Hydromorphone for Pain "I received this medication in the ER for kidney stones. Twice before, the ER had given me Demerol for this pain, and while it helped, it did not completely give me relief. THIS did! I do not know if it caused nausea or not because they gave me Zofran along with it. I know that if I am ever in severe pain again, I hope the doctor will give me this medicine. Also, I had no memory loss like I do with morphine, which is a plus. I only received it through IV."

Hydromorphone for Pain "I was in the E.R. for pain associated with a condition causing kidney stones {1 in each kidney}. I am severely allergic to all anti-emetic drugs (anti-nausea/vomiting drugs), but I required a potent painkiller. I was given Dilaudid by IV, having never been on anything stronger than Percocet pills. The doctors were afraid that I'd become very nauseous, vomit profusely, and be unable to be treated for nausea. To my relief, it did the trick! I only vomited once and was prescribed hydromorphone 2mg. NO SIDE EFFECTS! I was too sick to see the beauty in everyday life, until now!"

Hydromorphone for Pain "I have had this twice, both times it made me mildly nauseous and did nothing for the pain. The first time was when I made a trip to the emergency room for a migraine. It was a terrible migraine. After about 15 minutes of me screaming and wailing in the emergency room, it started to wane. It was very mild by the time the doctor came in to talk to me. But he still gave me an injection of Dilaudid. And even for the mild headache, it didn't help at all. The second time was after a hysterectomy. I had excruciating pain from trapped gas under my ribs near my liver. Nurses kept telling me to press my pain med dispensing button, and I was already. But it wasn't even taking the edge off."

For Chronic Pain "I've taken hydromorphone 4 mg for years in pain management. 5x a day. It works 95%, now it's dropped down to 90%, so my pain doctor decided to put me on BupreNorphine alone for one week, then he added Naloxone! Big mistake! Even the pharmacy questioned why, when I called him about bad side effects! I can't believe after 7 years of going to this pain management doctor, he did this to me! I have 2 and a half bulging discs in my lower back with degenerative disc disease, sciatica nerve damage on the left side. Since I told this doctor, the medication went from 95% to 90% effective. He took me off then, and instead of trying different pain medications (after I had this bad reaction). When I called his office and complained, he told me to come back in on Monday (this was on a Thursday), but stay on this stuff that caused me more increased back and leg pain, nausea, diarrhea, shallow breathing, and muscle spasms! The doctor was told to tell me 'it was in the best interest of all that I stay on this horrible medicine'! Are you kidding me? CANCELLED/request."

Hydromorphone for Pain "I had a negative reaction to Dilaudid after a surgical procedure. It made me itch horribly, and my mouth broke out on the inside. I had to stop taking it after two days when the palms of my hands and the bottoms of my feet were itching like crazy. I was then prescribed Ultram, which made me so nauseous I had to go to bed. I finally just quit the pain medicines after four days and coasted along with ibuprofen until I was over the surgery completely."

Hydromorphone for Chronic Pain "I have been given Dilaudid for sciatic nerve pain and took only 0.05 mg at 6 pm, and it is now 4:30 am and I have not been able to fall asleep. If you cannot sleep, so I put up with the pain and ditched this pill. I felt like I was on a slow high, oh my God, what a horrible feeling."

Hydromorphone for Pain "I have been given Dilaudid through an IV on several occasions, and on all those occasions, I'd rather just dealt with the pain. Today, the hospital gave me Dilaudid and some nausea medication... On every occasion that I have been given Dilaudid through IV, instantly my head gets too heavy, I begin to get dizzy and lightheaded. I always get VERY NAUSEOUS and confused, so I usually sleep it off because I hate the feeling it gives me. This time was different, I fell asleep about 40 minutes after getting the medication, and every couple of minutes I kept waking up. All of a sudden, I became very hot and clammy while feeling very cold."

Hydromorphone for Pain "Was given this medicine after bunion surgery and not told what the effects might be. Got very tired, nauseated, and very dry mouthed immediately. Was also given nausea medicine with this. Went into respiratory arrest and cardio arrest at the same time. Thank God I was revived. I was clinically dead. This stuff is terrible."

Hydromorphone for Chronic Pain "Brand name only! The brand name Dilaudid works great and zero side effects. Mallinckrodt generic only makes you nauseous and does not relieve the pain the same way."

Hydromorphone for Pain "Love it. I had 2 mg for pancreatitis in the hospital. I hear the pills are good for severe pain, I have never had the pill, though. It can make you sick to your stomach, though."

Hydromorphone for Chronic Pain "I had surgery that was outpatient but was put under general anesthesia, which to me means it is serious. Vicodin does not work for me. I am allergic to Percocet. I specifically asked for Demerol. My doctor gave me Dilaudid. The worst! Nausea, lightheaded, no pain relief or positive effects, but he claimed it was stronger, therefore should be better. I'm not a doctor, but I know what works on my body. He could have just given me a smaller dosage of Demerol. Instead of 30 that don't work, I would have taken 12 that do."
