For Birth Control "PHYSICAL EXPERIENCE: - Insertion hurt horribly like most people say - Intense cramping for the first 2 months - Period gone but spotting every 2 weeks that lasts 7 - 9 days, not enough for a tampon but enough to ruin all your panties - Bloating, hunger, acne, weight fluctuation, etc. all true - Cramping randomly and intensely 4 - 5 times per week EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE: - Irritability and mood swings OFF THE CHARTS - Feeling of constant weight on chest, depression, anxiety - Trouble sleeping, insomnia, worrying - Decreased libido, aches at the thought of having sex - When having sex I get into it & it's ok but harder to orgasm. It is November 27, removal scheduled for Nov. 30th... This is not worth it. I'd rather risk pregnancy..."

For Birth Control "The insertion process wasn’t too bad. There were mild period-like cramping for about two days, however, I spotted for a little over a month after. I’ve never been on birth control before, and I definitely experienced mood swings with Skyla and a lack of sex drive. I even started to break out in hives and rashes! My boyfriend felt the strings during sex, he described it as a needle-like sensation and was even cut a few times from the strings. If you feel the strings, DO NOT CUT THEM! This can make it worse and even make the removal process a nightmare. I had it removed today, and my gyno could not find the strings... it took her about 15 minutes and a sonogram to fish the IUD out. Luckily, she was able to catch them, or I would have needed surgery (this is something I was never warned about). My skin definitely changed, and I even started to break out a bit on my back. Everyone’s body reacts differently to BC, but I personally wouldn’t recommend an IUD to anyone."

For Birth Control "I am 18, I was a virgin. I had acne and horrible mood swings way before I got the Skyla IUD. I got it because of a natural hormonal imbalance. So, I got the Skyla, and it wasn’t painful at all, no kids, nothing. I didn’t bleed the first 2 weeks, I was due for my period and only spotted lightly (not even enough for a pad or tampon, I would just put a little piece of toilet paper in my underwear, it was that little), and that was it. So far I’ve had it for 3 and a half weeks, and I’ve only “spotted” for like 2ish days. Sex was fine, he couldn’t feel it. We did, however, wear protection (we’ve been together 2 years, both of us were virgins and we made sure we were both tested and safe, and literally waited 2 years to have sex in case someone wants to judge). Anyway, so far I love this, I’ve had a tiny bit of cramping, nothing serious at all. I haven’t had it for long, but so far I really like it a lot."

For Birth Control "I had the Skyla inserted Aug 28, 2017. I am now counting down the days to get this thing removed. So I had some light bleeding for roughly two months after insertion, as well as some crazy mood swings. Not a big deal, as it was to be expected, and I was okay with dealing with that for a few months because I do not want another child anytime soon, if ever. Then one day the bleeding stopped, and my mood swings followed suit. Everything was great, and I was happy with my decision. Then I got my period, it lasted roughly 2 wks. My back started breaking out, I started gaining weight, and my cramps got worse. I’m now 7 months in, and I hate this thing. Basically, I bleed for 3 wks and don’t for 2 wks, and my cramps are so bad they remind me of my pre-labor cramps. I’m still gaining weight, my back is so broken out I’m too embarrassed to wear a lot of my clothes. The only reason I gave it a 3/10 is because I didn’t get pregnant the one time a guy came inside of me."

For Birth Control "I had Skyla inserted in September 2016. I am 32 years old. BC pills started affecting my moods and sex drive so badly to the point where my fiancé and I sat down to discuss alternate options. Since I had Skyla inserted, I have lost about 20 lbs. Not saying this is a miracle weight loss device, but I do think the BC pills were keeping me very bloated and causing cravings. No depression or crazy mood swings. No pregnancies. Cons: The insertion hurt like hell. Ovarian cyst pain is back. Some months I get my period at a light rate for the whole month. I start to PMS, have breast sensitivity, and severe cramps 2 weeks prior to my period due date. Still low sex drive. The string from the IUD either fell off or the doc cut it too short and the IUD moved up a bit so that it is now just in my cervical canal or completely gone. When I do decide to have it removed, there is no waiting period to get pregnant. All in all, I do not regret getting Skyla."

For Birth Control "I had experienced mood swings with birth control pills and decided to follow my doctor's advice and get the Skyla IUD as a long-term solution. The insertion occurred in May 2017. I was on my cycle and only had a couple of Advil pills prior. The clamping of my cervix was horrible pain. I had a follow-up appointment to check the placement. I stated to my doctor that I had terrible cramps and pelvic pain, but she dismissed it. In addition, the Skyla was nowhere to be found. I then had to have a vaginal ultrasound, which resulted in it still being in place, but the strings had shifted upward. Pelvic pain, severe cramps, periods lasting for nearly 2 weeks, spotting, and spotting after sex made for a miserable experience. I wanted it out, but my doctor insisted I keep it in for 3-6 months. I went to remove it in January, and after 4 tries, she was unable to find it. I had to have a hysteroscopy finally to remove it, which revealed the strings in knots and one of the T-shaped arms twisted around the device."

For Birth Control "I got Skyla 6 months ago. Insertion was not really painful, but I did have cramps for about 14 hours afterwards, the first 5 being debilitating. I spotted consistently during the first 2 months. After that, my period would come for about 10 days with a combination of bleeding and spotting. For the last 2 months, I have been getting my period/spotting for 10 days at a time twice a month. I have been ridiculously emotional this past month with bouts of frequent crying. Also, each month before my period(s), I would get severe pelvic pain shooting straight up. I finally went to my doctor, and she said my body is rejecting the IUD. Although this IUD is effective, it has been a miserable experience, and I am switching to the patch."

For Birth Control "I am 23 years old with no children. I originally had the Skyla IUD inserted in October 2013. The insertion was not the worst part for me, like many other reviews are stating, having my uterus measured was horrible, especially when the measuring device reaches the walls of your uterus, it is instant horrible cramps. After the insertion, I had to sit in the lobby and wait for an ultrasound. It hurt to sit, I was sweating horribly and nauseous. Eventually, the cramping stopped, but I was left with very abnormal periods. Second time, October 2017. The pain was still just as bad, but not as much cramping, so that's a plus. I have somewhat noticed a lower sex drive and horrible mood swings, my fiancé can feel the strings sometimes during intercourse, also, sex has become very painful for me. Around November, I started getting very sharp abdominal pain, nausea, lower back pain, and couldn't go #2. I've seen my gyno a week ago, an ultrasound revealed ovarian cysts caused by Skyla, so I may have Skyla removed."

For Birth Control "I'm checking in for my 3-month experience with Skyla. My first month consisted of very bad cramps, and my period seemed to last for two weeks non-stop. My second month was better in cramping (little to none) and a week of bleeding with two days in between where I did not bleed at all. My period is pretty irregular, I don't really know when it comes until the day before. I get extremely emotional and start bitching at my boyfriend, haha. He helps me keep count and tells me when I start acting differently, and he's been right so far. I would get my period the next day or a few days after that. I don't feel cramping unless I am on my period, but it only lasted 3 days max. Taking Midol was a lifesaver because it took the pain completely away!"

For Birth Control "I’ve tried birth control pills twice before, and each time I gained approx. 10 lbs and had mood swings, so I decided to try an IUD. The insertion was pretty uncomfortable, and for the rest of the day, I had bad cramps, but besides the first day, it has been painless. I’ve had it for almost 7 months, and I still get periods (lasting about a week), but they’re much lighter. I do have to wear panty liners more (especially during the first couple months, you will spot a lot). The only negative side effects I have experienced have been slight moodiness/random sadness, and my eyes have developed a sensitivity to contacts, which just might be my body’s reaction to any birth control. But overall, I think it’s a great option!"

For Birth Control "Awful, had it less than a month. It was inserted Aug 12, 2021, and removed Sep 4, 2021. I was getting weight gain, packed on pounds... developed acne on my chest... mood swings. In the past, I had Mirena. I felt like it made me crazy. So years later, I tried Skyla because it is lower hormones, but the side effects with this were worse than the Mirena..."

For Birth Control "I had Skyla in for a month and had a pretty terrible experience. I'm 18 and very sensitive to hormones (I have PMDD), so that may be why it affected me so badly. I had extreme mood swings, and worsened depression and anxiety. It also gave me acne and fatigue. Also, my boyfriend said he could feel the strings."

For Birth Control "First of all, my doctor did not prescribe any pain medication or even tell me to take Advil before coming in to have Skyla inserted. I loved the idea of a 3-year birth control with no work, as I can hardly remember to take my daily vitamin every day! It was the worst pain of my whole entire life. I've had 160 lbs fall directly onto the top of my kneecap, and this experience was by far worse than that. I have longer, lighter periods now, which I hate because my period was perfect before, the standard 7-day period, and now I bleed randomly and there is no pattern at all. After it was inserted, I went to check out and felt so faint and sick I ran to the bathroom and almost threw up. I felt awful and like I was going to pass out. The mood swings suck."

For Birth Control "I got the IUD implant about 2 months ago, 24, no children. The insertion was unbearable for me. I had no idea how painful it was going to be. After that, I spotted forever, I have random stabbing spasm cramps, and I've experienced a different scent down there. Not a good one. I've never had a problem with this before, but after looking up reviews, there are tons of girls who experience that and a watery discharge constantly. It's extremely embarrassing. My mood swings are crazy, especially when I'm PMSing. I'm looking to have it removed ASAP. I regret going through that intense amount of pain for these results. Experiencing this actually makes me look forward to taking a pill every day."

For Birth Control "It's been 3.5 months, it was absolutely awful until a week ago. Insertion wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. It was uncomfortable, and I felt slightly crampy for about a week, nothing an Advil or two couldn't fix. During the adjustment period, my PMS was just monstrous. Cheers to my bf for staying by my side through it. I couldn't control my emotions AT ALL. I kept telling myself to give it 3 months, see if it'll calm down after my body gets used to it, and thankfully I'm feeling almost myself again. I got off my old BC, Ortho Tri-Cyclen, due to PMS. I was hesitant since it did wonders for my skin, but so not worth the mood swings. Skyla gets 7/10. Cons: breakouts, heavy periods, lots of spotting."

For Birth Control "I got on this birth control in July 2015. Never had kids and I'm 18 years old. I had many bad side effects. Bad cramping, mood swings, I slouched a lot while I was cramping, and there were times when I wasn't able to move or else it would start hurting more. I was completely in tears. On the good side, my period has been super light ever since I got on the birth control, but here's another bad outcome: my period lasts super long, it would last about 10 days. Usually, it would last 4 days. I like this birth control, but then I really hate it at the same time. I haven't gotten pregnant yet. So I think this birth control method that I had chosen was a good choice because it hasn't failed me."
