"I was experiencing very heavy periods for years. My OB ordered an HSG & discovered I had a lot of uterine polyps. During the D&C to remove polyps, a Liletta was placed as added insurance, in case polyp removal didn’t resolve the heavy periods. I had tender breasts & headaches for a few months and almost had it removed, but I was hopeful the symptoms would subside & I would eventually be period-free like I was when I had the Mirena many years ago. Those symptoms resolved, but I continue to bleed daily. It’s been over 8 months. I went to my OB to have the Liletta removed. I thought this would be a quick appointment, but my doctor couldn’t find the string. She did an ultrasound to see if anything was wrong. I was told there is nothing wrong with placement, & most likely the string is just coiled up. I will have to go under anesthesia for it to finally be removed. It’s been a nightmare for me & the bleeding has affected my mood, which has affected my relationships."

For Birth Control "After my second pregnancy, I had Liletta put in. I chose Liletta over Paragard this time because I've always been a heavy bleeder with heavy cramps, so when the doctor told me this would help both of those, that was another plus, and so I went with Liletta. I got it put in on Oct. 9th, almost a month after giving birth, which was also the last day of what seemed to be a regular period for me, so I was happy to be done bleeding. Well, I had it inserted, which was surprisingly less painful than when I had Paragard almost 5 years ago. I haven't had any abdominal cramps, but my back pain is excruciating! And I HAVE NOT STOPPED BLEEDING! If I bleed until the end of December, I will have it removed!"

For Birth Control "I had gotten Liletta in November 2020. Insertion was bearable, I say a 5/10 on the pain scale. Within an hour, I started feeling extremely lightheaded and had almost a labor-type contraction feeling of cramps. It hurt to stand, it hurt to sit. I felt better later that evening but felt a little nauseous for about 2-3 days. I bled for about a month, sometimes light bleeding, sometimes super heavy. My periods were regular and painless, but kind of long. I started to see my weight rise, but not too much. About 10 months later, I started getting two periods a month, both 9 days long. My weight continued to rise slowly. Now, in February 2022, I’m 45 pounds heavier, I’m completely and utterly depressed, and I get 3 periods a month, each one 2-3 days apart to not bleed. Honestly, this was the worst decision I could have made for myself, and I will be getting it removed."

For Birth Control "I got this birth control at my 6 weeks PP appointment, and honestly, after pushing out a baby through my vag, I didn't feel a thing. I was also on my period when I got it inserted, but it was the best decision I made after my BC method! For me, it was painless, the whole procedure was like 10 mins, and the Dr. kept saying, 'You'll feel a pinch.' I didn't feel it, then she said, 'You'll feel some cramping.' I didn't feel that either. Then before I knew it, it was over. I love it! I breastfeed, so I haven't had a period since I got this IUD. I had irregular bleeding for about 3 to 4 weeks, but after that, no more bleeding. I totally recommend this for a new mama that doesn't want to get pregnant!!"

For Birth Control "18 yo, first IUD, no kids, average height and weight. Insertion was the worst pain of my life, but it only lasted a few minutes. I did not take any pain medication in preparation for this, but looking back, I should have. First couple of hours, I bled heavily with horrible cramps, just wanted to curl up into a ball and die, but I have never really had a problem with cramps before, so this may be normal to most. This is day 3 post-insertion, every once in a while I'll have some pain in what I'm assuming is my uterus, not bad at all though. Bleeding has slowed to just spotting. Will update soon."

For Birth Control "Shortly after giving birth to my last child in October, I had Liletta placed in December 2016. It was a bit painful, but mine was inserted while on my cycle. I felt cramps as my doctors deployed the Liletta, but only for a few minutes. After I left the doctor, I went to pump gas and went home. When I got home, my cycle was completely off. It stayed that way until day 5, and then it was like a crime scene. I bled consistently for 2 months, and my body adjusted. Even after my body accepted it, I still felt cramps when I worked, cleaned, or sat down. Today, June 23, 2017, I got it removed because for the past couple of weeks I've been dealing with unbearable pain! Cramps nonstop, but it did prevent pregnancy."

For Birth Control "Horrible insertion, I had a baby, so they are inserting it into your cervix, kinda like when a baby is trying to come out! Nonetheless, I have been bleeding EVERY DAY for 2 months, sometimes heavy with lots of clots, sometimes light! But there is always something coming out! I’d honestly rather deal with a period and condoms than this! I can’t even have sex anyway because I am always bleeding! I’m getting this removed if the bleeding hasn’t let up by next month! They need to fix this and stop issuing us as guinea pigs because they didn’t warn about this extreme bleeding AT ALL. Plus, I’m spending a fortune on pads and tampons, which is backwards in my opinion."

For Birth Control "It took my gynecologist nearly forty minutes to place the Liletta. I am 21, no kids, and I have a narrower than average cervical opening. I think this is why it took so long for him to place it and why it was so painful for me. It was literally the worst pain I've ever experienced. I was in tears the entire time. Today is only the second day I've had it, and the light bleeding I had has been reduced to very slight brown spotting. The cramps are making it hard for me to want to keep the IUD, though. Pre-IUD, on the first day of my period, I'd get cramps so horrible I'd be nauseous and couldn't eat anything. Well, immediately after IUD insertion, I started having similar severe cramps that have yet to go away, and nothing has given me relief."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted May 2016. I'm 43 years old. Insertion was not too bad, a bit painful when they put the clamps on your uterus to hold it open, and I guess my opening is a bit small since I have never given birth naturally (C-section), so the doc had to jiggle it to get it in. Anyway, here we are 12 months later, and I have bled almost every day since. I've put on 10 lb, and I am eating and exercising as I have done for a long period of time. I am reluctant to remove it because the thought of getting it out is not appealing, and my insurance didn't cover it, so I paid around $900 to get it put in and don't want to waste that money."

For Birth Control "Had my Liletta placed in August 2017. Most painful thing I have ever experienced. My Dr. never ordered the medication to soften my cervix (called me the day of the procedure and said, oops), so take that into account. Mind you, I have a very high pain tolerance. When this thing was placed, it took my breath away, I became dizzy and immediately started cramping. For the first month, I had bleeding non-stop (heavy period level of flow) and severe cramping. After the first month, I still had bleeding, pretty much every other day-more than spotting but less than full menstrual flow-and cramping until 4 months. Period now irregular, longer 7-10 days. My acne flares up now. I now have frequent headaches (never had that prior to Liletta). Benefits: I'm not pregnant. Cons: EVERYTHING ELSE! Cramping, irregular bleeding, longer period, heavier period, PMS, acne, boyfriend doesn't like it, and headaches."

For Birth Control "Okay... I have finally stopped bleeding, lost all the weight I gained (12 lbs). So I guess, if you can get through the first 90 days of nonstop bleeding, then you'll be okay. My doctor advised me not to remove it and give it time, he was right. I like not having to think about birth control, I was just freaked out by the 3 months of bleeding. Like I've previously said, the insertion wasn't bad for me."

For Birth Control "I had Mirena for 6 years. I got it removed to get pregnant again. I had my baby June 25, 2017. My gyn put Liletta this time. She told me they weren't doing Mirena anymore unless you had a really bad health condition, so I had to agree to use Liletta. Both of my experiences when the doctor put it weren't bad, as it did not hurt at all or have any cramping. But now I'm to the point of getting it removed because I've been bleeding every day since they placed it, and it has not stopped. My gyn said it's okay and normal that I have to give it a 6-month try, but honestly, it's just uncomfortable to be bleeding every single day. You cannot even be intimate."

For Birth Control "I had Liletta inserted today, the middle of November 2016. I did not do too much research because I'm a scaredy cat with doctors. I had a friend that got one a few years back, so I thought, why not. I definitely was NOT ready for the insertion process. It wasn't unbearable, but it was definitely more than I was ready for. I am experiencing light cramping and bleeding. I'm taking 600 mg Ibuprofen, and it is doing just fine. So far, so good. I am hopeful for the future."

For Birth Control "I have recently had the IUD inserted on October 31, 2016, it's now December 1, and I'm STILL bleeding. Heavily, might I add. It's pretty annoying because my partner wants sex more than ever now that we've had our first child, and I just don't feel comfortable having sex while still bleeding. Anyway, I am noticing that my skin is getting worse and very oily. I have painful cramps now, and I didn't have these before insertion. I'm bloated all the time. It's been about 5 weeks, when will it end? I don't know if it's worth it."

For Birth Control "I got the IUD inserted in May 2016. Since then, the acne has been horrible, cramping off and on all month. If I cramp, there is sure to be bleeding, or I will pass small pieces of tissue. I have no kids, and I am seriously thinking about having it removed. Not happy at all!"

For Birth Control "I had this inserted today. Due to extremely heavy bleeding during my periods, I chose to get an IUD. The previous reviews freaked me out! The insertion hurt for about 10 seconds, and then I just felt cramps a bit heavier than my period. It was not as bad as some of these reviews stated (maybe a 6/10). I was told to expect moderate cramping for about 3 days as my body adjusts and light bleeding for 3-6 months. Hoping this will be worth it!"

For Birth Control "Very painful insertion. I am 42, with 5 children and still say this was a quick but painful decision. My 18 yr old daughter had it done same day, and I terribly regret this for her. The both of us have had bleeding, on/off cramping, and stomach pain (moderate to awful) ever since. I wish I'd looked into other options. I do NOT recommend this for anyone who hasn't experienced childbirth. The insertion pain and after cramping is just too much! It's been 3 weeks, so hoping it gets better for us."

For Birth Control "I had it put in about a year ago. It initially hurt, but I was able to resume normal activity. I even went hiking that day. I was led to believe that I would have no periods or light periods. I was not using it for birth control, but to prevent more endometriosis flare-ups. Three months in, I became concerned about the nonstop heavy bleeding and clots. I was told to wait it out. Six months in, I continued to have the bleeding, along with some severe mood swings and deep depressive episodes that I've never had before. I felt bloated all the time. When I went to the doctor at month eleven, the suggestion was to wait it out more, and if I wanted, we could add more hormones to try to fix it. I had the IUD pulled out. I feel relieved. Hoping this review helps others."

For Birth Control "My doctor recommended Liletta for me because I can go 6-8 months without a period, and when I did have one, it made me really sick. He stated that I maybe ovulated 1-2 times a year, and that my uterus lining was extremely thick and that the medicine in Liletta would help thin out my lining. The insertion was painful, but nothing I couldn't handle. The only downfall is I had my insertion on 11/18, and today is 2/10/16, and I am still bleeding. Some weeks it's heavy as if I am on a regular cycle, and then some days I am really light to where I only see something when I wipe. I have had intercourse twice since the insertion. The first time I didn't bleed at all, but the second time I had intercourse, I was bleeding heavy. I can't wait until it's OFF."

For Birth Control "I've had Liletta for about 3 months now (31 yrs old). I was on the pill for over 10 years, then suffered a blood clot and was taken off the pill immediately. The IUD insertion was painful, and I was very crampy for the rest of the day. I then bled for about a week. Since then, no periods (yet!), and I barely have any cramping at all. I have been more bloated, and I've gained some weight, but it might just be that I'm retaining more water. I work out frequently, and I haven't changed my diet, so maybe I will balance out in a couple of months. I have also had more days feeling depressed, but again, I hope this balances out in a couple of months since I am dealing with my blood clot anxiety as well. These side effects seem inconsequential compared to the risk of blood clots with the pill or the risk of pregnancy without any!"

For Birth Control "I got the Liletta placed five days ago, and the insertion was way more painful than I ever remembered the Mirena to be. It was so uncomfortable that I was on the verge of telling them to just forget it. Anyway, I went through with it and sucked it up. I've been cramping, bleeding, and passing blood clots since it was inserted. The cramps are not something that I can withstand for a long period of time, so I've made ibuprofen and my heating pad my best friend. Today I went to the bathroom, and I passed blood clots, and I waited because I felt like I was passing another huge one... however, this felt slightly different from the others, and what do you know, the Liletta made its way out :( I'm very disappointed!"

For Birth Control "I had it put in yesterday morning. Didn't hurt a bit, just became very dizzy after insertion and needed to sit down, felt cramps but ibuprofen helped to eliminate that, had some bleeding yesterday, today just some brown spotting. Too soon to tell, hopefully the spotting will stop soon and periods altogether. I feel like my lower pelvis is a little inflamed or something is in there, but maybe it's the cramps... I have reduced ibuprofen, I'm only taking 200 mg, hope to not have to take any tomorrow."

For Birth Control "Placed Mirena several weeks after a C-section. I had it for 4.5 years and zero issues. It stopped my period, and I never had cramps. Took Mirena out, had a failed pregnancy, and decided I was not ready to try again. I went to my doctor, who recommended the Liletta, saying, 'it's the same thing.' Seconds after insertion, I was extremely nauseated and in incredible pain, cramping/bleeding immediately and had the shakes for roughly 2 hours. Fast forward 3 months, using panty liners every day due to constant spotting. It wasn't even bright fresh pink/red spotting. It looked like old dried period blood spotting. Cramps off and on 4-5 days a week, with weekly occurrences where it physically hurt to sit up straight. Pro: did not get pregnant. Con: everything else."

For Birth Control "I hate Liletta. First, I was not informed by my doctor of all the possible side effects, and second, if I was, I would never have this thing in. I had it put in May 2016. I have not yet stopped bleeding. Heavy with clots and can be extreme sometimes. I went to the doctor because I was very concerned, that is when they informed me that the bleeding could last a year. This IUD is causing more issues than positives. I went out last week. I changed my pad right before leaving the house and not an hour later I was rushing to find a place to get new clothes and more pads. It only lasted 30 minutes, and I went through 4 heavy-duty night pads. I now want this thing out and planning on making that appointment tomorrow."
