For Irritable Bowel Syndrome "I was placed on Imipramine, 10 mg. Taken at bedtime. The 3rd week after starting it, I began having nerve-like pain and burning down both legs into my feet, lower back pain and muscle spasms in my back and legs. I couldn't sleep and was irritable. Three days later, I started noticing balance and coordination difficulties. It was so bad I was finding it hard to stand and walk, often falling into walls. I was dizzy and shaky. My cognitive abilities were diminished. Days later, close to the end of week 3 of being on the Imipramine, I began to have nerve-like pain in my arms and hands, my lips and tongue were numb, and my lips were peeling excessively. I was sure it was the Imipramine by then and stopped taking it at week 4. Thirty hours after my last dose, I noticed a slight improvement of side effects. Four to five days later, all the side effects were greatly reduced, and by seven days after the last dose of the Imipramine, all symptoms had stopped and I began to feel like my normal self. I never noticed that it helped the IBS."

For Depression "25 mg, once a day at night. For the first 7-8 weeks of taking this medication, there was no positive effect on my mood, around week 3/4, my mood was noticeably worse. During the 7-8 week period, I constantly felt disconnected and lacked any sort of motivation or energy to engage in any activity that involved thinking, especially social situations. I would constantly have a dry mouth and dry eyes, and in addition, I also had trouble urinating in the morning, and when standing up, I would feel light-headed and dizzy for a few seconds, this was worse if I had been lying down. However, now my mood is much more stable and the side effects are gone, but if I miss more than 2-3 doses, then I feel incredibly low for about a week but then pick up again."

For Primary Nocturnal Enuresis "Side effects are horrendous. I would rather wear a pad! Side effects: hot flashes, neck pain, muscle spasms, decreased sensation left hand/arm, dizzy, hypotension when standing, and no instruction about weaning off."

Imipramine for Depression "Waste of 75 bucks. My mood only increased slightly, and in exchange I got terrible bouts of dizziness and vertigo. Most of the time I felt like I'd been shot with a tranquilizer dart. Horrible experience. After only a week or so, I started to get nausea as well, so I had to stop. I regret spending money on this med."

For Pain "I was prescribed this medication for chronic widespread muscle pain (fibromyalgia) and neuropathic pain, and allodynia all over, plus vulvodynia. It does take the edge off, and the pain is not as intense as it used to be, but still continuing sadly. It did take away my sleep paralysis episodes and sleep hallucinations, amazing for sleep too. It's a great drug, it's the only one I can tolerate. I tried amitriptyline and all the SSRIs, but the side effects have been horrendous and had a devastating effect on my functioning. The only effects imipramine has on me are some dizziness and drowsiness during the day, fast heart rate, and mild loss of libido, but other than these, I feel it's very useful with pain and sleep. The first few days expect nausea and somnolence."
