For Birth Control "Info: I'm 18 years old, about 130 lbs. I got the Skyla inserted 4 months ago. The insertion was painful but not for long. It was two stabbing pains and then nothing. I experienced some cramping, which was very bad around my first period. I also lightly spotted for 3 months straight. If you are considering it, let me tell you: INVEST IN A MENSTRUAL CUP. I spotted for months, and I don't know how I would have done it if I couldn't leave the menstrual cup in. It's been 4 months, and the spotting has stopped. I also lost the strings and had to get an ultrasound to find them, but it is still in the proper place. All things considered, I'm happy with it. The inconvenience I experienced is outweighed by how long it'll last and how easy it'll be."

For Birth Control "I was on the pill for nearly 2 years after I got my first period at 16. I switched to Skyla because I gained a lot of weight on the pill. The insertion was painful, it felt like fire had erupted across my lower abdomen. But for all the pain, it was worth it. I lost all of the weight I had gained on the pill in like 3 months. For the first 6 months, I spotted every day. For the next 10 months, I didn’t have a period. But now I’m coming up on 2 years, and I have irregular bleeding all the time with ferocious cramps. I’m on the pill on top of Skyla to try and regulate it. Hopefully, it helps."

For Birth Control "I've had the Skyla for about a year now, and for the most part, I love it... kind of. The insertion was very painful, I left the office right after trying to bear the pain (I usually have a high pain tolerance), but driving home I had to pull over twice and practically curl up in the fetal position for a few minutes before I started driving again. The first few months I had bad cramping, spotting, and a regular period for the most part. Since the third month, I haven't had any periods, just some discharge. I went to the doctors, they assured me the discharge is normal and can change due to the Skyla. Also, I get more UTIs and yeast infections since insertion (not sure if they're related). I really want to take it out, but I love having it usually."

For Birth Control "Skyla was the first form of birth control medication I have experienced. The insertion was extremely painful, and since the IUD was inserted, I have been in debilitating pain. The type of cramps I have received since the IUD was inserted are the type of cramps that hindered me with walking and even speaking. I was told to give the IUD a try for at least a month, and it was horrible. I have had to wear tampons every day because I have had brown bloody discharge for 30 days straight. I’m getting this IUD removed this week, and I cannot wait to have a pain-free life again. Oh, and I started my period today, and the pain is even worse, although I’m not gushing blood, the pain is preventing me from having a normal life."

For Birth Control "I had Skyla out 2 months ago. The insertion was a bit painful, but it was over quickly. I had some moderate cramping for a couple of days and slight spotting. At my 1-week mark, I was having heavy cramping and some sharp pain. I checked, and my doctor checked for my strings, but they couldn't be found. I ended up going to the ER, having an ultrasound and a CT scan to see if the Skyla was still in my uterus or had moved elsewhere into my abdomen. The nurse started an IV on me right away. She said it's in case they need to take me to the OR. They hadn't even done the scans yet, but the doctor told me they've had many women come in with IUDs that travel outside the uterus and into the abdominal cavity, and it requires surgery right away."
