"I had heavier than usual periods, passing multiple clots. It finally sent me to the hospital, where I had to have a blood transfusion because my hemoglobin levels were at 4.7 and should have been at 15. My GP said I should really see my OB/GYN. I took an ultrasound and found out that I have multiple fibroids, which is the reason I was bleeding heavily. She gave me Provera to slow the bleeding. I take 10 mg 2x a day only when my periods start. It has slowed to a crawl. This is a miracle, it’s working for me so far. I hope it continues to work."

"I received my first dose of the shot in the beginning of May, and I have been constantly bleeding ever since! I was told that after my 3rd shot, the bleeding would stop, but it hasn't. I'm considering switching to the pill at the end of this month. I cannot take this bleeding anymore."

"I am 52 years old and clearly have been through the change of life. I've had no period for years. All of a sudden, I have some spotting, so I go to my doctor. He does a surgical procedure to scrape the lining of my uterus and then puts me on 2, 10 mg Medroxyprogesterone a day for 20 days. Four days after my last pill, the bleeding started. I have NEVER had such a bad period in all of my 52 years of life! I have had 3 children, and this is worse than the labor of all three!! I will NEVER take that medicine again!! They can do a hysterectomy and take the womb I haven't needed in decades. I can't even leave the house because when I stand up, I gush blood!! Roll over in bed, gush blood!! Not Happy!! Why didn't my doctor warn me about this?????"

"I’ve taken Depo a while back when I was around 17/18. I’ve never experienced bleeding like this. I recently got the Depo-Provera injection again because I have really horrible periods and extreme cramps, so I decided that I would go back on Depo. It was the worst thing I ever did. I experienced light spotting when I received my first injection, but I went in for my second around July 2020, and I’m still bleeding nonstop, and it’s getting very overwhelming because I can’t have sex with my boyfriend, or if I do, I have to take a shower first. It’s really annoying. I don’t recommend it to anyone, you’ll be depressed for months."

"I have been taking the Depo-Provera for over 20 years, never had a period until a little over a year ago, and now it comes and goes whenever it feels like. I never know when to expect it. I just thought this was normal due to the fact I had been on it so long, but then I went for my last injection a few days ago, and I brought this up with my doctor, and he told me this was not normal and is quite concerned and is now sending me to have a bunch of tests and freaking me out, wondering what could be wrong. Now I am reading all these reviews and thinking myself they have changed the product as everyone seems to be having similar issues. Time to change to something different, I think!"

"I took Provera 5 mg for abnormal uterine bleeding. Basically, my period went on for almost three weeks. I went to the hospital (had an ultrasound & everything was fine). They told me to take the pills for 7 days once a day. I took 2 a day for 3 days & the last pill on the 4th day. I'm a heavyset girl, so 10 mg wouldn’t have hurt me. The first day I took them, I took them in the morning & by the afternoon, the bleeding stopped. Throughout my taking the medication, I had no bleeding. Three days after the last pill was taken, my period came on. I just woke up one morning & I was spotting. By that night, I was bleeding very heavily. I wanna say the heaviest I have ever been, but most of it was blood clots. All sizes. That went on for about 5 days, then the 6th morning it almost instantly stopped. I was spotting very lightly & by that night it completely stopped. I’m a 20-year-old, by the way. I have not been diagnosed with PCOS or anything of the sort."

"I got this shot back in July. I went to the clinic for Depo Provera, and I really thought this was gonna help. I guess I was wrong. Ever since August, I have had irregular bleeding but not a period, just spotting and bleeding that happens at random times, and I always get blood on my underwear, and I don’t want to wear pads every single day. It’s been 7 months now, and I’m still having this problem. I know it’s normal to have irregular bleeding, but it should have stopped by now. This shot has been no help, and I’m always having cramps and bleeding, and I’m miserable. And if I stop the shot, I’ll bleed for even longer, and I really don’t want that. I don’t know what to do to make my periods regular and make my long periods never happen again. I don’t know if I should switch to the IUD 'cause I’ll probably have more side effects, and I’m sick of it. Never should have gotten this shot. Big regret."

"I was having severe bleeding with large clots which lasted for 3 weeks. Finally, I saw the doctor and he gave me 10mg for 10 days. This is day 9. I stopped bleeding 2 days ago. I love this medicine, really. I'm hungry more often, but that's okay. Unsure what will happen when I stop taking it."

"I bled for 3 months straight with blood clots that were as big as a strawberry. The doctor put me on Provera to stop my period, the dose was 2 pills a day for 30 days. It worked... Then the next month, I didn't bleed for 2 months. The doctor put me back on Provera to start my period for 10 days, and it worked again."

"I started bleeding July 15, and it’s now Sep 14. I went to my doctor, they did an ultrasound, they said everything looked fine, blood work came back fine, and that sometimes it’s just the way it is, not knowing why I’m bleeding so much! Anyways, I threw a fit with the doctor, told her bleeding during intercourse and so much is not normal! She tried to tell me it was the positions we were doing, and I said no, I just want to know why. So she prescribed Provera 10 mgs, 1 tablet a day for 10 days. I am now on day 6, and the bleeding went from a little to so heavy I am changing my pads every hour! My cramps are unbearable, and there are so many blood clots! I just emailed my doctor to see what she says, fingers crossed that she can help give me answers!"

"I got Depo-Provera on June 10 at the hospital after giving birth to my daughter. Today is September 15 and I have not stopped bleeding at all! I also have two friends who have the same problem. This shot is terrible!"

"I thought the shot would be easy due to the fact of taking it every three months compared to the pill taking it every day, but the shot does not work for my body! I have been bleeding for over a month now. I am going back to the pill."

"Good evening, I stated my cycle like normal, only it lasted over a month. I freaked and went to the doctor because I was going insane. Got given a 14-day course of Provera, and I've been taking it for 2 days now, and the bleeding has stopped completely. I'm scared that if I stop taking it, I'll start to bleed again. I have to go back to get the ultrasound to figure out what happened. I've always had irregular periods, but normally I just would skip 3 or 4 months and start lasting 4-5 days most of the time, it's stress. This time it started and was beyond heavy. Not a lot of pain, though. I wish everyone hope for the madness we all share. Thanks for the comments. It's helped me a lot."

"I got my first Depo-Provera shot the third week of October 2019. It is now June, I've had 4 shots, and I’ve bled almost every day. Sex is painful because progesterone makes me dry, and I’m bleeding all the time. Almost 9 months straight of bleeding. I want to stop, but I’m trying to wait for the 12-month mark where they said bleeding stops. We will see."

"I was bleeding heavily for a month with extremely large blood clots that made it difficult and stressful to even leave the house. It was seriously affecting my quality of life and emotional well-being. My doctor prescribed Provera 10mg twice a day for ten days. After the second dose, the blood clots had completely disappeared. By the third dose, no bleeding at all. This medicine was like a miracle for me. I am happy to have my life back. I noticed I am having a headache, but it's not that bad. I'll take a headache any day over the suffering I endured with that excessive bleeding/clotting."

"I started the depo at my 6-week check-up after my 4th child. I get it every 3 months and have received a total of 3 shots so far. I have been bleeding with a light period ever since the day I first got it. It's not as heavy as my usual period, but it's enough to have to always wear a pad."

"I'm 18 years old. I never been on any other birth control but the 3 months on Depo-Provera... I bled for 2 months as well as depression. I was PMSing the full 2 months. Caused problems in my relationship because of it."

"I never comment on stuff like this, but I must share my experience to help other women who have also had a bad experience with Depo Provera. I will get straight to it. I took the shot October 15, 2019, I stopped bleeding this morning. I purchased evening primrose from GMC, 1300 gel capsules, and I take 3 gel ibuprofen. I started taking the primrose after reading another post, and she stated she stopped bleeding in one day. I was tired of the doctor telling me, 'You have to wait for it to get out of your system.' I took matters into my own hands. Because of one of you ladies, I stopped bleeding. I will continue to take them until there is not a dot of blood left in my pad. Like I said, I take 1300 evening primrose. I have seen women take a higher dose, this dose works for me, and I take 600mg ibuprofen. I wouldn’t recommend taking that dose every day, use at your own discretion. NSAIDs are nephrotoxic. This works for me, and I don’t plan on taking the NSAIDs for too much longer."

"I have been on Depo Provera since Dec. 6, 2015. Started bleeding on January 6, 2015, and it hasn't stopped since then! I had my second injection last Saturday, and I'm hoping that the bleeding will stop. It's effective in preventing pregnancy, but it's greatly affecting my sex life."

"I got the 3-month Depo Provera injection. I experience irregular bleeding (having periods after every 2 weeks and spotting in between). This occurred for 3 months 'on the Depo Provera.' I did not go back for another shot because I switched to a copper IUD straight after the 3 months were over. I bled every single day (and not spotting) for nearly 3 months and 2 weeks. I guess it took nearly three months for the shot to wear off for the bleeding to stop completely. Worst nightmare. Was always tired, hair started to fall, experienced depression, low sex drive. I discouraged all my friends from taking this."

"I’m a 27-year-old woman. I was diagnosed with PCOS at age 25, but always had irregular periods. Last May, I had a tube removed because it ruptured due to ectopic pregnancy. Around April, I missed my period, and it did not come for a month and a half. Then I started spotting for weeks. I finally went to the doctor, and they prescribed a birth control pill, 2 a day for 2 weeks, which did not work and caused the bleeding to get heavier after I finished the pills. It also caused me to have lower back pain, tender breasts, and diarrhea every day. Now I’m on Provera 10 for 10 days. Currently, on day 3, the cramps are horrible, and the bleeding is super heavy, and I still have all the same symptoms, plus a headache similar to a hangover. I am so tired of bleeding and being told it’s normal. I feel so depressed and hopeless. I’m going to stick with it though, because it’s my only hope atm."

"I have been on Depo for twenty years and today have a full-blown period. I mean, horrible cramping and all. I have never once had breakthrough bleeding or even a drop in 20 years. I received my injection on Jan 4th."

"My shot ended in August, and since then I have been constantly bleeding. I went in and saw a doctor about this issue, and they told me to take 3 pain relievers 4 times a day to stop the bleeding. I have tried that, and I am still bleeding. I will never get on this shot again. I have been on this shot before and never had issues like this."

"Was prescribed this drug once a day for heavy bleeding that would not stop. I am 48 years old and I guess going through the change. It took 3 weeks but this med made the bleeding go away. To the ladies that have only been taking a few days and still bleeding, give it some time before you give up."
