For Birth Control "So I decided to try a new method of birth control as I have been using the pill for the better part of the last 7 years. I am petite (4'10), 23 yrs old, nulliparous with mod-heavy painful periods. I got my Jaydess IUD (Skyla in the US) inserted just about 24 hours ago. Took 800 mg of Advil before the appointment. Do not let these reviews scare you about the pain. Honestly, it was about a 6/10, but the cramping wasn't the issue, it was more for the sharp insertion pain, which lasted tops 30 secs. They also used an ultrasound, which I thought was great. Afterwards, I did spot for a bit (day 3 of period), no cramps coming home, but I did have some mod during the night and took 400 mg of Advil. I feel great this morning, hope it all works out!"

For Birth Control "After being on the pill for 8 months, the side effects were too much for me to handle, so I gave up on all birth control and went back to just using condoms. After a recent condom scare, I started looking into other forms of BC, and my doctor recommended Skyla, as I have never given birth before. The insertion is definitely an uncomfortable and painful experience, but the initial pain itself only lasts for maybe 2 minutes. The night afterward, I had terrible cramps, and my heating pad was my best friend. I have now had it in for a month, and I will say that I absolutely love it. Very light spotting a few days, and a few cramps here and there, but nothing I couldn't handle. My period is almost nonexistent now too! Definitely suggest it!"

For Birth Control "I had the Skyla put in after my period cramps had gotten just too much to handle. The birth control side of it was also a big reason, as I have a long-term relationship, so Skyla seems to be a great option for me. My older sister had Mirena put in just a while before. And she said it hurt a great deal with insertion. So I was very nervous. I got it inserted, and it felt like a 6 on pain; not even comparable to some of the cramps I had previously. I bled the next day with moderate cramping. Within two days, the cramps were gone. The only thing bad about it is I spotted for about 2 cycles. Which isn't that bad because it's not a constant flow. It is only brownish dried blood that a pantyliner can easily handle. No symptoms ever after that! 2 yrs!"

For Birth Control "I got this inserted this past January (2017), and overall I love it. The insertion was very painful despite taking 800 mg of ibuprofen like my OBGYN said, but the procedure was only a couple of minutes. I had some residual pain for the rest of the night, but nothing a little more ibuprofen and a heating pad didn't fix. I woke up feeling fine. No other pain. My sex drive returned (had issues with taking estrogen with drive) in just two weeks, and my periods have gotten shorter and lighter each month, and currently I am only spotting. I have had no other issues with it so far, but maybe next time I'll ask for a prescription-strength pain med for the procedure."

For Birth Control "22, no babies yet. 3 months in, loving it, period only a few days late each month. Insertion went well, took two Advils an hour before, pain is like a bad period cramp but was only for like 20 seconds (you got this!) Choose a doctor that's used to doing it :) 6 weeks of adjustment spotting. Doc says it will be more stable after 6 months and I'll have smaller and less painful periods than ever (as of now they haven't been more painful compared to pre-IUD). No scares, string is easy to find. Partner felt it once, depends on position. No acne, no weight gain, no noticeable side effects other than the spotting (buy a bunch of black underwear :P Worry free because for 3 years :)"

For Birth Control "Okay, so the insertion of this thing sucked, and the 1-2 months following also sucked. It was painful, I basically had a period for a month and would have very regular spotting. My sex life was a little off as a result, but my husband was okay with that. Six months later, it was all worth it. Almost no period at this point, still cramping during that time - but nothing that can't be managed. My moods are balanced, and I'm so happy I did it. Everyone's experience is different, but I highly recommend Skyla if you have heavy periods. This did exactly what I needed it to, and my husband is pretty happy about not having to worry about condoms anymore. It makes 'being in the moment' a lot more fun :)"

For Birth Control "These reviews had me worried about the pain, but to be honest, the insertion wasn't bad at all. Yes, it was uncomfortable, but it was completely manageable. I'm 25 and have never had children. After insertion, there was slight bleeding throughout the day, but nothing major, just spotting. I would definitely recommend Skyla."

For Birth Control "I am 19 years old, I went to the OBGYN yesterday and got Skyla put in. I have had no kids and thought the pain was very tolerable and did not hurt at all. I did experience bleeding at first, then spotting and a bit of cramping, but not bad at all compared to the periods I experienced. Highly recommend."

For Birth Control "I got the Skyla about a year ago. I loved the idea of not having to buy expensive birth control. When it came to insertion, I had to insert it when I started my period. My doctor made me cough, and it felt like a horrible cramp. I've never had a kid, but I'll assume it was close to a contraction. I was crampy all that day and the next day. I spotted a lot, and my period eventually stopped coming within 6 months. I loved my Skyla, but after the 6 months, I started to become very angry and aggressive. I was sad and emotional. The Skyla affected my mood severely. I also had an increased sex drive. I wanted it more than my boyfriend, and nothing seemed to be enough. I have to get rid of the Skyla because of too much increase in my moods because of the hormones."

For Birth Control "I love Skyla. Since I got Skyla 10 months ago, I have never had to worry about being pregnant. My boyfriend and I have unprotected sex, and he doesn't pull out or anything 4-5 times a week, and I NEVER have to worry about the effectiveness. Getting Skyla inserted was nothing... I took a few Advils and a painkiller before insertion because I was so scared it was going to hurt, but it felt like mild discomfort and pressure for a few seconds. The worst part is the spotting. I spotted for about 2 months straight after I got it, and I still spot sometimes, but my periods are short and few and far between. I'm occasionally very emotional (once a month). I get random cramps sometimes, but it's not bad given how effective this is with hardly any side effects."

For Birth Control "Got Skyla inserted on 7/27/18. Wow, that was painful. I have a pretty high tolerance to pain, and I was prescribed something to soften my cervix, but it still hurt like anything! The pain lasted until 5 seconds after it was inserted, and I was fine. Minor cramping and spotting. I have been spotting off and on since, but I expected that. Sometimes I get contraction-like cramps, but nothing a little ibuprofen can't fix. So far, I like it a lot. I forget I have it most of the time. My bf felt it the first time we were intimate after insertion, but hasn't since. Overall, I think Skyla is and will be a good fit for me! We will see in the next few months!"

For Birth Control "I've recently gotten the Skyla inserted. It's easier than trying to remember the pill every day. However, I have been in constant pain since it was inserted, and I have been spotting/bleeding for weeks. It is quite uncomfortable, and the pain/bleeding gets worse after sex. It's bad enough that I cannot stand or walk at times because of the discomfort."

For Birth Control "I'm 21 with no kids. I got the Skyla put in today after reading these scary reviews and... yeah, it hurts, I won't lie to you. Y'all... I wanted to bite my gyno's head off, but true enough, it only lasted like 30 seconds tops. It's super quick, I went into the Dr. office at like 3 pm and was in my car headed home at 3:15 pm. Lol, I didn't bleed during the process, but around 8 pm I started spotting, and the pain is gone. I'll be back soon to update everything! :)"

For Birth Control "I've been using the IUD for almost 9 months now. I'm 24 years old. I got it inserted 01/2018. My coworker has the Mirena and said the insertion was not bad at all, although I read up on it and people said it was very painful. I went in for my appointment expecting the worst, and it was the worst pain I felt. I ended up flinching and asking to stop, but my doctor said, 'Almost done.' As soon as she was finished, I immediately felt lightheaded and nauseated. I had a few tears, lol. I did cramp for a few days and spotted for a few weeks to a month. Fast forward to late August, I've noticed that when I'm ovulating, I get sharp cramps to the point it literally feels like a contraction, and I have to hold onto something or hold my breath. My periods are regular, and before I had it, they were irregular and lasted 7 days with moderate bleeding. Now I would say about 5 days, maybe, and light to moderate. I will say the IUD is convenient, but I'm contemplating if the cramping is worth it."

For Birth Control "I got Skyla about a month ago, and so far, nothing crazy has happened. I have almost zero pain tolerance, so the insertion sucked. It was a lot of pressure, but pretty bearable up until he went to measure my cervix and was actually inserting the Skyla. I also haven't had any kids, so that also plays a factor. I had some pretty bad cramps the day of and the day after, but nothing after that. The only real complaint I have about it is the nonstop bleeding and spotting. It went on for about 3 weeks and finally stopped a few days ago. It's nice to not have to worry about taking a pill every day or going to get a shot every 3 months. If you're considering it, go talk to your OBGYN about your options and DO NOT go just off of what others say!"

For Birth Control "I got my Skyla almost 2 and a half years ago. I got it when I was 17, and I remember I was so nervous to get it inserted because I had read such horrifying reviews, but I took 3 Advil before my appointment, and it wasn’t that bad. The doctor talked me through it, and the insertion process only lasted 2-3 minutes. I remember the last part of it was a sharp pinch, and immediately after I was very crampy. I had bad cramps for about 2 days after, but I was still very much able to do daily things. I spotted just a little bit for 2 weeks following, and at the same time I stopped spotting, I began to get really bad cramps again. I thought that maybe the IUD had been moved or something, but it just turned out that I was getting my first period with the IUD. My periods were a lot more painful and heavy. After 2 months, I completely stopped getting my period, which is great! Being able to not have to take a pill or use a condom with my boyfriend is amazing!"

For Birth Control "Only posting to provide a positive experience with Skyla. I'm 24 and had Skyla inserted about 8 months ago. Insertion was definitely uncomfortable/painful (I was NOT on my period and they say that helps), but it was very quick and you'll get through it. I drove myself home and had the WORST cramps I've ever experienced just for a day or so. Heating pads and Midol were my best friends. I spotted a little bit right after it was inserted, and that was it! No more spotting, and then 2 weeks later I got my period like normal. I NEVER went through the weeks and months of spotting like some other girls did. My period has been like clockwork the past 8 months, and is light and lasts about 4 days, with little to no cramping at all. I've never been happier!"

For Birth Control "Super painful when I got it inserted. Almost fainted. Cramps continued and continued on and off for the LONGEST. I've been with it for almost a year now, and I'm still getting the constant cramping. Not to mention the constant spotting/bleeding for the first 4-6 months was horrible as well. It was told to me that my periods were gonna be lighter and cramps lighter as well. But I experienced the complete opposite. I did gain weight as well. I don't recommend this to anyone. Literally."

For Birth Control "Positives: sexual freedom and easy insert. Negatives: HORRIBLE acne, mood swings, periods lasting 10-20 days per cycle and spotting in between periods. I only lasted 6 and a half months on this IUD :( This is just my personal experience with this medication, other people experience it differently. The acne affected my self-esteem, and my mood swings made me feel vulnerable because I would be content one minute and the next minute I would feel sad, irritable, or anxious. I've had the IUD removed for 2 weeks, and my face is already clearing up (no new pimples), and my mood is stable. Thank God! My doctor told me that the symptoms would get better in 6 months, unfortunately, they consistently got worse over the months, and I couldn't put up with it anymore. I hope other women's experiences are better than mine."

For Birth Control "I got Skyla about 2 months ago, and the bleeding has not stopped. Pads and tampons have been a part of my life for the past two months, it's so annoying. The insertion pain wasn't that bad, it was just like a really strong period cramp. So far, I'm just annoyed with the bleeding and spotting, it's so inconvenient."

For Birth Control "Absolutely love Skyla! I had only used pills before, never had any terrible side effects from those, but I wasn't happy with them, so I decided to switch. My experience with getting it inserted was pretty much just heavy-period-like cramps that day and randomly for the next 2 weeks (I have never had children too and did not find the insertion painful, just crampy). My period was longer (but lighter) for the first 6 months, but now I just spot for a couple of days every other month, which is fantastic. I also love the freedom of not having to remember to do anything for my birth control! The only downside for me is that it only lasts 3 years."

For Birth Control "I had Skyla for 2.5 years before I finally had it taken out. The insertion/removal were both fairly painful. After insertion, I spotted for a month and felt generally uncomfortable. The random cramping and bloated feeling never went away. Sometimes I would cramp really badly and be doubled over in pain, but this would pass in a few minutes, so it wasn’t a deal breaker. I dealt with all this because I loved having a birth control that didn’t make me nauseous for once. The deal breaker was that I gained 10 pounds. I work out 5 times a week, follow a healthy diet, and no matter what I did, I kept gaining weight. My doctor denied this had anything to do with the IUD and instead blamed my getting older. Well, I listened to instinct and got it removed on Wednesday. It is now Saturday. I have lost 5 pounds in 3 days. I’m not saying everyone’s experience will be the same, but listen to your instincts and remember you have a continuous medicine in your body. I am SO THANKFUL I finally did."

For Birth Control "So I was extremely nervous to get an IUD because I heard it was horrible pain to get inserted. Then, at my appointment, they said I was too small for Mirena and offered to do Skyla, which I hadn't had a chance to Google or anything, so I was a little skeptical. I had psyched myself up for the appointment, so I ended up going ahead with Skyla. The pain of insertion was maybe 8 out of 10 and lasted for 10 seconds. I had horrendous cramps and bleeding the first 5 days after implantation. I recommend taking time off work and wish I had taken more than 2 days off. I had light spotting for about a month and have not had a single period or spotting since. It's been 6 months, I lost 15 lbs just from switching off oral pills. I LOVE SKYLA."

For Birth Control "I've had Skyla for 4 weeks now. Yes, insertion is very uncomfortable, but it is worth it. I only had cramps the first 3 days after insertion, and yes, those were uncomfortable too, but they stopped. I spotted for about a week after insertion, and I have not had any bleeding since. I also have noticed a serious improvement in lubrication (I was on NuvaRing), so sex is more enjoyable. Overall, I would recommend! Also, my boyfriend cannot feel the string, and I can't tell it's there."

For Birth Control "Having Skyla now for a few months has been the best decision. I did have some spotting in the beginning, but that’s gotten a lot better as a few months have gone by, and the best part is my periods have gotten lighter too. I also didn’t find the implantation that bad and even went to a concert that evening after my appointment in the morning. You definitely will have cramping afterward, but if you take it easy for a few hours, it shouldn’t be too bad later on. All in all, the spotting was a bit frustrating in the beginning, but that’s practically gone now. It really is a win-win decision. I also feel a lot more sexually protected and more in control of my body."
