For Anxiety "I have been on this medication almost a year and have been experiencing a lot of symptoms which I have thought were due to benzodiazepine withdrawal. I experience grogginess, fatigue, lightheadedness, horrible anxiety, depression, palpitations, tremors, bad dreams, brain fog, cognitive issues, unable to concentrate, I had nausea for 3 weeks, dizziness, feeling weird in and around my eyes, felt mental, no appetite, constipation, stomach issues, fear, weakness, etc. I'm starting to wonder if Vistaril is causing this?!!!! I take 50mg at night before bed and a doctor said I could take another 50mg if I wake, so I have been, and now I'm thinking all my issues are stemming from this junk! I had some issues prior to medication but nothing like this!"

For Anxiety "This drug hydroxyzine worked for my anxiety, however, it caused bad nausea and dizziness the following day, even when taking a half dose. It sucks to find something that works, but the side effects were anxiety-invoking themselves. I had to stop it."

For Pruritus "My husband, who has been diabetic for many years, suddenly developed an itchy, scratchy rash. He's someone who soldiers on despite everything. So he went to the VA Hospital and they prescribed hydroxyzine capsules, telling him to take them at bedtime. He also is using a salve for the topical skin discomfort. He slept like a log last night and already (2 days in) feels better; his rash is much improved and should be gone pronto if the good response continues. The doctor was very clear - warned him (it also says so on the bottle): don't drive, ride a bike, or whatever until you see if it makes you groggy or dizzy - a common side effect. He slept for 12 hours last night, so that was a plus. This medicine is very effective!"

For Allergies "This medicine is way too powerful for my issue. I was attacked by bedbugs and given this prescription for itching. I am overly tired, get dizzy spells, and have had consecutive nightmares. It works if you plan on spending the next 24 hours at home."

For Anxiety "I have been on this medication on and off since July of this year. I was prescribed Hydroxyzine Pam, and it was working when I first started taking it. Then I started on it a month later, then noticed that it started messing with my nervous system. So, my new doctor prescribed Hydroxyzine HCL. I started taking this off and on. My nervous system hasn't been right, I've never experienced this. I've been prescribed four different types of meds for anxiety. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take this. I feel shaky, extreme dizziness, and a fast heart rate. My body is not agreeing with the medication. This is the worst medication ever."

Hydroxyzine for Anxiety "I'm 18, and I've never been on medications before. I have performance and social anxiety. So when I went to my doctor and asked for something to help me survive my everyday life, he recommended Atarax. But I have been taking them for 2 weeks now with no effect whatsoever. Granted, they are only 10 mg and small as a breadcrumb, but I was at least expecting some effect from it. The only thing I felt was nausea and dizziness. I must say I'm quite disappointed."

Hydroxyzine for Anxiety "Made my heart pound and the anxiety worse (dizziness, tingling of limbs). I reduced my dose from 50 mg twice a day to 50 mg at nighttime only, hoping it would affect me differently... No dice. I am half afraid of this medication."

For Sedation "I'm giving this medication a 5 because it did not help with sleep at all. HOWEVER, I found this medication very useful for nausea and dizziness. I occasionally get dizzy spells with nausea. I was told that when this happens, I get small crystal formations inside my ear canal, which cause the issue. I used to take Dramamine for it, which helped some. I find that Hydroxyzine works much more efficiently. I recently was sick with food poisoning, LOTS of nausea almost 24 hours a day for nearly a week. This medication was a godsend for relieving the nausea."

For Anxiety "Got prescribed Atarax for insomnia and anxiety, and each time I’ve taken it, I get extremely tired, my vision starts to spin, and it makes me dizzy like being way too drunk. It also makes my anxiety so much worse, and my mouth gets so bone dry on it I feel like I’m gonna shrivel up and dehydrate."

Hydroxyzine for Sedation "I experience insomnia only when I am away from my own country, and my work involves traveling and working in other countries (it starts after a week or two of my new workplace), and a doctor prescribed Atarax for me. I take only half of a pill (i.e., 12.5 mg), and it helps me a lot. I reduced it to half a pill because the full tab makes me dizzy the next day. I am 40."

Hydroxyzine for Anxiety "So I started taking Atarax after I went to the hospital with a horrible UTI that was making me incredibly anxious and nauseous. It worked great the first time they gave it to me, possibly because the symptoms were just then getting treated. Every time after has been terrible. I feel insanely weak, like bedridden almost. I’m always super dizzy/lightheaded, and I feel like I’m not real if that makes sense. The dreams are too real, I’ve been waking up in my dreams, so my brain tricks me to think I’m awake (I’ve never had this happen). I tried one more time today, and it was all the same, plus some good ol' depression. I don’t recommend this unless it’s absolutely necessary :("

For Sedation "I was prescribed 25 mg and was told to take 1-2, 8 hours before I needed to wake up. I have bipolar disorder and frequently don’t want to/can’t fall asleep. Taking 1 helps reduce nightmares, but doesn’t make me feel drowsy until I wake up in the morning! Taking 2 knocks me out, but again, I wake up feeling disoriented, dizzy, and nauseous. The feeling typically persists for 6-8 hours after I wake up (from sleeping 8 hours). I have a history of sleepwalking, but once I started taking this medicine, I developed a habit of sleep eating. I frequently eat large amounts of food about an hour after falling asleep and rarely remember in the morning. I usually find food wrappers in my bed and the memory starts to come back. I’ve never had this issue until I started taking this med."

For Anxiety "I had taken a 25mg right before bed because that's when my panic attacks are bad, and it made me feel worse. I felt super dizzy, and that made me panic. This morning, I can't even get out of bed - it's noon, normally I get up by 8am. I feel super drained, and my head feels heavy, it feels like a huge hangover."

For Anxiety "My doctor is taking me off Xanax after being on it for a year. He prescribed me 10 mg of this drug. The worst experience ever. For Anxiety "I was put on hydroxyzine March 26, but I didn't take it until March 28. I am also on Prozac, and they raised the dosage to 20 mg. Well, since being on hydroxyzine, I feel very dizzy throughout the whole day. I have trouble sleeping at night. Went to the ER the day before Easter because I felt so out of it. My heart was racing, my head felt so groggy. Woke up this morning and still feel out of it. Didn't take it at 2 like I was supposed to, so let's see what happens. But not being able to function or feel like I'm able to breathe properly sucks. Not taking this drug again."

For Anxiety "I took 2 25 mg pills last night. Woke up today with a bad headache and dry mouth. I had some bizarre dreams on the stuff and felt a bit of an antihistamine hangover. A few convulsions in my sleep. I think next time I will try 12.5 mg's. I have a tolerance to everything except antihistamines for some reason. I did not care for the crappy side effects I experienced upon waking up the next day. Dehydrated, sluggish, dizzy, depressed, dry mouth."

For Anxiety "My terrible doctor refuses to give me anything for my crippling anxiety that actually helps and gave me this junk. Just one 50 mg pill made me a zombie. I was dizzy and lethargic all day. I could barely get out of bed. And I am not a lightweight. I can't believe I was supposed to take 3 a day!!"

For Anxiety "I was prescribed 10 mg hydroxyzine for anxiety as needed and was also instructed to take it for sleep as needed since I have an irregular sleep schedule. I can't say if the medication helps with my anxiety or not, because all it does is knock me out for the next 8-10 hours after taking it... and even after waking up, I'm super fatigued, weak, and get dizzy if I do anything besides lay in bed for the next 24 hours. I have a 90-day script, and I haven't had to refill it since I've only taken about 5 pills in the past 90 days..."

For Allergies "I was prescribed this med by my dermatologist for severe itching on my arms, which would keep me awake. I take 25 mg at night. This makes me somewhat drowsy, however, the itch stopped. Fast forward 11 days into taking it, and I broke out with hives/rash that looked like blisters. I have a headache and severe dizziness. The side effects are not worth the itch benefits for me. I would not recommend this drug. I gave it a two because it helped the initial problem but created new problems that far outweigh the benefit."

For Anxiety "I was prescribed 50 mg hydroxyzine for anxiety and nausea after a hospital stay involving unknown GI, pancreas, and kidney issues. It works so well and fast. If I take it during the day/on an empty stomach though, it makes me so tired and dizzy, I have to sleep. (I’m very thin though, I’m going to cut my pills in half now.) It puts me at peace from my anxiety mentally and physically and helps my nausea. I don’t think I could take this daily though because of how zombie-like I become."

For Anxiety "I take this medication 3 times a day, and I actually like it. It’s really helping, the only thing I don’t like is I get really tired and dizzy on them, but overall it’s pretty effective."
