For Birth Control "So I had this put in after baby number 3. I was overweight to begin with, but after I had the baby, I was at 225 lb, which is not bad considering I was 265 lb before I gave birth! But anyway, my son is almost 2 years old now, and since I had the IUD, I’ve been more depressed, angry, and just all over the place. My face breaks out constantly, but the worst of all is the pain and cramps with nausea that cause me to miss work. I felt pregnant every day just because I was so sick. Fights and arguments with my husband, family members. I was never like that before. So the other night, we were playing spades and drinking with our neighbors, and all of a sudden, I was in horrible pain that felt like I was in labor. I decided I couldn’t take the pain any longer, so I decided it had to be removed. I guess I will be having baby number 4 soon since I refuse to get back on birth control."

For Birth Control "Please keep in mind everyone’s body is different, so my experience won’t be the same as everyone else’s. I chose to go on birth control after enlisting in the Navy. While I’m happy Liletta is an effective method, the side effects are a bit overwhelming. Initial insertion was one thing; cramping for a day or two, then continuing along; however, I didn’t stop spotting until four months after the fact. I frequently suffer from vaginal dryness and infections, experience pain every time I have sex, and have had major depressive episodes. I suffered from PTSD and depression beforehand; however, this significantly magnified the effects. Now, after almost two years, I’d like to try another form of birth control. It’s an amazing “get it and forget it” method, which I truly appreciate for the convenience of, but I just don’t think my body is reacting well to it. Still recommend for anyone without a history of depression or susceptibility to vaginal infections."

For Birth Control "I liked the Liletta for its convenience - not worrying about periods or pills anymore was amazing. I found that I experienced some pain for about a year after insertion; just mild cramping. Insertion was painful, but not as terrible as I've heard it described. Like intense, bad cramps for about 5-10 seconds. Unfortunately, I was one of the rare cases that developed an ectopic pregnancy while using Liletta. Fortunately, it ruptured very early and actually resolved itself without intervention, but was still painful and scary. I guess I'm giving a mixed review. When it works, I think it's great. But nothing is 100%."

For Birth Control "So my experience with Liletta has been terrible. The insertion wasn't bad, I can handle that honestly, but the pain after is terrible. I've had it for almost a year, and every time I have my period, the cramps are 10,000 times worse. They feel like damn contractions. I can barely stand with them. I hate it so much, but it's a very effective way to have birth control. My period is lighter, but this pain is really horrible, so think twice before getting it."

For Birth Control "I have had Liletta for a month now, and it has caused me so much pain. During the procedure, it was a pain I can't describe, but after it, I was fine. Over that very long month, I have had the worst cramping that I have never experienced in my life. I have tried multiple medications, and nothing has worked. I have also been very nauseous and could barely eat anything. Everyone's body is different, but I don't think my body likes it. I have a doctor's appointment this week, so we will see how that goes."

For Birth Control "So I got my Liletta in May of 2017. I just had it removed in April 2018 due to the fact that every time I turned around, I was cramping so bad, and it felt like I was being stabbed, or by being in a certain position, it felt like it was coming out, which it wasn't. I had major mood swings, it was horrible. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody with how much pain I was in for most of a year. Most people have different experiences, but mine, well, it was like I was doubled over in pain all the time, so I had it removed for my health."

For Birth Control "Ok, so I got the Liletta in October 2016. The procedure took maybe 10 minutes, the pain was pretty bad. I bled for 4 months straight, and the strings were literally one inch from being outside of my body, I had them trimmed. I was told after 6 months my period should stop, well, they are lighter but haven't stopped and last between 10 to 12 days. I have to wear panty liners all day, every day, because I have a constant clear, watery discharge (no STDs). My OB said it is my body getting rid of all the extra hormones. But it's so irritating. Sex is fine, no pain, but my husband says he gets poked sometimes. I haven't had it removed yet because I haven't gotten pregnant, thank God. But I have had a problem, I'm not sure if it's related to the BC or not, but since about a month after getting it, I have had severe neck pain, and about 6 months ago everything above my waist went numb and has been numb since. I see a neurologist next month, so hopefully, I'll find out if it has anything to do with my Liletta."

For Birth Control "I took 1000 mg of ibuprofen, inserted two pills the doctor prescribed me the night before to dilate my cervix, and was on my period like the doctor said. I am 24 years old and have never had children. Oh my God - this was the worst pain I have ever had. It was paralyzing pain. I cried out, shook, and immediately began crying. It literally knocked the air out of me. My boyfriend had to drive me home because the cramping and pain in my cervix were so excruciating. The pain was gone by the next day, but I bled non-stop for a month. At my one-month check-up, I was told my body was expelling it and that I was the 1% of the population it wasn't working for. They said it hadn't been protecting me that entire time, and they removed it that day."

For Birth Control "I am 32, tall, slightly heavy, never had children. I had Liletta inserted in April 2018. It is now June 2018, and I've been bleeding nonstop the entire time. The insertion process was honestly the worst pain I've ever felt in my life. I chose an IUD because I wanted a method of birth control that would be consistent without my having to take a pill every day. I've never had strong menstrual cramps before, but with Liletta in, I experience cramps continuously. I've had the heaviest flows of my life, mood swings, my sex drive has vanished, and I have acne worse than I had as a teenager, especially on my back and shoulders. I'm looking to get this thing removed in the next week or so and just use condoms because it isn't worth it to go through this discomfort and pain."

For Birth Control "I was on the pill for years, and wanted something different. I tried the ring and hated it, so I decided to get over my fears of the IUD. Honestly, the insertion wasn't as bad as what I read. It felt like the worst period cramps, and I couldn't do anything about it, but it didn't last long. I had some spotting for a few days and slight discomfort. But after about three weeks, I completely forgot it was there. My periods have been light and a little late, but I'm still only two months in. I will get bad lower back pain once my period is coming, but it's nothing that I can't deal with. Overall, there are some drawbacks, but compared to other birth control methods, this is definitely something I recommend and will be keeping."

For Birth Control "I rushed into getting an IUD. Didn't do enough research. I spoke to a few people who have IUDs, and they love them. Well, I hate mine. It was the worst pain I've ever felt when I got it inserted. I've had it for about a month now, and I haven't stopped spotting or bleeding since I got it. I have random cramps and back pains. I feel bloated, and I have major mood swings. I have my monthly follow-up appointment tomorrow, and I'm thinking about having it removed, depending on what my doctor says."

For Birth Control "Every woman's experience with insertion is different. I was not expecting much pain (since I am used to severe cramping), and I read others' reviews, but getting it inserted was the worst pain of my life-I screamed in the doctor's office-and it felt unbearable. Like fire and shards of glass twisted inside. I was shaken up for days after. Cramps and low energy for 1.5 weeks after insertion. Two-week-long periods (three days pre-Liletta). Cramps on and off for two months after insertion. Despite these side effects, glad I got the Liletta. Morning-after pills were hard on my system when I forgot my birth control pills, and getting my pills became difficult and expensive because of my insurance. Liletta and insertion were free for me, which makes this a win."

For Birth Control "I got Liletta in March (8 months ago) for just $30 at my local health department. The insertion was very painful, and I did have cramping for a few days afterward. My periods were pretty normal the first few months, and now I haven't even had a period for the past two months (which is great!) Besides the insertion pain, I am really liking Liletta. It does its job. I have never had children, so I'm guessing that may be why the insertion pain was so bad. I will probably get it out before the 3 years are over because I am newly married and wanting to get pregnant sometime next year."

For Birth Control "I was originally taking a daily pill: Scronyx, which caused my blood pressure to spike, so the next best thing was the IUD, I went with Liletta. The insertion was painful yet tolerable, the pain lasted for a few days. The bleeding was the worst part, I was bleeding heavily for two months straight. I was beginning to get concerned, so I went back to my doctor. She told me that women can bleed for three to six months, so I thought I'd deal with it. I have reached month seven, I'm still getting my monthly that lasts 9 days, and my mood swings are just awful. The only good thing about this IUD is I have lost a few pounds. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone."

For Birth Control "I am 42 and a mother of 5. I am also about to be a grandmother, so I decided it was time for extra precautions. I had Liletta put in 9-27-17, there was mild pain/discomfort associated with it. My issues are I have cramps from hell that come out of nowhere and bleeding that won't stop! Most days the bleeding is very light and is unpredictable. The only thing that is predictable is I will bleed at some point during the day. If my husband and I have intercourse, you can bet there will be heavy bleeding and cramping after. Over the last week, the bleeding has been very heavy, there is even a significant amount of clotting with it, and the cramps make me double over. I am really considering getting it removed."

For Birth Control "First-time mom, 8-month-old baby. Liletta inserted on Oct 19th, it’s now Nov 14. Insertion was a VERY uncomfortable pinch, a lot of pressure in my stomach vs. where I thought I would feel it in my cervix. My Dr. had me cough during insertion, which distracted me, BUT I realize the 4-6 ibuprofen I took before getting it made me feel less pain because when the meds wore off ... dear gawd ... the discomfort and cramping was unbearable. Instantly regretted my decision and vowed to have it removed. I even went to the ER to have an ultrasound out of fear it was misplaced. The cramps, low back pain, discomfort, and pain jumped from one ovary to the next, made me miserable for about 4-5 days. Things got better, but spotting since Oct 25 and weird smell."

For Birth Control "I am 18, diagnosed with a small cervix, and I’m a virgin, and I got the Liletta IUD 2 days ago. At first, I was extremely nervous because all the reviews of the insertion seemed to be very negative, but so far, my experience has only been positive! I had the actual procedure done at Planned Parenthood, and it only took about 7 minutes. It was painful for a few moments, but it honestly wasn’t worse than getting my eyebrows threaded. I had moderate cramps for about 3 hours after, but nothing that I couldn’t handle with some ibuprofen. I even went out the same night I got it and was able to go to the gym and work the next day. I continue to have light spotting, as expected, but overall, I have loved it so far. I will update once I’ve had it longer."

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta inserted about a month ago. I would describe the pain I felt from it as similar to the intensity of passing a stone from my gallbladder. However, the pain lasted less than 2-3 minutes, and insertion was about 5 minutes. I have never given birth. I have had spotting and cramps on and off 3 weeks after insertion. Now I'm on my period, and I will admit it is heavy but less crampy. I do find this IUD very effective. I also like this much more than taking a birth control pill. The pills made my blood pressure increase and caused absolutely horrible bloating. I'll take spotting and slight cramping throughout the month than what I was going through with the pill any day."

For Birth Control "(Liletta IUD) I have a high pain tolerance (everyone is different). But in this case, that does not matter. During the insertion, you will feel a slight pain/cramping, but it is bearable! You will tense up a little, but breathing in with your nose and out with your mouth will help! The vaginal clamp did put pressure on me more than the actual cervix opening for the IUD. It's a quick process, and rating the pain out of 10, it was about a 4-5 (deep breaths help!). I went while I was on my period, which is recommended for easy insertion (true!), and my period stopped the same day, but got light the next day (normally heavy flow). You will feel a little light-headed and crampy after, but no joke, ice cream or a milkshake will help the pain! Good luck!"

"I am taking this to hopefully stop heavy and irregular periods. I'm still early in my experience with Liletta, my insertion was just 11 days ago. The day of my insertion, my doctor told me to take ibuprofen prior, and I'm so glad I did. There were minor cramps during the insertion and nothing after. I drove home and was fine the rest of the day. About halfway through the next day, I started to have some very minor cramping, which went away with ibuprofen. Fast forward to 5 days later, and I had extreme pain on the right side of my uterus with some light spotting. Nothing would stop the pain, I tried ibuprofen, a heating pad, and an ice pack. Two days later, my doctor had me check for the strings, which I was able to feel, which meant the placement of the IUD was correct. The next day after that (this past Tuesday), I started my period, and while it's not as heavy and full of clots, it comes with lots of cramping, which I never really had before. I'm still early on, so I'm not giving up on it. I should also mention I'm 46 years old and hoping it will stop my periods."

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta today, Jan. 16th, 2017, and first off, the pain was out of this world. I have a daughter and had a C-section, and this pain was way worse than I could imagine. I was sweating and shaking, and they tell you to breathe, but that didn't help. It felt like it took forever for it to be inserted. Then after dilating my cervix, she needed a bigger tool they use to dilate the cervix. I really felt like it was a never-ending process. I have had slight cramping and hardly any spotting, so hopefully everything goes well."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted in September 2016. I was on the first day of my period, as it was recommended by my gyn. The procedure lasted about 5 minutes, really quick—although I had been a week before for a check-up— it was super painful with nothing to compare it to. I have never been pregnant. I took ibuprofen since I had terrible cramps, discomfort, and pain for two days. After that, my period continued as usual, although I had spotting for two weeks. The next periods were shorter, but I did experience more cramping and spotting every now and then. I use an app called 'Clue' to help me track all the different things I have been experiencing. I have not put on any weight, but for the past two months, I have had two periods per month."

For Birth Control "Just got this put in today, was the worst pain ever and I had two kids naturally, my cervix was too tight so she had to dilate it, then my uterus was crooked, so another painful step. I’m praying this pain goes away! I go back in three weeks unless I still have pain, then need to come back tomorrow for removal. My doctor said you should not have pain or problems as the hours pass after getting it put in. Will update later."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted exactly a month ago, and it was the most painful experience of my life. If I knew it was going to hurt so bad, I wouldn’t have done it, but I’m glad I did because it’s been good so far. I haven’t bled at all, which is nice. My skin is breaking out like crazy though on my chin, which is hormonal acne. And my period was supposed to come today, but instead, I have insane cramps similar to when I got it inserted. I hope my skin clears up because I really like Liletta so far, and so does my partner!"
