"I've been having bad stomach aches for the past 6 days, finally realized it was constipation. My boyfriend went to the 24-hour CVS and got me some MOM around 3:30 am, took 4 tbs at 4:10, had a bottle of water, felt the urge to go 30 minutes later."

"Speaking on behalf of my personal experience, not generalizing it—I know everyone’s different. Milk of Magnesia definitely did the job in terms of allowing me to finally produce a bowel movement, but the process wasn’t the smoothest, and that’s not me saying it should’ve been, but it was worse than I expected. First of all, why would they recommend taking this before bed? I did so and constantly had to get up minute after minute, hour after hour, up and awake the entire night trying to relieve myself - it was a huge inconvenience. Secondly, I did have cramps, and they were almost intolerable, it felt worse than my actual period cramps. Like I said before, this product does do the trick, but the process of it for me was too much, almost unbearable. I will not be using this again, I can’t imagine what would’ve been the outcome if I took it earlier in the day when I had to work."

"Ok, never again! I took this within the dosing recommendations. I went to sleep, and six hours later, at 3 a.m., I was awakened and was in the bathroom for an hour and a half. I felt horrible. The next morning, two more “episodes.” I feel weak and tired. The explosive nature is making me fear I will end up with a bladder infection on top of everything else. Never will I use this again. Worse than colonoscopy prep! I would recommend to anyone trying this to go half the dose recommended. Use the age 6-11 dose, or better yet, don’t use it unless you want a whole day ruined. I will say that it worked, though."

"Continue: I quickly went to the Walgreens, which happens to be 3 minutes away from my apt! I got it and came back and immediately took the maximum dose, which was 60 mL, and then waited for the miracle (it’s 9:55 AM!) 15 mins, nothing! 30 mins! Nothing! 1 hour, 2, 3, 4! Damn! It felt like I was being punished for something! 5 hours! No! 6! No... I felt some bowel movement! It was bubbling! I knew something was going on! Long story short, finally, after about 10 hours, at ~8 pm, I was rushed to the bathroom! My doctor told me not to strain! It was almost there, but it wasn’t going to work without strain! I strained a little bit! Then, the miracle happened. OMGoodness, the relief! It was one of the best moments of my entire life! SUCH a RELIEF! Thanks to all the scientists who made this marvelous product!"

"I experience chronic constipation due to the medications I am on. If I don't take something, I cannot go! I use Milk of Magnesia for workdays when I want to be in control of my bowels, as it is less 'demanding' than stimulant laxatives. IMPORTANT! For best effects, take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with a full glass of water, the more the better. Depending on the condition of your bowels, it will kick in between 4 hours to 12 hours. I take the maximum recommended dosage, and it will move my bowels enough to make me comfortable for a day or so. I use a stimulant laxative on weekends to flush my bowels out and prepare me for another week. This works for me well, personally."

"I was constipated for 1 week (the usual), so I took the maximum amount. Oh, and I took the “Original flavor” because that's what was in my house. And it tastes like dead fish and baby diapers, so when I take a cap full, I throw a Starburst in my mouth along with water, hehe. So, on Tuesday, I took a dose because my tummy was severely bloated. But only a little came out. Then, on Thursday, I had a huge blowout (it was amazing). No cramps, but I was weak and had some nausea and felt faintish, but it was bearable. I just ate on time and drank lots of fluid. Then, on Friday, I'm starting to feel a little better. Still weak and slight nausea, and occasional bowel movements. I took Lipton to make my #2 just a little harder. But I love MOM. Used it 3 times so far, and it always works."

"So I took this Milk of Magnesia around 10:00 pm, and it’s now 3:50 am, and whew! Oh my goodness! I haven’t pooped in 2 weeks. I drink water regularly and other juices, but I throw up a whole lot with being pregnant too. I start a new job in 5 hours, I pray this runs its course! Now! But overall, I went to sleep and forgot I even took the medicine, but it definitely works!"

"So I was pretty backed up (the usual for me), and I had been uncomfortable all day at work. Well, anyhow, when I got off, I didn't really have time to mess around, so I drank about half a bottle of this stuff. And let me tell you, magic! I poop with no problems about 2 hrs later, what a relief, beautiful. Thank you, Milk of Magnesia, I love you so much."

"On pain meds after an auto accident, I became constipated, no bowel movement for 3 days. Took 2 tbsp at 10 pm. First bowel movement at 1:30 am, another at 3 am. No cramping. Did get slightly nauseous, but well worth it to lose the pain, bloating, and frustration of not being able to go."

"Constipated. Took recommended dose, went to bed, slept well, got up, had coffee, breakfast, off to the bathroom. Regular evacuation, like old times, no problems, soft, controlled! No problems, back to regular, once a day, like times past! Life saver, love Milk of Magnesia! Will use again, when needed, if constipation is more than two or three days long."

"I have had chronic constipation for over a year now. I have tried everything! Miralax, Dulcolax, Tums, magnesium citrate, psyllium husk pills, and even prescription meds like Trulance and Linzess! None of them compare to MOM. I was feeling so bloated and backed up, my tummy looked 6 months pregnant. I was using saline enemas every other day, which I knew was not a great idea, but it was the only way to relieve the pain. I went to CVS to get more but saw MOM on the shelf and decided, what the heck? Took the appropriate dosage before bed, and sure enough, first thing in the A.M., it all came out. I was taking multiple trips that morning. Then, after each meal for the day, I would also find myself in the bathroom. Definitely would recommend this, as my constipation is probably one of the worst out there, but it worked for me."

"Only take this for constipation if you need to poop so bad that you won’t mind sleeping on your bathroom floor. 10 hours of 20 min intervals of liquid brown water. Started at 11 am with the minimal 30 mL. (I did not wait to do overnight because I had nothing but time seeing as I am out from work because of a surgery.) First dosage gave me nothing but some angry stomach noises, even with drinking plenty of water. Took a second dose, same day of 30 mL (still not exceeding the max of 60 mL) around 10:30 pm, nearly 12 hours later, and that’s when the trauma happened. Relief? Yes. In the way I wanted it to be? Absolutely not. I am exhausted with an aching butt hole, thankful for baby wipes."

"I was very constipated and felt horrible. I hurt so bad that all I could do was lay in bed and moan and groan. I drank MOM and got relief 2 hours later. I never write reviews, but I had to give credit where it's due. I feel so much better."

"Taking painkillers for shingles, I was constantly bloated and in pain with constipation. In fact, my stools were impacted. I tried several laxatives to no avail. Then I remembered as a child, Mom giving us Milk of Magnesia. So I got a bottle from the chemist. I did as the instructions said: 15 mL. It worked a treat."

"I have CIC (Chronic Idiopathic Constipation) from opiates I take for chronic pain (left shoulder replacement, 2 rods in my lower back, and right hip replacement). MOM works great, but the sometimes cramping and diarrhea makes me uncomfortable. Was on both Linzess & Relistor (injection) for a while, but the MOM is a good alternative. I only gave it an 8 due to the cramping & diarrhea."

"Was constipated due to pain meds. PCP recommended Miralax. Made me very crappy and gassy. Then told me to try Amitiza or Movantik--both are very $$$ even with insurance. Saw a GI and he recommended a high fiber diet (basically done by mixing high fiber cereal with another tastier cereal) and then adding 30 mL MOM. Nothing happened. Tried 45 and then 60 mL, but nothing. I hadn't gone properly in 7 weeks and felt bloated, so I drank a heap of MOM--gives you fluid--and 7-8 hrs later, WOW!! So much came out that I thought that I'd filled the entire bowl. Fortunately, it's a power flusher toilet. Took about 6 flushes but finally got it all down the drain. Felt so good. Now I won't wait as long. If no BM in 2 wks, drink a bottle & GO!"

"Milk of Magnesia is great for constipation. It tastes chalky, but what medicine tastes good? It took a couple of hours for me, but when it hit, it hit. First, my stomach was hurting worse than it's ever hurt, then it came. The movement I was waiting for. Luckily, I was in the restroom when the medicine hit, so I ran to a toilet stall, and that was the most I've ever pooped in my life. I was on the toilet for about an hour, but each time a mini explosion went off in the toilet, I could feel it emptying out my bowels. After using the toilet, I had some nasty-smelling gas for a while, but I felt much better. I highly recommend Milk of Magnesia for a stay-at-home laxative. Whatever you do, if you take this medication, don't set your plans on going anywhere. You need to stay at home and stay near a toilet, because when the Milk of Magnesia hits, your bowels won't wait. If you are not on the toilet when it starts hurting, you will have a nasty situation in your pants. I recommend this med."

"Having hyperemesis along with the constipation just meant that I was in a vicious circle. My body just did not allow me to consume the amount of water it needed, hence, the problem just got worse. Then I remembered my pharmacist recommended MOM (Milk of Magnesia), so I jumped online and came across this particular site to see the reviews. Having read the reviews, I thought, why not, let’s try it, can’t make me feel worse than I do already. So last night I took 35 mls of it at 9:30 with the recommended 8 ounces of water, and I went to bed. Firstly, let me tell you, I had the best sleep in three months, I felt at ease, and then at 5:30 am I felt like I needed to go to the toilet. Although I did have to strain to get things going, I cannot express how happy I was once things got moving!!! This stuff is just AWESOME!!!!"

"I had my wisdom teeth out, and a few days later, my pain medicine made me constipated. I felt that I had to go, and I tried, but it hurt sooooooo bad!! So I had my mom go out and get me this, and I took some before I went to bed, and in the morning, it kinda worked. (I didn't drink enough.) Then I took some more in the morning, and it worked like a charm."

"Absolute worst medication ever. I took the recommended dose and have never felt such pain in my abdomen, along with the absolutely worst nausea and diarrhea for the whole day and counting. I can’t express how bad of an experience this was."

"I was constipated horribly for about 2 days. Took two times the recommended dose. Figured why not, I got nothing but time. I also drank a 24 oz cup of hot water. About a half hour later, I pooped the most amazing poop. Diarrhea, yes. Cramping, no. Did go a lot longer than it needed to, but I did double the dose."

"This is a great product because I was constipated for 3 days. I took it at 10 a.m., and it took effect at 5 p.m. the same day. I added cups of water and a little prune juice, and everything was good. I was constipated due to GERD antacids. I was glad there were no cramps. MOM is a lifesaver for us with gut issues and digestion."

"I changed my diet about 6 months ago and just recently (the last month or so) have been experiencing constipation. Before this, it had been very few and far between. Roughly every 3-4 days is when I would have a BM, not comfortable at all. I finally caved after having horrible bloating and pain at work today. I went to the drug store and picked up a bottle of MOM. I took 2 tbsp about 7 pm. I didn't have any discomfort or gas, but I couldn't sleep very well either. Finally, about 1 am, the blockage is gone, and I'm so much more comfortable. I didn't experience any cramping, and the beginning was still somewhat difficult to pass, it was soft but very bulky still. I don't feel any further urges to go to the toilet, but it's only been 20 minutes."

"Took at 9 a.m., hoping to move bowels the same day, after days of horrible constipation and bloating. MoM claims it works within 6 hours, but nothing happened. I took another dose at bedtime, still without any movement. The following morning, I have awful diarrhea. It's so bad it gave me an anal fissure, and I've been taking Imodium and putting on lidocaine to ease the pain. Ridiculous to go from one extreme to the other. Yes, I should not have taken a second dose, but thought it would be fine since it did not work at all after 14 hours, and supposedly, you can take this daily. I thought this would just quicken transit time, but no, it stayed in my gut, mushed everything to liquid, and gave me the worst diarrhea ever. Never taking again!"

"I have had the worst constipation experience ever. It literally affected me for almost a month. I was gassy, bloated, heaviness in the bottom of my stomach, and an awful, awful pressure feeling in my rectum. I tried several OTC remedies with minimal (rock/pellet) results. I bought MOM Sunday and took my first dose (30 ml) — nothing and no signs of anything. I am absolutely miserable — can’t sleep, can’t eat, and now, after taking MOM, nauseous!!!! On Monday evening, I took 60 ml (and chased it with 8 oz of water — something I failed to do with the initial dose. I didn’t sleep well at all Monday night — but on Tuesday morning things began to happen (thank goodness!!!). Initially, it was hard medium-sized “rocks.” But I literally have had 3 BM’s today (that has never happened in my 61 years of living). I feel better today than I have in weeks. Plan to take a smaller dose tomorrow. MOM will have a place in my household from this day forward!!!!"
