For Birth Control "I have had terrible experiences with different pills in the past (25 lb weight gain in a month, loss of sex drive completely - it hurt to have sex because I couldn't get wet, mood swings), so I decided to not take the pill anymore and rely on withdrawal. Needless to say, that was stupid, and a huge pregnancy scare later, my boyfriend and I decided it'd be best for me to take something. I was very careful as to which one I would start taking because if I had to deal with those side effects again, I would be miserable. After one month, I am quite happy with Lutera. I have had no side effects that have lasted more than a day. My weight is stabilized, and I feel great. It can't hurt to try, as everybody will react differently to the pill."

For Birth Control "I've started on Lutera due to the fact that my last birth control pill caused mood swings and low libido. Otherwise, it was a great pill. So far with Lutera, my mood swings are gone, but I have spotting after hitting the 2nd week mark. Never had this before, so it's incredibly annoying. Giving it time to work itself out and hopefully things improve!"

For Birth Control "This is a horrible birth control. I've tried several, and this is by far the worst. I've been taking it for about 8 months, have gained several pounds, have terrible mood swings, most days I feel sick, and have lost a lot of my hair. I thought most side effects would go away after a few months, but that is not the case. Taking this pill is one of the worst things you can do to your body."

For Birth Control "Do not take it! I was recently misdiagnosed with PMDD because I was having severe mood swings, headaches, anxiety, depression, etc. Because of those effects, my OB put me on SSRIs on top of this birth control, diagnosing me with PMDD. Only to find out months later that those and Lutera were literally making me crazy. I was taken to the ER when I had a severe panic attack the other day and followed up with my primary doctor. She took me off the antidepressants and also took me off Lutera, explaining Lutera was the cause of it all. That I more than likely do not have PMDD and that I should have been given a different birth control by my OB long ago instead of misdiagnosis."

For Birth Control "Definitely recommend Lutera, (21, 130 lbs, & no kids). This birth control was the first one I’ve ever been on, so I have nothing to compare it to, BUT for me it’s been great. The first month or two, I had pretty drastic mood swings & headaches, but they subsided. I definitely say hang in there because in the long run it works great, prevents pregnancy, way lighter periods, no acne & little to no weight gain!"

For Birth Control "I was on Lutera for 3 years, and it was awesome! My cramps were mild, my periods were only a few days long and lighter. I wasn't emotional and out of control. I felt normal. I didn't gain weight. This is a great pill to try!"

For Birth Control "I have been taking this pill for 5 months, and I have noticed HUGE mood swings, feel depressed, but I have lost weight. I have just started unprotected sex, and it scares me, but my doctor told me it is what birth control is for, so you are fine! I feel nauseous constantly, though. I just got put on a higher dose as well, but other than that, I like this birth control!"

For Birth Control "I've been on Lutera for over 2 years now. When I first started taking it, I had some mood swings, but now I'm okay. I'm changing my birth control because I feel like it affected my sex life. I hardly get in the mood. My doctor is switching it to Yaz. Hopefully, that would work better. If it wasn't for the effect of Lutera on my sex life, I wouldn't have changed it at all."

For Birth Control "I've been taking this pill for about 3 months now. My mood swings are crazy. I cry over the smallest things, get irritated fast, felt weight gain, and my sex drive is crazy to the point I want it all the time. In the beginning, I've experienced headaches, not too bad though. Before the pill, I had Depo-Provera, that made me crazy! Also, I lost weight on the Depo. On this pill, I've experienced very much laziness! I'm thinking of switching my birth control, but don't know what to get."

For Birth Control "I have been taking Lutera for about 3 months now. It has been much better than any previous birth control pills I have taken. Some side effects that I have noticed are enlarged and tender breasts and a decrease in sex drive. I have also noticed that I am a lot more emotional than usual. I have not really gained any weight, which is one of the main reasons my doctor put me on this pill. The pills I have taken in the past made me gain massive amounts of weight, and then I would get super depressed, but not on Lutera. I have set an alarm on my phone to help me remember to take it every day at the same time, and it's no problem. Overall, I am pretty satisfied with Lutera."

For Birth Control "This was the first pill I've ever taken. I had depression before starting and was scared to take a hormonal birth control, but I have to say it actually made my depression a lot better. But of course, I'm not a doctor, that's just what happened with me. I had 6-7 day periods with bad cramps before, and they became 3 day periods with absolutely no cramps. I did experience some breast tenderness my first week, which wasn't too bad. Cons: I would wake up starving every morning. I also started to get crazy mood swings and would snap at everything/everyone. I took Lutera for 3 and a half months, and I've stopped because of the mood swings. But other than that, I'd say it was a really good pill."

For Birth Control "I started taking Lutera about 4 months ago. I haven't had too many side effects, but the ones that I have had affect sex, which is the reason for taking the pill. I think my acne has cleared up, no real weight gain, some mood swings, but not very many or severe. The biggest issue has been my period not being regular. I've started it over two weeks early, and it has lasted the entire time. Lately, I've been having more brown spotting about a week before my period, it's lasted the entire week, and then my regular period starts. Other than issues with spotting and my period starting early each month, the pill has been fine. Hopefully, the spotting will stop soon, or I'll need to switch to an entirely new pill."

For Birth Control "I'm 18, and this is my first time being on birth control, so when I read all the horrible reviews on Lutera, I was really worried. But it's been about a week now, and I can definitely say that I love it so far! Haven't had any side effects besides really bad nausea on the second day of the pill. But everything was fine after that. Haven't experienced any mood swings, decrease in sex drive. I've noticed that my appetite did increase just a little, and my breasts have been more tender than usual."

For Birth Control "This pill was perfection the 1st year I was on it. Then, over the past few months, my PMDD got bad, I started breaking out, spotting between periods, migraines started kicking in, and crazy mood swings. Overall, nice pill that prevents pregnancy. The 1st year I was on this was great, with no side effects and a period that was light and lasted one day out of the month was awesome. I wish the bad side effects never started because I loved this pill."

For Birth Control "Lutera has been pretty effective throughout my couple of months using it. I experienced nausea quite often during the first couple of packs. My breasts were tender and swollen in the beginning, but that doesn't happen anymore. I gained about 7 pounds. Sex drive is actually up the wall. I'm naturally a moody and emotional/sensitive little flower, and I believe since this is a hormonal pill, it adds on to the emotions. I'm frightened by the potential pop-up of depression issues or psychological issues I've been reading about birth control pills. I just don't want it to be too late before I possibly go crazy like some people have mentioned happened to them. Overall, the pill is cool. I used to have severe cramps and heavy bleeding, but Lutera helped."

For Birth Control "It's only been a month, and it's been horrible for me. I've tried another birth control that was also very low dosage and never had any problems or side effects. With Lutera, it's been so different. I started spotting in the second week of starting the pill, and it lasted till it was time to get my period. I've had mood swings and really bad depression and emotions. It's not normal for me because I haven't felt like this before. I also get really hungry at 2, 3, 4 a.m. Those are my major issues with this pill. I'm going to give it one more month, and if things don't change, I'm going back to the birth control I was taking."

For Birth Control "I'm about 50/50 on this BC. I started it about 4 months ago, of course from a recommendation by my doctor. Unlike most people, I haven't had breakouts (in fact, my skin's been quite clear) and I haven't gained weight. It's helped with all the mood swings I had prior to taking the pill, and it hasn't altered my sex drive. The only problem I have with it is that my periods are about two to three times longer than they were. I used to have 5-day-long periods; they were heavy and irregular with patterns. Sometimes I'd have them every two months, sometimes every two weeks. Now they're once every month, but last 10 to 15 days... it's very, very light, but it's still annoying. But then again, it's different for everyone."

For Birth Control "I've been on Lutera 28 for a year now. I've noticed how if I'm late taking my pill each day, even by two hours, I'll spot or even start my period early. MAJOR mood swings and depression. Some days I think I'm losing my mind. It's effective in preventing pregnancy, however, I've completely LOST my libido. If you're considering taking this pill, I would look into other BC options besides this one."

For Birth Control "I haven't been taking the pill for years, so I am no expert, but so far I have experienced a more controllable period, tender and growing breasts, even skin tone, and weird mood swings in the beginning. My period used to be extremely heavy and lasted exactly 7 days long each month, but after starting, it was unbelievably light (I was so surprised) and 5 days long. It starts 2 days after starting the pink pills in the package. My breasts have definitely grown and are a tad tender but don't bother me at all, along with my other womanly aspects being emphasized. My skin is manageable, it was before I started the pill also. My mood swings are a little uncontrollable though."

For Birth Control "I went off birth control for 1 year, and when I went to get on it again, I was prescribed Alesse. Lutera, the generic, was given to me by the pharmacy. I have never had such adverse reactions to taking a pill in my life, and I've been on birth control pills for 12 years. I only managed to be on it for a week. My period NEVER stopped. It wasn't spotting. Full-blown uterine cramping and bleeding. It gave me a yeast infection after 5 days of being on it. I had mood swings like crazy. Usually, I'll stick it out until my body adjusts (a month or 2), but I had to quit taking this. Between the excessive bleeding, infection, anxiety, and depression, I just couldn't do it. I was hoping the lower doses of hormones would be better, but it's just not a good fit for me. I've only stopped taking it for 24 hours, and already, my bleeding has almost completely disappeared, and I haven't had anxiety or depression in the last 12 hours. I feel better in general. I'm looking for a better option."

For Birth Control "This was the first hormonal birth control method I tried. I was nervous, as I had read about all the horrible side effects of birth control pills. Well, I did experience some of them on this pill (mostly mood swings, nausea), but only for a few days. After that, it was a nearly perfect experience. The biggest benefit was that it regulated my period and made my cramps go away!! Amazing. Unfortunately, I've started to get migraines with aura and therefore had to come off Lutera. Now I'm on the mini-pill and considering the implant. Ugh."

For Birth Control "I have been on Lutera for almost two weeks now. I have had almost constant diarrhea, a couple of mood swings, my period lasted nine days (rather than my usual four), nausea, hot flashes at night (age 21). I have had a hard time staying asleep, and not too much of a sex drive left. At first, I would wake up and not be hungry until lunchtime, now I want to eat constantly (but I control my urges, or I munch on veggies). On the plus side, I haven't gained any weight and my skin has cleared up a little. Though I am having not-so-pleasant side effects, I don't have any complaints about the pill (it has only been two weeks though). Reading other reviews, a lot of people say the negative goes away within three months. So, I'll cross my fingers."

For Birth Control "It was my first time on birth control. I’m starting my second packet of Lutera. No weight gain. A little acne and spotting. However, this birth control affects my emotions a lot. I feel very depressed for no reason sometimes. I think that’s the hardest side effect that happened to me. I’m satisfied with the pill, but the mood changes have been hard to control."
