For Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on Tresiba for only 5 days - I cannot get my sugars to drop below 200 - they are actually more in the high 2s/low 3s. We are working with the dose - started at 20U (200U pen) and high all the time - now I'm on 26U - still high. The doc said give this 3 more days then increase to 32U. I am not having any other side effects. I was on metformin (took myself off that) and a pump which was not working very well. So I am hoping that once we get the dose figured out it will be worth it. I am also starting on Ozempic but have only had one dose so far. I'm trying to be optimistic - as I am really loving not having to wear a pump - honestly - this keeps me more honest - when I can dose for food - it gave me more freedom to cheat!"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I began using Tresiba shortly after Lantus. I had to switch because of my change in health insurance plans. I loved Lantus and had pretty regular blood sugar levels on it, but once I began using Tresiba, my blood sugars would drop in the middle of the night. I have had some scary moments with it. I've gone to bed with a blood sugar of 220 (which I never did on Lantus) and then would wake up at 5 am with a blood sugar of 30. It has caused some serious nighttime drops and only finally levels out by early afternoon. I do not recommend this product to any type 1'ers out there. My next try will be Levemir or Basaglar."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "A little background: I’m a T1 diabetic who’s successfully used pens forever (last A1C was 6.3). I’m also a medical student and like to tinker with my prescriptions when I learn new stuff. So, I had high hopes when I learned about degludec and talked to my endo about it. Unfortunately, Tresiba just didn’t work for me – it caused wild swings in my daily sugars, almost as if it made me more sensitive to my rapid-acting insulin (which doesn’t physiologically make sense, I know). For 3 1/2 weeks, I tried all sorts of different things to get a handle on it, but the final straw was when I had to ask a quiz proctor for an excuse to go buy juice because I’d eaten all my glucose tablets (something I’ve never had to do in my life). Maybe with more time it would’ve calmed down, but I was so frustrated after the quiz incident that I immediately switched back to Lantus - and my sugars normalized immediately. I’m now on Toujeo and have had no problems. Every body is different."

For Diabetes Mellitus "Was on Tresiba in the morning only about a year with great results. For the last couple of months, I have elevated glucose levels at night with fasting highs. I have had diabetes for 53 years, so I am not a newbie! My doctor moved me back to Levemir in the evening, and it is causing nighttime lows and daytime highs. I am considering going back to Tresiba and splitting my dose to twice a day, which he did not suggest, so this is just my idea. It is a once-daily, 24-hour dose. Anyone have any comments about trying this?"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I am a Type 1 diabetic for 68 years. I tried Tresiba for 2 weeks, as suggested by the metabolic center that I go to. It was terrible and did not work at all. The metabolic center said I should take a quick acting insulin every 5 hours, but this actually made it worse, as the blood sugars went up and down, causing more grief. I would not recommend this product. It is terrible and will probably cause damage to your health. I have gone back to the insulin routine that I was taking before starting this. I feel 100% better, and my blood sugars and appetite have returned to normal."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I very much wanted this insulin to be great, but as usual, the pharmaceutical companies failed again. This insulin seemed at first to eliminate the dawn phenomenon I experienced taking Humulin N, Lantus, Levemir. But now, I can't seem to get any balance to occur no matter what I do! It's completely unpredictable. I've had a 500+ fasting blood glucose after going to sleep at a decent 140 the night before. Or wake up at 6 am at 100, take my daily dose, not eat, and be 350 by noon. The drastic blood glucose swings on this are extremely frustrating. All the money big pharma makes on this med, you'd think they could improve lives, ha! Guess I'll go back to Humulin N. Lantus kills my back and burns. Levemir gives me yeast infections."

For Type 2 Diabetes "My insurance dropped coverage for Basaglar, so my doctor switched me to Tresiba. Actually, I think it was a good move since, taking Tresiba for a month now, my BGL fasting levels are far more consistent and lower. Typically, on Basaglar, my fasting levels were 150-200, and now average less than 140 and many times 120's. I have also used Novolog for big meals but have recently started on Jardiance to try and reduce insulin intake. I was never impressed with Basaglar, so I was glad to try something else."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I take Tresiba 50 units at night for almost 8 months now, combine it with Janumet XR 100/1000 in the morning and 5 units of Novo Rapid with a light carb lunch or 10 units with a full lunch. I buy all my medicine in the Philippines, which is cheaper there. My total medication expense a month is around $200 with no RX insurance but just a senior citizen discount. Here my copay for just Januvia for a 90-day supply is $800, while in Manila my wife can buy it for $1 a tablet of 100 mg Januvia. So for 90 days, she spends only $90 against the $800 copay here in the US. Tresiba I heard will cost me $750 copay for a 90-day supply in the USA, another $750 copay for Novo Rapid. Life is cheaper for diabetics in the Philippines."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I'm from Poland. I took Tresiba in October 2019. My sugars were not too bad. But my sense of well-being was terrible. I had shortness of breath, headache, and dizziness, stomach pain on the right side, fatigue, sadness. After 2 months, I returned to Levemir. In April 2020, I started to feel terrible, it turned out that I now have celiac disease and histamine intolerance. My doctor looked at me as if I was crazy as I told him that I felt terrible after Tresiba. I have the impression that Tresiba led to celiac disease."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "51 years a type 1 diabetic. Currently using Tresiba and Humalog. Since beginning Tresiba 1 month ago (over RELION NPH), I have reduced daily blood sugar swings consistently. The daily Humalog (formerly RELION REGULAR) is only a VERY FEW units - morning basal is 13 units (at 5 am) and evening basal is 10-12 units (at 5-6 pm). I use Dexcom G6 and A1C is 5.0 currently. Purchasing Tresiba CHEAPER or more AFFORDABLY would be nice - this takes a good deal of my income, and this is the only thing really discouraging about this wonderful insulin."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I have been a big fan of this medication, it used to be a miracle, and it changed my blood sugar from bad fluctuation to a steady line. Lately, in the last few months, it’s started to give me headaches, low blood pressure feeling-“not really low blood pressure”-makes me aware of my heart and strange dizziness, lower attention. I never had any of those symptoms in the past with Tresiba, and as soon as I take it, the side effects start appearing. I’m now on other medicine beside this and NovaRapid. I wish Tresiba sees my review and makes this drug like it used to be."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have Type 2 diabetes. My doctor recommended that I take Tresiba. I have used it for 10 days, and I lost my sex life. I immediately stopped taking Tresiba and gained it back. So my message is not to take Tresiba if you love your sex life."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "If you’re type 1 and reading these reviews, take all type 2 reviews with a grain of salt. It seems many were ill-advised by their doctors and made the switch with few additional check-ins, were not staying hydrated, and likely expected insulin to be the miracle fix when in reality many other things need to be addressed. The American medical system is so broken. Also, take note that it is not an exact unit-for-unit switch. I was taking 20u Lantus then ended up on a 13u/14u every other day split. Tresiba is the ONLY long-acting insulin I will ever consider. It has an approx 40-48 hour life in the body, making it possible for me to have more stability in my life. If you’re seeing constant highs at the end of your Lantus dose, or splitting the dose, give Tresiba a fair shot - use for a month, STAY HYDRATED, and see how stable your basal insulin is."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "These are my side effects - feet so swollen cannot walk, pain in my legs bad, fluid in my lungs very, very sick. Been on this since December. It helps to lower my high blood sugars but has made me very sick. I am hoping to be back on Lantus. Refuse to take this. 7 months of hell. Think it's lawyer time. Good luck, everyone who is on this."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I thought I was going crazy, but it turns out the core problem is this insulin. I went out of my way to get blood tests, MRI scans, and constant trips to the GP regarding heart palpitations, numbness in my body, and feeling dazed. Turns out it’s been happening ever since I started taking this insulin. It makes me feel very good knowing I’m not alone. My experience with this insulin is horrible. I wish I had the same experience as the majority who say it’s changed their life. Never going near this insulin again. I have just one more day with it before I officially switch back to Lantus."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have never been more sick than I was on Tresiba. We were at a hotel in Pigeon Forge, TN, and the water was turned off for the night, and I was vomiting all night. I kept thinking about the poor cleaning lady, what a mess she would have to clean up - she probably quit the next day. I was so, so sick!"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Tresiba is awesome. I was on multiple pumps for the last 20 years, with an A1C around 6.2-6.7 and a standard deviation of about 50 to now my A1C of 5.1-5.6, standard deviation of about 25-30. This is a magnificent drug. I keep flat most of the day, it's like a magnet wants me to be in range. I take it first thing when I wake up."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Best basal insulin on the market. I have tried Levemir and Lantus, neither comes close to the flatness of Tresiba. Tresiba works over a long period. Downside is that where I inject, I feel itchy for a few moments. Great insulin and cannot imagine life without it!"

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Was on Lantus for years, gave me terrible random low blood sugars during the night and day. On Tresiba now for many years and the best basal insulin I’ve ever had, I’ve also taken Levemir. I found on Tresiba my hypos are less in number and less severe, much more manageable and flatter blood sugars. Love it, and highly recommend it. Only negative is that the pre-filled pens leak post-injection."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "I've been a type one diabetic for 41 years, and my insurance no longer covers Lantus, so my endocrinologist recommended this. I changed to try Tresiba and said it was the best thing ever, however, something is not right because my blood sugars are all over the place, and when I give myself my short-acting NovoLog insulin to counteract carbohydrate intake or to correct blood sugars over 100, it takes three hours for the insulin to actually show that it’s working, and then I'm all of a sudden on a sudden downward slope. I'm confused, I never dealt with this when I was on Lantus, but I read the other review that said you have to wait about eight days for it to work, so I started taking this six days ago. Maybe in the next couple of days, I’ll notice a difference?"

For Type 2 Diabetes "Type 1 diabetic since I was in my 30s, never had any issues with any kind of dizziness, blacking out, wooziness... even when my glucose was so high, a reading with a glucose meter only produced a high reading... not even a number. I was told by a doctor that your body does what it does, so I never took it seriously. That is until the medical profession started scaring people with this A1C crap and your body not producing insulin! I started taking it seriously then and started taking Tresiba seriously now since 2015, originally starting at 30 units a day without any incidents at all! Because of my circumstances with my wife having dementia in 2016, I was not eating on a schedule, mostly processed foods, and increased my insulin intake to 2 shots a day, 12 hours apart at 30 units each, my A1C was around 8.2%, increased to 14.8%, and it's now down to around 10.4% & 10.2% the last 2 blood tests... now test my glucose 2 times a day for the last 3 months, adjusting units each shot. Erratic."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Like many others, I was forced by my insurance to switch from Lantus. I started using Basaglar. I was never thrilled with the pens they have. Very hard to push. Anyway, recently I was forced to switch again by my insurance. This time I switched to Tresiba. I'm still on my first box of it, but so far I like it. I had no issues with the Basaglar insulin, but I think that the Tresiba is more effective for me. Both the Basaglar and Tresiba tend to make me bottom out overnight (made obvious by my Dexcom), but if I have some protein before bed, I tend to not wake up with a low. With Tresiba, however, unless I'm having a heavy carb food, I find I sometimes don't need to inject any Humalog. One less injection! Works for me."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "The only thing I hate is the pen injector, it pushes very hard. It actually bothers my thumb joint. After 6 months, I have to use my other hand to push the injector button in. They need to get them like my Lantus, which hardly takes any effort. I will probably switch back to Lantus just because of that. You'd think after all the effort put into creating insulin, they wouldn't cut corners on the injection pen."

For Diabetes, Type 1 "Started Tresiba in Feb 2020 - changed insulin frequently since 1988, no issues, so didn't give it any thought. During March to May 2020, I had 3 episodes I can only describe as severe 'hot flushes'; tingling from top to toe, skin on fire. When that passed (30 seconds), I was then nauseous and dizzy, with a cold sweat. Each time this was within 1 min of injecting Tresiba (20 units) and was followed by 4 hours of shivering through the night, the same as a fever, then feeling normal the next day. Upsetting, and timing-wise coincided with the start of Covid, so thought possibly a factor. Found this site and stories from other type 1 diabetics reporting the same. My doc swapped me back to the Lantus I was on previously, no further issues since (5 months now). The doc did say he had 4 other patients who had side effects. Looking back, I did feel more dizzy than usual on Tresiba and frequently felt faint. All sorted now, but we were warned!"
