was something seriously wrong with me. They said, 'it's normal,' gave me ibuprofen, and left me on my way. The bleeding stopped for 4 days and started again. I haven't had sex with my boyfriend in so long, and I'm so tired of bleeding. I'm tired, sad, and angry all the time. I can't have sex without there being so much blood. The amount of shame, sadness, and embarrassment I feel is immeasurable. I'm so mad the doctors never told me any of this would happen, and now I'm scared it's going to last longer. I'm so tired of crying over this."

"My shot ended in August, and since then I have been constantly bleeding. I went in and saw a doctor about this issue, and they told me to take 3 pain relievers 4 times a day to stop the bleeding. I have tried that, and I am still bleeding. I will never get on this shot again. I have been on this shot before and never had issues like this."
