Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "I took the 25-unit pill for two days and had a very bad reaction to it. Incredible thirst, near-constant urination, upset stomach, and diarrhea, lightheadedness. It did bring down my blood sugar for a few hours, but didn't last long. Can't recommend."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "I have type 2 diabetes. I am 68 years old and female. I took Jardiance and began to urinate very frequently, like about every hour and a half or so. Urine had blood in it and was painful, burning. I had extreme pain and burning inside me, I guess that was my bladder. I was extremely thirsty. I couldn't go anywhere or do anything. I just had to stay home. I had nightmares at night when I tried to sleep. (OMG!) I woke up many times to go to the bathroom at night. I had a constant, unexplained headache that would not go away. I already have a heart problem, but Jardiance was nevertheless prescribed for me anyway. I had to stop taking Jardiance. Then, all of the aforementioned side effects stopped, thank goodness. Oh, by the way, I lost four pounds. That's the only good thing that came from this medicine. Other than that, Jardiance was a nightmare. I am glad, though, that it is beneficial to some people."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "Been on Jardiance for 7 weeks, cannot satisfy my thirst, always craving a drink. Then pee pee ongoing. Having to get up 3 times in the night for the toilet. Some days feeling lethargic and lightheaded. Plus point is being overweight I have lost 1 stone mainly around my waist in 6 weeks, so a quick fix weight loss for me. I will run with this with my side effects as long as the numbers reduce in levels and weight. The pee pee and waking me up is annoying."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "Dr. prescribed Jardiance to help get sugar buildup out with urine. It has been horrible with constant yeast infections. I have never in my life had one. Burning with or without urination. Terrible thirst, sugar has been running 96-128. I am on Metformin. In the last 7 months, I had lost 17 lb before starting Jardiance. The medication is very scary, your whole body aches. No energy, and the yeast infections. Always on your mind. I am done with this medicine! Please beware!"

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "I've been feeling good while on Jardiance (Diab type 2). I take 12.5 mg each night. Same as a lot of folks here, I pee much more and am thirsty more often. Dropped the weight pretty much straight away with very little effort. I was taking Diabex before this. I've got to have a glucose test in the next week, so we'll see how it all goes. My son's a nursing student, and this is what he said about it: 'My understanding of it is that the glomerulus, which is the filtration site in the nephron (which is the functional unit of the kidney), is only designed to filter smaller particles. Glucose, however, is really big and shouldn't be filtered into the nephron. That's what I was led to believe. Not sure if that's true or not.' I'll hit my doctor up with this."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I switched to empagliflozin from pioglitazone (swelling in left foot) after two years. Currently, four months on empagliflozin, one UTI, have lost 18 pounds, A1C about the same 7.1, but constant thirst and need to urinate. Seeing pharmacist tomorrow about the possibility of Onglyza, but may stay with empagliflozin due to the side effect of Onglyza being the possibility of pancreatitis."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I just started. I'm on day two, and I know I'm just starting, but the previous comments about urinating all day are absolutely right. I just started yesterday, and I have to go all the time, and I'm very thirsty afterwards. I just pray I can lose 20 pounds by December. I will keep you all posted. I take a one-week injection. Also, good luck to you all."

For Type 2 Diabetes "Took empagliflozin for a year. From the start, had a raging, inquenchable thirst. Also had a constant need to urinate, would be very urgent, occasionally wouldn’t make it in time. Was very wearing, seemed to be in the toilet all the time. Also had to get up at least once or twice during the night, which disturbed my sleep. After a year, couldn’t cope anymore and came off the drug. Thirst went immediately. However, it’s now 6 months since I stopped taking empagliflozin and feel it’s left me with permanent side effects. Still need to urinate more than I did before, used to be able to go out for 5 hours without needing a trip to the toilet, but now can only go about 3 hours. Luckily, don’t often have to get up in the night anymore, but don’t ever get a lie-in as by 8 hours I wake with a full bladder. Feel as if the empagliflozin has left me with a permanently weakened bladder, which has affected my quality of life. Would not recommend empagliflozin to anyone based on my experiences."

For Type 2 Diabetes "I managed my diabetes really well and was on insulin throughout my pregnancy. I was praised by the doctors during this time for my control, but now everything is going crazy. Fourteen months on, and my blood results keep going up, so my diabetes nurse suggested this. I was made aware of several side effects. The thrush is an absolute killer. I have had it constantly for the last three months. I have literally called to request a phone appointment today, as it is really getting me down now. I have lost weight and seen a reduction in my levels, but I'm really not happy right now. I feel tired all the time, I get lightheaded and very thirsty sometimes. I am only 36 with a 14-month-old, and I can't carry on like this. I need to be able to look after her. I also work nights, so I don't know if that is contributing to anything. I'm guessing it's time to try something else..."

Empagliflozin for Type 2 Diabetes "Have been on Jardiance for one month now, have noticed I got a severe cold. I was down for 3 weeks, now I have severe bone pain in my back, my hips, and my shoulders. I'm using a cane. I see no difference in my morning numbers. In addition, I was up all night at least four times per night to wee. I also drank two bottles of water per night because of the increased thirst. My mouth was so dry, it feels like I could never get enough to drink. I do eat a very low-carb diet, I do admit I cheat once in a great while, not often. It's usually a taste. I didn't see a reduction in weight, I'm adding it up to how much water I've been drinking. I've called my doctor asking them to discontinue this medication for me, but I didn't get an answer back, so I decided I'm stopping it on my own right now. Also, I take insulin Lantus, which I stopped first as a test on myself. Three weeks off insulin makes me think the offender is Jardiance."
