For Birth Control "I got the Liletta IUD yesterday, which was the day after my last period ended. Insertion was easy but painful! Took about 10 minutes, I didn't take any medication beforehand. Pain is similar to an early labor contraction. Relaxing your tailbone will help a lot. After insertion, I got up and walked out of the office feeling fine. Tiny cramps, but I think it was only from having my cervix dilated, kind of a residual pain. After making it home an hour later and using the restroom, there was a tiny amount of blood on the TP. Looked kind of like strawberry lemonade XD, again, I think it was from being dilated. Today I feel perfectly normal, no pain, no bleeding, just another day. I hope it lasts."

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta inserted at my 6 weeks after my baby was born (Feb. 2019). The insertion wasn't bad at all, but the cramping and constant bleeding for months afterward was annoying. I have had several bacterial infections causing me to have a very foul smell and needing to take several rounds of antibiotics. I gained a measly 15 lbs during pregnancy, which I lost right away until I had the IUD placed. I've now gained double that back, and it's not even been a full 3 months! I'm a raging person constantly, depressed, and have no sex drive, which is odd for me. I'm also anxious and get super worried about every little thing! I have had terrible pelvic pain, which the doctors chalked up to postpartum healing, but I don't think so! As of yesterday, my lovely Liletta string got wrapped around my tampon, and when removed, it came with it, so I guess I won't have an expensive doctor appointment to have the thing removed!"

For Birth Control "Been on various birth controls since I was 15 due to painful periods and anemia. My first 2 experiences with birth control were with the pill, I was on the 3-month kind for around a year, and after the first cycle, I had constant spotting, and on my final scheduled period before changing, I bled so bad I passed out. Never had kids before, and I'm a very tiny person (5' 5" and 105 lbs), so my doctor was slightly worried about the pain, but we still decided this IUD was what we wanted. I'm going to be honest, it hurt like anything to get put in, and I did end up throwing up a few times throughout the day, but after day 3, I was fine. Been 3 months now, and I've had no period and never been better!"

For Birth Control "The insertion was the worst part. When I got Liletta inserted, it was very, very painful, and it didn't stick inside my uterus the first or second time. By that point, I was shaky and moaning in pain, but the third time was a charm, and it stayed, thank goodness. It feels like a big pinch. I had bad cramps the first two days after and had to stay at home with a heating pad. Other than my insertion horror story, I LOVE IT so far. I haven't had a period, and I feel fine. I barely know it's there, and my boyfriend can't feel it during sex either. It's great, and I highly recommend it :)"

For Birth Control "Okay, I'll share: so I've had it for 3 months now. Insertion was extremely painful for me, and after that, the pain lasted for 8 hours or so. (That was the worst part.) But worth it, I suppose. I chose Liletta because I was told it was most similar to Skyla, which is what I had before with no problems. After insertion, that period I bled for 2 weeks, heavy as anything. Then the next 2 were pretty average. About 7 days moderate/light. This cycle, I skipped it altogether, although I still had period symptoms (PMS, cramps, cravings). It freaked me out a bit thinking I might be preggers or something, but not really possible, especially because I've had 2 periods since I last had sex, so I'd probably be in the hospital in surgery. Then I remembered I didn't get periods with Skyla either. So, if anyone's worried as to why Ms. Flow stopped, it's normal for women to have irregular periods as well as for it to just stop altogether."

For Birth Control "I had this crap inserted four hours ago and am still hurting. I had to pull over on the way home because I was sweating from pain. I threw up my lunch and almost pooped my pants. THAT'S PAIN. I had my Mirena removed because it expired and tried this one. I wish I had not changed because my Mirena insertion did not hurt at all. I will be having this taken out in a few months. I'm still hurting. This was a bad idea. Getting this thing put in brought tears to my eyes. I'd rather have a baby."

For Birth Control "I got the IUD put in on March 24, 2017. I was on the Depo for almost 7 years. I just decided I needed something new. But the insertion hurt. It was the worst pain ever. I cramped real bad, felt so weak as if I was about to pass out. I recommend not going to work after. I had cramps for weeks straight. But no bleeding. Now I can say I have a cramping spell once a day, it's rather annoying. Lately, I have been having a lot of brown spotting/gushing like it's blood, but it's very faint and brown. It hasn't been as bad as when I first got it. I'm trying to give it a chance."

For Birth Control "I got my Liletta on May 28th, 2017. I have never been pregnant or had sex before, so insertion was uncomfortable and painful. The pinch on the cervix hurt, but the foreign object holding open my vaginal opening hurt more for me. Post-insertion, pain subsided after about 45 minutes, and I felt fine. I was mid-menstrual cycle when I got mine inserted. Days following, cramps began to develop every day and light bleeding followed. I lost my appetite and felt sleepy all the time. Light bleeding (only had to use light tampons) was consistent, and cramps got worse and occurred every day. (Cramps are the worst part by far.) At about 2.5 weeks after insertion, I began to feel some mood swings and had an acne breakout. Symptoms still occurring 5 weeks out."

For Birth Control "I thought I would share my insertion experience. I would rate pain as a 2/10. I had some discomfort during the clamping of my cervix and the measuring of my uterus. There was mild cramping and an awkward feeling because having something in your uterus is not something you normally feel. The actual insertion was one second of strong pressure and done! I have had worse cramping during my period, and the cramping from prep and insertion went away almost instantly. I highly recommend getting it done during your period (my doctor suggested it) because your cervix dilates slightly and softens to allow menstrual flow."

For Birth Control "After reading all of these helpful reviews, I thought to myself... why not add my input in order to help other ladies that might also be struggling with the never-ending journey of finding the right birth control, because my God, is it frustrating. I got the Liletta IUD inserted in May 2016, so it's been in for nearly 7 months. The insertion hurt a lot, and I was in a fair amount of pain afterward (could hardly drive myself home). I bled for a month or two, and after that, it was like a dream. No periods. Perfect skin. No weight gain. I kept having to remind myself that I was protected and didn't have to worry. Then, about 3 months later, I started experiencing incredibly bad acne all over my face. Still experiencing it. Getting it out ASAP."

For Birth Control "I decided to get Liletta back in 2017, about 4 months after I gave birth to my daughter. The process to place the IUD is painful, for me, it lasted a day or two. I would suggest having someone go with you so you don't have to drive after it. The best thing about this is not having to worry about taking the pill every day at the same time. Just a simple check to make sure you feel the strings once a month, and you're good. At the time I had mine placed, they said it only lasts about 3 years, but now it lasts 6 years. The process to take it out was painless. All the OB did was grab the strings with forceps and pulled on it, and it was out. He did tell me most couples will get pregnant after getting the IUD out, and close to 90% of couples get pregnant after one year. Please remember that not everyone is the same, my experience will be different from others."

For Birth Control "I've gotten this IUD after I gave birth to my second child. The procedure was painful yet bearable to a certain extent depending on how you can tolerate pain. The first couple of months were great, and I was happy with it. Very effective until my almost three-month mark of having the blasted thing. My whole persona changed. It started to affect my sex life negatively, my emotions, and don't get me started on the 50 lbs weight gain that is still hard to shed after having it removed due to it triggering my migraines for some odd reason. After having it removed, I got my period the following week and strangely another one the week after but shorter. This is my second month since having the IUD removed and nearly two weeks late on my period. All of my HPT (home pregnancy tests) came back negative, but there were still no signs of my period showing up. I assumed it could be my body still adjusting to not having the IUD and taking its precious time returning to normal."

For Birth Control "18 yo, first IUD, no kids, average height and weight. Insertion was the worst pain of my life, but it only lasted a few minutes. I did not take any pain medication in preparation for this, but looking back, I should have. First couple of hours, I bled heavily with horrible cramps, just wanted to curl up into a ball and die, but I have never really had a problem with cramps before, so this may be normal to most. This is day 3 post-insertion, every once in a while I'll have some pain in what I'm assuming is my uterus, not bad at all though. Bleeding has slowed to just spotting. Will update soon."

For Birth Control "Shortly after giving birth to my last child in October, I had Liletta placed in December 2016. It was a bit painful, but mine was inserted while on my cycle. I felt cramps as my doctors deployed the Liletta, but only for a few minutes. After I left the doctor, I went to pump gas and went home. When I got home, my cycle was completely off. It stayed that way until day 5, and then it was like a crime scene. I bled consistently for 2 months, and my body adjusted. Even after my body accepted it, I still felt cramps when I worked, cleaned, or sat down. Today, June 23, 2017, I got it removed because for the past couple of weeks I've been dealing with unbearable pain! Cramps nonstop, but it did prevent pregnancy."

For Birth Control "I got Liletta in July of 2016, and I was warned that it would hurt from a friend, but it hurt so much. It was pain that I have never experienced. After it was all done, I almost couldn't walk. But after that, it was fine. It was great, I don't have a period anymore, but I've gained over 50 pounds, and I have so much ache. I hate having it so much. I'm actually getting it out at the end of this month."

For Birth Control "It took my gynecologist nearly forty minutes to place the Liletta. I am 21, no kids, and I have a narrower than average cervical opening. I think this is why it took so long for him to place it and why it was so painful for me. It was literally the worst pain I've ever experienced. I was in tears the entire time. Today is only the second day I've had it, and the light bleeding I had has been reduced to very slight brown spotting. The cramps are making it hard for me to want to keep the IUD, though. Pre-IUD, on the first day of my period, I'd get cramps so horrible I'd be nauseous and couldn't eat anything. Well, immediately after IUD insertion, I started having similar severe cramps that have yet to go away, and nothing has given me relief."

For Birth Control "Had my Liletta placed in August 2017. Most painful thing I have ever experienced. My Dr. never ordered the medication to soften my cervix (called me the day of the procedure and said, oops), so take that into account. Mind you, I have a very high pain tolerance. When this thing was placed, it took my breath away, I became dizzy and immediately started cramping. For the first month, I had bleeding non-stop (heavy period level of flow) and severe cramping. After the first month, I still had bleeding, pretty much every other day-more than spotting but less than full menstrual flow-and cramping until 4 months. Period now irregular, longer 7-10 days. My acne flares up now. I now have frequent headaches (never had that prior to Liletta). Benefits: I'm not pregnant. Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE! Cramping, irregular bleeding, longer period, heavier period, PMS, acne, boyfriend doesn't like it, and headaches."

For Birth Control "I did my Liletta insertion during my menstrual cycle, and my doctor said that's fine 'cause the insertion will be easier since my cervix or uterus will be more open, and I did feel a tiny pinch. The nurse held my hand during that part, and after that, it was over. It took five minutes, and then I went home. Because I had my period when I got my Liletta inserted, cramping and pain were normal for me, but afterwards, spotting is still there, and I have mild cramps and back pain. I am in week 4, so it's still too early for me to say if I like it, but for now, it's on and off, but I am not bothered. I know everyone is different. I have 3 children, so I don't plan to have any more, and I am 30, so this birth control works for me for now."

For Birth Control "I am 19 years old, maybe 5-10 pounds overweight and overall healthy minus the horrible periods I had been getting for years (the pills didn't work for me... they messed with my thyroid). I got the Liletta yesterday. Impressed so far. I took misoprostol (cervical ripening pill) 3 hours before, ate a good meal, and took 600 mg Motrin about half an hour before insertion. Yes, it hurts. I hate pain but I could deal with it. Feels like a horrible period cramp for a few seconds, maybe 1-2 times. I was able to drive myself home right after. Cramps were painful and my back ached for about 6 hours after insertion. Had some diarrhea, but that could've been because I ate Thai food before. I was barely spotting too. Today is day 2. Cramping is very light and I don't really need Advil. Bubble baths, yoga poses, and heating pads are working just fine. I am used to horrific period pain, so maybe this just isn't bad for me. Hoping everything will continue to go this way!"

For Birth Control "I'm 42 years old and was having irregular periods, had tests and ultrasound done, and discovered I had a 1 mm sized cyst on each of my ovaries. Was told that cysts are normal and at my age I am entering pre-menopause. Just had Liletta IUD inserted today, 2 hours ago to be exact. Was very painful, took 800 mg of ibuprofen and still feel pain mostly on the lower left side of my back and bloating. I will post again in a few days to update my experience."

For Birth Control "The insertion (12/30/2020) was probably the most traumatic experience of my life, I passed out afterward due to the pain and meds my doctor gave me. Four months in and I’m still getting excruciating cramps every day. They are severe to the point of taking my breath away or even vomiting. Plus, constant nausea just like morning sickness but all day. My eczema has returned on my scalp and hands/feet, with my prescription medicine no longer working. I also experience severe anxiety now. I have absolutely no sex drive anymore. I’m developing painful cystic acne on my chin, jawline, and forehead. I’m meeting with a new doctor next week for a second opinion on my reproductive health, as my current doctor has listened to none of my concerns and tells me that they’ve heard no complaints from their other patients about the Liletta. This forum obviously proves otherwise! The only positive to this IUD is that it prevents pregnancy but, at this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t."

For Birth Control "I decided to write a review because I was reading all the comments saying it's extremely painful when inserted, and I wanted to share my experience. I had a baby in December (3 months ago), which may have attributed to the lack of pain and discomfort. The only real pain and discomfort I had was from the speculum, aside from that, I couldn't feel a thing. I didn't really get any cramping afterward either."

For Birth Control "I had this particular IUD placed on Monday. So I've only had it for a day. I have had a child and also have endometriosis. I experienced mild pain during insertion, 4-5/10. I had a lot of cramping and uterine spasms yesterday after it was put in. My Dr. says that it will help with my symptoms of endometriosis and obviously prevent pregnancy. Today being the 2nd with this IUD, I have had intermittent cramping. My cramps seem to be worse in the evening, I guess because I keep myself occupied during the day with work. My cramping is nothing that ibuprofen doesn't help. I have had spotting and was not in my period during insertion. I have felt a bit bloated, but that's slowly starting to resolve. I would recommend this device."

For Birth Control "My doctor recommended Liletta for me because I can go 6-8 months without a period, and when I did have one, it made me really sick. He stated that I maybe ovulated 1-2 times a year, and that my uterus lining was extremely thick and that the medicine in Liletta would help thin out my lining. The insertion was painful, but nothing I couldn't handle. The only downfall is I had my insertion on 11/18, and today is 2/10/16, and I am still bleeding. Some weeks it's heavy as if I am on a regular cycle, and then some days I am really light to where I only see something when I wipe. I have had intercourse twice since the insertion. The first time I didn't bleed at all, but the second time I had intercourse, I was bleeding heavy. I can't wait until it's OFF."

For Birth Control "Just had it inserted today, and holy crap, the pain. It was a 15/10 when she put it in. I came home and threw up from the pain. After napping with a heating pad, I felt a million times better, though. Even though the pain was awful, I'd do it again if it means not having to worry about BC for 3 years."
