For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I have tried this med for two weeks. Started off at the lowest dosage, which did nothing, and the dose was increased to 290 mcg, the largest single dose. My constipation goes back as far as I can remember, to at least when I was 3, if not even younger. This medication did absolutely nothing except make me nauseous and extremely dizzy. It also increased my heartbeat and made the beat a bit erratic, e.g., b.b.b.bbbb..b.b.bb.b.b. I have stopped it and have been referred to a gastroenterologist. Since I live in Canada and have extended health benefits through employers, most drugs are covered for 80%, and after a certain amount, the provincial Fair Pharmacare takes over. Neither covers this drug, however."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I used 72 mcg at first with no change. Then, due to chronic constipation, my gastroenterologist recommended no more laxatives, just Linzess 290. The first day, I had a bowel movement, but now I have severe bloating, nausea, and belly pain. My stomach is distended and very uncomfortable. Clothes don't fit right. Not sure what to do. I have a colonoscopy next Friday. Hoping that will diagnose the problem and get me feeling better soon!"

For Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Constipation "I haven’t seen any others talk about this side effect, but the nausea I get from Linzess is severe. I’m on the middle dose, so maybe I’ll try going down. I take it when I absolutely need to have a bowel movement and I know that I can stay in bed all day because of the nausea."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I have intermittent constipation. Primarily, I can get away with the small Fleet 4.5 fluid ounce enema bottles when I use multiple times by cleaning and refilling with warm water. I elevate my legs and torso for about 5 minutes. This almost always helps empty my lower bowel. However, not often, I start 'filling' up after 3 or 4 days, and I use one (145 mg) pill of Linzess with one Ducolax. Generally, within 5 to 8 hours, I have an initial regular stool movement and then a few hours of diarrhea that empties me. There are some cramps, peristalsis, a bit of nausea, and frequent (be near a bathroom) trips. Otherwise, other laxatives just do not work. Before, I found out about Linzess, I could use 6-8 Ducolax to get a movement. For me then, it's a great drug that I don't use often because the Fleet enemas work very well, which at times I use 3-5 times a week."

For Chronic Idiopathic Constipation "I was honestly VERY nervous to start taking this, but my GI doctor highly recommended at least trying it for 2 weeks, so I did. I will say within an hour of taking one 145 mcg pill, I was running to the bathroom, and let's just say it was a close call. Thankfully, I took my first dose on a Sunday as I had no plans. I had diarrhea, bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, and fatigue all day. As my body adjusted to it, my symptoms seemed to lessen, BUT I still have the explosive diarrhea about 1-2 hours after taking it. Also, I work a very busy job with very few chances for a break, but somehow I have always been able to go when I feel the urge. I am going to continue taking this as long as my insurance covers it!!"
