For Birth Control "I was absolutely terrified to get Kyleena put in - I was having panic attacks and kept second guessing myself as to whether I should even get this. I knew this was my best option (I didn’t want anything to worsen my anxiety, and I didn’t want to gain weight). Anyway, I finally did it, and the insertion process of Kyleena was NOT BAD AT ALL!!!!! It literally felt like 2 period cramps and that was it. It took (and I kid you not) 2 minutes, and I was done. I’m so, so happy I did this, and I shouldn’t have been so scared to do it in the first place. IT’S REALLY NOT THAT BAD!!! Don’t listen to other people's horror stories!! All the good stories no one bothers to return here to write them, they are just off living their lives, not even thinking of their Kyleena."

For Birth Control "DO YOUR RESEARCH! I have had Kyleena for 2 years now, and I'm having it removed in a week. I should have known my acne would become worse since I already had troubles with hormonal acne before, and I'm super sensitive to hormones because I've been on the pill before and had to go off because of the weight gain, which then I shed the weight I gained in a month. So with the Kyleena, the weight gain has been worse, I gained 14 lbs since I've been on it, and it's been affecting my overall confidence. Also, I have zero motivation to have sex now, and my anxiety has gotten worse to the point I can't function normally some days. Please do your research before getting this put inside your body!"

For Birth Control "The only thing I like about Kyleena is how low maintenance it is. My insertion went about as smooth as possible, with no cramping afterwards at all! With that being said, the part of the insertion where it is pushed up through your cervix was the most intense pain I've ever felt, even though it lasted 1/5th of a second. Unfortunately, for me, it wasn't worth it. I have had the IUD in for almost two years because I wanted to give it a good shot and really let my body get used to it before swearing it off, but the side effects are unbearable for me. Within a month of the IUD insertion, I started getting horrible migraines, really painful ovulation, bleeding during ovulation, severe PMS, severe cramps during my period, acne, weight gain. I had a blood test to rule out any other causes, it seems the IUD just didn't react well with me. I will say, though, that it made my periods a lot lighter or less painful."

For Birth Control "I had Kyleena inserted in July 2019. It was painful. I felt cramps and dizzy after the procedure. I had heavy cramps the first week. And then, I had a period every other week and spotting in between. Bleeding just doesn't go away. It has been 10 weeks. I still have cramps, knee soreness, and lower energy. I have to take iron supplements every day. I don’t have acne. I do experience weight gain, bloating, hair loss, and mood swings. Can I handle one more month? NO. Now I am worried about what may happen when it is removed. Will bleeding stop? Do I go back to normal?"

For Birth Control "I have had the Kyleena IUD for 10 months now, and I really don't like it, and I want it out. It was the WORST pain getting it in, and I passed out after getting it in and had to stay in the hospital for an hour afterward. I was bleeding for 2 and a half months straight after getting it in. I have put on 15 kg since the start of the year, and it has made my headaches worse and my hormonal acne worse! I am so self-conscious about how I look now, it is almost impossible to lose weight. I have been exercising and watching what I eat for 3 months, and I have gone up 2 sizes in pants!!! Like, what is that about? I’m so unhappy, and I really think I’d be better off just not having sex at all compared to this rubbish."

For Birth Control "I got the Kyleena birth control about 3 months ago. It has been nothing but a nightmare. I spotted almost every day the first 6 weeks. I have gained about 9 pounds and have gotten little spots of acne all over my face. And I usually have very clear skin. Since the start, I have had very bad constant cramps, but now the past week, I have been in excruciating pain. To the point that it feels like I may faint. I have an appointment tomorrow to hopefully get this thing out. On top of all of this, I get nauseous a lot and feel like throwing up. I have felt so awful and off the past 3 months. This birth control is NOT worth it. For me, it has been a complete waste of time and I absolutely hate it. Spare yourself the excruciating pain, moodiness, cramping, acne, and weight gain. No pros to this."

For Birth Control "I had the Kyleena for 3 months. Insertion was not bad at all and just felt like a really bad cramp. I took some ibuprofen beforehand along with a med to dilate my cervix per my doctor's recommendation. I bled for a month after insertion and became severely depressed, anxious, and lethargic. I have a history of being depressed, but this was on another level. Once I stopped bleeding, the depression eased up a little bit, and I have been mildly depressed since. Other side effects I have dealt with are increased acne and weight gain (about 10 pounds). Due to these negative side effects, I decided to have it removed today. The process was painless and only took a few minutes. If you don't have mental health issues, you will probably be fine, but if you do, I would be hesitant about this IUD. Also, some of my side effects could have been worsened by quarantine/coronavirus. What I liked most about the Kyleena was its low maintenance and lighter periods."

For Birth Control "I am writing this two days before I get Kyleena removed. To echo many others, this was the worst pain of my life to date. My period is gone, and I’m not pregnant, so those are the pros. However, the cons are simply too much to continue. 1) ACNE is the worst. I feel like a 14-year-old and, tbh, I was not looking to revisit that chapter of my life, thank you very much. 2) DEPRESSION has become unbearable. Dark thoughts, anger, numbness, truly insane mood swings. I’ve had sad days before, but this has been the hardest year of my life. My doctor literally prescribed me bipolar medication because my mood swings are so intense. 3) WEIGHT GAIN is real. Whether that’s from the depression/lack of motivation or the IUD is anybody’s guess. 4) PAIN: I know I’m the one housing the demon, but I feel even more horrible because my partner is in pain during intercourse. He said, 'it feels like I’m rubbing my penis on a really hard piece of plastic.' Stay tuned!"

For Birth Control "I hated this. The whole experience was a nightmare. The insertion was fine for me. The night and day after was horrific. I had to take a prescription painkiller and sleep to even get through the pain-worst bleeding and cramping I’ve ever dealt with. My periods were all over the place the entire year I had the IUD. They would come without warning and with a consistent cycle. I developed several cysts and was told this is just what happened with the IUD. My doctor told me to make it to 6 months. So I did. At 6 months, I was fed up, thought it was dislodged because of a sharp pain I was feeling in my abdomen. Nope, just cramping with the IUD. My doctor told me to wait it out another 6 months, so I did. And it just got worse. The cramps were horrific, and I got on this to help regulate and help with my periods. After a year, I had enough and got it removed. I gained 25 pounds, my mood swings were out of control, and the pain was horrific."

For Birth Control "I had my Kyleena put in 2 years ago. I previously was on the pill for 7 years, while on the pill, I did not have a period or cramps. Kyleena is a different story. I have cramping 3-7 days of the week minimum, randomly start my period, or spot, always with different amounts of flow. The cramps were so bad after a year, my gyno was worried and had an ultrasound of my ovaries. I often have pain/cramping after sex since I had Kyleena inserted. My cravings are constant, and I have put on a significant amount of weight, 40 pounds, also having the hardest time getting rid of the weight. Kyleena is convenient, but not sure how much longer I’m going to be dealing with this pain."

For Birth Control "I like Kyleena for the most part. Insertion was not super painful when I had it done, it was like a big cramp and a little crampy for the rest of the day, nothing unbearable in my case. However, I wanted to write this review because I have gained weight on Kyleena. I immediately became bigger than I was post-birth weight! I went from a size 7 to 13-14! I was even breastfeeding. No matter if I eat healthy or not, I cannot get the pounds off."

For Birth Control "Okay, I just want to start off by saying I LOVED my Kyleena-until I didn’t. Also, everyone has a different experience! I had it for 1.5 years, and during that time I didn’t have any mood swings, weight gain, or any major side effects. I still got my period, but it was lighter and easier to deal with. I loved how low maintenance it was, and it was a great option for me and my husband. Unfortunately, it moved out of place (I never noticed, and I checked my strings religiously), and I got pregnant. I ended up miscarrying a few days later, and the whole experience was traumatic. I am sad that Kyleena didn’t work for me, but I know lots of people love it. I definitely won’t be getting another one."

For Birth Control "Horrible BC method! Most of the reviews on here are only about insertion and have only had Kyleena for a day or so. I had Kyleena for 14 months. I personally didn't have an issue with insertion. A month after Kyleena, I started gaining weight rapidly despite not changing my diet or exercise routine. I started feeling tired all the time, I felt depressed, anxious, and just genuinely not myself. A few months went by and I started losing a TON of hair. Fast forward to 12 months post-insertion. I missed my period, and the next month I started developing SEVERE cystic acne. I have never had acne like that before. I went to the doctor and they kept telling me there was no way it was from Kyleena (eye roll). They checked my blood, did ultrasounds, and all my labs came back consistent with a woman with a PCOS diagnosis. After 2 months of removal, EVERYTHING has improved. Kyleena was the worst decision of my life!"

For Birth Control "I actually really like the Kyleena. I've had it for 5 months, and everything is great EXCEPT the weight gain. I'm 5'4" and I've gained 12 pounds since my insertion, and I have never been this weight in my entire life. I'm pretty healthy: vegetarian, gluten-free, and dairy-free, drink alcohol rarely, and I exercise 5 days a week. At first, I thought the weight gain was due to stress because I started school. Then I used my big brain to realize that I've been in school before without the IUD, and I did not gain weight. Pretty sure it has to be due to the IUD. :( I really am bummed because I really like it other than the weight gain. I even got the stomach flu and didn't lose a pound. Just not gonna work for me!"

For Birth Control "Okay, so I’ve had the Kyleena for over two years now. Insertion was painful but not unbearable. For the first 2 weeks, I bled about the amount of a normal period or less. I suffer from very irregular periods, and I have all of my life (I am now 21). Now, since being on Kyleena, my periods have completely vanished, and I haven’t had a menstrual cycle in over a year now. Sometimes I get occasional cramping. I also gained 20 pounds in about two years, but now I’m slowly starting to lose the weight. As well, I suffered with acne a lot of my life. After insertion, my acne was a lot worse, but finally now it’s pretty much gone. I’ve never gotten pregnant, so it’s working. Also, during the beginning, my hormones affected my mood, but it took about 8-12 months for that to even out. I also experienced mild depression and anxiety, which may or may not have to do with my hormones. It’s been two years now, and everything seems to be normalized for me, besides the minimal cramping. I hope this helps."

For Birth Control "I’ve had Kyleena for almost 2 years now, and it’s the best birth control I’ve ever had. No acne, no weight gain, no side effects at all. For the first year, my periods were very light, and after that, I stopped getting periods altogether. Though my boyfriend can sometimes feel the strings during intimacy, they’re very soft and flexible, and he doesn’t even notice them anymore. I very highly recommend Kyleena, it’s been very reliable. Plus, you don’t need to remember to do anything like you would with other birth controls. You get it inserted, which didn’t even really hurt, and you’re covered for multiple years!"

For Birth Control "Let me just start out saying this is the absolute worst birth control ever! I mean, I’ve only had one other birth control and it was the Skyla, and that was way better than this. It’s killing me, I got it put in in May 2018, and it’s been downhill ever since. I have the absolute worst weight gain ever! I’ve been depressed, and my mood swings are out of control! I do not recommend this birth control at all. Plus, I’ve been experiencing the worst migraines, and I’ve never experienced headaches before. It 100% sucks. Being put in did not hurt me at all, I had cramps, that was it, but everything from then on, I just kept gaining and gaining weight. I need a new birth control."

For Birth Control "I got my Kyleena in October of 2018, and it wasn't very painful to get put in at all. I think that aspect really depends on what you're like pain tolerance-wise. I liked it a lot at first, I was able to have sex with my boyfriend and not worry about anything. I spotted a little bit for the first six weeks, mostly brown weird discharge that was kind of a turn-off. That cleared up, but then I noticed I had started to gain weight and feel INCREDIBLY anxious ALL THE TIME. I didn't know this was a side effect. I struggled with it before, just a little bit, but not to the crippling point it is currently at. My libido also tanked, and that defeats the whole purpose of even having it for me. I love the ease of knowing I'm not pregnant, but the insane mood swings and depression and anxiety are absolutely NOT worth it to me. I have an appointment to take it out six months after insertion, and I am so excited for the light at the end of this anxiety tunnel."

For Birth Control "I switched to Kyleena from the pill (Kariva). Could not be happier about this decision! I was on the pill for 3 years, my complaints were weight gain (15 pounds), water retention, dermatitis on my face that I tried to treat for all 3 years, and I was also forgetting to take pills occasionally. The insertion was VERY painful, to the extent that I passed out during the procedure. I had to lie down for about 20 minutes before the doctor let me go. The rest of the day, I had very bad cramps, I couldn't work, and pain meds did not do anything. But the next morning, I was able to return to work. I had moderate cramps the next two days, and on the 3rd day after insertion, I was back at the gym. After 3 to 4 days, the cramps went away. I had a light period and have been spotting for about a week. More importantly, my dermatitis went away 3 weeks after insertion! Also, I have lost about 5 pounds in 3 weeks. Now, I don't feel the IUD at all, no pain, and I do not experience any side effects so far."

For Birth Control "This is my second IUD! My first was 3 years ago, and now I’m looking forward to the next 4.5 years with this one. Yes, the procedure is very painful, but it should only take 10 minutes. My boyfriend was in the room with me the second time, and it helped with the anxiety. Since it’s my second IUD, I didn’t have any cramping the second time after insertion! No change in acne on my skin and no weight gain or mood changes. If the pain of the insertion is holding you back, just remember it’s not as bad as childbirth, and then you can forget about birth control for 5 years!!! Over 99% effective!!"

For Birth Control "Prior to Kyleena, I had Jaydess for 3 years, and it was amazing! No periods or side effects. I decided after the 3 years I wanted another one, and my doctor recommended Kyleena because 'it's the same amount of hormone but lasts for 5 years instead of 3'..... (This isn't true - the hormone level is higher in Kyleena). Anyway, insertion for Jaydess was easy and not painful, insertion for Kyleena was awful. Apparently, my cervix wouldn't go straight?... Side effects Kyleena: very low sex drive, increased appetite, bloating > weight gain, mood swings, definitely worsened my depression. Just overall not good. Similar side effects to when I took a birth control pill that was hormone heavy. So overall, I think my body just can't handle the hormones. Removed it a few days ago, had it for about 14 months."

For Birth Control "I went to my OB-GYN after experiencing heavy periods for years. Tried pills, and they never worked for me. So my doctor told me to try Kyleena. After weighing the options, I decided I would try it. Insertion was very painful, and I’m usually tolerant to pain. After insertion, I was told to expect on-and-off spotting for 3 months and then it would regulate. After I left, my period didn’t end until I got it removed. The entire time I had it, I had extreme cramping, almost like contractions. I also had extreme nausea, dizziness, bloating to where I looked pregnant, weight gain, and I was absolutely miserable. I went back for the string check and made them take it out. My doctor told me she has never heard of anyone having the reaction I had. I was so disappointed and do not recommend it based on my experience."

For Birth Control "I have Kyleena for a year now. I had it inserted a month after my second child was born and had no problem with the procedure. I chose Kyleena over Mirena because it has fewer hormones and you’re supposed to still have your period, what I thought to be closer to a natural thing. I bled and had light pelvic discomfort for three months. After that, I had irregular bleeding and spotting every single month. In one particular month, I bled so much I had to change pads every two hours, and the following two months after that, I had cramps and spots, but no real blood, which made me resort to a pregnancy test. I have also experienced very high levels of anxiety and some weight gain, discharges with a strong smell, cramping, and some acne. I really want it removed but need to decide the next form of birth control first."

For Birth Control "I’ll start out with this statement. It kept me from getting pregnant, so it technically did its job. With the insertion, I passed out from the pelvic spasm, and I almost passed out on the drive home. I never had any of the major issues reported with Kyleena, such as it moving or an ectopic pregnancy. I did, however, experience severe weight gain, the worst acne I’ve ever had, bacterial vaginosis multiple times, and it has increased my issues I was already having with my sleep as well as mental health problems. I’ve had it about a year, and I scheduled it to come out this week. Insurance completely paid for it, and if it weren’t for the side effects, I would keep it in because it is preventing pregnancy. But as I see it, that’s about all it’s good for."

For Birth Control "My GYN recommended Kyleena for my PCOS/heavy periods. Insertion was horrific, as I have a tilted pelvis, it took three GYNs and an ultrasound to finally insert it. I suffered cramps for 3 months/constant spotting, but not heavy bleeding. After 3 months, periods stopped, which was the only benefit of this IUD for me. My side effect symptoms: dizzy spells, memory loss, foggy brain, weight gain, anxiety, feeling overwhelmed, mood swings, extreme fatigue. I just felt so awful, like a woman of 80 rather than 40. I went to see a holistic doctor who advised me to get it removed immediately. After 18 months of having it, I had the IUD removed, and I already feel I have much more mental clarity. It's only 5 days, and I feel much more like my old self. Yes, I am having a heavy period, but in hindsight, this is better for me than all the other symptoms I suffered."
