For Birth Control "I had Kyleena inserted yesterday, and I have to say that I was pretty nervous after reading the reviews on here. But it is really not that bad. Just talk it all out with your doctor, and you will be just fine. My doctor prescribed me a cervix softener to take before insertion, which I think helped quite a bit. It's not a pleasant experience, and it did hurt, but not nearly as bad as I was anticipating. It was uncomfortable, but it only lasted for about 4 minutes! I had some pretty bad cramping for a few hours after, but taking Tylenol and using a heating pad worked wonders. Now it's the next day, and I have no pain, just some really light spotting! Just trust your doctor, ladies :)"

For Birth Control "INSERTION REVIEW: I had my Kyleena inserted yesterday. Before the appointment, my gyn prescribed me a cervix softener, and I took 800 mg ibuprofen. The insertion process was not painless, but also not unbearable. My provider numbed me using lidocaine, which I did not even feel, but I had intense and deep cramps when she measured and inserted the IUD. That was the worst part of the process for me. Following insertion, I had heavy period cramps for the remainder of the night and some fairly heavy bleeding that was manageable with ibuprofen and a heating pad. Today, I am back to work with no cramping and very light brown spotting. Other than that, I am basically back to normal. Will post another review once I’ve had it for longer."

For Birth Control "I’ve had the Kyleena since 2018. I felt a sharp pain during insertion that continued for a few minutes but settled down. They told me to come back, I think after a month, to get it checked to make sure it was still in the correct position. I ended up going in early because I was cramping so bad. I seriously thought it had moved, it hadn’t. Very heavy cramping when I had my period. My period was spotty but lasted a lot longer than usual. This went on for a little over 6 months. Then my periods finally stopped, and I barely cramped at all. I never had painful sex. I’ve never felt the strings, and neither has my husband. I honestly would highly recommend Kyleena. If you can get through the first half of the year, the benefits outweigh the cons. I feel like my skin has been better, mood has been better, sex has been great, condom-free, and most importantly, no unwanted pregnancies."

For Birth Control "I waited a long time to get an IUD because of all the horror stories online. I was planning to get a copper IUD, but after discussing it with my doctor, I settled on Kyleena. The insertion was quite painful, and I had horrible cramps for several hours afterward, but by the next day, they had calmed down, and since then, it's been great. I felt very, very emotional for a couple of weeks after it was put in, I'm assuming it was my body adjusting to it. However, since then, I've been so happy with it. I no longer get painful periods or ovulation cramps. I occasionally get very, very mild cramps and a little spotting. I've also had a bit of acne, but it has started to calm down. It's a huge relief having reliable birth control and no more extreme pain from periods."

For Birth Control "I hated this. The whole experience was a nightmare. The insertion was fine for me. The night and day after was horrific. I had to take a prescription painkiller and sleep to even get through the pain-worst bleeding and cramping I’ve ever dealt with. My periods were all over the place the entire year I had the IUD. They would come without warning and with a consistent cycle. I developed several cysts and was told this is just what happened with the IUD. My doctor told me to make it to 6 months. So I did. At 6 months, I was fed up, thought it was dislodged because of a sharp pain I was feeling in my abdomen. Nope, just cramping with the IUD. My doctor told me to wait it out another 6 months, so I did. And it just got worse. The cramps were horrific, and I got on this to help regulate and help with my periods. After a year, I had enough and got it removed. I gained 25 pounds, my mood swings were out of control, and the pain was horrific."

For Birth Control "So I just want to start this off by saying I’m sure Kyleena works for some but not for everyone. I don't do well with hormones. When I was researching, I found ParaGard, which had no hormones. I went to my gynecologist, and I told her I wanted the ParaGard and absolutely no hormones. She mentioned Kyleena, but I still said I didn’t want any hormones. So I thought we agreed on ParaGard. I got the IUD inserted, and it was painful, something I had never felt before, but nothing I couldn’t live with. I had really bad cramping in the beginning, then it got better. After the 2 1/2 months came around, I would get random swings of extreme depression and anxiety. It was affecting my personal and professional life. I thought I was going crazy. I later found out she put in the wrong one, it was Kyleena. Ladies, I really recommend being very stern with what you want to your doctors, and before you do anything that is going to mess with your hormones, get them tested to see if it will work with your body."

For Birth Control "Got my Kyleena inserted a few weeks ago, and I experienced minimal pain due to being put under anesthetic. Just a little bit of cramps when I woke up afterwards. Horrible to hear all the bad stories of what other people have been through. So far, it’s been amazing! Haven’t got my period yet, which is a little bit worrying, but it’s only a little late. My gynecologist said I may stop having a period altogether. I have no regrets, and I hope I never experience any side effects. The Kyleena isn’t for everyone, but it works great for me!"

For Birth Control "I've had Kyleena for about 2 years now. I've loved it until about the last two months. Insertion was okay, and the rest of the day was very painful (but I was able to get through work with a couple breaks). But after that, it was fine. I've loved it since then. My periods are slightly longer but definitely not as much flow, I am able to lose weight easier than when I was on the pill. However, cramps have definitely been worse since getting Kyleena. I've always gotten cramps the week before my period, and they just intensified. They haven't been too bad, though, until the past two periods. The last one, I was crying and terrified-almost puking and passing out. I can tell the ones I'm having now will get intense too, that's how I stumbled on here. I have a gyne appointment in July, so I plan to ask about them, so I'll let you all know. I definitely love it, but I don't like scaring my boyfriend because I'm scared, in pain, and crying. Maybe I just need to be more proactive with remedies... unsure."

For Birth Control "Love it! I dealt with the pain, spotting, and discomfort of a full-sized copper IUD for 4 years... all symptoms resolved within 2 weeks of removal. I tried the pill but had so many side effects. I had Kyleena implanted, and I have almost no side effects except very, very mild menstrual symptoms (spotting, no bleeding, mild cramping, mild breast tenderness). I didn’t expect my period to go away, but it basically has - again just very mild spotting. It's hard to find tampons small enough to use (lites). No issues during sex, cramping from implantation resolved within a few weeks. I wish I got one earlier."

For Birth Control "I got Kyleena about a month ago and immediately had a bad reaction to it. Started sweating, bad cramps, and nonstop bleeding. I have now developed pretty bad anxiety when I had gotten my anxiety very well under control for the past 7 months. Now I get dizzy spells nearly every day and feel like I'm going to black out, it's hard to breathe and just a lot of brain fog. I know some people love it, but personally, I have had a bad experience."

For Birth Control "I had my Kyleena put in 2 years ago. I previously was on the pill for 7 years, while on the pill, I did not have a period or cramps. Kyleena is a different story. I have cramping 3-7 days of the week minimum, randomly start my period, or spot, always with different amounts of flow. The cramps were so bad after a year, my gyno was worried and had an ultrasound of my ovaries. I often have pain/cramping after sex since I had Kyleena inserted. My cravings are constant, and I have put on a significant amount of weight, 40 pounds, also having the hardest time getting rid of the weight. Kyleena is convenient, but not sure how much longer I’m going to be dealing with this pain."

For Birth Control "I've had my Kyleena IUD for a month and a half. I spotted on and off for the first month, but it's done now. I had a minor breakout on my face and neck during the first month as well. But now my skin is as clear as it was on Tri-Lo-Sprintec (generic Ortho-Tri-Cyclen Lo). I've not gotten a period yet. Insertion was not as painful as I expected it to be. I was able to get up and walk around just fine immediately after it was over, and then I went out to lunch. I had some minor cramps for the rest of the day, but some ibuprofen took care of it. I've not had any problems with weight gain or mood. In fact, my mood and energy levels have improved compared to when I was on the pill, I also don't have sore breasts like I did on the pill."

For Birth Control "I got Kyleena about 8 months ago, in October. I got it because of my endometriosis, which was causing my cramps to be unbearable 24/7. The insertion was just about as painful as you’d imagine, but it’s a very short-lived pain. I had cramps the day I got it in, but other than that, I was as good as gold. I never get my period, but regardless of where I would be in my cycle if I did get my period, my cramps are even worse than they were before I got it. The pain of the cramps is equivalent to the pain you have when they first insert it, so very harsh. I’m not sure that this is an experience that anyone else will have, but I think it’s safe to assume that it won’t always help."

For Birth Control "I got my Kyleena IUD placed in the end of Oct 2020. I was super scared having watched and read a lot of not so great reviews of possible side effects. But my insertion went great. I had very mild cramping during the procedure and no dizziness afterward. For the first month after my IUD was placed, I had very mild spotting/bleeding. Now I am about 3 months in and I do get a light period and occasional cramping. But it's worth not having to worry about getting pregnant. I highly recommend Kyleena as birth control!"

For Birth Control "I had insertion of Kyleena on 02/03/2019, and since then, I have been patiently waiting for the side effects to subside. I had bleeding after insertion that turned into a full-blown period lasting 18 days. It seems to be common that my period comes at the same time every month and still lasts almost 3 weeks. Even when I'm not fully bleeding, there's always some type of smelly discharge. Haven't really been able to have sex without feeling insecure about blood or smells. Super annoying, I guess it is effective birth control since you can never have sex without a period interrupting you. I also have the worst cramps and bleed heavier than I ever did on my regular period. I did lose weight, but I have increased anxiety and mood swings. I considered taking it out sooner, I really wanted this to work, but all of the side effects almost aren't worth it to me."

For Birth Control "I like Kyleena for the most part. Insertion was not super painful when I had it done, it was like a big cramp and a little crampy for the rest of the day, nothing unbearable in my case. However, I wanted to write this review because I have gained weight on Kyleena. I immediately became bigger than I was post-birth weight! I went from a size 7 to 13-14! I was even breastfeeding. No matter if I eat healthy or not, I cannot get the pounds off."

For Birth Control "I’ve given Kyleena a month and a half, and I can honestly say I’m dissatisfied and unsure of what to do next given the negative side effects I’ve experienced already. I’ve had cramping halfway through the month, which was literally worse than the process of termination I experienced. The pain from this IUD was so bad, it left me doubling over, and pain actually traveled down to my feet. It didn’t even result in a period either, it’s just been constant spotting, which didn’t stop until a few days ago. I’ve had cystic acne, irritability, and depression, as well as a moderately dull pain/cramping that comes and goes as my mood fluctuates. I’ve decided to have it removed. I’m so saddened that this is all women have to turn to in this day and age for birth control. There are way too many side effects, you’d think there would be something else by now that doesn’t hurt and ruin women’s lives the way our current options do."

For Birth Control "I've had the Kyleena now for over a year. The insertion wasn't very painful, but the days/weeks afterward was awful. I would cramp so badly that the cramps would stop me in my tracks. My periods went from normal flow to extremely light/spotting. I completely lost all my libido, and I became very dry. I became severely depressed. My headaches/migraines increased substantially. I know that this BC is to blame for my diminished libido and dry vag, but I don't know if it has anything to do with my migraines and depression. When I spoke to my OB about it, she said that I shouldn't be experiencing that because the IUD keeps the hormones localized in the uterus instead of it spreading throughout my body. So I continued with the IUD. After 8-9 months, my periods stopped completely. I have no desire for sex whatsoever. I am constantly dry down there, and it is very uncomfortable to be this dry when I am still in my mid-20s. I do still have this IUD to this day."

For Birth Control "Not sure how I feel about Kyleena. I had light periods at the beginning of November, and nothing since, so no periods or spotting for 7 weeks. When I was on Mirena, I always had light periods. I get constant cramps as if I was going to get my periods, but nothing. But with the Kyleena, my mood has changed, though. I get irritated, I feel depressed, I got zits (which I have never had before), I cry way too often for things I usually wouldn't. I've called my doctor. Something is not right."

For Birth Control "PLEASE don't let bad reviews prevent you from trying Kyleena! I got mine inserted on 09/05/17. Insertion was not painful. It was more uncomfortable than anything. Got mine inserted a week and a half before my period, and it still didn't hurt. I took 800 mg of Ibuprofen approximately 2 hours prior to insertion. After insertion, I had no cramps and spotted for about an hour. Everyone reacts to pain differently. So don't let the bad reviews keep you from trying this BC out. Will do updated reviews after 1 month and 6 months."

For Birth Control "Okay, so I’ve had the Kyleena for over two years now. Insertion was painful but not unbearable. For the first 2 weeks, I bled about the amount of a normal period or less. I suffer from very irregular periods, and I have all of my life (I am now 21). Now, since being on Kyleena, my periods have completely vanished, and I haven’t had a menstrual cycle in over a year now. Sometimes I get occasional cramping. I also gained 20 pounds in about two years, but now I’m slowly starting to lose the weight. As well, I suffered with acne a lot of my life. After insertion, my acne was a lot worse, but finally now it’s pretty much gone. I’ve never gotten pregnant, so it’s working. Also, during the beginning, my hormones affected my mood, but it took about 8-12 months for that to even out. I also experienced mild depression and anxiety, which may or may not have to do with my hormones. It’s been two years now, and everything seems to be normalized for me, besides the minimal cramping. I hope this helps."

For Birth Control "My midwife suggested Kyleena birth control since I was breastfeeding, and you can still conceive without a period. Discussed my experience the last time I was on the pill (suicidal thoughts and increased anxiety, it was awful) and was nearly in tears because I never want to experience that stuff again. She mentioned an IUD, and while Kyleena has hormones, it is quite a low dose, so we opted to give it a try. I got my period at 6 months postpartum. They were fairly light, but I noticed they would sometimes last up to 9 days. I'm now 14 months postpartum, and my period is almost nonexistent. Spotting for a few days, nothing horrible. For me, Kyleena has been a blessing. The only negative thing is that I get about 1 day of bad cramping, like ovulation cramping that sometimes makes me feel nauseated. Overall, it is the best birth control I've been on. Insertion was a tad uncomfortable, but for those few minutes of discomfort, it is worth it because we are not ready for baby #2 just yet. I am 29, had it placed when I was 28."
