For Birth Control "Just my personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt: This is the second generic of Aviane I had been switched to. Aviane worked great for me for years before I got an IUD (which was not as great for me), so I tried getting back on that after the IUD removal. I don't recall much about the first generic, but the pharmacy switched it to Vienva within a few months of being back on the pill, and I was on it for 1.5 years. In that time, I got a yeast infection like clockwork on the second week of my pill pack every single month. Then that would shift into the worst depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, and paranoia I have ever felt in the third week of pills. The only time I felt I was somewhat 'normal' was during the sugar pills and maybe the first three pills of the pack, then the symptoms would come right back. My doctor switched the pill to something with higher estrogen, and while that pill also has its issues, the yeast infections are completely gone and the dark thoughts before my period aren't quite as bad."

For Birth Control "This is the worst birth control ever. I’m only a week and a half into this and have never felt this depressed and was wondering what was wrong with me. This pill, it makes me want to not take any type of BC ever again. I’ve been feeling so off these past few days and don’t even feel like myself."

For Birth Control "Vienva negatively affected my health both physically and mentally. Within two weeks of taking Vienva, I began bleeding constantly, like a mild period that got extremely heavy during the time of my expected period. I also experienced extreme fatigue, migraines, and mood swings. A couple of weeks into taking Vienva, I became depressed, which continued to worsen until I felt suicidal by three months. At this point, my husband intervened and strongly suggested I consider switching to a different birth control method. I have been off of Vienva for two months now, and all of my symptoms have completely subsided-including the depression."

For Birth Control "Ever since I started taking this birth control, I noticed a complete shift in myself. I have been soooooo depressed, and my mood swings are so out of control. Before I started this birth control, I was a very happy and outgoing person, and now I'm so depressed and emotional about everything. My appetite is either extremely hungry or not hungry at all. There will be days when I just keep getting hungry, and other days when I'm hungry maybe once a day, and that's all. I'm always nauseous when I do eat, and my cramps feel just the same as before. Beware and do your research before taking this!!"

For Birth Control "I started Vienva several months ago as my first form of birth control. In the past month or so, I have experienced extreme anxiety at random times of the day. It feels like I do not have control of my own thoughts, and I spiral into thoughts of sadness. I'm not sure if this is 100% because of this medication, but nothing else in my life has changed, so it seems to be caused by this. It also hasn't helped make my period lighter at all. The only good thing this medication has done is lessen my cramps. I'm not saying Vienva will be bad for anyone, but I've felt crazy and depressed lately, and I'm finally starting to realize it might be because of Vienva. If anyone else is in this boat, you're not alone."

For Birth Control "I haven’t used BC pills in years. The last form I used was a non-hormonal IUD, but it made my cramps terrible and my bleeding was very heavy. I work in the fitness industry and work out 4-6 days weekly. I’ve been on acne meds for years. After 3 months on Vienva, I noticed a huge decrease in my acne. BUT I also noticed a huge decrease in my sex drive and energy levels. My anxiety isn’t higher, but my depression level is. I’ve gained 10 pounds, regardless of my physically active job, rigorous workouts, and attention to nutrition. Those “PMS cravings” that we experience are far more often for me now than before. I was concerned because I’ve had a lot of spotting in between periods or breakthrough bleeding for days at a time, and I did see other reviews with similar reactions. I will say, we have not used another form of protection, and I’m not pregnant, so there’s that. I plan to switch to Mirena this month because the negative effects are not worth the few positives."

For Birth Control "Took Vienva to regulate my period and prevent pregnancy. First couple of weeks were fine. After that, I started to have very bad mood swings and was always tired. Though I think it made my skin look better? And then, my second month, I started to experience depression. Oh my goodness, I can't believe it. You know how they say depression is not the same as when you're 'sad'? That is very true because I felt that. It was so bad, and it also didn't help regulate my period. Don't even try it."

For Birth Control "Not exaggerating—this pill gave me acne, makes me feel depressed and moody more than half of each day (no history of depression), took away almost all interest in sex (unusual for me), and doesn’t even keep my periods regular. Please do not take this brand."

For Birth Control "First two months were complete breakthrough bleeding for almost 2 months straight, and the third month I have no breakthrough bleeding, BUT my mood swings are horrible. I have never been a depressed person and have no underlying mental health issues, and this medicine is making me someone I am not. I will no longer take Vienva because I am highly irritable, lost interest in things, isolating... just not good....."

For Birth Control "I was on Orysthia, but they told me they switched it to Vienva as well. This birth control has made me into such a moody woman, my mood changes can go from 1 to 100 real quick, which is not me, and I hate it. It is not just that, it makes me feel really down as well. Super depressed. I think I'm going to switch because, after reading these reviews, I'm not the only one that feels this way. I don’t recommend this birth control."

For Birth Control "Prior to taking this contraceptive, I suffered with OCD anxiety—but definitely not to the extent that this pill brought out of me. After two months of taking it, I could spend hours shaking uncontrollably, crying, experiencing intense intrusive thoughts, went into a depression, and for those of you who know what that's like—your head is working AGAINST you in every way possible. I highly recommend trying a different pill because I wouldn't wish my experience with this on absolutely anyone. Easily the worst feelings and effects I've had in my life, and I know it was the birth control that did this to me because after a few months of stopping it I noticed that my normal anxiety was back and that I wasn't having constant panic attacks. Around my period time now, it's almost like I experience it all over again because that's how much it messed with me. Please be careful!"

For Birth Control "I got switched from Aviane to Vienva. My pharmacist said it was the same thing, so I took it. I’m switching pharmacies to go back on Aviane after taking Vienva for just one month. I already have bad anxiety, and this pill just made me even more anxious than ever. I cry for literally the smallest things, can’t control my emotions, and have been so, so grumpy and lashing out towards everyone. This is not me at all, I feel very depressed, moody, and angry all the time. I will be taking Aviane again because Aviane truly made me feel normal. I do NOT recommend Vienva at all. It’s not worth it. Ladies, do not take this pill if you want to stay sane. I would rate 0 if I could."

For Birth Control "My pharmacy switched me from Aviane to Vienva. I’ve been taking Aviane for a year with no problems. About a week and a half into the new script for Vienva, I noticed terrible side effects. I was extremely nauseous, my whole face was breaking out, and I became an emotional wreck. I’m not someone who usually has mental health issues, but this pill made me extremely depressed and anxious. I was able to go to a different pharmacy and get another pack of Aviane. It took a little over a week to feel normal again. Once that pack ran out, my new pharmacy gave me Vienva again. After not being able to find the Aviane, I had to take the Vienva as I had no choice. After a few days, all of those same symptoms came back again (so it’s definitely the pill). I would not recommend this pill to my worst enemy. The most annoying part is that every pharmacy thinks “they have the same active ingredients so they’re the same exact pill.”"

For Birth Control "I was prescribed Vienva by The Pill Club and was nervous after reading the reviews. They weren’t all bad, so I decided to take a chance. I’ve been taking this for a while now and haven’t noticed the usual birth control side effects. At first, I liked it, but as time went on, I saw this pill really take my mental health into a downward spiral. It got to a point where I just needed to take a break from the pill, so I went off of it for about three months… BEST three MONTHS EVER! I actually felt like myself again. I recently went back on it. I’m in such a low state again. Even my family can tell the difference, and they didn’t even know I was on the pill. I had a bad breakdown tonight, which prompted me to re-look at the reviews, and when I didn’t see many about mental health, I thought I should share. As of now, I am choosing to no longer take Vienva and will possibly be looking for a hormone-free option or something. Best of luck to you with whatever you decide."

For Birth Control "Worst experience of my life. I’ve been on birth control since I was 15, with the exception of my 2 planned pregnancies. I’m 36 now. I’ve never had issues with BC before. I’ve been on Vienva for 1 year. It never occurred to me that the nightmare I’ve been living through was BC related. I’ve gained 25 pounds this year-despite my massive efforts to lose it. I saw a doctor twice and an endocrinologist-thinking it was my thyroid. My hair fell out. I used to have beautiful, long, thick, healthy hair-now it’s thin and broken. My skin is dry, I’ve had less than zero sex drive for months, and for the first time in my life, I’ve been battling overwhelming depression and anxiety. I’ve seen doctor after doctor-and not once did someone mention it could be this birth control. After searching for reviews, I read all these women going through the same thing.... I immediately stopped taking them and am already seeing a huge turnaround in every area."

For Birth Control "Walgreens switched me to Vienva out of the blue. After two months of taking this pill, I felt WAY OFF. I’ve never really suffered from acne, but after this pill, my whole chin/jaw area was filled with acne. I also lost my sex drive and experienced dryness. To top it off, I’ve lost all my motivation to do anything. I just moved to Hawaii, and this pill makes me so low and down I just want to stay inside all day. I’ve been on birth control for 6 plus years, and this is by far the worst pill I’ve taken. I gave it a 1 because I didn’t gain weight or get pregnant."

For Birth Control "I was on Orsythia for two years and then was randomly switched over to Vienva. I felt side effects immediately - mostly psychological - from the outset, but didn't want to jump to conclusions. A year later and I've switched back to the previous. Vienva gave me recurrent panic attacks and left me in a state of depression otherwise. I experienced severe mood swings and could never ascertain what was wrong. I also developed shortness of breath, numbness in my arms and legs, and more water retention than normal. I even lactated once. I sort of suspected it was the pill, and when I ran behind on my prescription renewal, I realized this was the problem."

For Birth Control "I was switched unexpectedly from Orsythia to Vienva by my pharmacy and have been taking Vienva for only about a week and a half. Suddenly, I am having terrible mood swings, depression, and overwhelming tiredness no matter how much I sleep. I have never been depressed in my life and usually have a very positive outlook on my life. Now everything makes me upset. I spent a night uncontrollably crying because I couldn't control my emotions. I act like a different person, and my significant other has noticed and doesn't know how to handle it. I can't believe how negatively it has affected me in less than two weeks. DO NOT TAKE VIENVA."

For Birth Control "I've been taking Vienva for about five months now. It started out with bad migraines on and off for the first month or so. I overlooked that part because of how well it cleared up my skin and did the job of keeping me safe from pregnancy. But after taking it for this long, I have noticed that I have slipped into depression without even noticing. I have had past experiences with depression and anxiety, but I have never NOT caught myself slipping into that state. I have breakthrough bleeding so much, my period is never on a consistent cycle, and it even lasted a whole month in October. I don't take the placebo pills because that is what they instructed me to do if I wanted to skip my period, but clearly that is not working. Even when my period is over, I experience spotting and light bleeding when I least expect it, and sometimes it lasts for days. I don’t feel like myself anymore, almost like I am not fully present. I definitely am looking into trying out a new birth control."

For Birth Control "If I could give this birth control a 0, I would! It is completely terrible. Besides the fact that I am always bloated and always have stomach pains, it gives me horrible headaches. I never had depression or anxiety, and I’ve been taking this birth control for 7 months, and I totally do not recommend! I’ve been so down and so depressed and don’t have motivation to do anything. I cry all the time, and I always take it out on my boyfriend, poor him. I’m glad that I’m reading the reviews and know it’s not only just me! I’m getting off of it today!"

For Birth Control "So I’ve been taking Vienva for 8 months, and I’ve started to get these white, hard, under-the-skin pimple things. I also get my period 2 days before my placebo pills. If I were you, I wouldn’t take this pill. I will be getting off of this birth control ASAP! Causes depression and makes it impossible for me to lose weight. AVOID taking this!"

For Birth Control "I have been on so many different birth controls in an attempt to calm my endometriosis symptoms, and this is hands down the worst one I have EVER been on. I have always gotten dizzy or nauseous from the medication, but I have never had it change my mood like this one did. I've been on it for 2 months, and everyone in my life has noticed how different I have become. I am so lost in my own mind, it feels like I am watching myself go through my day. I have been insanely irritable and depressed. My poor boyfriend has been dealing with these intense mood swings like a trooper. I have lashed out randomly so many times, and I have also cried on average 6-7 times per day. I have never felt this intense depression, and from someone who was already depressed when going on this pill, it was a train wreck. Overall, this pill has been a complete nightmare, and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy, I have a lot after lashing out so many times."

For Birth Control "I was switched from Aviane to Vienva after Walgreens took over for Rite Aid, and it has been the worst. About a week after starting the first pill, I started spotting, and then when the placebo week began, I had the worst cramps and heaviest bleeding since I began birth control 12 years ago. I suffer from depression and anxiety, and the last month, it had been intensified beyond belief. I legitimately feel as if I am losing my mind. My pharmacy is ordering my previous medication. Always advocate for yourself!"

For Birth Control "I took it for about 2 1/2 months. I became depressed and anxious. I was anxious before, and Vienva made it worse. My body ached from it, too. The pain increasingly got worse until I finally stopped taking it. My chest also hurt. It seemed to have a negative effect on my breathing and circulation. I got a heavy period the day after I stopped taking it. It was very heavy, and both my back and stomach ached. While taking it, I hardly had any cramps or PMS symptoms before periods. That was one plus side. Overall, I would not recommend it. It is a poor-quality birth control. If your body can take it, then great, but if you want to feel good and normal, do not take it."
